In Mahjong Garden I find the Candy tiles are best for me – but that’s not saying much. It still takes me more than double the time to finish a game than the old MG game did. I’m not sure if the games are set up differently or what – they just don’t go as smoothly as the old MG did. 25 games is a lot to do, when they all take between 5 and 6 minutes each!
Claire Hart will be much easier and quicker — should take about 8-9 games, and I use my old stand-by Christmas episode, which only takes about 5 min. each complete game.
Good luck all and hope you have a great day!
Jan says
I too found the MG much more difficult than the older version. It is taking me many change puzzles in order to get one done.
Wuzzie70 says
I do that too, Jan. I change tiles in the puzzles in order to get it done — I see various matches on one set of tiles that I didn’t see on another set. It’s just not like it used to be!
Cindy Ross says
Glad it is not just me finding it harder
jigsawing says
Oh, so glad I came here right now b/c I found the answer to the question I was going to ask: “Is it just me or are the HD puzzles much harder?” Answer…” read the posts here”. Geez, I even had to use the hint button and this is one of my favorite games that I’ve played a zillion times and I’m (was?) pretty good at it.
Catherine L says
I agree. MG is so much harder now even with the SIMPLE tile set. I am clicking NEW PUZZLE a lot and also clicking the SHOW ALL button. In the older version I flew threw the tiles but not anymore. The game use to be relaxing but all has changed.
HOCATHLE says
They are making them all harder. I think it’s because they want you to buy all the power ups. There are quite a few games now that are impossible to complete without a power up.
Lura says
Some may seem impossible but that’s simply not true. There aren’t even power-ups in Mahjong Garden HD.
Cindy4764 says
I don’t think they made them harder, we’re just not used to them yet. I like the game so I’ve played it maybe more than others and have bought several challenges as well. I’m using the animals which are similar to the ones I use in Safari but in the beginning it was taking me 4-5 minutes on easy. Now that I’ve been playing longer I’m down to mostly 3-4 minutes.
You know how it is when you’re doing a HOG for the first time? It takes a long time to find everything, right? And it takes many times before you can sort of memorize where things are. MG is in some ways new, new look, some are using new tiles and even the ‘old’ tiles aren’t quite the same. My animals are a mix of the red and green animal tiles in Safari so some of them are new to me.
It’ll just take a little time to get used to it, I haven’t played anything but easy but truly they are not any harder. In fact, the rooster is easier I believe.
If you like the game, just keep on playing, it’ll get easier, promise. 🙂
Cher says
MG is harder than the original version. I’m finding both challenges to be slogs!! Can’t wait to finish.
Happy Badge Day and GL to all!
Cher 🙂

I used to play the old MG on medium. The new MG I play on easy and it is still tricky. If you don’t care about the time bonus, you can click “Show All” and it will show all the available matches. 🀄 CHC, I play the very last episode. To me the objects very easy to find, I do have it memorized. 🧙♀️
PaganWench says
I thought MG was harder too. It was easier for me after I enlarged it to full screen. I really wanted to turn down the brightness!
Kathy says
I finished Claire Hart./ click on case . you need complete the episode to get credit…. click on resume do the chapters for the episode you wish do.. i did case 1 and few of the free ones.
Mahjong Garden will take awhile… i also use the candy titles.
MomsBassetHound says
I wasn’t doing much better with the traditional tiles in MG so I switched over to the “simple” tiles. My time is down to 4 to 5 minutes a puzzle, longer than it took on the original MG game, but a lot less than it took when I played the Marathon badge using the traditional tiles last week. Once I get used to them it should be okay, but would really like the traditional tiles from the Flash version of the game!
Happy Badge Day!!

I have a question- for those who have great vision, why is Mahjong Garden gameplay slower, do you think?
I have had much slower times with the new tiles added, which I didn’t expect.
I asked my husband, who can see perfectly, and plays games faster than I do, to complete one animal and his time was in the 4:40 time range.
Did they make the game harder somehow?
It’s harder for me because I don’t think the tiles are as clear and crisp as they should be, or could be, but I don’t believe this is a changeable situation.
It really makes me sad, because MG was one of my “relaxation games” until they changed it to HTML.
I can finish the puzzles but it’s difficult, and they removed the right-click ” undo” function as well, making an undo move longer to complete.
Drake is a cute little dude, though. 😉
Cindy4764 says
I really don’t think they are harder, I think all of us have simply not gotten used to the tiles yet. I’m using animal tiles which I also use in Safari but they are a mix of red and green from Safari so I’m just not used to them yet. I have cut my time down from 4-5 minutes to 3-4 on easy for most of the puzzles.
As for the clock, I wouldn’t worry at all about the clock or the time unless you’re trying to get lots of points. One of the badges I’m doing is getting the time bonus but I don’t think I’ve ever played a game where I haven’t gotten the time bonus. This morning I was playing and got interrupted by a phone call. The game sat there for a bit and by the time I got back and finished it I was up to about 7 minutes I think. I still got a time bonus of 60 points. My advice is don’t even worry about the clock.
Lilly says
PS- After trying all the tiles for hours, I decided the Candy Tile set works best for me, and as I’ve only really completed the 12 animals, not the 12 temple layouts, I stick with them.
If anyone has any hints on how to make this game fun again and not a race against the clock, I’d love to know what you’ve found. l)
Thanks.
MomsBassetHound says
My personal opinion is that it all has to do with the tiles. Once we get used to them our times will go back down.
Suz
Brenda M. says
You don’t have a choice you have to keep the animals layout. I have always used the Temple, but not a choice in this game!! 🙁
tiggerlicious196 says
You can use the temple layout 😉
slabook says
Yes you can change the animal layout to the temple layout. Click on change tile and then click the 2nd tab “select a puzzle set”. There you can choose animal or temple.
MomsBassetHound says
Yes, you do.
When you are in a game click on the tile sets, then click on the tab for puzzles, and it will show you both the animal and the temple puzzle sets.
Suz
aslls says
Actually you can change to the temple set. Choose Tiles, and at the top it says select a puzzle set. Click on that and switch to temple. It works.
Brenda M. says
Thanks, everyone! 🙂
Cindy4764 says
I agree they seem a little harder (rooster a littler easier) but I think it’s probably because we’re simply not quite used to the tiles yet, they haven’t sunk into our brains, lol. I see some folks are still trying out different tiles and switching out so yes, the puzzles will seem a little harder.
I’m using the animal set 1 which appears to be a mixture of the red and the green tiles in Safari. I’m still getting used to them as there are a lot of brown tiles and 2 or 3 pink ones. I think it’ll take my brain awhile.
I have to chuckle though about the complaints for 25 games in MG. I’m also doing a 50 game (time bonus) challenge at the same time.
Let’s see: Magic Marathon – Daily Sudoku, 40 games, 45 games; Jungle Gin, 15 300 point games; ME, 50 levels, 25 time machines; STT, 130 games, one million points; SG, 85 levels, 100 multiplier levels, 90 2 star levels
And so many more hard to very hard and long challenges. 25 MG games seems like a breeze to me after tackling some of those Magic games. I’ve only done 39 and have one more I hope to finish before the deadline but after that the rest will sit and partly putrefy before I get back to them. 🙂
LR3216 says
I use the candy tiles on MG but also Try to keep it in Summer mode as it doesnt seem to be as glaringly bad on my eyes. Not fond of this change at all.
Brenda M. says
I finished the Wednesday challenge in MGHD. I did not care for the original and I like this one even less, I will play for badges, nothing more!
Have fun, everyone!
Sonja says
I too think it’s just getting used to the tiles. I tried a number of them and settled on “simple” but the game does seem to be more difficult even though I seldom play anymore. Used to play on hard when I was good at it!
And here’s a live and learn lesson — I intended to activate the MG badge from the last marathon. I knew time ran out to complete the marathon and didn’t think that the badge couldn’t be activated once time ran out. So missed out on a freebie that would have matched perfectly with the weekly. Didn’t even occur to me to activate it yesterday. Oh well.
MomsBassetHound says
Unless you activated them the badges did not get added to your M&M Album. Sorry, that you didn’t realize that.
Suz
Sonja says
It didn’t even occur to me! Should have but my loss. Hey, could have had one more badge! 😀
Kirsten says
Finished. Used Chrome and had no problems.
For CH did the first case, find it easiest for me. MG used the simple tiles and played on easy. Worked on the older version every now and then and found this to be in the same time frame to finish each game. Did not switch back and forth so really don’t know how I would like the other tiles. Do like the artwork and the smoothness of the gameplay.
GL ALL!

I am half done with this Mahjong badge and switched from temple to the animals… I found the animals were alot easier to do….. the rooster was easier lol and guess what the pig was the one that give me trouble lol.
Lizz says
I must say, I used the numbers for the MG badge but pretty soon the numbers were looking the same and circles became squares. I also switched to the animals and was that great. I finished in no time.
LR3216 says
Actually the mode i use is the one it starts with so i am sure its Spring rather than summer. A bit easier on the eyes. i do use the candy tiles.
rob says
wow…2 long challenges in the last week of a monster magic marathon (insanely long challenges)…I may just wait to do these as personals, as I am barely over half done the magic, with a week or less to do the magic. I did find the candy tiles the easiest when i did the other marathon. It’s summer time…I wouldn’t mind a vacation from the marathons.
