Whenever I try to play Operation Mania, the game attempts to connect to the Pogo server to download “Assets”. Every time this transpires, I get an error message along the lines of “Could Not Connect To Server. Asset Download Failed”.

The game still works, but I’m curious to what exactly this connectivity is supposed to perform.

I would guess Assets are Pogo’s handshake to confirm your ownership of the game. The term “Assets” in programming is used for a ton of different ideas, but usually refers to some key information that is transmitted, typically from a database.

Could be OM is in the same boat as DD – Pogo has stopped server space for them both? DD no longer records and stores rank progress, that would be an asset. Maybe? Not entirely sure, but will be following your question to see more answers.

Okay, that’s good to know, Gecko. I had a feeling that the game was not getting much attention from Pogo whatsoever. It was released approximately a little over a year ago and there are hardly any players whatsoever. This makes me think that I best go through the game and collect all the badges that I can since, like Diner Dash, they will probably discontinue rank progress.

Initially, I thought “Assets” were add-ons or some other item that gets acquired. Currently, I know I can still rank up, earn badges, and win mini items. Operation Mania is like an advanced version of Makeover Madness (and much less girly), so hopefully this game will maintain some time.

Frank, I would recommend you do that (re: playing the game for badges/rewards asap). I wrote CS this weekend about my unearned badges and rewards from DD (I wanted that cupcake!); I’m getting that ‘assets’ warning too. First, CS told me that they do not offer that game as a d/l anymore. (I never said that I wanted/needed to d/l it.) Then, I was given a link to BadgeHungry for my answer regarding the d/l’ing part! *sighs* Now, that’s great for Lura and BH; Pogo CS using her site as an answer/problem solver…I just can’t believe that, though.

Sooo – I wrote CS back again, stating that I did not ask for any info regarding the d/l of DD, but I’m wondering how I can get my badges/rewards (that I paid for) and that Pogo was offering at one time. At least give us them if we can never achieve them on our own or maybe even a partial refund? (Maybe I missed the memo on Pogo stopping the rank progress?)

But anyways, this was Pogo’s CS answer: ‘Play another game!’

Un-be-lievable!!!

Sorry to be off topic, but PurplePlum ended her thread early – I’m in a never ending go around with CS about DD. I got the rank 40 and 50 badges by complaining, but I really bought the game for the items. I’m missing ranks 35 and 45. Cupcake is 45. Every week CS gets a new open ticket from me because 1 of the 5 people I talked to said they could award them, but didn’t know how.

Interesting discussion…. I started to notice that error as well …. the “assets” error. I have been playing Word Whomp Underground a lot and feel like I am not ranking up at the proper speed. I have won 1,399 games which is almost enough for rank 37… but I am was at 32 FOREVER and just a few minutes ago got to rank 33. Something isn’t in synch. Since live customer service isn’t working (at least for me when I click on the live chat icon it does nothin), I sent CS an email and we’ll see what they say.

So, are we in general agreement that DD no longer is ranking up to badges? What a rip off if true, I bought it to earn badges and only have the first one.

OH MY GOODNESS…. DD badges aren’t even listed anymore. Does this mean they are gone forever?

Frank replied 12 years ago

I know I won a single badge in DD (the Rank 0 — just for playing).

Check your badge album for the badge. I still see the one badge I earned:

Copper
Diner Dash® Family Style™
Dec 14, 2008

I believe they took it out of the main inventory, just so they don’t get flooded with comments from people wondering where they can get that game. However, the badges should show up in your own album.

If I recall correctly, the DD badges moved to our Special Edition albums. I don’t know if you can still earn them though.

I have a few experiences to share here. The game where I was getting the “Assets” error constantly was Way To Go Bowling, however the game always played correctly and I ranked it out AFTER starting to receive those messages. So, I don’t think the Assets message affects ranking for this game, anyway.

After reading the info in this thread, I became concerned that DD would not rank up, but I have have won 2 badges in it in the past month or 6 weeks. That said, I can’t comment on the higher ranks as I have not gotten beyond rank 20 for now.

I did eventually get the rank 35 badge in Word Whomp Underground, but still believe either it’s very out of synch, or that the published info on how many words you need for each rank is somehow incorrect. I always do the words only to the point where the Gopher gets the carrot (or whichever object is the first one, the one that qualifies you for a JP Spin). If you get a JP spin (which I always do), you’re suppoed to get rank credit but something still seems to be off as I should be about rank 41 or 42 now, not 35.

I have been playing Operation Mania some this weekend and it appears to be ranking up. I had not played it for awhile and forgot frankly how slow it ranks and how boring it can get, but I am definitely getting credit for cured patients.
