This started today, every time I open a Pogo page a file is downloaded named “set” On a Mac it’s a Quicktime file. How do I stop this and what is it?

MomsBassetHound replied 9 years ago

I didn’t download it. I added the site to my restricted sites, so all I get is a message that my security settings will not allow this download.

I do NOT download anything on my computer when I don’t know what it is.

The message I got before I added it to my restricted sites was the one that asks if you want to open or save the download, or cancel it. All mine said was that it was from r.openx.net and since I had no idea what it was I wasn’t doing it.

One more thing. If you want to add it to your restricted sites you need to add
http:// r.openx. net…..with no spaces, but didn’t want a hot link here.

But it’s a real PITA getting the message on each and every page.

What I get is a download, what I mean is, it just downloads, there is no option to accept it or not. So I went into accounts and restricted on of them, just that site you posted. Now It does not allow access to Pogo at all. So I think this is from Pogo. Any thoughts?

It’s from Pogo, no doubt about it. There are actually a few threads in the Pogo forums about it. I hadn’t found them until Lura pointed me in the right direction.

It has not affected my access to Pogo at all. Just 1 question. When you go to add a site to your restricted sites it automatically adds the site you are on. Did you accidentally block Pogo also? I had to back that out of the entry field.

SynthsnakE replied 9 years ago

No, I just used parental controls in System Prefs. I had no browser open.

SynthsnakE replied 9 years ago

Do you have a link to the thread in Pogo forums?

Here’s one of them……..

Thanks Moms for all of your help! It seems that Pogo has removed this now :)

HOCK9952 replied 9 years ago

It’s adware that has been around for at least a few years but now seems to be making a resurgence on the Pogo site. Try to remove it from your system by using some extremely helpful free utilities like AdwCleaner, Junkware Removal Tool, Spybot Search & Destroy or Malwarebytes .

Here’s another link to the Pogo forums in addition to the link that Moms has already posted for you:

Thank you Moms! Good luck SynthsnakE!

It was not malware. The first thing I did was run a virus scan and malwarebytes, and both came up clean.

There was nothing new in my add/remove programs.

It was something embedded in Pogo’s pages.

And Lura had it on her iPhone when she went to Pogo.com this morning.
