In a blog post today, Pogo has announced that they’re “keeping the good times going from now on, so all token Mini items will be free.” This is in response to positive feedback on the recent Mini Mall releases that have had free token items. This will begin with this Thursday’s release of patriotic Minis for Independence Day which will include token Mini items for the low price of 0 tokens! Pogo additionally writes, “There will still be fancy premium Gem-priced items to buy, but now there will always be free items in the mix, too.”
Update 8/14: all items that were previously available for tokens are now correctly marked as free.
What do you think of all token Mini items being free? Share your thoughts in a comment below.
Thanks to Kathy for sending in the news!

wow this is great!!!! Thank you so very much! Blessings to all

Sadly too little too late – I have been with pogo since the beginning and I am extremely disappointed in what it has become.
renee says
I totally agree, as do many, many other members. Just another ruse to get more money – gems only mini items?
gudrun says
I will agree. I enjoy earning tokens and using them. Lately they have been changing more and more games to where they do not pay tokens. That takes away a lot of the reason for playing those games.
I’m thinking maybe free mini items are another step in the direction of no more tokens and eventually no more minis.
MomsBassetHound says
Minis aren’t going anywhere. They are still a big source of income for Pogo.
Suz
brennashideout says
I agree. When my subscription auto pay comes up at the end of August I will be leaving Pogo for good. Since EA took over it’s all about the money. My husband and I decided we can find better ways to spend our time and money.( What with yearly fee and what we were spending on gems for premium items and games we were spending about $1,200 a year)
MomsBassetHound says
Just an FYI…EA purchased Pogo in 2001, 2 years before there was a Club Pogo.
Suz
MomsBassetHound says
I think it’s just an attempt to pacify those of us that are complaining about not earning tokens in the new games.
Suz
okladyplayer says
yes, they are trying to appease the “little people”, they know we are tired of lots of things. Sometime I don’t want to play anything. π
mspatmac says
I totally agree. I am playing less and less Pogo and not missing it.
MomsBassetHound says
I actually did something else for part of yesterday, and I had badges to work on. But I just had no interest.
Suz
mspatmac says
OMG, really??? When hard core players like us feel this way there is widespread discontent..
MT says
And it is this discontent that will be the ending of what was once a wonderful, enjoyment filled game site.
CCSunshine88 says
I feel the same way Moms~Not a lot of interest since Pogo is changing so much !!
Gina PB says
Me too, I have actually started going back to play the Java games with a whole new appreciation. The spinner is there the sounds & music are the old ones & it is just plain simple fun instead of repetition and frustration. I no longer feel compelled to complete the new badges & weeklies like I did back then since most times they are all the same games π
I wish that all our concerns meant as much to the Powers that Be as a few comments about free things. If we fall out of love with the games and badges all the free tchotchkes in the world won’t make us want to play games that aren’t enjoyable.
krumi54 says
I agree this! I have a lot off Albums and they change more and more games. They dont credit me the badges for the old games! And I’m also don’t like the new games. It was a nice time to play and chat with the other players, because the chat was nearly the game.
Pattypooh666 says
Yah think Suz LOL.
AzBrendaH says
That was exactly my first thought too, Suz.
Since we don’t get tokens in many games now
they should be “free” – regardless of whether we want the item or not π
SAL says
If none of the games give tokens, there won’t be any tokens to buy anything with. I think pogo just ending tokens same way ending Java and Flash. New members will like new Pogo because they won’t have anything to compare with. Old members will like new things or leave.
linda vitai says
I agree with you Suz…wish they would go back to games that we didn’t need to buy things to help us win smh
dice-man-dan says
Not complaining any more: I’m done with Pogo when my paid membership expires! There is nothing Pogo can do for me any more anyway. As SAL said, old members will like new things or leave, as I will!
butterfliesRfree says
Free token items really don’t mean that much to me. – I like shopping and spending my millions of “worthless” tokens in the mini mall. I’m sure before long the mini mall will mainly be gem items and tokens will just fade away.
My time on Pogo is becoming less, mainly because there are fewer and fewer games I really enjoy. Since word games are my thing, I find my myself playing different word apps on my Ipad. I understand that power ups are a money maker, but it’s not for me.
I just don’t get why Pogo doesn’t understand that tokens and jackpot spinners are part of what drew in many people the the site in the first place.
Cissy says
I am also with all of you. Giving token items for free, wow, that means no more tokens on POGO. I really liked the idea of amassing tokens, but now with the tokens going away and that jackpot spinner gone, where’s the fun. I too have been going elsewhere playing games, and not missing POGO. When Trivial goes I think that will be it for me too. Also it’s just not fun anymore….chat rooms are mum…I remember back in the day when conversations would have us on the floor laughing…now its nothing…maybe just me but I miss the way it use to be.
jigsawing says
None of us know for sure just what problems Pogo has in trying to keep the token layout in the new games, but I’m positive they did not cease token awards just to thwart us. I see this “mea culpa” as a GENUINE step in acknowledging our discontent with the change, and I wholeheartedly appreciate their caring and their response. Thank you, Pogo.
MomsBassetHound says
They had no problem in doing it with 7 of the HTML games.

HOCK9952 says
Pogo could definitely program things better or differently if they really wanted to.
It seems as if tokens are considered passe in Pogo’s new direction. Sad.
hockeygirl57 says
I could be wrong, but I think token/free items will become the minority and gem items will become the majority. I think this change will happen slowly so it won’t be so obvious. This definitely seems like an appeasement. I hate to sound so negative and hope I am wrong, but I’ve lost all faith in Pogo.
MomsBassetHound says
I think you are correct. They aren’t going to waste the time of the artists on something that doesn’t make them any money. It’s the same with the M&M completion badges. They would rather design a badge that will bring in money.
Suz
Cher says
Hockeygirl…..I couldn’t agree more. The token items are getting less and less. They have been so ugly too. I don’t think anybody would even spend their worthless tokens on them anyway. Oh well, nothing we can do!!
Cher
SAL says
Probably items that have already been created will be free until they run out.
HOCK9952 says
Yes, clearance sale on token items at 100% discount. LOL
droagie says
I have bought all items in the mini mall for over a decade now, and I have to agree with the majority on this one….I think we will now only be offered re-colored items that were previously available and gem items only. As a club member, what is my incentive now for maintaining the vast amount of mini items, and what will happen to “members only” items that were available to us in the past. Will these just be gem items made available to us now? I really don’t mind spending the gems, but what advantage is it now being a club member?
I’ve never really complained about things on Pogo before, and kind of played the cards I was dealt on there, but I’ve now removed all payment options and will now move on as a non-paying member, as the benefits don’t really constitute me paying money for most things that can be played or gotten with no membership at all. I’ve been a regular poster on the forums for over a decade, and now that has even stopped, and I no longer feel the need to be a part of those forums much any more. It really is a shame, but I guess the only constant on game sites and their forums is change.
Have a great day all.
Brenda M. says
Please don’throw rocks at me :), but I like the gem items much better than the token items anyway,! If they are free, I’ll get them, but the gem items are so much more appealing to me. π
mighty1terri says
I agree with you but feel they need to come out with new stuff instead of bringing back the old!
Sugarbarre1 says
i long for the old
as i dont have em
and i want em
but this is just so silly?
no tokens to pay…geez
the gem ones are better
im gobsmacked
hehehehe57 says
It’s better than nothing. I don’t spend many tokens on the mini mall because it’s mostly ugly crap but if it’s free I will take it. Changing my mini is something I rarely do.
player08628 says
Oh NOOOO. If mini mall items are going to be free, there goes the very last thing that we can spend our millions of tokens on. What in the world are we supposed to use them for? (I can’t believe I ended my sentences with prepositions – just shows to go you how perplexed I am!)
MomsBassetHound says
No, you can always spend them on the expressions in the gift shop. That’s where I spend the most actually. And since the new games don’t award tokens you really won’t have much to worry about.
Suz
Pattypooh666 says
Wonder if this means they are going up a lot in Gem mini items. I am thinking maybe. I’ve been told you never get anything free without sacrificing something.
JayArvee says
Well there goes one reason for keeping my second account. I was using it to gift the token mini items to my main account. Pogo is dashing my hopes of reaching 100 million tokens with these new token-less games. π
Maybe Pogo Llama read the recent Weekend Open Thread that asked “Do you get the free mini token items?”
nessa says
I see it the other way around lol
I think Lura knew this was comming and so she wanted to know how we feel about free stuff.
Or maybe llama asked Lura for some info about how we feel about free items and so Luras askd us.
Lura says
It was neither of those things, just a coincidence. If I knew something was coming Iβd definitely tell you, and Pogo_Llama has never asked me for information or to do anything.
JayArvee says
BH’ers send in the Weekend Open Thread topics. Lura just picks one that might be of interest to us. Totally coincidental. I was just being sarcastic about Llama reading it. Llama doesn’t care what us BH’ers think.
HOCK9952 says
Plus. asking Lura would be much too logical. And, as we all know, Pogo ain’t logical! LOL
tiggerlicious196 says
I see this as oh cool, free mini items, however I also see it as uh ok, so WHERE do we spend our tokens then and HOW will we earn tokens now? This so called awesome new thing for tokens has been said for a while now and yes I know we can buy expressions, though I never buy any and never have had an inclination to do so…Seems to me they are trying to fade out tokens altogether unless they do end up making this token thing which I don’t see happening
RyzandShyn says
I find it scary, like 1984 or Oceans 11 or The Sting.
Jay says
I expect this is part of the process of eventually removing tokens from the site. It’s a nice gesture, though these items cost time rather than money to buy.
I don’t know what the future holds for the site. With a much smaller membership, I wouldn’t be surprised if prizes would eventually go away. Wasn’t the prize budget nerfed around the time they changed entry method on raffles? I think if they were interested in having an HQ copycat quiz app to gain members they would’ve already done it.
Dino says
The first thing that popped into my mind was “aha, now we can’t complain about not getting tokens because there is less and less to spend them on anyway”… as for the expressions, mark my words, they are next!
Didn’t we used to be able to get a free birthday token mini item once a year, with a password? How will they replace that, I wonder.
MomsBassetHound says
Yes, there is a code for the birthday item. This year it’s BDAY18
Suz
Dino says
My point being… the free item is always the one purchased with tokens, when they are all free, what will Pogo offer to the birthday boys and girls?
MomsBassetHound says
Considering they are giving it all for free I don’t see the necessity of giving something else.
Suz
nessa says
Sounds a bad thing to me.
I wish I was as optimistic as you are.
Besides I don’t believe in anything llama says anymore or rather, I dont believe in all the good news she gives us because they all end up lies and bad news
Sounds like this to me:
From now on we will only have gem items and re-released token items but these will be free!!! Why? Because soon there will be no tokens at all, your tokens will be replaced by the “new system in the works that will allow you to engage with Pogo in new and meaningful ways”
Also understand that we can no longer waste time creating new token mini items that mean no income for us. “New” itens will be only gems
cortnum says
I am all for anything that is free. But , I also think of the adage which states ” The free drink may be the most expensive you ever get. ” Pogo has been moving and continues to move to anything that will brings in extra revenue . Okay , its a business , but we do pay an annual fee.
I see fewer and cheaper of the nice mini mall items from the token/no token category. That is sad because I gifted many of the token items , where I won’t gift gem items.
I just wish Pogo would get their act together as far as game working management , I am one of those that gets the black screen with music on Quinn’s , I don’t mind really, who needs the silly game , I’m only an annual subscriber.
Tom says
This is likely the beginning of the end of tokens…
When flash and java bite the dust, the few html games that give tokens will probably not, and then who knows…. ???
HOCK9952 says
Yes, Tom, you’re right. Tokens are now becoming fleeting & fading …….dust in the wind ……..
MomsBassetHound says
I wonder what they are going to do with re-released mini items?
Suz
Lura says
Change all of the token prices to free?
MomsBassetHound says
That wouldn’t be fair to those members that paid those huge prices in the beginning. That’s why I don’t have a lot of them, couldn’t afford them back then.
Suz
Lura says
Well you’ll be able to afford them when they’re free!
Sorry to joke, it’s my coping mechanism. I don’t think that Pogo is concerned with ‘fair’, especially to older members and with the auto-awarding of premium badges and all of the recent changes.
MomsBassetHound says
They even awarded all the Crossword Cove weekly badges on May 25th. I don’t know if it was a mistake or not, but it happened.
Suz
Jan says
I submitted that question to Llama so we will see if she responds with an answer.
MomsBassetHound says
I did too…lol
Suz
HOCK9952 says
Moms, did you really say Pogo & fair in the same sentence? LOL
Kirsten says
Hmm free mini items. Free is good but in this case one has to wonder what is next to come down the ” Pogo New n Improved” pike. . See this as a ploy to keep us content and not engage in any negativity towards their path in our enjoyment. This new path is definitely not sitting well with me or with so many other members that are going to cancel or not renew their membership.
Gems you say, Wouldn’t it be nice if they turned all of our tokens into gems :). We did in fact earn them; and, if this is the route they are taking, then we can at least get to use them.
Since working on older Wednesday challenges, haven’t played many of the newer games and don’t see a need other than for badges. The older versions were much more interesting and kept me going and yes I too like my tokens!
My motto when I first stumbled upon Pogo was to play games I enjoyed, have fun, meet new friends, and challenge myself using my token count as incentive. This has not changed by my Pogo attitude has. It saddens me this cite is not taking their members into consideration and not posting their constructive comments in helping them create a much happier and fun gaming cite.
llinda871 says
Ok, well then. Now it’s time to plan what I will be doing with all the free time I will now have with no Pogo to play – lol.
Lets see, walking, yes I haven’t been walking for a loooong time, and the weather is just starting to get nice – good, I’ve wanted to lose some of my winter weight. Thanks Pogo for giving me that extra push I needed.
And reading – yep there are lots of new books that I just haven’t had time for – and I can listen to them while I’m walking. Ok, good. Thanks Pogo for helping me get back to making my mind work again.
How about that closet I’ve been meaning to get to for about, uhm, lets see, 12 years now. Will finally have the time to see what’s been lurking in there all this time. Thanks Pogo.
And just think, what can I spend that $40.00 a year on? Plus the money I’ve spent on gems just so I can get to the gold in Phlinx II. I keep telling myself that I don’t neeeeed that gold badge and really can’t afford the gems, but I’ll just buy the small pack and make it last till I get the gold. Thanks Pogo.
Just sitting here wondering what my life was like BP (before Pogo). I had lunch with real people, answered and returned phone calls more, made phone calls to friends, was not such a procrastinator about so many things and Wednesdays were not reserved for the “new badges.” Thanks Pogo.
Last year, as renewing Club Pogo was looming, I really went back and forth about spending the money – quite fearful of “what would I do with my time without Pogo” and other thoughts going through my head – I can always reup if I really miss Pogo – but will I be starting over again or will I just slip back in with all my badges earned, etc., etc. So, against my better judgement decided to reup for one more year. Now the decision has been made for me by Pogo. I don’t want to be around to see the way Pogo is changing. Thanks Pogo.
I think I’m okay with the direction Pogo is going, because it’s like a mother bird pushing her grown babies out of the nest. It’s time to fly. Thanks Pogo.
mspatmac says
Well said Linda! I can relate and I’m sure others can too.
Jean says
I agree
HOCK9952 says
llinda871, you mean you’ll be getting your life back.
The pressing question of the day is ~~~ “Is there life after Pogo?” LOL
Snuggles says
Hello, I was doing a Wednesday Challenge in Swashbucks after getting the amount of Jackpot spins but no credit. So I thought probably a higher level was needed nope tired all three levels nothing. Went to forum Thinking I was doing something wrong only to be told by a moderator I had to get in contact with CS to have them award me badge cause there is a known problem with the game. Did what she called CS only to be told the moderator was wrong nothing is wrong with the game to restart browser and try again . So being the smart I asked him to hold on restarted(mind you I had tired the restart already but did it again) and started playing the game nothing was awarded as I had told him it wasn’t doing only to be told he would let the higher people know about problem and if they deem it they’ll reward the badge. Like how much this site has changed before contacting CS they would see the problem and award the badge. So I guess if the games are older and not working they don’t care . I pay enough for a membership and refuse to pay for power ups to get though a game! So many of these NEW and IMPROVED games are not what signed up for having to pay to get though . What happened to the POGO where is was fun earning badges and winning tokens (that didn’t mean much but heck I won them! ) Now it’s a chore to common and try and win a badge oh wait no it’s not just pay for power ups and boom you’ve done it!! I am not a fan of these new games or the way this site is going ! Sad indeed!
MomsBassetHound says
When you go to customer service you need to point them to the known issues section on Pogo. There is actually an entry there that states that customer service is to award the badge as long as it’s activated.
Good Luck!!
Suz
hockeygirl57 says
Why doesn’t Pogo just automatically award this badge since they know it can’t be earned? Why make us go through so many hoops? They can auto award badges, so why not this one?
I know you don’t have the answer but felt the need to vent. π
Snuggles says
Hi Suz,
If I don’t hear from anyone I will call them once again and tell them to look at the known issue section. I forgot to add in my post they hung up on me when I asked to talk to a supervisor. lol Like that made things go away I called right back and again told the CS person to just give me a supervisor he is the one who told me I needed to wait to see if I get credit for the badge. I’m afraid to start any of the weds challenges now. I am getting very sorry I paid my membership for an other year and bought more gems π
tiggerlicious196 says
Be aware the only way to talk to someone on the phone from Pogo is the call back feature so I hope you didn’t actually find a scam number
James says
That game is listed as not awarding when you go to report problem.
mary1313_ says
Maybe make sure that everyone gets their free BDAY18 token gift before you can’t. If token items are going to be free, then I am guessing no more free BD’s?
virginia says
Now watch all the good stuff be gems only and free ones will be of minimal quality and fewer of them.
virginia says
My goal this year is to rank out ( now at 190 ) in Poppit Bingo before my renewal comes up in July. I’m working hard on that and then I’m done with Pogo.
sighco9999 says
Lets see now they are going to make all token items free this along with the 4 generic badges for the game of the month shows that pogo doesn’t care about what the players want. They figure throw out some freebies and everyone will be happy. I have been a club pogo member for over 14 years and unless pogo goes back to what it was i will not make it to 15. I refuse to play any of the new games that don’t have tokens. When they put tokens in the first HTML games it proved they could do it so no excuse. I find myself playing less and less on this site now just wish I would have known they were going to go in this direction before I bought gems. Guess I will be using them on MNM badges I won’t buy badge magic badges if they have any games that don’t award token for game play.
Cindy says
It’s Pogo’s way of easing into eliminating tokens period. They want to get rid of them and this is just more testing of the waters………
Brooke Showalter says
So what will we even use tokens for then?
Krazichic says
I asked the Blog last week if the membership fee was going up after all their changes and Llama said not at this time…hmm, sounds suspicious to me. As far as free mini items, I have friends I can gift but most of the stuff isn’t worth putting on. I can spend my tokens in Java slot games, the gambler I am, lol, doubt I’ll reach a rank or badge for it though. I refuse to buy anymore gems, and may have to quit Pogo for good : (
Rilae says
I’d be willing to pay a few more bucks if the service had remained the same. I.E. not hounded to buy power ups every 5 seconds, jackpot spins and tokens remained, etc.
I would not pay more at the rate things are going.
JayArvee says
I’m not a poker player, but what are the poker players going to bet with without tokens. Or are the poker games going to get dumped when Flash and Java go. And the slot games take tokens also.
Sugarbarre1 says
i was just thinking we could play high roller poker
but what do you win
Boo12998 says
This is great, Thank you Pogo!
Kathy says
I just went and used the BDAY18 code. Because it won`t be any good. I have a feeling maybe I`m wrong, but because the tokens now will be completely worthless, wonder if there is a chance that they will turn it into some type of coins. I also removed my billing info. That was hard to do. Took me a few minutes to remove it. I will probably lick my wounds and not auto renew next year. It breaks my heart to see what is going on with pogo. Guess I`ll go back to slingo and play on their site. I did won 50 dollars one day on there. I still have the stub lol.
MomsBassetHound says
They won’t be turned into anything that is worth anything. That I can just about guarantee π
Suz
Kathy says
Yeh you`re right. But I`m done wasting my money . Oh well , another thing to think about our mini`s are made in flash. So when they scrub flash all together, does that mean we`ll be losing everything in the mini`s that are gem items? kinda makes ya wonder how they will pull that off.
MomsBassetHound says
I’m fairly certain that Lura said that they are not Flash. But since there are days that I barely remember my name (LOL) I won’t bet my life on it.
Suz
Kathy says
I didn`t know that , heehee Suz we`ll remember your name sweetie if you can`t lmbo. But I hope she is right that they aren`t flash, lol.
MT says
I remember playing on the Slingo game site when Pogo used to shut down for maintenance on Tuesday. It was fun. I too am checking out new places to play games with saddened feelings.
tukhulkha says
So ALL Mini Mall items (except Gem ones) are going to be free ! great that means i can, as a non Club Pogo player get all the mini items once the domain of the Club Pogo players and it wont cost me a token? thats not bad.
MomsBassetHound says
No, there will still be items that are available to only Club Pogo members.
Suz
BafflingBarnacles says
“They heard from the community”
Sure…
That’s why they constantly do nothing about our wants and suggestions. They post generic answers and continue to go against them.
I will not be renewing come April as of right now until i see change. I am also stopping all premium purchases (even through surveys) until something is done.
They don’t deserve any money even through their silly survey sponsor. π
Rilae says
It’s like our suggestions and feedback go through a scrambler…
jhazeleyes says
I agree with all of you, I think it is Pogo’s way of slowly getting away from tokens and making everything gems.
I hate not being rewarded with tokens at the end of games. π
Rilae says
I find this very odd. First, it takes away the special treat of a mini item being free on occasion.
But that’s minor. As the saying goes, “there’s no such thing as a free lunch.” So I see this instead, as others have pointed out, leading to the dwindling of token items and a focus only on gem items.
People like tokens for various reasons, beyond the use of the mini mall. It’s clearly possible to reward them in the new games so no excuse there. So I see ulterior motives here, under the guise of “look what we’re giving you for ‘free’!” Shiny dangling object to distract…
And we all know what the ulterior motives are…
Evil Queen says
I agree with those saying its a way to try to quiet down those not happy with things right now. Sorry but won’t work. To me it comes off as more of a greedy show on their part by pushing the gem mini items and trying to get people to buy those instead now. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see it flip to free mini items for what was once token but more gem items at some point here then the token/free ones. Unlike how it once was. This just shows though that Pogo doesn’t listen to what is being said and why their paying members are not happy.
barryandlind20 says
I agree 100%. What do we do with our millions of tokens????? I like the old way much better. I find myself reading more than playing on here. Such a shame…..but like it was said….the new players won’t miss anything because they never had what we did.
RyzandShyn says
I’ve read and re-read the Blogs and the News Articles and I just can’t shake the feeling that we’re being scammed, fleeced, led to the slaughter even. It sounds like so much bologna that it’s all being done in response to us and to improve our experience.
I can’t wait to see what their end-game is.
I imagine it will all shake out sometime around/after the new improved sign-in experience takes place.
Until then, I’m going to continue having fun playing what’s left for me to have fun with.
Regina93063 says
I’ll be honest…when I first started with Pogo 15 years ago (I think…maybe longer, ha!) I used to buy EVERYTHING in the Mini Mall. Then came the Gem items…and I bought them, too. However, in the last 3 or 4 years I haven’t even gone into the Mini Mall for months at a time…every once in a great while I will go in and have one of my other accounts gift me some things I don’t have, but I seriously have so much crap (sorry for the word, but that’s about what it really is) in my “closet” that I’d never be able to wear everything if i changed every day for the rest of my life (I’m only 54). Free Mini Mall items doesn’t really interest me. Doesn’t interest me about a much as token-less games don’t interest me. I’m not ready to give up Pogo just yet, but I do think it is the beginning of the end for a vast majority of us. I might not catch the first bus out of Pogoland, but I’m pretty sure I won’t miss that last one!
Alimia says
Pogo will never be the same site we liked and enjoyed so much. Unfortunately changing for worse. I have the feeling its destroying itself. Too bad.
bookreader65 says
i to feel the same way as to most of your comment i to dont play as much cant stand most of the new games and cant believe they are taking away monopoly slots !!!!!!!
Captiva007Pl says
I always heard that “If it sounds too good to be true, it is”. I think that’s the case here. As lots of people said above, there will be nothing worth a crap except he gem items. I’ve watched my tokens grow through the years and it made me proud! I thought I would never get to one million! Now, I have all these tokens and they are good for nothing. I totally agree that this is meant to appease us about not getting tokens in the new games. I don’t like most of the new games anyway.
I really miss the old days, when you could come play your favorite games and win tokens and have a chance at the “Jackpot Prize”. Everything new gives no tokens and has no jackpot spins. I miss the old Pogo. I’ve only been here since ’07 and that is not a long time compared to lots of you. But I still miss the way things were when I discovered Pogo.
I’m not threatening or promising, but I’m saying next time my yearly dues come up I think I will pass. There has to be more gaming sites out there. I’m going to google it and see what I can come up with. I’ll miss Pogo, and as someone said above, I don’t know what I will do with my time. But I have a lot of books that I’ve put off reading so there’s that. I will miss the people I met also. I will miss you BH-ers, you’re such a good bunch! And Lura, for always having everything here. But, I don’t like this, I don’t like it at all. And I know it’s been said but I hate having to buy power-ups to get through a simple game.
Okay, shutting up now. It’s not like I’m leaving right this minute! I guess all we can do is wait and see.

As mobile gaming really began to take off, EA apparently made the foolish decision not to adapt to the new platforms. They made a few token gestures for Facebook and iOS but weren’t will to invest the capital that reworking games would require. This no doubt was exacerbated by the demise of Java and Flash. As I watched the “now playing” count drop from 200,000 or 300,000 to 30,000 to 40,000, I realized that Pogo would not survive unless they severely cut development costs and/or monetized the games. Of course, they did BOTH and we’re now experiencing the consequences of that choice.

A long time ago, in a place far away, Pogo said they were developing a new app for Mobile Mac and Android devices. I guess that idea got swallowed up in a black hole. πΈ

I always buy the badges for Spades even though I ranked out years ago. I didn’t pay attention when I bought the last one then realized it was a rated game. I don’t buy rated games. I’ve tried several times and I gave up with being booted and called names. I called CS and told them what had happened but they wouldn’t award me the badge. I argued with her for several minutes. She kept saying she was sorry but it couldn’t be awarded “at this location”. I asked to speak to her supervisor. She finally gave in, but the supervisor told me the same thing. I asked why couldn’t SHE put me to another “location” for help. She said there was nothing she could do and she was closing my case, and she was gone. It is the only album that will not be finished. I have been losing interest lately with these new games and like today I wasn’t on until I just read here what people were saying. It is 12:45 AM here. I used to be on Pogo several hours a day. I am certainly thinking about this being my last year, as I’ve seen many others here saying the same thing. Pogo may go down if they don’t fix things.
CarsonWyler says
grameeh…I’m in the same boat with the rated Spades badge. Would LOVE to play with you and any others here who’d like to get the badge…and after that, too, because I just love Spades!
I’m CarsonWyler11 on Pogo.

Wow, I don’t feel so alone anymore. When so many BadgeHungry subscribers are so unhappy with POGO,
(and especially Moms!) something is very wrong. I’ve been with Pogo many years and used to love the
excitement of playing a game and trying for the jackpot prize. I used to love the new releases at the Mini Mall and participating in the weekly Hall of Fame events. Pogo has changed so much, and not for the better. Now we’re bombarded with ugly badges for this marathon and that marathon (who wants to spend that much time earning an ugly badge?) and now its pay gems for this opportunity and pay gems for these power-ups. I used to buy a lot of gems, for Mini Mall items and mostly for the Hall of Fame events, and Clue episodes. Not anymore. I refuse to buy power-ups, and what’s the use of Mini Mall items, our closets are so full already, we couldn’t possibly use all that’s in them, so who really cares if token items are free or not. What else would you use your tokens for anyway. And a lot of the badges for Clue and Claire H. are not all that great (unless there’s a cat in them!). So I’m even skipping those. As for the games, there’s so many I don’t like, and I find myself saying I’m getting sick of the long challenges in them. Pogo just isn’t the same happy, friendly, exciting place it used to be. I think someone should save me a seat on that bus!

I have been thinking for awhile that Pogo wants tokens to be a thing of the past. This move while good also makes it look it all more that tokens be gone before long.
Kingkands says
Really, free mini items, gee Pogo why you being so generous. Oh that’s right all your new crappy games don’t give tokens, only points…………………so what’s the point. Not only does your new games not give tokens, but you can’t chat with your friend in them either, and most of them are impossible to win without buying power-ups. I used to love World Class Solitaire and Aces Up, not anymore. Don’t be fooled folks, Pogo is not listening to the Club Members, if they did they wouldn’t be going into the downward spiral they are currently engaged in. The new game of the month is a joke. I have 4 useless badges, that because I don’t care for the game can’t get rid of. Not sure I will be around much longer.
Sharon says
I can’t say I enjoy the direction Pogo is going in. I have never been a big fan of badges, but watching my token count go up was enjoyable for me. I guess by not buying a lot of badges or albums I was part of the problem, after all, Pogo is in the business to make money. That said, I’m sure there are plenty of other game sites out there, but I guess I feel really bad for Lura and BadgeHungry. She has placed a lot of time and effort into her enterprise and turned it into something she should be very proud of, only to be collateral damage of Pogo. Whatever the outcome, thanks for all you have done Lura, you’re a class act.

I also see the light, tokens will be a thing of the past and it is so sad… Giving us free token items is nice but we all see what is behind them giving us the free items… No More Tokens….
I do not play on Pogo as much anymore and can see my time being less and less unless things change around here and I do not see it..
For some time now half my games do not want to load half of the time.. Today for instance Boggle Bash will not load on any of the browsers I tried… Jungle Gin will only load on IE but BB just will not load.. Had no trouble when I played it a month or so ago…
So just not that interested in Pogo any longer…. to many problems….

It reminds me of the mattress commercial:
Pogo_Llama: “We will beat anyone’s price or your Mini is Freeeeeeeee!”
Accountant: “You’re killing me, Llama!”
MomsBassetHound says
Pogo Llama answered my question in the weekly blog and it answers a few things that we have all been speculating about.
1) There will still be Club Pogo exclusive items.
2) Re-released items that cost tokens will now be free.
3) Limited Edition items will not be re-released.
4) Gem items will remain gem items.
Suz
jtsr1155 says
Eventually, all the free mini items will be retired and then only gem items will remain. There’s no reason for Pogo not to keep things the way they are with tokens and chat boxes on the side. They keep ignoring those of us who don’t like it and offering free mini items is not going to pacify the vast majority. They should fix what they broke instead of offering us something that they will eventually take away.
MomsBassetHound says
I don’t agree, and nothing that was written even alludes to that.

This is a very nice gesture, for those who believe tokens are worth more than air. Still, free feels good. I hope the good spirit will begin to include more percentage off sales. I really miss those.

I wholeheartedly (and sadly) agree with the sentiments expressed by my fellow BH-ers. My questions: What happens to the Dailies? What’s the purpose of earning 2,000 tokens daily if their usefulness becomes severely limited? One’s token count reflects one’s POGO “wealth” if you will: the more tokens one has amassed, the more POGO purchasing power one has. For some of us, a high token count is as close to “wealthy” as we will ever get! It’s been personally rewarding to watch my “bankroll” of tokens grow; it’s been fun strategizing on the best ways to get to the next million; it’s been challenging to maintain a healthy balance between the rate of the accumulation of my token “wealth” and my expenditures of that same “wealth” on mini items, Release Day/birthday gifts, POGO Expressions, etc. And now, somebody thinks I’m not going to notice or not feel particularly disenfranchised when a decision is unilaterally made to infringe on my “wealth” and my personal use of it… or when a decision is unilaterally made that I can continue to work as hard as previously to earn badges, but the accumulation of commensurate “wealth” will not follow?? NOT!!
TamiTeneuli says
Yes. agreed. I’ve been member years. First took away our ‘big’ real money prizes ($1000 and $2000) and now our tokens. The very reason I started playing POGO only was the non-messed up games and the money I so desperately needed. (never won). Now tokens… Not leaving much for motives!
Maui says
Went to the mini mall and it is charging me tokens-is there a code?
Also-when I went to delete how I used to pay for pogo (paypal) I cannot delete it. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
MomsBassetHound says
Only items released today are not charging tokens. If it was already in the Mini Mall it hasn’t been changed.

Looks like pogo took down the mini mall, maybe updating it.

It’s not down. I’ve been in and done all my shopping. You just have to go to the categories until the quick links are restored.
Suz
RyzandShyn says
Actually, it’s kind of easier to shop this way for right now.
I went to the categories, clicked on “amount” to sort them, then looked at the items until I hit the token priced items.
That way I knew for sure I had viewed everything new.
Jean says
Well……now that the June 7th release is out with the free token items,
there is no way I can go to “all my items” or find my game or level awards !
whoever was in charge at Pogo forgot to flip-the-switch !
Guess I need to keep checking back π
nessa says
Just hope the missing Quick Links is a glitch and not yet another dumb decision of removing useful options that “they” (who hardly move around the site) think are not useful and don’t care about what “We” the customers think.
Like what they did with the password at checkout.
