Puffin on iOS will be discontinued in October for free users and only “be extended for a while” for paid users. Luckily, you can still use an alternate app to play Pogo’s Flash games on your iPad or iPhone.
The app is Photon Flash Player, and you use it much like you used Puffin, as an alternative web browser on your iOS device.
To use Photon to play Pogo’s Flash games on your iPad or iPhone:
- Download either Photon Flash Player for iPad or Photon Flash Player for iPhone
- Visit Pogo’s web site and sign into your account
- Choose one of Pogo’s Flash games to play (Note: for HTML5 games, it’s still best to use the built-in Safari browser.)
- Click the lightning bolt to enable Flash
- Adjust the settings until the game runs well. Trying different settings for different games will be your key to success with Photon.
- Play!
Unfortunately, Photon Flash Player is not free, and it’s also not a universal app, so you will have to purchase the iPad and iPhone versions separately if you want to use it on both devices.
What if you play on Android? Puffin is still running on Android, but if you want something different or if it’s not compatible with your device, there is a Photon Browser (free) on Amazon and also a Photon Flash Player on Google Play. BadgeHungry has not tested either of these, so your mileage may vary.
Have you used Photon Flash Player on your iPad or iPhone? Share your tips in a comment below, or share which settings worked best for which games for you.

I bought Photon Flash Player for iPad yesterday and tried it for a short while. I clicked on the lightning bolt Flash symbol and played Hog Heaven which was choppy so went to Settings, saw it was set for Video so moved it over to Games. I left the bandwidth where they had it set, I think 4. At one point a game looked rather pixellated so moved the bandwidth up higher but then later moved it back down. I only played a few minutes so I will need more time, there appears to be several different settings as well as different icons to use for the touch screen, I had to change occasionally as it didn’t seem very responsive to taps with my stylus or finger at times.
I’ve played Sol Gardens a bit, it’s a little slow but doable. I don’t think it’s as good as Puffin (which is stilll available for Android products, just not Apple products) but I will use it as a stopgap for Flash games (while they last) when I feel like sitting in my big comfy chair with my iPad instead of at my desk.

I use it all the time on my iPad and love it.

If you’ve been using this for awhile and love it can you give us a few hints as to what settings you use for optimal game playing? Thanks!

i bought this yesterday…but freezes a lot….I feel I have wasted £4.99….I tried all the settings in it but just wont work well….any idea what the settings should be. please?…thanks for any info

Oh no, I definitely don’t want you to feel that way.
Next time I’m at my iPad I’ll look and see what I did to make things better for the games I was playing, and I’ll come back to leave a comment with details.
Also, for what it’s worth, if you can’t get the settings to work for you, Apple will probably refund any purchase you made if the app didn’t work the way you expected it to. I’ve never had a problem with them when asking for a refund from the App Store before.
FEM says
thank you very much Lura….I don’t know how to get a refund but hopefully if I need after your settings post …I will suss it out…thank you for your trouble….FEM

Okay, I’m back! Sorry for the delay, our power went out for a while!
The settings I found best worked with most games *for me* were as follows (and you might have to play around with some of them depending upon what game you’re playing):
Under the gear icon:
Bandwidth 6
Mode: Smooth
Photon Engine: v4
And for the input settings (there are 3 icons that look like a finger, a pointer arrow, and a fist): the fist.
Remember to only play Flash games with this browser (and click the lightning bolt icon before trying to adjust any settings). For HTML5 games just use Safari or your tablet/phone’s built-in browser.
FEM says
thank you very much lura….but I have to say this browser wasn’t worth the money…but all but the fist I had the same settings as you have…..but we will see how it goes…once again thank you very much for your help….Annie

It might just not work well with your device. Definitely look into asking for a refund!

Is there anything that will work with Kindle?

For an unknown reason I still have Free Puffin and can play the flash games.
Maybe they switched me to paid version. I do not want to X out of Pogo and go to
Puffin home page to see if there are ads there. May not be able to get back to
Pogo.

after seeing your comment Prairies I went into puffin to see if I could still play flash games and I can…I checked under the A-Z on pogo and found flash games and tried those…and they worked…so don’t know…and I was thinking to myself if they are getting rid of flash games in Oct….the photon I bought will be useless…but to be honest I find its not good on my apple ipad…might work better on a android I don’t know…anyway c’est la vie its done now…shall keep using puffin for now…I don’t play pogo usually on my ipad…I use my laptop….

I found this on the Puffin website:
“For free Puffin Web Browser users, the service will shut down on October 1, 2019. For paid users of Puffin Web Browser, the service will be extended for a while for you to transition to another solution.
To everyone who used the Puffin Web Browser on iOS: thank you so much. We will keep the project running on Android. If you have enjoyed the experience of using Puffin Web Browser and Puffin Academy, please leave us a comment in the App Store.
Note: Service has been extended to provide a longer transition period.”
So free until October 1. Or you can pay for it and have for a while after October 1. Maybe someone can post the cost in US dollars.

Wow, thanks for this. Puffin indeed did stop working for me on July 1st and I deleted it off my iPad. I reloaded it this morning and it is working. I have 3 dog badges (all Flash) and several Magic badges left and I should be able to get these done by Oct. I play a lot on my desktop but there are many games I prefer doing on my iPad. Thanks again, I’m a happy camper this morning. This plus the fact that I finished the terrible Trizzle (3000 blue dolls) this morning means my day is starting out pretty well. 🙂
