I don’t know about settings, but there have been lots of tips posted over the years. Do a search for “Shoot the Moon” here or on the main site.
Also, I know there will be a ton of folks stepping up to help other players come Wednesday. You’ll want to check out the comments on the weekly challenges thread (posted at 7am EST on Wednesday) for players offering help and for highlighted tips.
If I remember correctly the settings will not make it easier to “Shoot the Moon”.
It will ultimately depend on the cards dealt.
An ideal hand would include the Queen of Spades and a few hearts – Ace, Queen, 10 hearts, so you can trump the King, Jack and lower hearts to be to take them all.
But I have read some helpful answers in the Q&A search section.
I have played Hearts on Pogo for years, so I thought I would post my table settings which I have used in the past to “Shoot the Moon”…
Customize your hearts game…
Check – Hearts cannot be led until hearts are broken.
Check – Queen of Spades breaks hearts.
(The above 2 options will make it a little easier to control when the hearts can be played – ideally you would need to have the Queen of Spades. You can use it to your advantage.)
Uncheck – Hearts or the Queen of Spades can be played on the first trick.
Check – Display points taken by each player.
Uncheck – Taking Jack of Diamonds is worth -10 points.
Set “25” for game over score.
Customize you table…
I normally play a private table with a friend, so these options will be users preference. The only one to note is…
Uncheck – End round early if scoring outcome has been determined (TRAM).
Under advanced options…
Scroll and check – “Players with the 2 of clubs” leads the first trick in a hand.
Check – Taking zero tricks in a hand is worth -5 points.
Uncheck – Can shoot the sun (take all tricks in a hand for -52 points).
Scroll and check – “Do nothing” for the next 2 options. (These are handy if you want to prolong the game for a specific reason).
And finally type of passing should only be checked on across – so you and your partner can work together to try to shoot the moon.
I pretty much agree with Storm’s options, except I choose right and left passing only and sit side by side(both accounts seeking badge). This gives more passes between the no pass round. I also would note that I more often can shoot the moon with NO hearts in the winning hand but big cards in the other suits and maybe one long suit.
faded – your right, you can try it that way with no hearts.
But for the sake of this weeks challenge, it’ll be easier to focus on having the hearts in your hand, rather than trying to win them with higher ranked cards.
The above is based on 2 players against 2 bots, that’s how I have always played it. I don’t like to over complicate badges with double browsing, just relax, enjoy and play :)
I was given some great tips and just the opposite of some posted. I only checked Hearts or queen of spades can be played on first trick
checked display points.
use 25 or above
tram
and in advanced
checked player to the left
do nothing
do nothing
scatter
open room with 4 warm blooded players, see which one has best to win, ie number and value of hearts and high spades. This goes very quickly, takes a few minutes to set up but it is worth it.

Oops… the above should read “…lower hearts to be able to take them all…”

Storm was kind enough to offer up some settings, tips, and guidelines for trying to shoot the moon in Hearts. Here’s a link to the strategy guide:
