To add to this question a bit, a while back I downloaded the free trials and got the first badge in each game (Even achieved Rank 10 in Poppit! Show).
However, I now have a new computer and so I was able to re-download the trials. I can no long find anywhere to sign in to my POGO account to achieve rank progress. Is this now only if you pay?
You will not get tokens, mini items, or rank badges unless you purchase the game from Pogo.

I can’t answer that as I only own 2 of the deluxe games, and both were from when Oberon was the vendor.
I did the same thing as you, did the free trial and got the first badge in all of them, but that was a very long time ago.
Hopefully someone else will have an answer to your question.
