What year did you join Pogo?
The weekend open thread is a regular feature at BadgeHungry. Every weekend, we answer the discussion question above, and chat about anything game-related. It’s a great place to test the waters of commenting and introduce yourself, ask for help with a game or challenge, or talk about your games and make friends.
See you in the comments!

2004. I was excited about it. I told my mom all about it, because I knew she liked word games and solitaire. Later I looked at her profile and saw that she had joined in 2003. Funny that she didn’t say a word about it.
She played for the rest of her life. I still have her on my friends list. I don’t see any reason to remove it.

Hi Kia, It’s really not “My” video (if I could do it on youtube I would, LOL)
I just help out Joy, the girl that does the videos and put them here and in the Badgehungry Community when she puts them out.
They have been helpful to many people and others not. oh well, can’t please everyone.
Have a wonderful weekend 🙂

I joined in 2001. I had just been diagnosed with breast cancer and had a few surgeries that kept me home. Right before I started Chemo, 911 happened and really needed to keep busy since my anxiety level was so high. My cousin recommended Pogo so I joined and started playing. At the time, Word Whomp was my number one game, then off to Mahjong Garden, and eventually checking all the games.
There are times that I feel inundated with what we need to get done for badges when it feels more like work than a game. I joined Club Pogo shortly after it came out.
Thanks to all for help from this site over the years.

June of 2004. Hubby in August 2004 after he and I got hooked on tri-peaks, and especially pinochle and lottos. I loved tx Holden poker. Those were the days when you could read chat anytime, and make friends. As I said before, now you have to open chat, and you can only talk to your friends if they have their chat open.. A lonely game site now.
vibirdlady says
So agree! Many of my friends are gone now. Do have a couple still on here.

I started playing in 1999. I joined as soon as it became a club in 2003. I remember playing Poppit all the time because I was sure I was going to win the jackpot. It was a large amount at the time. The only thing I ever won was wallpaper!😂
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Cher. 🥰😊

It shows I joined in 2003 which seems about right I played for a while before I joined, a friend of mine turned me on to Pogo, she hasn’t played in years but I’m still here.

I started playing slingo with one of my aol accounts in 1999., but my son passed that summer, my husband had a heart attack and became an amputee and playing pogo filled many voids in my life. I dropped all my accounts and I joined Pogo with my Bryanjul account in 2003

I used to play Password with some friends, on another site (I cannot remember the name of the actual game site) – and they eventually retired the original game and replaced it with an inferior format (sounds familiar, doesn’t it? 😉 ). We wanted to find a place where we could play and chat, so started playing a few different places…and eventually stumbled upon Pogo. Started out playing hours and hours and hours of Euchre – and then discovered tokens and badges…and an obsession was born
Joined the free site in…2002 (maybe early 2003) – and joined Club Pogo a few weeks after it was launched

I joined in October 2001. I played pinochle as it has always been my favorite card game. I still play it and am in a league through another game site. I also played a word game; I can’t remember the name now but it was played on teams and we had a wonderful time playing!! I was so sad when they took that away. They tried bringing it back briefly but it wasn’t the same and not many played it. I enjoy playing games and even though pogo has made some changes that I don’t care for I enjoy doing the challenges just for the challenge of completing them. I’m just glad I found BH to help me with ways to complete them.

Joined in 2012. I played it on and off before then, playing mostly backgammon and pinochle until that became a club only game. Decided to join when someone I friended also liked pinochle and sent me a guest pass good for 5 days. Then I did a free 2 week trial that Pogo had at the time off of that, then joined.

I’ve been a member of Pogo so long I don’t remember what year I joined, other than sometime in the last century. LOL (sometime in late 1990’s) I’ve been a member of Club Pogo since it first started. It was worth the fee not to have those annoying intermissions and ads, which was originally the whole point of club pogo– way before badges and mini’s.
Donna H says
I have been a member since October 2007. Mostly happy years and fun. However last 2 years not so good. I cant stand Garden Blast, Quinns,Snowbird. Pogo gives us way to many goals to do. I would like only 1 goal a month and then we could have time to work on badges we have purchased or to level up. I wish they would give up our tokens back. And wish they would make the remimum albums of badges they use too, I miss all those albums/ Rant over.

I started in the late 90s and joined when pogo started charging, I believe in 2001 or so.. I had a lot of friends in the chat rooms and everyone had a great time. We got together in different parts of the US when people were traveling in the summer, winter, etc. It was a lot more casual then. It was not played to see how many badges you could get etc. , I met a very special person and we traveled a lot together. Things have changed with pogo and life and I feel we are too tied down too much to the game and badges these days. We played a lot of boggle Bash, Hog heaven slots, penguins and battle ship. Games were easy and not too mind stressing. I miss those and I will probably miss some of these when I leave too. It is just not fun anymore. Too much like a job… and I don’t want a job either.

I started Pogo before it became a membership site. I refused to pay for it, but at some point I caved in. I’ve been a member since June 2002.
I left Pogo for about 5 years and came back about 10 years ago.

I became a member is 2006. My brother-in-law (who was a Pogo member) challenged me to a game of Pogo Bowl. Wasn’t long after that that I became a member. Sadly, my BIL passed in 2021 from Covid. However, I always think of him whenever I play Pogo Bowl.

original Pogo account started in 2003. Played at work during lunch. When I retired I lost my password & had to open a new account in 2010.

I used to frequent this place called BigBigForums. They had all kinds of things there, from freebies to contests and all that sort of thing. Every single day someone was asking for a free Pogo pass. I kept wondering what Pogo was. So, one day I decided to check it out. I played for a week and I was hooked. Looking back, and it seems funny now, but, my favorite games were Fortune Bingo and the Pig game, I can’t even remember the name of it anymore! lol But yeah, I joined after that week, my husband was so happy that I had found something I enjoyed! That was July of 2007. I used to love Pogo so much and made so many good friends but they are all gone now. Everyone left or passed away. Sad to say but true. I don’t love Pogo like I used to and I keep threatening to quit but haven’t done it yet.
SAT says
The Pig game was Hog Heaven Slots. I loved that game too

December 2008 and was obsessed with Pogo Bowl. I loved that game but now it is one of the games I wish Pogo would delete from its list of games…Pogo ruined Pogo Bowl!!! :'( I still love Word Whomp and Tri-Peaks which I ranked out in long time ago, it was a go to game for me. 🙂
Have fun, everyone! 🙂

2000 that’s when I started. I loved it back then. Played for gaining rank never played for badges. Remember when over 250,000 people played the weeklies. Such a good time with lots of friends. Not anymore – loved the spooki slots. So many people would talk and laugh.
nessa says
Jude, I too remember well when they were way more than 250,000 people “playing now”
Those numbers were the ones that made me finally pay for Club Pogo.
This goes like this:
I joined in 2008 as a free member.
Then joined Club a couple years later after taking advantage of a special offer that was: 1-month of free access to Club Pogo and 60,000 tokens (which was close to double my then total token count). At the time I wasn’t really interested in Club but I did want the tokens !!! lol Needless to say I loved Club and having access to some club exclusive games like Jungle Gin and Texas Hold’em to mention two but I still was reluctant to pay not because of the money but because I kept wondering if it was safe to give pogo my credit card info, what if the whole thing was some kind of scam or if my cc info was stolen or things like that, and then I saw the “magic number” lol “435,000+ playing now” (cross my heart it was that many) and I thought something like “Half a million persons can’t be wrong, if close to half a million gave their cc info then my info is safe too!”
The rest is history.
Some time later I realized that half a million players didn’t mean all were paying members rofl but same, I’ve a been a club member for close to 14 years and my cc info has been safe all that time hehe
By the way, I have always been a night owl, the number of players online you could find at 3 or 4 AM back then was around 35-40,000 which I’m sure, is higher than the number of players online now on day-time, peak hours, even on badge wednesdays!
(and the numbers keep going down I’m sure but this is another story lol)
Brenda M. says
Nessa, I definitely remember those days and I played all day and sometimes into the night then. I miss those days so much!!
Lizz says
And didn’t we all have so much fun!! Those were good days and pogo was good and chat and all of it. Yes, some games were hard but we all did them and I was a night owl right up there with you.. We also played games to help each other win so no one was left behind.

I remember when there was a ton of people here in pogoland, especially when there was a chance to win the $.4999.00 jackpot!. I get that pogo had to make games different due to Java and flash, but if they could make the games like they did way back when, and bring back the games people enjoyed better than Quinn’s and GB snowbird we would have more paying members. They ruin every revamped game that comes out! Got excited when Boggle was released, now I don’t even play it.

Pogo says and I agree I joined CLUB Pogo in March of 2000. But I played Pogo when it was baby Pogo! 1998 and I remember in 1999 (husband had open heart surgery). Lotta ads around the Internet.. And I saw one that said Play BINGO. ROFL!!!! We had a very tiny rebuilt computer from a friend. And I loved Bingo. And Pogo’s bingo fit my tiny monitor!!! So, that’s my beginning! I met the coolest, nicest friends and some are still Pogo Pals (or offline friends) today.
Many left to go to FB. I was saddened but I got a lot of free albums. But I joined CLUB because the ads were tooo much!
I don’t like some of these newer games, but right now they’ll have to pry my fingers off the keyboard!
Happy Sunday and Week to ALL!!! <3

I started pogo when it first started and was free of gems. Before Pogo I played on uproar, which had a trivia game you could win money. I got a check every month. Then pogo got my attention. The players I have chatted with and made my friends helped me through losing my daughter and later losing my husband. I would have lost my mind without pogo friends sending me kind messages. This pogo of today is expensive when you have to buy gems to win games. The old pogo without gems, I earned the top badges of about 50 games. Anyway, I am now a senior citizen and would have no life without pogo, so I am staying.
Diane Gray says
I started playing in 2001 I believe but officially became a Club Pogo member in January of 2002. Got sick of the annoying ads; that is how they get people to become a Club member lol. I really do miss some of the old games like Hearts, Cribbage, Monopoly The World Edition, Word Whomp Whackdown, Hog Heaven Slots. They should take a poll and put a list together of some of the old games and whatever game has the highest number, they should work on bringing it back.
