This question has been closed by the author. What is up with the Chess winners?

I have noticed in the past few weeks that the majority of money prize jackpots have been given out in Chess. i found that strange but just figured maybe the game became more popular recently. however i have noted in the past 3 days that a player by the name wvmom858 has won 3 money jackpots in the same game. i decided to put her on my friends list and congratulate her, but when i did and followed her to chess, i came across the biggest mystery i have encountered on Pogo. for one thing her profile states she has been a member for 1 month yet she has over 100 million tokens , and no badges, but what really freaked me out was that in the chess room she would go in and out over and over jumping to different tables with players with a name “tester” with a large amount of different numbers following, there was about 20 of these “players” in the who’s here list and each one had the same male mini and only 50 tokens, she must have left and entered 50times in different tables with the different “tester players” and would not answer anything i said to her.the other players in the room said insulting things and acted very strange when i brought this issue up.does anybody have ANY idea what on earth is going on with Chess and Pogo?

The simplest possibility may be what’s truly going on: The account(s) are being used to harvest tokens to sell (there are tons of places online that sell pogo tokens) while simultaneously trying to harvest a couple of cash prizes. Neither is a get rich quick scheme …

I was also curious so I added WVMOM858. She now has over 200 million tokens and only signed up May 2 and has no badges. Someone in Pogo should investigate this. I never believed these prizes are legit as many times I added the winners to check. Alot of the winners have new accounts and no badges and just look fake. Very few look legit.

Makes one really wonder about Pogo and the curious oddities that go on in the site all the time. Are most of the prizes really awarded to actual Pogo members? We will probably never know the answer to that although Pogo definitely says that everything it legit.

I have to say that they are b/c of the laws in the USA. A company the size of EA would not risk their business for a $500 cash prize.

And since I know of 2 people that have won I have my own proof.

What most people don’t realize is that there are millions of players on Pogo and the chance of knowing someone who won is almost like winning the lottery.

MOMS, I just added WVMOM858 to my friends list and something sure is going on in that room….there are 4 or 5 people with the name of test and then a bunch of numbers and they keep going in and out of the room…..I tried to chat but no one would talk to me….try it and see what you think….

I have to wonder if these are pogo employees testing various aspects of the game. It would be odd to have a number of people with free accounts all starting with “test etc” for double browsing and only 50 tokens for the test players. And all playing in the non-member game rooms.

When I go to the winners page, this players name does not come up at all or I am blind. If it was showing in the chat messages, I wonder if it was automatic notice when players win but because they are employees, the “win” doesn’t show in the winners list.

Although the WVMOM848 is a club member since May 2, 2012 and has just under 200M tokens the only badge is the club pogo member badge. I can’t remember if chess gives badges for reaching levels (don’t think so) but it would be odd to not have a badge in something with that many tokens unless they were purchased tokens.

Memo to self: if they are messing with the chess game behind the scenes, play all personal undone chess badges while the tips sections still work!

Here’s what I “think” is going on. I think that there was someone who noticed all the prizes in chess and decided to spend their days in there using the chess moves to get a fast JP spin, and hoping that all the activity set off the prize spinner. I think that when Pogo audits their acct they will see what is going on and the prizes will not be awarded.

I also think that the “test” players are their dummy accts and they are testing to see if the JP prize spinner activates faster with 2 “live” players instead of playing again the bots.

When I first noticed this I was kidding with Beth that we should go spend our days in Chess and try to win something. We both decided that wasting our days and nights for the chance of $200 was not worth it.

They used to show the prizes by game, but you can no longer sort the prizes that way. I wish they did b/c I’d love to know how many are being awarded in Chess versus all the other games.

The table was set up to deny watchers and to not allow watchers to chat. I saw that earlier today when I looked at table options. it might be an autoprogram although not sure this would have allowed them to stand up and resume as noted unless someone was just checking progress and noted the requests etc. I would have expected someone who was checking programs as an employee or someone “cheating the system” with an auto program to have a closed profile. I am surprised hers is open. Has anyone tried leaving a message on her guestbook to see if it gets approved for showing?

This player has not left the room the entire day and is up to 201+ million tokens for their efforts now. I saw her at 199+million earlier.

I am surprised how popular this particular room is for chess. It is nearly always full compared to the other rooms.

    Answer from wearymom3
    posted 6 years ago

…and the mystery of the chess room deepens! Where is Sherlock Holmes when you really need him to solve this mystery!

I was able to get in the room and look at player profiles for the heck of it. Since this person plays only non rated games, I looked at player profiles that were not rated. There were really only a handful. The rest of the players in the room had ratings.

The non rated players with 50 tokens (“test with numbers” and “old” as part of the name for some others) and one random other player name seem to have mostly been created in May, 2012. One was February and one in January of 2012.

Their opponents were amazingly good at chess. One was a member since May, 2012 and had 108 million tokens! One was a laggard at 16 million since June 1, 2012!

One or two opponent profiles appeared to be legit with members based on longer time as pogo member, large tokens but gifts other badges and PBA that seemed to span time.

I also found it interesting that the original person in this thread popped in and out of the room 5 times in the 15 minutes or so that I was in there. None of the others did. Do autoprograms support entering and leaving programs like that? No clue!

So, the room seems to have an interesting mix of players (?) and is almost always full.

Several of us recall the chess wins announced in chat but I can’t find the name of the original player listed in the winners page [can someone else?] so it seems the “winner” isn’t really a winner upon review. This is what made me think it was Pogo employees testing the game for updates or changes in my original reply.

    Truly the mystery deepens.

Wearymom,,,great work! LOL. I sat in the lobby for about an hour (while on the phone with my long winded friend). About every one or 2 minutes she left then came back. When I started watching she was at table 95, she would pop out and back in to table 94 and kept going down 93, 92 etc. I think it’s a cheat program but why does she leave the lobby too and how is she getting sooo many tokens?? She’s at 203,700 now! Such a mystery.

    posted 6 years ago

Truly a shame what has happened in chess. Another chess “winner” announced in chat this am. It appears to be one of the autobot programs or cheat players if you look at the play pattern, tokens, and start with pogo date. Yesterday I added a number of players in that room to my friend’s list. They have played continuously for over 24 hours (yes, I looked when I had to get up in the middle of the night).

It is a shame that this is occurring and possibly preventing legitimate players from having a chance at a JP. The massive tokens are not really useful for anything unless one is shopping fanatic but even then it is rather silly. It probably explains why pogo doesn’t allow us to buy badges, Clue (and other) episodes, and memberships with tokens because of the autobot abuse.

I filed a report of abuse for cheating with pogo. Although they promised to look into this with the autogenerated email reply, in this game (and some others) I have to wonder if the abuse is so rampant and so easy to choose new names and start over that much will be done.

It does appear that the continuous play has validated that it isn’t pogo employees testing games but automatically running programs.

I suppose the more players that report these players the more notice that the EA/Pogo teams will get and might be able to suspend or stop the players.

Ok, I have been reading what you guys are saying about whatever this is that’s going on. But after reading your guesses, I can’t help but wonder if maybe these are the people that amass large quantities of tokens & then spam the lobbies to sell to those that are willing to buy tokens. They have to get large amounts of tokens to do this. Makes me wonder….. 0.0

    Answer from wearymom3
    posted 6 years ago

I don’t know who is controlling who in the room other than one can identify who the winners are by looking at the loser bots with the “test” and numbers names to see who they are playing. It is also very difficult to report them (click on name, click report abuse, click add player, click cheating, click done/submit) because of the rapid movement between tables that cause players to leave and not show up on the lists so one must be both patient and quick!

I think you can report up to 4 players at a time. I couldn’t do more.

They clearly are not receiving the JPs that won since there is no winner badge associated with the names. It annoys me that they are potentially mucking up JPs for legit players in chess or other rooms.

I sat with the player that was named at the start of this mega series. The player wouldn’t play me and hopped to the next numerical table. The dummy bot with a testnumber name landed on my table and bailed after a brief period as well.

There are reports of this in the Pogo chess forum going back multiple years and one forum poster identified a particular cheat/buddy program. There are multiple cheat programs out there for chess and a number of other Pogo games.

Sad that folks feel the need to use these to bump up a score, hack a JP (that they won’t be awarded) and ruin the play for a legit player who happens to hit “play now” and ends up in this sort of room that appears to be taken over by the non-legit players.

At some level it is even more sad that Pogo hasn’t caught on to this or has attempted to remove players only to have them come back under names.

If Pogo needs more Quality Control gaming help I have a family in desperate need of a job who would easily be able to review rooms for patterns of play before it becomes obvious to even the most clueless of general players.

I guess the more players that report these abuses, the more likely it is that Pogo might pay attention.

Hmmm. I guess we are reporting this issue. This came from Pogo/EA

    Thank you for contacting us.

I understand that you and others have reported this issue several times and it seems like the matter is only getting worse. The thing is, everything has a process. Being that there are about a million people or less on club pogo.com, we have to deal with every abuse matter equally and as fair as possible.

I would just like for you to know that every report that you made is viewed and took into investigation. The more evidence we have on this person the easier it will be to resolve this matter. We also have to make sure that we are doing it in the most proper and fair matter as possible.

The issue is getting looked into and should be resolved very soon. This abuser is only going to get what is coming to him/her and their actions are only going to catch up with them.

Please keep reporting and documenting everything and this matter should be resolved as fast as we can get to it.

Ok, there’s no doubt that theses people are using cheat programs. I just saw another person hopping tables with these *test* players. Her name is Mybabywabyonly. She made her account on May 26, 2012, that’s 8 days & she has already got over 155 million tokens AND she has ranked out in Aces Up, Perfect Pair Solitaire, Mahjong Safari (including the 2 in-game achievement badges) & get this, she even ranked out in Tri Peaks Solitaire, ALL 150 ranks!! There is NO WAY that could happen in 8 days even in 1 of these games, but all of them???

There is a site that has been advertising in the rooms regarding outlandish claims on ranking, tokens, etc. To do this amount of stuff in that amount of time they would almost certainly have to be opening a direct IP port to manipulate the game and site data. Whole different proposition than clicking on things. One would think Pogo would figure it out based on their winning cash prizes and Pogo checking their account. Robero mentioned recently that Pogo checks your account when you win something; one would assume this to be a no-brainer.

I’m surprised how little interest Pogo is apparently showing the reports on this user. I know they have limited staff and lots of reports, but, when you hear many people yelling fire, you tend to look for the smoke. I have heard of cheat programs for several years and have always wondered how they are able to write programs that play Pogo games without having source codes of the games themselves. Makes me wonder if Pogo has a finger in the cheat programs pie.

I saw mybabywabyonly’s actions and profile as well. It became rather easy to identify the tables that were using programs by looking at the -1 in the timing and watching the table hopping sequencing going on. I didn’t look at other games for ranking out though.

Did you notice if there were badges associated with the ranking out of other games?

I hope that many BH folks are reporting these actions. A friend and I are getting multiple emails from pogo from what appears to be increasingly higher levels regarding the issue. Some folks are no longer in game rooms although not sure if they are suspended or just stopped for awhile.

Ed, that was my thought that this was probably a bit more than just winning JP spins. It feels like pogo has been hacked and they are able to manipulate the JP and tokens awarded in spins as well.

There are other names associated with the losing “partners” and by looking at the game rooms carefully and watching the game progress they are identifiable as well. I do think someone got cocky and had multiple accounts playing “testnumber” bots. It seemed almost blatant. Others were not quite as obvious unless one watched play progression and looked at profiles.

So sad that people feel the need to cheat a game for no real obvious reason unless they are indeed somehow turning around and selling tokens but that seems just as silly.

I saw someone last week playing Poppit! who was popping all balloons over and over every second. I have the gifts notify on, so the chat window was scrolling really fast. His profile used to be public, so I saw he played 1001 games in about 10 minutes. He left and came back 10 minutes later and played another 501 games in about 5 minutes. He went from level 52 to 67 really fast. I’ve seen other people with a lot of pop all messages but this was ridiculous. It had to be some program that wasn’t actually playing, but getting credit. His token count kept going up and up. Who know why they bother.

Another Chess winner announced… xWrOnGWaYWiLlyx I watched this person table hop with the *test* bots in the same room as the others. If this is all so obvious to those of us watching in this short span of time, I can’t understand why Pogo can’t place someone to observe them in this room also.

They claim, as stated in the response wearymom3 posted, “I understand that you and others have reported this issue several times and it seems like the matter is only getting worse. The thing is, everything has a process. Being that there are about a million people or less on club pogo.com, we have to deal with every abuse matter equally and as fair as possible.” Ok, maybe there are “about a million people on club pogo.com” BUT this is happening in 1 room! All they have to do is plant 1 employee in the room to simply observe as we have been doing! The -1 clock, the table hopping, playing with the *test* bots, huge jumps in token counts after playing only a minute or 2, and the continuous, repeat jackpot winners is so blatantly obvious to us all!

OMG, as I sit here typing this, I am working on a badge, so I have time between rounds & low and behold ANOTHER name pops up! iMILESGIRL4EVER won $500 in chess on 6/03… I rest my case!

this is just “my” opinion… I think pogo is well on top of this… There is no point in kicking out the players as they will just get another account set up… Looking at it from pogos side, I believe they are monitoring their every move, and doing nothing at the moment until they figure out what program they are using so that they can set up a security to prevent it ever being used again…They need to disable the program, but first have to figure out how they can stop the program…not the players…I’m sure they’ll be dealt with at a later time…Maybe they are documenting everything in order to prosecute… Just my thoughts…

The new name to watch is paulapacheco2511. They have been playing with the *test* bots in that room and now have over 57 million and only made the name on June 1, so they got that amount in 5 days.

    Answer from wearymom3
    posted 6 years ago

There are both new names and new “test” dummy players each day. By looking for the tables listed as a -1 setting in the top legend you will see the test dummy player and the new name that is playing. There seem to be new names each day. Some have open profiles that indicate a long length of time with Pogo but the play is the same with table hopping, etc. Perhaps they succumbed to the siren call of tokens for all those outfits and cheap backgrounds.

When one clicks and looks at the table profile the times for the moves are all different. The -1 that shows in the top bar of the table set up is the main key to identify which tables are part of the program.

There have been names other than “test” that play with these folks on occasion but are the new player set ups with 10,000 or so tokens in the accounts.

If Pogo merely took away club membership but allowed access to the account, they really have no idea what to do with cheating players.

UNBELIEVABLE! Looks like wvmom858 is already back with a new name! It’s now WVMOMX4 and she made it today and already has 2 million tokens. Pogo needs to shut these *test* bots down, seems they able to access the illegal way of helping players do this.

    Answer from Mrs. Mike Brown

It sounds to me like the first WVMOM may have had a 5 day pass and bought a month. That would equal the month and 5 days her account was club. I do hope people are reporting the players on the -1 tables to force Pogo to take a look.

One of the profiles this am was created 6/5 and when looking at the badges in the profile, managed to rank out in: Hog Heaven, Thousand Island Solitaire, Perfect Pair Solitaire, the remaining balloon ranks in Poppit, Word Jong, Mahjong Garden, Mahjong Safari, and a couple more.

    ALL WERE COMPLETED ON 6/6/12.

    Seriously?

I guess that explains the 175 Million tokens since 6/5 as well.

Although chat is showing the “wins” from the lucky chess players, one can hope that the investigation will reveal the cheating that has occurred. Honest players have no chance of winning with this blatant cheating and corruption of pogo programs and the ability to create new profiles every few days or each month.

I think Pogo has to find out what program they are using and they may be using more than one…

I emailed Tahd and asked about this and the Poppit Cactus Quartet M&M badge that has been missing since April 10th…..hopefully he will pass the email on to someone that can do something about the problems.

Moms, I don’t think anyone (including Tahd) at Pogo really cares. Two more of the cheat program users “won” cash JPs today.

I actually got an email a week or so ago from Pogo advising me “this activity is actively monitor by us and there is not need to report players suspected of using automated devices”.

    Uhm right.

Not a need to report because they have thrown up their hands and do not care is more like it.

I disagree. Flagking8 is no longer a Club Pogo member. Someone in Pogo did take action against him.

There has been more than 1 person that has had their account disabled in the past few days.

Pogo DOES care and IS doing something. Sometimes it just takes a little bit of time for them to do something. They have more than this 1 problem to correct.

And just maybe they need to figure out what the program is so that they can stop the program, not just the players using it.

I don’t disagree that action has been taken against some of the players. I guess it is deceiving to check the winner list and see names in there like FlagKing and some of the others that followed the same pattern. Apparently their names are not deleted from the winners.

However, the players are simply coming back in under similar (or perhaps different names) and the practice continues on and on.

I know it is difficult to block ISP but if Pogo would spend 20 minutes a few times per day actively monitoring the room and booting out the “test” players and the ones that play with them. . . plus the one on the closed table with no setting and no opposite player, it might send a far stronger message than the players are receiving now.

To get the email from Pogo CS to not bother reporting because they are actively monitoring the rooms activity was rather disheartening.

I posted this on the weekend open thread. Maybe if more people would get involved, more action would be taken.

I contacted Pogo about this. My focus to them was on the credibility issue with prizes. They did not address that in their response, which follows. Hopefully then ‘cancel’ all prizes one sn wins if they are found to be cheating.

Thank you for contacting Pogo Customer Support.
Please know that if a player wins a prize in pogo more than once within 3 months, then please be rest assured that our prize team will forfeit/cancel that prize notifying the player of the same.
The player can thus receive the prize only once in 3 months.
Please be rest assured that our prize team is working it right to maintain a fair prize distribution amount players in pogo.
So, even if a player wins 4 prizes in a week, only first prize will be given to that player and the recent 3 prizes will be forfeited/cancelled by our prize team.
I hope this answers your question.
If there’s anything else, then please update the same question. I will be happy to assist you further on.

Pogo’s solution does not address the issues of cheating and hacking. It punishes the innocent player who, might against all odds, win more than one prize (there are those lucky souls out there) within the prescribed time frame. And if the first prize is smaller than any subsequent wins, that isn’t fair either. Granted, the chances of winning at all are small but Pogo keeps implementing “workarounds” to every problem they have met. Their quick fix workarounds just create more problems.

If they can’t deal with the sophisticated cheat and hacking programs, then they should drop the cash winnings. That will solve a lot of the issues.

Have I missed something? I’m unaware that someone with authority in Pogo has made public what they are doing about this issue. I’ve read the posts and most are complaints and opinions about what Pogo should and isn’t doing.

Perhaps we should be directing our passionate views and requests to Pogo’s editor via emails.

There are STILL names in Chess becoming winners as of today.
    Today is June 24, 2012.

June 29 update: Another ‘Baby Blue’ $100. winner today. PLAYEREIGHT. He’s had an account since June 15. WHEN is pogo gonna do something about this? It’s been long enough.

The players seem to be just changing names. It is relatively easy to pick out the blatant cheaters on the -1 table set ups playing with the bots that have “test” followed by strings of numbers. My favorite one currently is the person who joined on July 1, 2012 and has over 80 million tokens.

Seems to be quite active in both Baby Blue chess room and Hi stakes poker super high rollers. Gee, can’t imagine why!

On the flip side, it does seem as though the Pogo chess wins are slowing down the past few days instead of it being almost constant.

I have been staying out of this convo but just saw something kinda funny…one of the test people has now won $500 as well. Test with a bunch of numbers won on the 14th of July it just said on my game screen :(

The only good thing is that we know they will NOT get the money, but it is discouraging that it is still going on.

The chess wins are back in force again. Obviously with so much continuous play with the cheating the dummy bot player (test with numbers) and the actual cheat player with the free or Pogo accounts are bound to win something.

It takes a village to care enough to report the players (both test and actual cheating player) on a consistent basis to Pogo through the in game method. I will say that using the spam/cheat category is apparently quite low on the list for Pogo to care about. I did have one message from Pogo telling me to use the vulgar/obscene category as those are a higher priority for review.

I suppose if enough people cared and reported the players under the vulgar/obscene category Pogo might care enough to do do something on their own.

I wish they would remove the “winner” name from the category of winners though. It still looks like they have won prizes and that is not helping the Pogo credibility with players.
