A friend just alerted me about a situation regarding two rooms that were removed from Lottso. Coincidentally, both of these rooms are “Rainbow” rooms, which are designated for the GLBT community.
Question: Does Pogo remove social rooms during weekly badge challenges for featured games? I find this quite alarming if this is the case, since it would appear that Pogo is appeasing the broader audience by hiding/disabling theme-oriented rooms.
I do know that selecting a random room will not place a person into a “Rainbow” room — or a “Spiritual”, “Uncensored Chat”, or “Quietly Playing” room. So, in effect, there should not be any social/moral conflicts with this type of selective randomness. I have never seen room removal transpire before and I find it a bit discomforting that Pogo would potentially treat some individuals as second class citizens.

I was under the impression the only rooms you wouldn’t land in via the Play Now button were the Uncensored Chat rooms. I’m pretty sure I’ve ended up in a Rainbow room that way.
I see Rainbow Lottso under the Competitve tab, but there aren’t any rainbow listings under the Team Play tab. There should be a room called Rainbow Riches somewhere in there too, but I don’t see it. I don’t see any uncensored rooms listed either.
You may have stumbled upon something here. I don’t want to rush to conclusions or claim that they’re treating people ‘as second class citizens’. Maybe make a list of the rooms currently and check them against the room list next week after the challenge is over?
I think I saw a post on Pogo about certain rooms being removed, this was a couple of weeks ago. I don’t remember where I saw it on the forums, so no clue how to get there again. It could even have been in a Letter to the Editor.
My memory is not what it was 20 years ago….LOL
The reply had something to do with removing rooms where there wasn’t much activity, but again, this is from memory.
I honesty don’t know why they would remove a room when there was a weekly challenge in that game, but who knows what Pogo is thinking.
It’s perplexing, actually. The two Rainbow rooms under the Team Play tab are consistently full. One of my friends is in there in the evening and it’s near impossible to drop in and say hello since there are usually well over 20 people in there. If room removal was something Pogo found necessary, my friend blatantly stated Pogo should’ve removed all the rooms from games hardly anybody plays (Flower Daze, Bloop, Harvest Mania), rather than the more-popular games.
My gripe is that room removal goes against Pogo’s camaraderie of playing games with friends and meeting new people. Room removal dictates (even for weekly challenges) “find new friends” elsewhere. I do know some German-speaking folks were upset, too, since they would be in a specific Lottso room daily and that, too, is gone.
I’ll leave this question open. This seems interesting. Were the uncensored and Rainbow rooms removed during the week merely for challenges or is it permanent? Poor Joe was very frazzled because he couldn’t find any of his Pogo friends due to the removal.
Maybe this is a letter for the editor? Or, better, Ms. Netiquette. I’d like to see her spew her tea over this one.
If Pogo has removed these rooms for any reason, it is very disturbing. Why would they not just reduce the number of temp rooms. I am hoping it’s just a coincidence, and not done intentionally. If the Rainbow rooms were specifically targeted, Pogo is opening itself up to some problems if folks want to pursue it.
Were the uncensored and Christian rooms intact? Frank, please keep me posted on what you discover via pogo mail one this site goes “public”. I will be happy to voice my concern to Pogo if needed. Don’t think they dare to respond publically but we’ll see.
Frank, I saw this while roaming the forums; you might want to check it out. You can find it at: Casino Games/Lottso/Rainbow Rooms? 2 were killed. That’s just one topic thread; there are a few others, too.
It’s a darn shame! Whatever we can do to help, please let us know; please keep us posted.
I agree that Ms. Nettie is probably the best way on getting an answer. When I couldn’t get a direct answer from anyone else about the badge with her name on it I emailed her. She researched it and actually put the email in her column. She was actually unaware of the badge until I emailed her. Rarely do you get a reply from anyone else at Pogo.
Perhaps Pogo is attempting to PC itself – by having rooms that are “targeted” towards GLBT, perhaps they had some complaint that people were being told to go there or felt “forced” to play there or face ridicule? Ok, I know I’m not making sense, sorry, the words aren’t coming today. But “special” treatment is not the PC thing to do these days, “equal” treatment is being demanded and I can easily see there could be some uproar there… just thinking out loud.
On some level, I’d be kind of glad if the Spiritual Rooms where gone. Ms Nettie’s article did little to remind people that spiritual does not equal christian and I miss talking to people of all religious backgrounds because I left because the rooms could be so hostile.
I know that POGO removed most of the uncensored rooms in Lottso during last week’s challenge and hasn’t reinstated them. I played for years in one of them and it was ALWAYS full. It was kind of a “homeroom” for many people who had ranked out and wanted to stop by and say hello. Needless to say many of those people are homeless so to speak. One person even wrote to POGO customer service and posted it to their message to all friends. It was a lame answer in line with that room didn’t have much play and that’s why they removed it. go figure.
I have never heard of Pogo removing any rooms during a weekly challenge – seems contrary to common sense. They HAVE removed rooms from games with no warning, however. I experienced it in Roulette when they deleted several named rooms (displacing several different communities who had been together for years) and had it happen to a League cribbage room once too. I hope someone did write to the Editor or Ms Nettie about this issue. Has anyone heard anything new? Have the rooms come back yet?
