Happy Weekend Everyone!
Do you buy badges as soon as they come out, or do you wait for a sale?
The weekend open thread is a regular feature at BadgeHungry. Every weekend, we answer the discussion question above, and chat about anything game-related. It’s a great place to test the waters of commenting and introduce yourself, ask for help with a game or challenge, or talk about your games and make friends.
See you in the comments!

I usually wait for a sale. However, having said that, if there’s a badge in a game I really like like Word Whomp, Spades, or Canasta, or something, then I’ll splurge and buy it. I’ve done a lot of splurging lately because it seems like sales have taken a dive lately. The last sale in fact contained several badges I wouldn’t buy for any price. LOL
Last weekend we had unassembled snowmen descending upon us in New England, this weekend it’s in the 70’s, just in time for us to honor our Vets. For all who are Vets — Thank you for your service!!
Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Did you do your job and assemble any then? LOL
Renee (nayciebug) says
It depends on the game. If its a game I really like to play I will go ahead and buy them. otherwise I will wait until they go on sale and then I may or may not buy them.

I like to wait for a sale…..
MomsBassetHound says
I have always purchased them on the day they are released.
I hit 100,000 Pogis this morning on my Moms account. I still have one badge to do for the Garden Tea Party and will complete that tomorrow after the new constellation is live.
I stopped at 33,000 Pogis on my 2nd account. There weren’t any other power ups that I was interested in, so will not finish any badges until tomorrow. I’ll just work on getting enough progress on what I have so that I can finish them off between tomorrow and Tuesday.
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!

Suz, congrats on 100,000. I gave up at 85,600 and decided to hold off on what I have till the next constellation. Part of my not getting 100,000 was lack of time. For the last few weeks had to cover someone else’s hours at work along with my hours so been working a LOT!! If not for that I just might have been able to do it.
I also usually buy on the day or day after they are released.
Little delayed with this but on Oct 20th I hit 15,000 badges y–y–

I don’t feel the need to wait anymore since sales are far and few in between, certainly not as often as they were back in the “Old Pogo” days when we often had % sales on M&M badges or BOGO on M&M badges and others as well such as HOG episodes. So now I buy the badges I want when I want to buy them without hesitation.
That being said, I am a little hopeful that the Black Friday and Cyber Monday events that Pogo Llama speaks of in her latest blog might bring a badge sale so I might hold off buying more badges until we see what that will be all about ; Also , The 25 Days of Pogo offered gifts, free badges, and reduced prices last December, so I’m hopeful the tradition will continue this year. Fingers crossed 🙂
Gypsy2251 says
I try to buy the badges on sale, and the ones with the highest pogis points in games that I like to play. I never did buy too many badges, but since the pogis constellations I have been buying badges to help me get to the final level..
I am also hoping that they have a sale coming since we are coming into Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Also maybe during the December 25 days of Pogo.
Mickey Smithson says
I rarely buy any badges whatsoever. It just gets so expensive with so many going for more than 16 gems.
DeeVermont says
Now that constellations are on the Pogo horizon I look at badges differently then I used to thus my priorities have changed. If the badge has a high amount of pogis and I can tolerate the game then I will buy the badge as I enjoy getting to a high level (in the constellation) in order to receive the power-ups as well as gems.
That said my first priority is to enjoy the game and if that game (badge) has a higher amount of pogis I won’t hesitate to buy it right away.
I do love sales and have bought many on sale that I didn’t own before.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Dee
Bottom line: there are many variables that come into play before I buy badges.
Madeforlovingguy says
Years ago I used to buy every single badge as soon as it came out and generally completed it within the first couple of days. But then around 6 years ago I lost my job and had to give up Pogo for 6 months. After having a complete collection this was hard missing out on limited and special edition badges. After 6 months I came back but only on a month to month basis but I couldnt afford gems.
I have since got a job but only on a very limited income and my partner just lost his job due to the pandemic and we face eviction. So now I rarely buy badges but really hate missing out on the bundles and badges in favourite games. But life comes first, I have 2 gorgeous rabbits to think about. I do use the gems from the tiers for badges but can barely make it through silver because I can’t buy badges which is also pretty soul destroying. But it did help my badge addiction.
Stay safe and have a great weekend everyone. Back into lockdown here in the UK so Pogo is my stress relief.

Dear Madeforlovingguy,
Your story really touched my heart because I lost a full time job with benefits during the worst of the Great Recession and I was unable to land a job for a very long time.
I am single and have a beloved dog and 2 precious cats that I must provide for. When I had no income, I remember feeling so very responsible to make sure that they never suffered or lacked proper love, care, and food. So, your comment about your two beautiful rabbits resonated with me very much. I am also glad that you have your partner so you can face your difficulties together.
Here in the US currently, the CDC has declared a moratorium on evictions until the end of 2020 if the evictions were due to job loss related to the pandemic.
I would imagine that the UK has even better protection for you and your family since the US is generally pretty heartless about caring for those who are in a tough position like yours.
Good luck to you and I hope you will be able to look back on this time with relief when things ultimately work out for you in the future.
Carol
P.S. Regarding this week’s topic, I have always picked and chosen which badges I will pay for based on whether I like the game involved and the badge’s artwork. If it’s really gorgeous I have been known to force myself through a game I don’t really like so I can add the badge to my collection. I do also wait until one is on sale if it’s not from one of my absolute favorite games (like Canasta)
Happy badging everyone! C.

Aww thank you. Its tough but just take each day as it comes, and the rabbits are what get me up in the morning and keep me going. Especially Brambles, he loves to play chase before breakfast and then sits by the kitchen waiting for his veggies. Such wonderful and caring creatures.
As for eviction while that’s stopped at the moment because I fall further and further behind in rent I know if things go back to some sort of normal I could end up homeless but right now I am doing all I can to ensure that doesn’t happen.

I sometimes have bought a badge as soon as it came out if it is for a game that I really like. Otherwise I will wait until maybe I need a badge for the pogis down the road and halfway like the game. I like playing games where I win something. I just don’t like playing just to play.
Kygirl1942 says
I used to purchase all badges as soon as they came out….did for almost 20 years. Then, when EA took away all our tokens, I stopped buying badges. Have not purchased one since then.
Bonstance41 says
I don’t think I have ever gotten a badge the day it came out. Come to think of it, I don’t think I have even bought a badge that wasn’t on sale. (That reflects my personal grocery and clothing shopping habits too!) I buy very few badges, but with the gems from the constellations and yearly membership I buy sale badges here and there in games I particularly like.

I purchase them as they become available.
I too hit 1000.000 today.
I have 1 tea party badge left in Quinn’s that I will do on Tuesday plus a bunch of Nocturnal Animal badges to do.

Hi “EVERYONE”;
I did not join Club Pogo until “June, 2011” and at that time I only bought badges I really liked to play. However, a couple of years later I got to know “MomsBassetHound” aka “Suz” and she convinced me to buy all badges when they were released. Badgewise, I’m now a member of the “15,000” badge club. Also this past Thursday, I earned my “100,000” Constellation pogis and also completed the Garden Tea Party. Thanks “BH” for introducing me to so many very helpful members at your great site. “GOOD LUCK EVERYONE”!

I always wait for sales. I’ve never paid more than 12 gems for a badge.
daxmomma says
I’ve never paid actual money for a badge. The very few I’ve ever bought were with the “free” gems that Pogo gives you when you renew your membership. I think it’s a better use for my “free” gems to use them to buy an extra episode of HOG games, because then I can use it over and over along with the one free one Pogo always gives you when they introduce a new game for any badge challenge that comes along in that HOG.

I purchase the sets of badges, i.e. seeds, nocturnal animals, flowers, etc. but those are the only sets I purchase. If I like a game, I will purchase badges for it, although it depends on how many gems it is costing. I always look at the sale badges and do purchase those if I can play the game. I have become pretty easy to sell badges to during this pandemic because I stay home so much. Hopefully this will be over soon and we can all get out and enjoy more of life.

Hi all,
Off topic:
If anyone is missing pogis from the last constillation then it’s an error on pogo’s end as mine are only showing as 63,000 instead of 163,000. I have just been on to help and they confirmed that it was random players so I just wanted to let anyone who is missing pogis that it is being looked into.
As for badges:
I will buy them in games I like otherwise I wait for a sale.
Have a good weekend
