Rooms of Memory is a free-to-play Hidden Object Game from Big Fish Games with a wide range of scenes to explore and quests to complete. Alfred, the butler, will guide you through your uncle’s manor as you attempt to uncover its secrets. There are even limited-time quests with special rewards! With a large number of power-ups and modes to play, there’s a lot to learn for a new player, and this article should give you the information you need to get started.
Like other Hidden Object Games, Rooms of Memory is based on the process of searching for a set of items in a given scene. The first twist is that the game zooms in on your mouse, as seen below. There are also a few different types of Hidden Object Scenes involved. The first kind, as shown in the screenshot, gives you a list of items to find. However, other levels will give you silhouettes of those items instead of words. Finally, there are “Night Mode” levels in which the scene is dark, only illuminated by a small torch that tracks your mouse.
There is also a variety of power-ups available for when you get stuck—conserve these so that you have enough when you get to more difficult levels. Power-ups include the Phase Watch, which gives you extra time; the Solar Lamp, which turns on the lights in Night levels; and the Bell, which points to an item you haven’t yet found.
Quick Tips for Getting Started
- Log into Rooms of Memory daily to spin for the jackpot and get daily rewards.
- Play in fullscreen mode! Click the four-arrows icon in the upper right corner. To return to windowed mode, use either Esc or click the icon again.
- Click on the “Premium Account VIP” link under your profile picture. You’ll want to keep your account as “Premium” as often as you can. This will give you 30% to Experience and Gold, plus reduced energy recharge time and 25% discounts on Crystals and Gold.
- Add some friends (see the bottom of this article for more) for daily visiting rewards and sending/receiving gifts.
- If you’re ever feeling overwhelmed or lost, just work on the quests that are on the left side of your screen.
Energy and Quests
To play a Scene in Rooms of Memory, you need Energy, which is shown in the green bar at the top of the screen. Energy regenerates over time and is refilled when you level up. The timer directly below your Energy level counts down the minutes until you earn more Energy. Additionally, your total energy increases to max each time you gain a level, allowing you to play more Scenes before you need to wait.
Quests are shown on the sides of the screen—the left side displays regular quests, and the right side shows online quests, which give unique rewards and are only available for a short amount of time. Completing quests is important for making progress because it is the quickest way to level up. If you’re ever not sure what to do next, click on a quest to be pointed in the right direction.
Currency and Items
There are two main currencies in Rooms of Memory: Crystals and Gold Coins. While both are valuable, Crystals are more versatile, as they can be used to purchase different kinds of items. Both Crystals and Gold are earned after competing Scenes as well as after leveling up. However, only Gold is given for completing quests.
You can spend your currencies in the Shop, found in the bottom-right corner (the icon with the bag of gold). Some of the items available include Talismans, which give you small, temporary bonuses; Energy Sources, which refill your energy if you’re running low; and Gadgets, which give you more power-ups. While they’re all worth checking out, consider using the Piggy Bank Talismans, which allow you to earn more Gold Coins for a limited amount of time.
Another unique way to earn items is by receiving gifts from your Friends. To get started, click on the Social icon in the bottom-right—it’s the one with the man in a hat. You’ll get a friend code which you can send to people you know. If you type in someone’s else’s friend code, they’ll get an invitation to become friends with you. The game will also give you a list of random players every day in case you’re looking for more people to send and receive gifts with.
Tip: Earn More Experience and Gold Coins
In addition to completing scenes and quests, you can earn rewards in Rooms of Memory by assembling artifacts. Click on the Artifacts tab in the bottom-right to see what items you need for each artifact and what the reward is for assembling it. For example, the Amber Box requires Diamond Glass, Alabaster Cufflinks, an Ivory Cup, a Laser Pen, a Leather Cover Diary, and Energy Rocks. The reward for assembling it is 70 Experience and 560 Gold Coins. If you have a surplus of items, you can assemble Artifacts to get more Experience and Gold.
From Scenes to quests to items, there’s a lot to learn in Rooms of Memory — your backpack alone can hold 11 different types of items! Two great resources are the Help and Community tabs above the game. The Help tab displays a list of questions and answers, while the Community tab has questions and answers from other players, and a “Helpful Links” post for those just getting started.
