Happy Weekend Everyone!
For this weekend’s topic, you can give an answer relating to Pogo games or relating to life in general. Your choice! Or do both!
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
The weekend open thread is a regular feature at BadgeHungry. Every weekend, we chat about the discussion topic, or anything else game-related. It’s a great place to test the waters of commenting and introduce yourself, ask for help with a game or challenge, or talk about your games and make friends.
See you in the comments!

It was a tip for Spades from Mod Kyra. She mentioned that the bots always bet blind if they get behind, and if you set the minimum blind bid to 8 that they will never recover. I’ve never lost a game since.
We’ve had a big weather change this week in Montana, and a big storm coming in tomorrow. There will be 2 to 3 feet of snow in the mountains, and 3 to 9 inches in the valley. We’ve had snow before in September, but nothing but a dusting that disappeared in a few minutes. This is very different, and not looking forward to it.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hi “Suz”;
How do you set the minimum blind bid to 8? I just played a game against and with robots and my teammate and I led the game from the start and won the game as well. However, I never saw the option of setting the minimum bids to 8. Also when I clicked play people, I never saw that option. Thanks in advance.
MomsBassetHound says
You have to set up your table, and it will be in the advanced options.

The best piece of Pogo advice was given to me many years ago from a dear friend I met on Pogo and she told me about Badge Hungry, and how she goes to it each day and gets such good tips about badges, games, etc. So, I started coming to Badge Hungry for tips and help about badges, and believe me, there were many times that without Badge Hungry’s help, I wouldn’t have gotten the badge(s) I was working on! I didn’t use to comment at that time, I just read the tips and advice. Now, in the past few months, I felt it’s time to join in the conversation and give other some help and tips also! I am happy to have found Badge Hungry, and all the many nice people on here who all help each other.
Suz, I’ve been listening to the weather channel in the past couple of days, and heard about the snowy weather and possible power outages your state might get. Just wanted to let you know that you and everyone in Montana is in my prayers that the snow will be light and the power outages will be few, and that it will all be over with soon and melt soon afterwards, too! Good luck, and God bless you all in Montana!
Cher says
Suz..do you have to allow blind bidding in the regular options? I saw the minimum of 8 in the advanced. I have a challenge that I have to win several games in a row. I haven’t been able to do it.
Hope you’re surviving the snow storm. They talked about it on our news. It’s too early for that! 🙁
Thanks and have a good weekend!
Cher
MomsBassetHound says
It may be part of the default settings, not sure. It’s been so many years since I customized my settings that I don’t remember.
Before going to advanced options you will see it, just make sure there’s a check mark to allow it.

Thanks so much. I will give it a try.

The challenge was to get 3 fruit gems in Bejeweled Twist and it was multiple members that gave me great tips on how to do that since I rarely play that game. I don’t remember all the member names but I do remember RyzandShyn who typed it out when we had that challenge.
Moms (Suz) please stay safe in the snow. Won’t be long before I’ll be getting it.
Have a good weekend everyone!

That is nice to hear. Glad I could help! 🙂

Suz
Mozartjea says
So, what was the tip(s) you are referring to?
Julia
DeeVermont says
Hi Mozartjea,
This is the tip I remember doing from RyzandShyn in which I got the badge in no time:
Bejeweled Twist –
It takes a bit to get from the beginning up to the 10X Multiplier, so set that part up before Wednesday.
Then you’ll be ready for the Rainbow Chain Meter which brings you to the fruit gems.
Then, these are the things that have helped me with the game over the years:
1) Just go slow – there’s nothing timed, so take your time
2) Let the sparkles show you a move, – if you’re looking at the board and just don’t see a move or if you’re getting confused, let the sparkles show you the move.
3) Always” be the twist” – before you twist either follow it around with your eyes, or if you need to you can bring your finger to “draw” the twist you have planned

1) Moms told us how to succeed at Poppit Bingo: “Here’s my basic Poppit Bingo strategy…
Always play in the highest room available to you. The tickets cost more, but the rewards are much better too.
Always play 4 cards.
Always use power ups. I prefer to just use the golden balloon power up & the power up with the question mark on it. That gives you more prize balloons.
Never call a bingo during the game UNLESS it’s 1 of the first 3.
Always use the cactus cannon.”
2) Someone explained how to get the badge in Jet Set Solitaire for an 11-card streak 40 times: San Francisco airport…Click on the Crab…for a 23-card streak. There is NO way you cannot get an 11-card streak on that level. Hit the Ace, then the King, then work towards the left side.

Glad I could help!

The Crab level also works in the opposite direction–from Ace to the 2 on the right 🙂

Happy Weekend everyone. i’m going too be working on my badges for jungle jin. I have too underknock my opponent. i’m having a hard time trying too figure out how too do this. i’ll be so glad when I get them. I keep reading how too play so hopefully this weekend I can get all 3.
Curiouskas2 says
Hi sashca2002.
I believe I’m right, but in Jungle Gin the best way to under knock your opponent is to set the game to “Oklahoma Gin” and allow knocking. Try and get your hand down to just one ace as quickly as possible (example, a set of 2s a set of 6s and a run of clubs that doesn’t need an ace), and then wait for the opponent/bot to go Gin with a higher remaining number of remaining points in the hand. Even if you tie it does count towards under knocking your opponent, even though every once in a while when playing against the bots it will call gin.
It doesn’t take long to win the badges with this strategy, as usually the bot will have 2 or more gin points remaining in the hand when it knocks.
Hope this helps.
sashca2002 says
thank you so much. i’ll try that.
MomsBassetHound says
If the opponent goes Gin you lose. The opponent has to knock, and you have to have the same or less deadwood in your hand than they knocked with.
The key is that you don’t knock, your opponent has to knock.
Suz
Figgs3374 says
In Oklahoma Gin, an Ace is worth 15 points, so don’t go for that…….sit there with a two and hope the bot doesn’t go Gin, but has more than 2 in its hand.
I play it all the time…..in fact, mostly it and Jet Set.
Have a good weekend……..Heather.
FADEDWILDROSE says
Whether the aces are 1 or 15 is set up in the options when setting up a table. Aces can be set either way whether the table is set for Oklahoma or not.
Life4Style says
I play Oklahoma, unless the badge requirement says differently. I always try to set aside a 2 (or lowest possible card from the one that is drawn), at the beginning of the game, so I won’t play it. I just try to play a regular game, but always keeping the lowest card available . If I get three 2’s during the play, then I save out a 3. Beware of the face cards and the aces the bots throw away (unless you can use them to finish a set) — it could be a trap, signaling they are ready to go gin or to knock.
beverly connelly says
I have 2 children (adults now), who bickered about everything. A friend advised that if they were to share something, have one divide it and the other have first choice. Oh, the peace and quiet!
aslls11 says
In Jet Set solitaire, never buy or use the Undo power-up. Scoring in Jet Set solitaire is based solely on runs. If you accidently missed a card and use the undo to go back and get it, that card will be counted as a run of one. It is far better to just move forward and hope to pick up that card in another run.
Life4Style says
I really found Frank’s tips for Risk to be very helpful. I had never played the game as a kid, and I was really confused. After using their tips, I began to like and it became one of my favorites.
Tom, also had a good tip for the game, and I used it, if I was pressed for time.
I, too, have gotten so many tips for so many games that I can’t recall them all. But as has been said Moms and RyzandShyn also come to mind as good tipsters, Lura has had some, also.
A big thank you to everyone who has provided tips for the games. They are much appreciated.
Another piece of good advice I got was to always check Badge Hhyngry before logging into any game. LOL
I saw on the weather report you are about to receive those unassembled snowmen, Suz. I hope you have your snowshoes ready. I think the earliest I’ve seen snow in MA is Halloween. But I’m sure it’s not far behind, if we have as wet a winter as we had a wet Spring.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Well, I gave myself some very wise advice a little over a week ago. Unfortunately, I did not heed it. The matter of concern was the Snap Shop promotion wherein if you completed 5 challenges, Pogo would reward you with 3 bonus badges. Since I have learned to live in dread of Pogos’ gifts, I decided not to complete 5 challenges but to settle for just 4. And that’s what I did…. 4 badges, all done. Last weekend I finally had time to focus on the many new Claire Hart badges (like zillions) and rampaged through them clicking on anything and everything that looked, sounded or smelled like a Claire Hart. Just get ‘er done! Suddenly, one WHITE-FRAMED winner bounced up. Something was NOT RIGHT! Oh noooooo , 4 and now 1 more do indeed make the winning 5 Snap Shots.. I have yet to forgive myself for such reckless gaming, but there’s a chance that Pogo will be considerate and the 3 gifts will be acceptable making Me, Myself and I a solid team again. Stay tuned……………………. lol
Cindy4764 says
Well, for your sake and sanity I hope the badges we receive are ones you like. Me too as I did five snapshots also, hoping the badges are ones I want to do and won’t join the “probably never do” growing pile, lol.
jigsawing says
“………. for your sake and SANITY” lol lol You certainly sized it up perfectly! Thanks for being on the same page a I am.
RyzandShyn says
Yikes! We were of like minds on the “fear the reward” issue. Fingers crossed that your reward is something you like to do. Hope you can not fret until it arrives.
But….Congratulations on finishing all those Claires – that must feel good. 🙂

still trying to play pogo..tried all browsers, cleaned history, cookies, did disk clean up, tried on a new computer, talked to pogo twice, and everything else..does anyone have any ideas why the browsers are not working? you’d think pogo would just give people the marathon badge in games they have issues with especially when they tried everything and contacted pogo. if anyone has any idea as to what I could do so I can play daily suduko? and also on trizzle, every time I click on a doll the whole game board moves making it difficult to play the game.
jet set, poppit bingo. a lot of the times the game board just has black squares and nothing else and a couple other games that happens..
MomsBassetHound says
The fix on Trizzle is quite easy, I have to do it myself.
It happens when you use Edge, so just click on the doll you want to move twice, and it will move, without moving the whole game.

I will try that…thank you

I have received so many tips and advice that enabled me to play better, and to win games and complete badges that it is impossible to mention them all. So I’ll mention two that come immediately to mind,
Going back some years, when I complained about there not being a mute button in some of the games Lura responded with the information that Google Chrome had one built into its browser. This enabled me to listen to my audio books while I played the many slot machine games, and simultaneously listened to audio books or watched Netflix on my computer. Pogo life-altering knowledge! (Now I can separately listen to them on my cell phone, lol)
I could never find the fruit in time to shoot it down in Zuma’s Revenge until some kind individual explained that there was a specific sound made when it appeared. Since I always play with the sound off I would NEVER have discovered this on my own.
There are innumerable other hints, shortcuts, explanations I received here. Can’t mention them all, but surely appreciate them.
luvshoes21 says
The best piece of advice I have ever been given has nothing to do with playing Pogo games. Instead, it’s a quote that I read as a teenager that has stayed with me my entire life.
“To achieve immortality, one must first live a life worth remembering!” These were the words of the late, great Bruce Lee, and I believe they are words that all of us should take to heart.
I will never be famous, but after I am gone, I do want to be remembered. So I try to be kind to everyone I meet, and if possible, try to help when I can.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

The two best pieces of advice I’ve ever received both have to do with romance, but could pertain to life in general. And although I’m happily married and have been for years, I’ll share them here:
If a man ever tells you that you’re too good for him, he’s right.
~/Kiki’s Mom
Beware the man who wants to protect you – he will protect you from everyone but himself.
~/Erica Jong
The best Pogo advice I’ve ever received was right here on BadgeHungry and I regret I cannot remember who offered it. It was the directions on how to activate multiple challenges at one time. Whoever you are, I owe you a kidney. Just say when.
jean123coop says
Kiki – While I am not the person you are looking for as far as how to activate multiple challenges, I wanted to tell you the two pieces of advise you passed along are top-notch! A half hour later, I am still smiling here. Thank you for sharing and take care of yourself!

My mother gave me two pieces of advice I have never forgotten. When we were kids sometime in May we would start wishing for school to end, looking forward to a nice long summer break but about 3/4 of the way through summer we’d be wishing school would start again so we could see friends etc. My mother would tell us “don’t wish your life away, the older you get the faster it goes”, and it has certainly proved true.
She also had the mantra “Anything in moderation”. I believe this one also.

I come to Badge Hungry daily; can’t remember all the tips I’ve gotten here. But I did get a good tip just this past week as I was rushing to finish the last couple games for the latest marathon or whatever it was called. Knew Tumble Bees would take a lot of games at getting only 3 of the 5-letter words in Bonus game. Found out that to get the Bonus game you need to have submitted 3 of the 5-letter words (always wondered why sometimes I’d get the Bonus and sometimes not). Now I know! But the best part was to do a bunch of shorter than 5-letter words first and then do the 5-letter words once the letters have stacked up some. That way all the words were counting – was getting 12-15 words a game instead of 3; so finished that badge in a half dozen or so rounds! Yeah, I like it, but not too much of it in a row.
Still in the 80’s; feels like mid-90’s here in FL. Think I’ll stay indoors too, but to stay cool instead of warm!

Pogo is soooo messed up. Did you see the announcement on the Front Page of Pogo saying “Coming Friday: October’s Game of the Month.” If you read the announcement, it says Club Pogo Members can expect to receive 4 badges on the first. Hmmmmm
Cindy4764 says
It says 4 “challenges” on the first which we always get for the GOTM and we have the whole month to do them to get the animated badge. I’m OK with CC being GOTM, shouldn’t be very hard badges.
MomsBassetHound says
Her point was that the 1st is on Tuesday, not Friday.

Thank you Moms! That was exactly my point for the comment.

The best piece of Pogo advice I have received was from Lura. When you sent us an email reminding us that we don’t have to do every marathon or every badge, this really hit home with me. I was one of those who tried to do every marathon that Pogo was throwing our way. After receiving that email, I was able to come to terms with the fact that I was stressing myself out for no good reason.
Thank you, Lura, for your great advice!
Jean says
You are so right. I was driving myself crazy trying to complete all challenges, even when it cost me gems.
The newest group of challenges, I only did the free ones and left the rest alone
Catherine L says
I stopped the magic marathon at 40. I have too many undone badges and I don’t seem to get time to do them. I decided that I wasn’t going to do everything thrown at us to have more undone. I have 5 done in the snapshot marathon or whatever it is called. I don’t know one from the other these days. lol
googoodoll63 says
The best piece of advise I always remember came from Judge Judy – “If something doesn’t make sense, It’s probably not true.”
The best for Pogo came from Badge Hungry, of course! Two that come to mind were:
1. Setting up the game in Monopoly to play by itself.
2. Ranking out in Jungle Gin faster by playing Oklahoma Gin. If the first card is a spade, you get double points. If double browsing, you can play like regular gin and wait to go out when you get the other hand to have the maximum points. You can get up to 260 points in one hand this way. Hopefully, this will still work when they come out with the HD version.

Jean says
Doe anyone know an easy way to advance in Canasta? It takes forever to get Red 3’s?
Curiouskas2 says
Hi Jean.
If you don’t care about winning the hand or tokens, set the table to just two players (you and a bot). Just keep drawing cards until all the red 3’s have been collected. Hopefully all four red 3’s will be drawn before you let the bot go out at the end of the hand, even though you’ll end up 200-300 points in the hole. Rinse and repeat each hand, and you’ll get more red 3’s and rank up faster, as long that is your only goal. It will still take a long time, but certainly less time than if you try to actually play the game and win the hand.
Life4Style says
Wish I could say there was an easy way to advance in Canasta, but I don’t. Those red threes do seem to be scarce. When I’ve played I’ve always noticed that the bots seem to always get the bulk of them.
Catherine L says
I have a few tips I use to try and increase my chances of getting the Red 3’s.
1. When setting up the table you have a choice to meld with one or two canasta’s. I always set the table to meld with two canasta to discourage the bots from melding too soon and ending the game with me getting no Red 3’s.
2. I try and leave picking up the pile for as long as possible by throwing out any Black 3’s I have. The Red 3’s will NOT be in the discarded pile. The Black 3’s prevent the next player from picking up the pile.
3. I double browse in a two player game with my husband and let him pick up the discarded pile. You could set up a second account if you wish.. You could also play with a friend who is willing to do this. If you play in a four player game who will have one less bot to worry about.
Other players might think of something else.
Good luck.
RyzandShyn says
The way I know of is to play a 4 player game with a friend.
Set the table for an always frozen pile and two Canastas. This way you can be just about sure all 4 red threes will come out in a round.
When you play you can stand up and then go to the lobby and sit down again in the seat of the robot who is on the team that has the most red threes.
jean123coop says
WOW!! Great canasta tips that I will try today especially about standing up and then back in the seat of the robot with the most red threes!!
Thanks bunches and bunches!

I have a question about something disturbing I saw in a chat room today. Someone said pogo is taking away all our mini items (with the “NEW” Pogo) and giving us a choice of 50 avatars in replacement. Is this true? Does anyone know?

I can’t speak for the Mini items aspect of that, but our badge icons ARE being replaced by a choice of one of 50 avatars as mentioned here: https://blog.pogo.com/pogoannouncement3/

Sorry if I make a short story too long lol
Back in the 90’s, in the era of the floppy disk computers, we had this computer that got infected by a virus. Back then it was not as simple as to buy an antivirus just like we do now, you had to really “knew” how to remove it and most likely you had to find someone to do it.
So we got this guy come home to remove the virus and while he was fixing the computer we talked.
At the time I was very young and pretty….wait that’s another story lol. At the time I was using this program called Works (which I still think was a great program and so easy to use) and I think I was one of the few that used Works instead of Word (Word had startedd to kick in) and so while talking I happened to tall the guy something like “I use Works even tho I should be using Word, everyone seems to be using it now, I don’t know how to use it but it’s a better program”
And then he gave the best advice ever:
“The best program is the one you know how to use”
And it has been the best advice ever because you can apply it to so many things not only computers and computer programs.
Just make it “The best (whatever) is the one you know how to use”
The best machine, the best appliance, the best car, the best game, the best hairdryer, the best tv, etc. is the one you know how to use. What good for is something if you can not even turn it On! lol
And all this regardless of what others use or think is best to use.
And not only that! You can apply the phrase to many aspects of life.
You can make it:
“The best (whatever) is the one you like”
“The best (whatever) is the one that suits you better”
“The best (whatever) is the one that makes you happy”
For instance when someone says the best cooking term for meat is rare or pink, I always think “No, that’s not true, the best term is the one you like” and if you like your steak well done well that’s the best one.
Or when someone tells you the best clothing color for your skin tone is red but you hate red and like blue then the best color for you is blue!
And so on!
Best advice ever! 😀
Catherine L says
I agree nessa. I like my steak well done also. : )

Great topic as I need some advice and help myself with Sweet Tooth Town! On Bakery level 74, the goal is to release the two chocolate bunnies. I’ve cleared the board of all of the obstacles (jelly and cookies/biscuits) and still one of the bunnies remains. I have tried and tried and bought the 5 extra moves several times in one round, only to fail. It would be great to hear how everyone else beat that level, or if I’m actually looking at a technical issue! Thanks for any feedback you have!
Caren says
I was able to pass this level when it first came out. When I’ve gone back to get more stars on levels I had the problem where the bunny is totally cleared but the level doesn’t end so it is an issue. I read, but don’t know if it’s true, that it happens when you combine 2 power ups together. I don’t know if you can’t do it at all or if it is just the move that clears the bunny. So try looking out for that.
Catherine L says
I have a few about life in general.
1. Don’t make decisions when you’re angry. Don’t make promises when you’re happy.
2. Remember you’ll always regret what you didn’t do rather than what you did.
3. Whatever you do – give it 100%
4. Be kind to people; treat people as you would like to be treated.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

A piece of advice that I received as a little girl is, It doesn’t what you do in life just as long as you always do your best.
Kirsten says
My supervisor actually gave me a compliant and I started explaining and her advice was just to say thank you and take it gracefully. That has helped me in realizing that I have something good to show others and really made me feel good.
Another advice is that you should always be nice to people for you don’t know what they have going on in their lives and who knows, you can really make their day. Also do unto others as you would have others do unto you.
This great community and Lura’s website has given me an abundance of advice for tackling those badges you never thought could be done. Also, the QA has given me a chance to help others like others have helped me.
Have a Great Weekend All!
Kirsten says
Oops meant compliment which actually was in compliance 🙂

I have three which I have found true and helpful in my life over time.
1) Sometimes a mantra helps, and I like the advice of the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. The actual translation of what he said is “Out of life’s school of war—what doesn’t kill me, makes me stronger.”
I use the paraphrased version “That which doesn’t kill me makes me stronger”
Using all experiences, joys, and hurts to learn from and move forward with greater happiness and purpose.
2) Advice from my parents, who used it successfully, I’ve used it successfully, and my children have mentioned that they are glad I emphasized it to them:
“Mind over matter” – it’s amazing what you can change when you stop wallowing in the matter and use your mind to fix it.
3) From the Life is Good company:
“Do what you like, like what you do” – so even when there are no options, you have to find something to like about what you have to do and go with it and you also have to engage in things you like to do.
It’s framed MY new Pogo experience where I now just do what I like and like what I do 🙂
Dino says
My dad always told me to pay attention to names, because it’s the only thing we really own – we get our names when we are born, and they stick with us to eternity (with variations, of course, such as when marrying women take on the name of their husband when married). This has stuck with me, to the point that my biggest pet peeve is – see my name in my email?? for Pete’s sake when using it in your reply, take the time to actually use the correct spelling. That’s just me though.
He also told me to always pay for a car completely, whether cash or cheque, when purchasing it, because it would never increase in value through its time, rather, just continue to drain the wallet. This one I have tried to stick to, although these days it’s not so easy.
