Is anyone having problems with slow speed, jerking, and stalling in the game? I am trying to do the daily challenge and since one apparently has to actually finish all 4 rounds (NOT just get 8 giant balloons) to get credit, this has become a real challenge. My friend on a PC has the same problem as I am on the Mac today. I actually got mine using Safari but can’t play it at all on Firefox.

I play using IE and had no problem.
I am using Firefox and having the same problem. This may be one I write off since having problems and a strong dislike of the game to begin with.
I have had a problem with this game since its release. I basically have to inflate my balloons “blind” from lag. The only balloon I can see all the way through inflation is the balloon balloon. lol I have tried IE (which I usually have no trouble with), Opera, Firefox, Chrome. I have no trouble with the other games people usually complain about – Mini Golf, Risk, Puck’s Peak – but nothing seems to help this one. I have basically decided it just doesn’t agree with my older computer.
It is usually a little better right after I have cleaned everything out and with no other windows open. Perhaps that will help enough to get you thru the Daily Special.
My laptop has no problems playing Balloon Bounce, however I do notice that performance degrades if you play continuously for awhile. This is an issue with Java, not with the computer’s speed. When this happens, I finish a complete 4-round game, then close the game out and open a fresh one which usually helps. It may also help to increase the java memory limit, a little-known feature of Java which has to be changed manually. Let me know if you’d like to know how to do that.
Would love to hear how to do that, Ed – thanks!
Here you go Sheljin:
Unfortunately, I can’t post a version with pictures of the windows, but I hope this will work. It should survive reboots but you may want to check after a reboot that the memory change is still there. First, make sure that you are running the most recent version of Sun’s Java (1.6), which has memory improvements (and security updates) over prior Java versions.
— The following instructions assume Java 1.6 is already installed —
•Click on ‘Start’
•Click on ‘Control Panel’
•Double click on the ‘Java Plug-in’ icon (which may be under ‘Other Control Panel Options’).
•Select the ‘Java’ tab and click on the ‘View…’ button, under the ‘Java Applet Runtime Settings’ section.
•Find the most recent ‘Version’ Java runtime line and double click on the ‘Java Runtime Parameters’ box and add “-Xmx300m” (set Java maximum heap size to 300 MB) as you see below. Click ‘OK’. For some unknown reason, some computers with large amounts of installed memory are limited to how much memory they can assign to their Java VM. If you experience problems, just reduce the “300” to some smaller number (like 250, 200, 150, etc). That said, I have used 360 as well.
•Click ‘Apply’ to exit all dialogs. Close the control panel window.
If this doesn’t make sense, I can email anyone who wants a verision with screen shots.
Nice tweak Ed….thanks
Sounds great, Ed – thanks!
