A Way With Words (thumbnail)A Way With Words is now available to play! In this word game you’ll be playing a reverse word search: you don’t find words, you create them – forwards and backwards, vertically, horizontally and diagonally – all while using only one letter.

A Way With Words has 60 ranks and 6 rank badges that you can earn as you play (at ranks 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60), as well as 6 in-game achievement badges for completing challenges. Check out all of the badges on the A Way With Words ranks page.

  1. i play a game and also once the power ups are gone(on the right side of game) you have purchase more power ups…

  3. Played in challenge mode to get the first 10 level badge. Did not take too long. Like word games so will be visiting this from time to time.

    • I too earned the “10” Ways With Words” badge. I’m not very good at word games but what really helped me was I often created words that I didn’t know were words.

  5. Hearing quite a bit of reports about no sound… Have checked all settings, all fine but no sound… Anyone else?

  6. Game mode confused me – it kept ending and I don’t know why.
    I go the 10 badge in Challenge mode, so I guess I understood what to do there.
    I like most word games that have been on Pogo (actually all except Word Whomp) so I was happy to give it a try. I look forward to becoming comfortable with it.

        I kept seeing some number – maybe 77 or 72 – and the words “letters left”, so I thought maybe it was ending because there weren’t any other words I could make, but that didn’t seem to b eit either.
        How cool would it be to be able to use 70-something letters in 12 moves?

        • There is a pool of letters available that is that large. Each time you play a letter, one of the letters from pool is taken out.

          I am assuming that’s where the letters that you use powerups come from as well, though I haven’t used any of them yet.

            I guess my (obvious) confusion is this – why would you need such a big pool of letters in Game Mode if the game ends after you make 12 moves?
            I “get” Challenge Mode, and will stick to that when (and if) I play. I’m sure that as time goes on, Game Mode will become more understandable to me. 🙂

  7. I like word games but this one I’m not sure about yet. I played in game mode I ‘m guessing u have to play in challenge mode to move up in ranks? Another game with the option to buy power ups, and of course my response is no thanks. Don’t buy any unless on a timer for ME and that is only if I played the clock too many times. I really wish they would change the chat options so we could talk to people. Too me that is what made pogo enjoyable

    • I also have no sound in my game, anyone else having that issue? I use chrome (sound works fine in all the other html ones)

    • Congratulations for making it that far. I am on #33 and can’t get past it! Any suggestions?

      I like the came and yes it is addictive. I just keep trying that level, and just can’t get through it.

      • It took me several tries to get through that level too. Once you get past 37 it gets easier.

  11. I like the game. Played up to Level 10 in the Challenge mode and stopped. Like Quinn’s Aquarium, the levels get harder as you move up, so I will save it for badges.

    I know Challenge mode is for Club only. But badges are for Club only. So I can see Pogo putting out badges for the Challenge Mode.

    I’ll keep my thoughts there, but I just checked and unlike Quinn you CAN replay the lower Challenge levels.

  12. I played one game, and as one who loves word games not in love. Maybe I don’t have the hang of it yet and didn’t do challenge mode. It’s kind of clever and a vast improvement over the recently added games, but that is a low bar indeed! 😀

    Won’t play again until it’s a weekly. Lol, I can learn how to play then because we know it will be another slog.

  13. I find myself liking this game and I am not a good speller but have made it to level 12 in just a short time

    I am sure it will get harder and harder but for now I like it…

  14. I completed 7 levels in no time. These 7 levels seemed quite easy but guess levels will become harder and harder until we reach that point where there’s only 2 options left, play same level a million times or use/buy power ups of course. (just in case: yes, I know we don’t have to buy power ups, yes I know is a choice, yes I know is possible to complete all levels w/o using power ups…etc.)
    Anyway way, 7 levels only and never been so bored playing a Pogo game.
    Easy, hard, different, challenging, whatever, doesn’t matter! IMO game is super Boring!!!

    • So so so so so.. AGREE!
      The game is really boring.
      It was a mobile game though so could be why it doesn’t translate well to our eyes. Mobile games are usually pretty simplistic, which we do see here. As stated above it doesn’t translate well.

      Hopefully we see much more interactive word games (most from the past) come down the line (QWERTY HTML5, Word Whomp Whackdown (after word whomp) would be cool, Word Craft HTML5, Hangman Hijinx HTML5, Wordjong HTML5. )

  15. It is more fun to play in challenge mode for me. the game is a little simplistic, especially since you can only play one letter a turn. And of course, there are the ever-present, pay-to-play power ups, which I will ignore.

    This site used to be a game players delight. Now it is a different animal, pushing people to spend money at every turn. Plus an annual fee. Tsk

  16. I couldn’t play the game on Chrome because it didn’t show the tile tray, and the letters on the board weren’t set in the holes like they should be. When I went to the Forums, I found that other players were experiencing the same problem. I had to resort to IE to play the came.
    This may be the case foe all the HTML games because they are too sluggish on Chrome. I played both modes, and I guess I prefer the Challenge mode.

    I played until I reached rank 10 and earned that badge. Just like in Scrabble I got the q, J, x, z almost every game I played. I much prefer Word Whomp, and Boggle over this game. Unless I’m mistaken, it seemed like some of the words I was given credit for weren’t real words. It seemed like it plays like Word Jong and Tumble Bees, when you use a blank, the program puts in any letter. I’ll have to go back to verify my suspicions. But as long as I get credit for tem I’ll take it. LOL

    I like word games, but it looks like this game will be Wed. Badge game only.

  17. I played up to the first badge, but I don’t really get it yet. I did not enjoy it and I love word games. I try a bit more, but my first impression was, Yuck.

  18. with all the new games pogo is coming out with that require you to “buy” power ups or play the same round over and over, in my humble opinion, pogo is doing everything possible to turn loyal players who have been with them for years to seek other game sites. I’ve been a pogo member for over 15 years, and this player has no intention of renewing . I too miss the chat while playing in all the new games. As another player said, being able to chat while playing is what made pogo great. I for one made a lot of friends online while chatting. I’ve also had the pleasure of meeting many of the pogo players. One friend and I talked at least 4 times a week until she passed.. She is from CA and we were like sisters.
    Shame on Pogo for putting a stop to making such great friendships and playing great games at the same time.

    • I’ve never been one to chat often but its a shame the way its become. Between not having it there (was helpful at times) and wanting money for power ups for everything after we pay to have a membership I know I am another done when my time comes.

      Which btw, a player I know said they didn’t even warn him about charging for another year before they did it about 2 months in advance of his membership renewal. I hope it was just an error but the way things have ended up I also can see them trying to sneak in the membership renewals when they know many are not happy with the changes made and how these games are turning out…along with the up charges left and right.

      This game is one of the few new ones or changed over ones that works with no issues for me. I was able to play it on Chrome without problems. Only complaint is that I will have to shrink the size on the screen so I don’t have to keep enlarging the window to see the whole board or just keep to enlarging it. I will say that I do like this one better out of the other word games but its not something I can play all the time.

      • You must remove every trace of a payment option or they will auto renew no matter what.

        • I did not have to remove my payment information to cancel my membership. You are given a choice when you click cancel my account of ending your pogo right then or at the end of the pay period.

          • If that’s a risk you are willing to take, that’s fine. But removing payment info is the first thing that anyone should do before cancelling their account. Why leave it there and take a chance?

  19. Played it don’t like it which is rare for me as I love all word games except this one lol … won’t bother doing it unless it’s a challenge. Good luck to those of you who enjoy this game.

  20. I have the same problem as Life4 Style has with not seeing bottom om screen and letter way big and not set correct. BUT II have the problem only in IE> it plays well in Firefox and chrome. I’ve Used ccleaner, glary utilities and deleted files in IE11 itself and rebooted computer, but problem still exists. Any suggestions. My zoom is correct at 100. Thank You

  21. how is the ranking system work in this game ?

    I finished all the challenge modes and am only at rank 2

      I was just about to ask the same “rank” question. I just completed all of the Challege modes and I’m only at rank #3. It appears ranking up is going to take alot of playing. BTW, WTG in re completing the Challenge mode.

        if I am understanding this correctly
        it is probably
        earning so many points in each game played
        but, if anyone else knows exactly I sure hope they post

        • Thank you! I started doing exactly what you posted and I reached rank #4. When I saw how many points it would take to reach rank #5, I decided I will go back to playing the Challenge mode because alot more points can be earned. Once I ever reach rank #10, that’ll probably be the only rank badge I earn.

          • lol, I’m still at rank 4 also, rank 10 is waaaaaaaaaaaay off for me too

            I’m wondering when the other “challenge” levels will be coming & if they will also have “in game badges”

            now that I see you earn more rank points in some of the challenge level’s (thank you for mentioning it) I’ll go back to see which level has a point goal, but for right now I have a pizza in the oven waiting for me!

          • I’m just starting the 3rd M&M Badge and I haven’t even made it to rank 1, and I’m challenge level 19.

          • challenge , level 40 requires 180 points …. got rank 5 in about 6 games (but I don’t know how much I had from rank 4 …forgot to look)
            I met the 180 point goal + , the most I got was 214 points

            try to make at least 3 words with each letter placed
            try to match the same color in a word
            look at your three letters below before you place the first letter because you might have two of the same color . the longer words give more points , the same color gives more points

            cap
            cape
            capes
            also gives, you, ape and apes
            and depending where the letters are in the grid
            it gives
            pea – peas – pec sec

            If anyone has any more tips on how to earn the most rank point’s in a game please post Thanks !!!

            *some of the challenge levels require a set amount of words made in a set amount of moves…so use the above tip to make the most words you can with each letter placed

        • I am rank 30 now and there are many more levels (locked) to go before I finish all the challenges. (levels) So I am confused when you say you finished all the challenge modes?

            Take a look at your badges earned and see if any of them makes reference to “rank”. The “6” In Game badges I’ve earned all have the following title –

            “10, 20, 25, 30, 35 & 40″ Ways With Words badges”. These are not “rank” badges. However if you do have rank badges, WTG!

          • On the Pogo’s “find a badge” page it shows badges with letters coming out of a black bag that are for 10,20,etc Challenges. The badges shown for the Ranks 10,20, etc look the same except the letters are not coming out of a bag. How confusing is that???

  22. Word games are my favorite, but still a little iffy about this one. I have made it through 33 levels so far, but rank progress seems really slow. I did buy the three badges for this game which is rare for me since I usually wait for a sale. I’m guessing that soon I will get stuck on a level as they get harder and I’ll just be stuck since I don’t want to buy power ups for a word game.

    • I am exactly where you are — rank 33, and I am also going to stop right there. Will not buy PUs, and for sure we’re going to need them from here on in.

      • Aha! Got it! “In games” and “ranks” ……..just a tad difference. lol Good, I’ll go back and work on “ranks” b/c I’m through with “In games”.

  23. I’ve finished the 3 M&M Badges, and received 3 of the 6 in game awards. But I stopped after completing challenge level 25. It’s not something that I’ll play unless there’s a badge to do.

    The game is okay, but not on the same level as Word Whomp.

    And honestly, do we really need power ups in a word game?

  25. I finished all 40 levels of the challenge mode but only on Rank 3/60. I got the in game badges for the challenge levels 10, 20,25,30,35,and 40 I notice there are 3 screens being used as the same letters show up each time. I did the best when I would work the one where I could spell – becomegash (become, omegas, gash) across the whole line . There is another screen that I would use the B and T to spell Boa and Boat both ways. Just sharing my tips. I guess the other challenge boards will open later? Until then I will have to replay to move up to the Rank badges. Just my 2 cents worth. Enjoy!

  27. I detest word games because I really am not good at them but I do like this game- I finished all challenge levels yesterday and can’t wait for more! I was trying to work on a mix and match badge but found myself going away from it a few times to play this and said heck with it, stuck to it until I finished I liked it that much

  28. Finally, with a lot of boredom, made it to the first game award badge for level 10 completion.
    I will say the game is “okay” now to me. It is still very boring but in small doses it’s not as bad as first perceived.
    It will definitely remain a weekly badge only game.

  29. I see to get to rank 1 you need 800 of something….what is something?? Words, letters or something else?

  31. I love the game, and have finished the first challenge. Does anybody know when the next challenge will be available? I’ve been looking every day, and so far there isn’t one.
