Mix-n-Magic badges are now available — and they’re a lot different than we expected. It’s a weekly way to get “early access” to Mix-n-Match challenges before they are released in Badge Central with the regular monthly releases. Here’s how it works:
Each week you have 75 cards available to you. You buy turns to pick a card and unlock Mix-n-Match Challenges, Pogo Gems, Tokens, or Free Turns to choose another card. On your first turn, which costs 8 Gems, you’re guaranteed to unlock one of the week’s three Mix-n-Magic Challenges. Each turn after that will cost you 16 Gems, and it’s up to you how many of those 75 turns you use to try to unlock the three badges.
Note: despite numerous reports of which card was chosen and which badge was received, the badge you get on your first turn is in no way related to the card you choose. No matter which card you choose, you have a 1 in 3 shot of getting any of the badges available that week.
To get a better sense of your odds, the deck is stacked with the three individual badges, 39 Gem packs, 23 Token packs, and 10 free turn cards. A same experience is listed at the end of this post.
To get started, or to get a better look at this new feature, check out Pogo’s Mix-n-Magic page.
Have you tried this new feature? Share how many turns you took and what you unlocked in a comment below.
This week’s badges are as follows:
Sweet Tooth 2 – Sweet Slumber Badge
Make a ‘Combo X2’ bonus or better 500 times in 4 weeks!
Earn Sweet Slumber Badge, plus 4000 tokens.
BOGGLE Bash – Baby Talk Badge
Find 500 words in 2 weeks!
Earn Baby Talk Badge, plus 2000 tokens.
Jungle Gin – Shake It Up Badge
Win 5 500-point matches in 3 weeks!
Earn Shake It Up Badge, plus 3000 tokens.
Pogo’s Mix-n-Magic page states these badges will be released on February 23, 2015 at which point these badges will be sold as individual Mix-n-Match badges. (Pogo has stated “We currently do not have any plans to bundle the 3 available badges at this time.”)
How It Works
When you buy a turn, the animation lays out three cards for you to choose from to the right of the deck. Click on one and it will reveal what you’ve chosen. Here is a sample experience:
Turn 1, 8 Gems: Baby Talk Badge
Turn 2, 16 Gems: Token pack: 7,500 tokens
Turn 3, 16 Gems: Free Turn
Turn 4, Free: Gem Pack: 1 Gem
Turn 5, 16 Gems: Gem Pack: 1 Gem
Turn 6, 16 Gems: Shake It Up Badge
Turn 7, 16 Gems: Token Pack: 2,500 tokens
Turn 8, 16 Gems: Gem Pack: 1 Gem
Turn 9, 16 Gems: Gem Pack: 1 Gem
Turn 10, 16 Gems: Gem Pack: 2 Gems
Turn 11, 16 Gems: Gem Pack: 2 Gems
Turn 12, 16 Gems: Gem Pack: 1 Gem
Turn 13, 16 Gems: Token Pack: 2,500 tokens
Turn 14, 16 Gems: Free Turn
Turn 15, Free: Token Pack: 10,000 tokens
Turn 16, 16 Gems: Gem Pack: 8 Gems
Turn 17, 16 Gems: Gem Pack: 2 Gems
Turn 18, 16 Gems: Gem Pack: 10 Gems
Turn 19, 16 Gems: Gem Pack: 10 Gems
Turn 20, 16 Gems: Token Pack: 2,500 Tokens
Turn 21, 16 Gems: Sweet Slumber Badge
In total, I spent 296 Gems and got 3 Mix-n-Match badges early, 22,500 Tokens, and 39 Gems. If you’re looking for a deal, this is not going to be it. However, you can get one of the three for just 8 Gems with your first turn, but you’ll have to stop there and wait a few months until the other two are released with the regular bi-monthly Mix-n-Match releases.
Pogo has a whole set About Mix-n-Magic pages on their site to answer any of our questions. There’s also an interview with Pogo_Lali, the Project Manager who worked on Mix-n-Magic.
The next set of Mix-n-Magic badges will be available next Monday, November 24th.
Thanks to Franja for sending in the news!

Well, I just spent a ton of gems to get three badges. I don’t like this. I ended up spending a lot of gems trying to get the badges. 16 gems and you get tokens??? What a waste on that option. Very disappointed…..
Lura says
Esque: how many is a lot? As many as I showed in the post above? Did you get any big Gem packages or Token packs out of it? I’m sure there are a lot of folks out there dying to know details of your experience before they dive in and try for their own.
For what it’s worth, I was pretty frustrated with the whole thing. Around turn 10 or so my eyes started rolling, even though I full well knew the odds going in. It just seemed like 1 Gem or 2 Gems was just so stingy.
Baleares46 says
Hi
I am in total agreemenT with Esque, costs a lot for getting the challenges earlier it eats the gems to get tokens?
Warning to all members this is a catch to get extra money from you, you do not gain anything the saying Buyer beware is appropriate in this.
Hope this helps
tuff says
wow i won a 8 gem pack and a 16 gem pack
eagles227_98 says
No thank you on this. What a slick way for Pogo to get more $$$ from us(buying gems). After read the single comment already this is one super rip off (my opinion). GL to all.
Richard
tuff says
this is fun but i can see how you can go thru your gems fast lol
eagles227_98 says
I read thru the sample above, so to “win” the 10 gem pk, it cost you 16 gems??? HELLO!!!

jaimecaaussi says
It seems a nice way to get a Mix&Match badge 50 % off every week
Dannie says
Curious about how much tuff (#4) spent getting the 8 gem & 16 gem packs. But really, this is just a snore to me. I would much rather have gotten some sort of discount on a bundle of 3 MnM badges.
Esque says
I didn’t keep track this time Lura, but I will next time because I have to have the badges. It took me 50 tries to get the three badges and the rewards were small, mostly I’d spend 16 gems and get 1 or 2 gems back. A lot were token rewards which are absolutely worthless. The most tokens I “won” was one for 15,000. I’m feeling really ripped off right now. These badges are in the regular mix and match album #62.
tuff says
i won a free play too
WilliamPorygon says
Eech.
If the first turn costs 8 gems and is guaranteed to give you one of the three badges for the week, it’s worth taking that it if all three available badges are ones you’ll want to buy when they’re available the normal way anyway. Otherwise, this is the kind of thing I despise most about gaming sites nowadays: not knowing what you’re paying for until you buy it, and almost being guaranteed to spend much more than what the things you receive are worth.
Kiki says
My view on it is if you collect each and every Mix-and_Match released, this will be a good way to save Gems on four of them every month – that first pick will get you one of the M&Ms for 8 Gems rather than the 16 Gems it will cost in the months to come.
Beyond that? Not for me.
mspatmac says
I did try it and won? the first badge spending 8 gems. Just for the heck of it I tried 5 more times and received a total of 15,000 tokens and 20 gems.
As I understand it, these are badges that are part of the bi monthly regular m&m releases. So I asked myself why would I want them early because I will have less to look forward to in regular releases. I answered myself (lol) no, I can’t see spending so many gems to get them. Tokens don’t matter and in essence I paid for tokens! Not making much sense. Slim to non chance of getting the gems you spent back in the game.
While it may be fun, it’s not cost effective. I will continue to get m&m’s either when they are released or when they go on sale.
Just my humble opinion. Stay warm all, it’s 25 in the Dallas area right now, and for us, that’s darn cold.
beth says
well the way I see it I done it 1 time cause for 8 gems I was guaranteed to win a mix and match badge for 8 gems and that was 1/2 price so I done it the 1 time and QUIT!! LOL hey it was a 50% discount and im DONE!! stick a fork in me π <3 BIG HUGS boop
silnet says
Going to try to make this short and sweet (if possible)
I wasn’t excited about this when we first talk about it a few days ago.
I’m still not excited of course! I’m very disappointed and mad at Pogo.
This is a RIP-OFF !
This is like gambling or like some kind of Badge Lottery. You can spend thousands of gems before you see big “winnings” (if ever) because the House always wins!
There are 75 cards and only 3 badges!!! What are the odds?! Don’t waste your gems!
I used 8 gems for my first turn and only because I was guaranteed a badge, making it a badge at half the regular price. But not for one second I thought about using more gems. I can wait 3 months to buy the rest of the badges for ONLY 16 gems each or less if I wait for a sale.
If every week the first turn will be 8 gems then I guess is not SO bad after. It would be one weekly MnM badge at half-price.
But I’m thinking this was a one time deal.
Lura, can’t believe you waste all those gems, not even if it was for the cause! (read BH)
Ed says
I bought one turn, purchased one badge at half price, and called it a day. Beyond this, the new promotion is a form of gambling whereby the “dealer” not only takes your money but also has control over the outcome.
Pogo, like all games, can be very addictive. Let’s face it, badge collecting is an addiction too. Pogo now wants us to gamble money in a game in which Pogo controls how much they win.
Cheesy but thanks for the half price badge.
antjack99 says
I agree with Lura. I did not keep count but I do remember 1 token pack and at least 2 10 gem packs, I will probably only do the first one as others have posted here as it is half off.
Peg says
In my opinion, the only thing magic about this latest brainstorm from POGO, is watching your gems disappear! The only good deal here is getting the first badge for 1/2 price. No thanks. I will pass!
Tammy says
I’m dissapointed in this! Won’t be participating.
Tami
Faith says
I agree with Kiki #13. I only buy MNMs when they are on sale, and 8 gems each is the best deal we get 99.9% of the time. So I bought one this time, and will only buy one each time new ones are available. π
Esque says
I don’t think these badges are a part of the monthly releases. I think they are a category all their own that are only offered for this week. I hope I’m wrong ’cause this sucks.
MomsBassetHound says
Pogo has finally lost their freaking mind. I will buy the 1 for a half price badge, and they won’t get another gem out of me on that.
I can wait for the rest, still have plenty to do on my accounts.
Suz
Scooter says
In return for using 160 gems I received 1 Mix n Match badge, a couple of free turns, 15,000 tokens and 8 gems. Definitely not worth it.
Obviously with this being a new feature I think many of us will indulge this week before deciding to quit after snaffling a half price badge on the first turn in future weeks.
Helen says
I see buying the first one for 8 gems. You end receiving a badge for half price. After that I see no point in playing this game. It is just a way for pogo to make money. It has no real value to me at all. Of course I got the one badge I didn’t really want. Gems are to precious to me for this.
Kiki says
If I were a gambling woman (heh), my bet is that this feature will go the way of Mini Game Awards and Daily HotShots – a lot of work for them with little return. Pogo will soon do the math, realizing that few are opting for anything more than a half-price badge and pull the plug.
Shall we start a pool to see who can guess how soon that happens?
The latest two new Pogo features (this and Sunday Socials)? Grasping and weak.
Millie (SkyLabAstro) says
Thanks for all the comments, and thank you Lura for the sacrifice you made for all of us. You listing of winnings is of a great help for me to decide my course. Sure I always love early badges! But other than the first badge being only 8 gems, may not be the best deal.
On the other hand, I get my gems from MyCokeRewards, as well as my Club membership, so for me it is not a bad deal at all. Drinking those bottles is my second favorite thing haahaa. Getting things free or on sale is really my second favorite thing.
So I will keep a list of what I spend too, and of what I win, but not sure how many I will get today.
Millie
loveroflibraries says
I don’t buy all of the badges and rarely buy any of them on release day so I’m certainly not going to pay the price of a badge for just a chance at an early one.
If the first play is always 8 gems, always guarantees a badge, and I don’t loathe any of the games or artwork I will continue to do like I did this week and play just the first round though.
Lori says
What a bum deal.
They really do think we are all idiots.
Indy Cindy says
I did the exact same thing as Beth (#15). Paid 8 gems, took one turn got the Boogle Bash Baby Talk m/m and stopped. Happy with a 1/2 price m/m.
Cissy says
I only did the 8 gems to get the ‘guaranteed’ badge, after that no way. Think about all the gems you’d spend just for the other 2??? I’d rather wait until they come out, 16 gems is better than wagering 40 for the luck in getting the next one. I’m not a gambler, so I’m out on this one. I figured POGO would come out with something to have us spend, spend, spend. It would have been nice with the first thought of having 3 badges that go together (magically) now that would have been a winner, but gambling with GEMS not for me.
Lori says
Okay, I did get the one for 8 gems. (Sweet tooth2)
I have no problem with getting one half price.
tiggerlicious196 says
wow, this is just bleh to me- i’ll wait until new badges appear and try it, but after first doing this at the 8 gems they want 8 more(16 total)- i think that’s ick, i can wait for the badges to come out…that’s just silly and what a clever way for pogo to make money(gotta hand it to ’em, that’s what they do)
cora says
I am very disappointed was hoping we could use tokens and not our gems anyway I only had 61 so I decided to waste them lol so here is what I got the badge for first 8 gems then I got free turn, free turn, free turn, 10 gems, 1 gem, 1 gem, 2,500 tokens. What I am not sure of are the gems added right away that we won ? if so then I lost another 12 gems so yes this is a rip off. I will only play from now on for the one each time for 8 gems if that is not just a one and only time deal.
~*~Bobbi~*~ says
I’ve had THREE cups of Coffee already, My Eyes are starting to Water, I’m getting that WTH ???? Feeling as I’m trying to understand this at 8 am!!!
Are the people at EA/Pogo CRAZY !?!
Going to do the same as most and get the ONE turn ONLY!
But only after I have the rest of the WHOLE Pot of Coffee lol ! Need to wake up more
chelsmom says
What a ripoff! And they are old badges already won. Sweet tooth dates back to 2006!!! Wow Pogo, what’s going on?
Jacob says
So here is my take on this whole mix n magic badge rollout. Why couldn’t pogo allow its players to spend their tokens on some (if not all) of the 75 turns each week while having the initial badge on turn 1 set @ 8 gems. The way I see it if everyone were to participate under these terms pogo could still make money. I guess all pogo players can only hope that there is some sort of modification to this new rollout that will implement and incorporate the use of a token based system.
MomsBassetHound says
But there are SOME, not me, that will go after all 3 of them b/c they have to have it all before anyone else. Look at the people that spent gems (money) to finish the Starter Album early by buying slots each week….for something that could be completed for free by Oct. 16th.
I got 1 badge for 8 gems and called it a day π
Suz
MomsBassetHound says
chelsmom #36 – They are all NEW badges that are not scheduled to be released until later, the date in badge central is incorrect, as usual.
Suz
chelsmom says
Thanks Moms. Just saw that. Still a ripoff!
MomsBassetHound says
Jacob #37 – They can NEVER allow tokens to be used instead of gems. Pogo has stated many times that this will NEVER happen.
The moment that you can use tokens (no value) for something of value (gems, badge) Pogo then becomes a online gambling site and subject to all the laws and regulations.
It is NOT going to happen EVER!
Suz
Nancy says
Wow. Not a lot of positive comments here. Thank you, Lura, for doing the test drive for us. I’m not even going to do the first one. I’m in no hurry to get all the badges right away. I’ll wait for a SALE. Good luck to all those who try this.
melisndav122003 says
I agree with MomsBassettHound. I am not going to spend my gems on a chance to win 2 gems by spending 16. Also, I have enough badges to keep me working on that I can wait until they came out as a normal mix-n-match badge and I will purchase them at that point. I am also not one of those people that will have to have it before everyone else. I work extremely hard for my money and I don’t plan on buying additional gems to have a chance to get a badge before everyone else.
I think Pogo thought that people were going to think that these were badges that going to be limited or special edition, and if you didn’t try for them, then you would miss out on them. This one may backfire on them.
Esque says
Are you sure these will be released at a later date? When you start the game, it says 6 days, so many hours left, then, there are another 3 available starting next Monday. My impression is they are just available this week?? So confused!!!
virginia says
Pogo has lost their minds. Why in the world would I spend 16 gems to win 2 or 16 gems for a few tokens ? I tried. I though maybe I wasn’t understanding something but oh yes I understand plenty.
Sheri L says
What a complete waste of time and money.
I got the half priced badge. Wanted to see what happened next, so spent 16 gems for the next turn. Received a free turn. Used that as it cost me nothing for the extra shot, and received ONE gem.
So, my testing the system, just to see what was what, cost me.
Here is the breakdown:
8 gems for badge
16 gems for curiosity resulting in “free” turn
used “free” turn
Received 1 gem.
TOTAL COST: 23 gems with ONE badge to show for it, and which would have cost me 16 gems at full price!
Will only use this weekly for the half priced badge. No thank you on the rest.
oxfordstnboots says
Well I am totally confused and disappointed. I agree with Bobbi # 35.
I knew we would have to pay but this sounds ridiculous. I will obviously get the one badge for 8 gems. Wonder if each set of 3 badges will be the same and be able to get one for 8 gems with each new package. Since I usually wait for sales or retirements, will never gamble my gems for nothing.
WilliamPorygon says
“The moment that you can use tokens (no value) for something of value (gems, badge) Pogo then becomes a online gambling site and subject to all the laws and regulations.”
Makes me wonder why this doesn’t get them classified as a gambling site, then; you’re spending 16 gems (value) usually for less than 16 gems in return, or even tokens (which as we’ve established have no value). In fact, it’s really a no-win: even if you were to get so lucky as to get the badges on the 2nd and 3rd plays, you’ve basically broken even since those badges will be available to buy at that exact price 3 months down the road anyway.
I wouldn’t be surprised if higher-ups at EA insisted that Pogo do this, to be honest. They’re such a scuzzy company that I’ve pretty much boycotted everything related to them outside of Pogo, and the only reason I haven’t left Pogo is because it’s just too hard for me to voluntarily give up my account with 10+ years of effort earning tokens, badges, etc. put into it.
loveroflibraries says
Esque #44
Yes, they are suppose to be available in about 3 months unless Pogo messed up the About Mix n Magic page. here’s a direct quote
“Mix-n-Magic is a fun and optional way to gain βearly birdβ access to Mix-n-Match Challenges. By unlocking the Challenge early, you can start working on completing your goal in the applicable game and earn a Badge approximately three months before that Challenge becomes available in Badge Central for regular game play.”
MomsBassetHound says
William #48 – I’m sure that legal checked it out first, but I almost hope that they didn’t. That would end this program fast.

NOBOZOS says
When will people ever wake up and learn that EVERY company is in business to make money. So they (EA Games/POGO) market their strategy on how to make profits in any way possible. If you read what they are selling, and still fall for their (snake oil) tactics, blame yourselves. It is the same principle behind Walmart’s self check outs. Fast, easy and fun is how they market it! No it’s not easy and fun nor fast! And the consumer is not compensated for doing their (Walmart’s) job which is added in the price of your purchases to begin with. So the Walton’s live better, NOT YOU! It is dishonest business tactics, and all I can say is avoid them.
oxfordstnboots says
Well just went now and got the one badge for 8 gems. If this is going to happen each week then I guess its a bargain if you know enough to stop after the first time.
BBrown0316 (Beverly) says
They have got to be kidding!! The sample experience above spent 296 gems to get 3 mix’n’match badges and 39 gems (enough for 2 more MnM’s at regular price) β a total of 5 MnM’s, that would have normally cost 80 gems, for 296 gems!!!!!
Other than Turn 1, there isn’t one single turn that gave anything that even equalled the 16 gems spent. I spent 8 gems for Turn 1, and that’s it.
In the past, some members have suggested that we be allowed to buy gems with our tokens, and Pogoβs answer to that is that is that the tokens arenβt worth anything. Yet, here they are, doing the exact opposite (in their favor of course) β spend gems to get worthless tokens.
They will have big participation today, but unless people don’t keep track and thus don’t realize just how much they are losing, this program should fall flat on it’s face.
rabbitroserabbit says
I also just did one turn for the 8 gem badge. I’ll probably eventually get all 3, but I’ll wait until they have some sort of sale. I just buy certain badges as an incentive to rank out in them.
Blysse says
I only did it this time because there was a guaranteed badge for only 8 Gems. I got the Baby Talk badge, which I just completed.
beth says
well on the gambling side of things this is out right gambling, cause we are BUYING chances at winning a badge or gems but pogo’s come back would be we are selling them TOKENS, which they claim are of NO value (which I agree they are of no value) but its also against the TOS to buy tokens π so it should be all gems or free guesses or badges π LOL really just thinking out loud to what others have said <3 BIG HUGS boop
Brenda M. says
After reading all the posts here, I’m going to buy the half priced badge for Boggle and escape fast before my “gambling” side takes over. π It’s very tempting, but no, not for me.
Esque says
Oops, never mind just read this, If you missed the early access window for any new Mix-n-Match Challenges or just want to wait, donβt worry: theyβll be available to buy in Badge Central a few months after appearing in Mix-n-Magic. Do I feel stupid! Won’t be playing that game except for the guaranteed first pick, lol
BBrown0316 (Beverly) says
The badge does go into your Mix’nMatch album, so it doesn’t have to be completed right away.
cocomlis says
Eight gems for a guaranteed badge fits right in with my ‘only buy when they are on sale’ methodology for Pogo…so that is it for me. Good luck for the rest of you!
mrslavallie says
I think I’ll do my first turn for 8 gems that’s guaranteed to give me the one badge, and then I’ll take a pass on this. Let’s see how long this one lasts, lol. Seriously – Pogo, people had been asking to buy GEMS with TOKENS. Now, not that I see THAT ever happening – but is this their tongue in cheek response – give ’em TOKENS for GEMS?
Wow, Pogo, just wow. I look at Lura’s example and think – almost 300 gems for 3 badges, just to get them early?
Are any of us TRULY that badge hungry? π
AzScorpion3 says
Wow! Can’t believe this. Pogo has completely lost their mind. No way will I go beyond the first 8 gem badge. I don’t think there is a single positive comment here.
mrslavallie says
Should’ve waited a second to combine my posts – I am SO grateful that I got the Baby Talk badge for Boggle, because I would’ve even buy the other two – don’t enjoy those games, but I love Boggle. So, YAY for a Boggle 8 gem badge, and now I am DONE with this silly nonsense!!
Lura, how you see it, are they going to offer a guaranteed badge every week for the first turn of 8 gems, or do you think that’s just a one off here to encourage people to try it?
Lura says
mrslavallie (#61, #63): I think some people are truly that badge hungry, and it’s great to have this choice for those who want to spend their Gems this way. π
I don’t think the guaranteed badge with the first turn is going to go away. It’s going to be the one perk to this for a lot of folks, that a M-n-M badge can be had a few months early for half price. I also see another perk: we’re going to get a sneak peek of upcoming M-n-M badges each week. I love me some sneak peeks.
MomsBassetHound says
Unfortunately I didn’t think of this until I took the 1 badge for 8 gems.
What if they only offer these as a 3 badge set in 3 months? Those of us that collect them all and only got the 1 badge for 8 gems are going to be royally screwed.

YIKES!!! And as *Bobbi* #35 said, “Are the people at EA/Pogo CRAZY???” or WHAT? I have indeed had my whole pot of coffee and think my marbles are in order, so my mind rebels at the thought of this little game.
I will go and spend the 8 gems for ONE badge and go away. Not a gambler here – not lucky at all. In fact, I will prolly get the one M&M that I don’t really want, LOL!
Lura, I do thank you for spending your hard earned money/gems in order to explain this “game” to us all. I did not understand it from the description, but through your experience! Then I fully understood…
I know this is a can of worms, but is this STILL not considered gambling?? Taking $$ (gems) into casino (Pogo), putting it across table, picking a card and taking chance on “winning”?? Well, it sure is to me. Even so, either way, I’m not playing…Hello? The House always wins! (They have to – in order to stay in business)
Another TWO CENTS worth: Pogo could make a whole lot of $$ from many of us, by releasing old badges or albums from the past that not all of us bought, even if we have been members for 14 years! Not all had the money nor the time to spend playing them, even if we had wanted to…..sez I. Enough ranting – it is what it is.
Have a better day, y’all.
Blessings, :)DD

NOBOZOS (51), I like self checkout at walmart if I’m not price matching or using coupons. It allows me to control how items are bagged (or not), and for people with only a few items, it’s generally quicker than using a regular cashier.
Of course there are issues when the machine double scans your items or if the price doesn’t scan correctly. But the interface is easy to use and the employee supervising the area you know is helping you as they have to tap on your screen when you have an issue.
I did self checkout at kroger before halloween and wow, that experience left a *lot* to be desired. I was buying a pumpkin and there was nothing on the screen to help determine *which* of the 5 choices of pumpkins I was buying. I wasn’t buying fairy pumpkins as they look different, I wasn’t buying a “small” pumpkin, but was it a medium, large or jumbo I had no idea. I clicked the wrong size and only knew it was wrong by the price displayed *after*. (Walmart usually has the prices on the produce selection page so you know which is which.)
I then clicked the assistance requested button and the lady sort of wandered near me, her face buried in her tablet, I mentioned I think I clicked the wrong size and I *think* she clicked something on the tablet and my price changed, but she never looked at me or spoke to me.
And on topic…even for 50% off the first roll I wouldn’t do this ‘game’ as it’s a sleezy way to make you buy more gems than you’d initially buy. If the gems packs *started* at 5 gems and went up to 50, there might be an even trade off, but it sounds like a total waste of gems, especially to have tokens as a prize. Why not mini mall items (gem items starting at 12 gems) as a prize with an exception that if you already have said item, you get a free turn.
AzScorpion3 says
A hobbible thought just occured to me. It states these 3 badges will be released (Feb 23, 2015). I certainly hope that buying one or more of these will not put this in the category of : “you have already won 1 or more of these badges” and not let us buy the bundle in the future. If this happens I will kiss Pogo goodbye! From past experience it causes me to boil!
sandy says
this is the most ludicrous thing I’ve ever heard! no one in their right mind would go for this. I mean really what is a badge worth? more than the useless tokens? not really. The badges I “buy” are only worth the entertainment value of doing a challenge, the badge itself is about the same value to me as a token. I love my tokens, don’t get me wrong but I would never waste real $$$ on a scam like this. Shame on pogo for coming up with something this lame. If they want to get people to gamble on this, there should be gem packs of 50 or 100 in the mix. 2 gems just makes me laugh.

I also fully agree with DD #66’s last paragraph of two cents worth. They would make so much more if they released more of the old badges put into the vault. I am not saying they should be less than original gems as that would be unfair to those that paid full price originally.

I think all the turns should be 8 gems or less . 16 gems for just some useless tokens is silly . I will just do the 8 gems for a badge each week …thanks for the heads up as always π

I’m confused. I purchased one (and got Sweet Tooth 2) but told me I had to “unlock” the game. So I purchased another one (for 16 gems) and got Jungle Gin but it STILL tells me I have to “unlock” Sweet Tooth 2. What’s going on? I hadn’t planned on spending 24 gems. Looks like the Jungle Gin badge is going to cost more than normal. What a piece of …… well, you know.
Pogo is ripping us off BIG TIME on this farce!!!

ddsrocks (#68): it was no problem at all. I’d do it again with another account if I felt it would help, but I think I got all the answers we needed from the first 296-Gem investment (and seeing Scooter’s comment, I may have actually gotten lucky).
AzScorpion (#70)/MomsBassetHound (#71): I’ve got an email in about this and am waiting on a response. It’d be ludicrous for them to bundle them, and I think the only reason we’re even remotely worried about bundles is because we (I?) misinterpreted parts of the artist’s interview in our efforts to grasp information that just wasn’t there in Pogo’s teaser posts.

Thank You Lura for the test run. I bought the first one for 8 gems will go no futher. With all the information that has come out it is a big RIP OFF. I sure hope Pogo falls flat on there face over this. Thanks

#1 – Got the Sweet Tooth badge
#2 – Had to buy a turn 16 gems & received 2 gems.
#3 – Had to buy a turn 16 gems & received 1 gem.
Yuck, yuck. Not for me – you could go broke trying to win. So, I could have just saved my gems and purchased the other two when they are available. If they do it again I will do the first one and quit. Not for me, I don’t have to have badges the second they come out. And I really hate Sweet Tooth too! Would have much rather one the Boggle Bash or Gin badges. Oh well, lesson learned. Good luck to everyone else.

I took the “risk” the first time out…hey, I’ll try anything once; twice if I like it; three times if it pays well, HA!.
1st time – MNM badge
2nd time – 2 gems
3rd time – 2,500 tokens
4th time – MNM badge
5th time – 7,500 tokens
I quit after that. I’ll be just doing the “8 gems for the first time” each week and will get the rest of the badges later. Besides, the MNM that I didn’t get this time was in Sweet Tooth, which isn’t exactly my favorite game, so I can wait!
Thanks for all you do for us every day, Lura!!
LindaS says
Okay, I am totally confused (doesn’t take much to do this). If I spend 8 gems for a badge, I am not guaranteed to get a badge of my choice-it’s a random Pogo choice . I could end up with the Jungle Gin badge?

Linda #79 – Yes, you could end up with the Jungle Gin badge.
I got Sweet Tooth on the 1 and only card I purchased. Lura got Boggle Bash on her first card. It’s random.

Got a response to my question already!
I asked: “When they’re released normally a few months from now, will these be released as individual badges at the cost of 16 Gems a piece? People are concerned there’s going to be a bundle situation and they’ll lose out on one or two if they don’t spend the Gems now to get all 3 with Mix-n-Magic turns.”
The response: “They may eventually be parts of bundles, but the plan is to release them normally as well.”
Susie says
I like the badges; however by reading the comments, these will be released in a Mix and Match monthly down the road. Thank you for testing this, Lura; yet I’m so sorry you spent so much. I’ll pass. Like Suz (#23), I have enough to do. I would rather spend my gems on HOGs or monthly badges and the occasional mini item or three.
hsofficer says
This mix and magic idea is utterly stupid and I am very angry. It cost me 16 gems to win 2500 tokens and another 16 gems to win 2 gems. I am very angry about this and I want my gems back
Susie says
I’m such a sucker lol. I tried one for eight gems and received a half price Sweet Tooth badge. I’m going to quit while I’m ahead and get the rest when they come out. π

Just had a strange experience. On my second account I paid my first 8 gems and it said I picked Jungle Gin badge. But …. went to home page and it told me I won it for Sweet Tooth ???? mmmmm nothing surprises me with Pogo.
Marie says
Why don’t they just make it SIMPLE and increase the price of badges!? It’s bad enough we all pay for virtual art but to make us jump at a dangling carrot is, IMHO, serious exploitation! I feel badly for those who just HAVE to have ALL the badges. It seems like nobody that works at Pogo, plays Pogo. They can’t feel our pain! lol I would rather pay more for badges than play a silly game that essentially steals my gems! I hope they reconsider this..not for me, not going to “play” into their hands.
Have a great day all.
AzScorpion3 says
Well Lura #84 . Because they stated that they “may” be part of a bundle in the future I will NOT buy the first ones in this “magical” promotion in future weeks. ANOTHER loss for Pogo. Can’t thank you enough Lura for your work and time spent here.
LacertaCK says
In the “more information”, it says:
“If the week has expired, any remaining Challenges that you havenβt unlocked will not be available for that weekβs Mix-n-Magic. But, look in Badge Central three months later for the Challenges that you didnβt have time to unlock during the week.”
That STRONGLY implies that you could win 1 or 2 now and still be able to buy the others in 3 months. So if they are going to sell the 3 in a bundle later, I would call this false advertising.

And now I have to decide what to do about this week. We all know they can change their plans between now and then. And since I do have a complete collection it means more to me than to the members that only buy some of them.

I am not even going anywhere near this thing, not even for that first badge at half off.
I only buy badges for games I want to play and/or rank up in, so taking a ‘chance’ to ‘win’ an unknown badge is worthless to me, even at half off!
Kathy says
Ok I just went and got a badge for 8 gems. I didn`t like the fact that you couldn`t get the badge ya want. I wanted the baby talk badge but got the sweet tooth one. I won`t be getting the rest of them. 8 gems for one badge isn`t bad. But what is bad is not being able to pick which one you want . It`s the luck of picking a card. So I won`t be doing this ever again. I want to be able to see what I`m getting yes a badge is 8 gems but if it`s not the one ya want, you`re more or less stuck with it. I also looked at my badge albums, I have tons to work on. So I`ll wait for the badges to be release so I can see what I`m getting, not what pogo thinks I want by not seeing what you get. It`s my gems. I want to be able to pick my own badge , and not by chance.

I have read thru all the comments this morning and have clearly decided that I’m not going to waste my gems on such a scam. I love my Pogo, don’t get me wrong, but not enough to get suckered into this. Also for MomsBassetHound #96 comment….I would hate to see your complete collection get wrecked if this does indeed turn into a bundle situation, as its already unfair that we are not able to buy bundles that we already own a badge in.
I can’t believe that Pogo is so foolhearty to think that this program will be a success. After the initial gems are spent by its members, they will all realize the faults with this and this will fall flat on its face. As with any business its all about money….but come on Pogo, alot of people will spend the money, just give us somthing we want for our money.
amber says
I think pogo should start returning some gems. I went through 180 gems and got only tokens and small amounts of gems. So basically gettting the sweet tooth badge early cost me 165 gems. This is isn’t even fair gambling and I think it is out of place for pogo. WORST IDEA EVER POGO!!!!!
PrairiesDweller says
I was still awake when the promotion was released and read all the information. I figured only buying 1 badge for 8 gems made sense, but would wait for the morning to read bh posts.
Here is some of the info in the small print:
” Requires an active and valid Club Pogo subscription. Guest Pass members are not eligible. Valid only in U.S. and Canada (except Quebec). EA reserves the right to cancel, suspend or modify Mix-n-Magic at any time in its discretion.”
Lura I can’t find the info you have on the breakdown of the 75 cards or the maximum winnings?
I don’t know the legalities but to me this a lottery. 1 gem is worth about $.06 (when you buy 1000). So after the first 8 gem card, every card (lottery ticket) costs about $1.
And what can you WIN??? According to Lura’s info:
1. Another card (lottery ticket – value $0).
2. A very small amount of fake money (tokens – value $0).
3. A badge (retail value $1).
4. Money (gems). Yes for every $1 lottery ticket you can win $.06, $.12, $.50 or the
Grand Prize of $.60.
Tell all your friends, neighbours, relatives, even complete strangers!*
This reminds me of the plot for the movie/play the Producers. “Lets put on something that is so bad, it will get cancelled”.

I’m not a big spender by any means. My only source of gems is the 100 I get yearly, and this means I know I’ll never get every badge. For me, that makes this deal kind of tempting. A half price badge every week?
I could even drag it out and only buy one every month, and that way I wouldn’t run out before it’s time to renew.
I won’t deny I’m also kind of worried about the threat of a bundle incoming, but for now it seems like a good deal if I only buy 1 card.

Yes! We want to make sure everyone is happy and that thereβs always something new in Badge Central. After approximately three months, the Mix-n-Match sets that debut in Mix-n-Magic will arrive in Badge Central to buy.
Not sure what others make of this wording but to me it says that the sets will be available to buy in Badge Central in 3 months….I see some bundling in the future or some poor wording on Pogo’s part in this interview…..

I saw someone say Pogo is a business which is true. I just fail to see how this makes sense from a business standpoint. If by the end the customer feels ripped off, that is not a benefit. I realize there are some that will want the badges early to wear the icons before others and to them it will be worth it. However, I think that is a small percentage. The people who loyally buy badges are the ones getting ripped off. It in no way entices people like myself who can take or leave mix n match badges to do this. If they want to get me interested in buying more, the only thing that would work for me is after completing so many you receive a mini item. I know this would only appeal to mini lovers, but badge lovers already buy all the badges. They need a better idea than this because others like me will not be interested in their “magic”.

Thanks you two, you gave me a laugh out of all this hoopla. LOL!
When we first started learning about this I was afraid it might be something like Spigo does, for the weekly challenges you have to play/win three different games to get the badge, and of course invariably there will be a game I hate or just won’t play. Somehow, this mess seems even worse than that. Some may find it a bit more enticing if the three challenges/badges were something that were unique and wouldn’t be released in 3 months but why on Earth would I gamble that many gems to just get the games early?
I’m not even sure I’ll pay the 8 gems for the first one. I absolutely love Jungle Gin and love that badge but with my luck I’d get Sweet Tooth and I a mighty sick of Sweet Tooth already doing this week’s badge. π I’d rather wait and spend the 16 gems for a game I love than 8 gems for one I may never do.

Hi All,
After giving this some careful thought and after having several phone conversations about this, I am still left with my one question. We have been told over & over that tokens cannot be given a monetary value because POGO would then be considered a gambling site and subject to specific rules and laws. Why then, is it not considered gambling to to use gems (which have monetary value…in order words, we pay $$ for them) to purchase what basically amounts to be a lottery ticket which may award you a badge (which you will eventually use purchased gems to pay for if you so choose), tokens (no monetary value), or gems (which you do use $$ to pay for)? I guess there are ‘loopholes’ around this, but I just do not understand what ‘they’ were thinking.
Ro
PS: At this point, I am not participating in this ‘magical’ addition to the POGO gods’ repertoire.
Janet says
After reading all the comments I only did the 8 gems for one badge..of course got the Sweet Tooth one and was hoping for the Jungle Gin Badge but it was a gamble. Did not continue and was so glad I quit esp. after hearing that to pay for tokens is just ridiculous. The thing that bother me was that I don’t keep my password on file, I always enter it when I use my gems or when I continue my membership. Well I was surprise that I did not have to enter my password to get the badge for 8 gems. Did not like that. So be careful, cause if you continue its way too easy to use up a whole lot of gems. Thanks, Lura, for this wonderful site..it helps so many people to make a choice after hearing the comments.

Well, like Moms/Suz said #96 – I am NOT doing this again, because of the vague poor wording by Pogo in re: bundled in the future? I am NOT going to get in that position again…I am still too angry over my current bundle situation! Would HAPPILY PAY POGO for entire bundles where I already own 1 or 2 in them, but they won’t make those available….so. Yes, I understand the rationale new vs. old.
Also, a BIG question: I ‘won’ the Sweet Tooth with my only 8 gem purchase, BUT on my HomePage, the Boggle Bash is listed????? with Green button sez ‘UNLOCK’ and just below sez in Red “Limited Time” – ??? My M&M Badge book has the Sweet Slumber badge in it, so what is with the Boggle Badge listing for Home? Which one did I ‘win’? **LOL** And does it mean there’s a Limited Time to EARN that badge or what? Only Pogo could confuse me this much (because of their squirrley wording in issues of the past). Anyone know about this? Afraid to push button saying Unlock. Oh, and BTW, I did push original middle button and supposedly got the Sweet Tooth, but think that’s random choice.

I’m in total agreement with most everyone that’s already posted in that getting one M&M for 8 gems is a good deal and I’m another of the users that usually wait for sales to get M&M badges so I’ll be taking advantage it fairly often especially since I don’t have any games I really hate so I won’t be stuck with a random badge I’d loathe doing.
As for any 16 gem turns after that those are total waste of gems, IMO since it doesn’t like you can gain anything worth more than another M&M which is only worth 16 gems anyway (and thank you, Lura, for testing that out at some expense).
I was curious to see if there were any sneak peeks of the upcoming December M&Ms and there isn’t yet so I’m wondering if maybe these 3 badges and, presumably, the 3 to be offered next week would constitute the badges to be released on 12/1.

MomsBassetHound says
Well, I wasn’t going to sit and worry about this until February 23rd. I have a complete collection and I was not willing to risk it. But I will NEVER do this again on my main account. On my other accounts just getting 1 badge of 3 wouldn’t matter b/c I don’t get them all on either of those accounts.
I didn’t get the 3rd and final badge until the 38th card. The other 35 cards were 7 free turns, 10 token packages, and 18 gem packages.
I got 20 gems once, and 16 gems another time, 12 gems once, 10 gems a couple of times, but most were 1 or 2 gems. I ended up with a total of 107 gems. The tokens ran from 2,500 to 15,000, for a total of 62,500 tokens.
So, in the end it cost me a total of 381 gems……all b/c I turned that first card without thinking about how they were going to be released on February 23rd. Since that is not a normal M&M release date I really think they are going to be bundles of new badges.
If you ever hear of me taking that first card again you can Pogo mail me and tell me that I’m an idiot, not that I haven’t been called worse…..LOL

MomsBassetHound says
beyechonjr # 143 – Well, she is also the one that posted in the forums that you got a completion badge for every 20 M&M badges completed, not when you complete an album. And we know that is NOT correct.
And there is nothing to say that they won’t change their minds between now and February 23rd. It states right in the “magic” rules that they can amend the game whenever they feel like it, without any notice.
And let’s face it. If just 100,000 members only buy the first card and get a badge for 8 gems Pogo has lost 800,000 gems by not selling it at full price. And Pogo is a business and need to make money to stay in business.
So I’m still standing by what I said…..I will NEVER do it again on my main account.
I hope I am wrong and the rest of you that want all 3 badges are able to buy the other 2 individually in February, but I just was not willing to wait and take a chance of messing up my complete collection.

I only managed a second badge out of 3 and I’m 49 cards left.
Like I said I’m awful for this.
I’m getting mad if it’s a bundle thing and I won’t get the Gin one now. I got Sweet Tooth and Boggle.
playcody06 says
I played the game for 8 gems wanted the gin badge and I picked it, but I think pogo is nuts to think members are going to go for this, I also think they should have put these out as bundles of 3 like they did before on the first or 15 of the month a lot more people would buy them if they liked the games,, I hope people will come here first before they waste there gems. to me this is just being greedy.if M&M were cheaper and LE cheaper maybe more people would buy them cause today the cost of living is so high and money is very hard to come by. living in Canada costs more .
Lura says
To eliminate confusion I’ve added this updated information to the post above.
Pogo’s Mix-n-Magic page states these badges will be released on February 23, 2015 at which point these badges will be sold as individual Mix-n-Match badges. (Pogo has stated “We currently do not have any plans to bundle the 3 available badges at this time.”)
bjpextra says
I wasn’t willing to take that kind of chance (and give away gems) as gems are too hard to come by so I just got one on my account and one on Mom’s. Luckily she got Sweet Tooth that she plays a lot. I got the Jungle Gin one which is ok since I am working on the Best Of on both our accounts but I had rather have had either of the others on mine. But I will take a badge for 8 gems but that’s it. I am going to try and stick to my notion to buy only when on sale but I don’t know if I can stick to it…..
ShaolinsDragon says
THIS IS A WASTE !!! LOL … I bought 1k extra gems just to see what the hype was about.I played the cards and spent a total of 400 gems to get 3 badges. The gem cards don’t even give you an option to get something worth playing. So you get these badges anyways when they are released for 16 gems…this is a scam and a crock of poo stew.I’m so disappointed and disgusted with Pogo right now I cant see strait.Seems like every change these days takes away from us and benefits them. What a greedy company they are…I’m almost ready to quit Pogo…In total they make 100 bucks a month off me…youd think they wanna keep us happy. What a sad day in Pogo π

after reading so far all of these comments, i’ll wait until the 3 badges are ones i’d do or at least can manage, just in case i get one that i hate the game because knowing me and my luck it’d be in that very game i can’t do/despise, haha…terrible idea by them though, that’s for sure, i hope it doesn’t last

Yes to one (1) half price M&M badge three months before “official” release but to go beyond that is pure insanity ~ thank you Luraο»Ώ for doing the leg work (read wallet workout) so the rest of us thinking peeps could avoid the pitfalls of paying gems for tokens, or paying more gems for less gems….greed trumps all and peeps lose…well unless Pogo plans on using all their windfall profits to design new games…but don’t hold your breath.

Will there be a Special Mix-n-Magic Album to store the Badges?
Joe C says
I will only be doing the first time and only on the account where I purchase all of them.
50% off for one Mix badge sounds nice. After that, my need to complete badges and buy them does not make me want to gamble to get them earlier.
I would much rather pay gems to be able to go for Special Edition badges that I missed in 2004, when I was hiding from a stalker. I would also pay gems to get extra rank badges in existing games with rank badges or having them added to games that had a weekly badge in the past.
I love spending gems on new badges, like the episodes or the mix badges. But I do not need to get them any earlier.
lewie2011 says
I agree that this is a waste of ur hard earned $$!! its cheaper to wait!!
does anyone know when they will come out with the mix-n-magic badges for us to just purchase rather than wasting my gems to ‘win’??
sirron1957 says
Have to agree with, probably, most if not all of the opinions here….BIG disappointment. I’ll save my gems and wait till they come out at regular price. About 15 turns and all I got was tokens, maybe 32 gems, 2 free turns and 1 Mix ‘N Match badge. Big ripoff!!!!!!
Jay says
It’s only good for the first badge. The other badges really feel like gambling.
I hate to think EA or Pogo want to target addicts who spend money on anything and everything offered as badges go, This is something that can easily cost $20 or more every week and get very little of value in return. π
I feel 75 cards is way too many to have. If I were to offer this site feature, I’d scale it back to no more than 20-25 cards. I still don’t feel good about a virtual lottery ticket.
freluis75 says
try my luck got sweet tooth for 8 gems
goofygoober519 says
Well I definitely will not spend 16 gems on *Maybe* getting a badge. Theoretically you can turn over all 75 cards and that 75th card might be the last badge. Only 1,192 gems not including the few you “win” back. Only a $75 investment on 3 badges LOL Come on Pogo! I give this maybe 2 months and it will be gone. or it will become monthly instead of weekly.
sandy says
I spent 48 gems on nothing actually 50 gems for i got 2 gems free, what a waste of time, for the 8 gems at the beginning for 1 badge than your hook and they take(pogo) that is very disappointed
goofygoober519 says
Correction: I didn’t include the 10 freebie cards you can win, still 1,032 gems to turn over all 75 cards!
Storm says
Well, what can I say…
I tested it out and managed to get all 3 Mix-n-Match badges with the 3rd and final card at 8 cards left. So in total I spent 737 Pogo Gems (which includes the Pogo Gems I won) and gained almost 100,000 tokens. Will I being using the Mix-n-Magic feature next week? No, in fact, I will never use the feature again.

Here’s Pogo magic : “POOF your gems disappeared.”
I am not even doing the first card, will wait til Feb. to see how it turns out.
Good luck and good hunting for all who try!
Carol S says
I have drawn a few cards. Each card costs 16 gems. I got some gems on 2 cards. What was very aggravating is that for the 16 gems I paid for, one card all I got were tokens. I don’t know about you, but I am not happy about paying 16 gems for any amount of tokens.
I am interested to hear others’ experiences.
Cindy says
I tried the Mix N Magic game. I am not sure that I like it. I do not like the fact that you do not always get a badge when you pay 16 gems. I expect to get a badge, not tokens or more gems. I especially do not want to pay for tokens when I can get them for free playing the games. I think it should be badges only. I like the idea of getting to get the badges early, but I think it should be at a discounted price. of say 10 gems or something.
I do like that Pogo is coming up with new things, I just will not be playing this game.
Louise Hodson says
well it is a deal to get the first badge for 8 gems but it is just another money grab for pogo I won 1 or 2 gems and one badge a free turn and tokens and spent a lot of gems
I will get the one badge in the future for 8 gems though

You won the Sweet Tooth badge, check your last MnM album.
What is shown in the Home Page, is one of the badge you don’t have, they ar trying to get you into get them. If you click the “unlock” button it will take you to the Mix & Magic page when you can keep playing (turning cards) for a chance to “unlock” another of the 3 badges.
Is similar to what happens wiht regular MnM badges. They are “advertised” In that section of the home page and shows a green button saying “Buy Now”.
For these M&Magic badges they change it Unlock because “technically” they are not for sale, what you are doing is gambling for them but guess they can’t put a “Gamble Now” button LOL
sallybeenp says
I can’t believe the new magic mix and match It is a total rip off I too spent over 200 gems for nothing who wants tokens and less gems than it cost for a turn to get a new challenge just a shame pogo had to go this far to get more money from there badge hungry players I will not be playing that again , very disappointed thought it would be fun but just a waste of time and gems.
rabbitandkitty says
having read the comments I certainly aint gonna bother with this, just seems like a rip off, spend spend gems for pittenace and wheres the magic in it.i cant see them keep this going.id rather wait and buy badges when they come out at a later date,i mean geeez some saying spent so much gems and may be get 1 badge ,1 gem,why use gems if u only get tokens ,we shouldn’t have to pay to get those.if im that desperate for tokens I play Claire get 20,000 in under 20 mins and don’t cost me nowt,
ddsrocks says
silnet #168 – Thanks for the reply! I did think about the yellow vs. green button, but with all the possible double-speak of this new feature – I did not DARE push that Unlock button!! But, I sure wanted to, LOL! It’s the curiousity factor in all of us, I guess. I had looked in M&M album and thought it was SweetTooth, but in my heart I had wanted the BoggleBash…that’s what made it so tempting. Thanks for the clarity! Now, I must decide if I want to play next week, or just wait until they come out on their own? Heaven knows, I have enough Unfinished badges, ‘specially after the BOGO sale. So, I guess, it’s over for me. Thanks again…
Blessings,

Jen says
After contemplating whether to take the chance of getting 1 badge for 8 gems and the others not winding up in a bundle that I would then be unable to obtain, I have decided that I will probably go for it and get the one for 8 gems. My thinking is that there are around 200 previous badges & 1 album I do not have so I may never have a ‘complete’ collection anyway unless Pogo gets off their duff and re-releases older badges and albums, so it would give me another badge for my collection at a discounted price. And that will end my participation in their magic because as many others have already stated this is a promotion that is absolutely insane to participate in any farther unless you are just interested in donating to Pogo without feeling like you got any reasonable return for your investment.
It has been stated that Pogo is a business and needs to do things to bring in money which I fully understand, however my view on that is that if you wish to stay in business the idea is to do things that are profitable with controlling expense. And to me this is not a profitable idea and used more expense than it will end up recouping. In the interview with the project manager it was stated that this idea was started in April which means they used around 6-7 months of manhours on this idea. Does anyone think they are going to recoup enough from this crazy idea to cover that expense before they realize it was not a profitable idea? I don’t because I don’t think it is going to take long before people realize just how much it would cost them to try for these badges each week and stop participating. They went a ‘tad’ extreme when it takes too many chances to get the badges (up to 75!!). Lura’s experiment took 21 tries so at the price of $.06/gem (someone said in a post) those 3 badges cost $15.42 (296 spent – 39 won = 257 x .06) I think they could have better spent time and expense coming up with better ways to make money that members would have been more than willing to pay for and felt satisfied with how their money was spent, a win-win on both sides, profit for the business and a satisfied customer. Back to the brainstorming stage, Pogo, to come up with something more feasible for your customers and profitable for you! Want ideas, ask your customers! Yes, you’ll get some unreasonable ones but there is usually at least a few inspirational ideas hidden among those.
One idea has been mentioned numerous times by posters here on BH, re-release all the older badges and albums so the newer members who have become badge hungry can get them. This would require a lot less manhours to do than this ‘magic’ promotion and profit Pogo. I’m not saying they would have to do a massive release of the older badges, just do so many a week or month until they have cycled through all of them to give everyone a chance to get them that don’t have them. A lot of the oldest ones were originally priced at less than the 16 gems they would charge for them now which is even more of a profit. This would satisfy some of the newer badge collectors which leaves Pogo with coming up with reasonable ideas for newer and older members both (key word – reasonable).
Pr Chris says
I tried the game, and took 4 turns. On the first turn, I got the badge which is my least favorite of the games (I don’t know why I expected anything else!). Turn 2 was a gem pack 2 gems. Turn 3 was a token pack: 7500 tokens; turn 4 was another gem pack of 2 gems. In the four turns, I spent 56 tokens for 1 game (that I don’t particularly enjoy, and probably wouldn’t have gotten in the regular releases, 4 gems, and 7,500 tokens. NOT WORTH the money. Apparently most of the gems packs are going to be very small. A question for Pogo or anyone…has ANYONE received more than 16 gems in a pack? Or is this automatically be a money loser? Now, if they had an occasional 25 or even 50 gems, then I might be interested, but not for 2, 4, etc. gems. Who in their right mind wants to spend 16 gems to get 2????? I’d rather spend the same time on one of the more token friendly games…7500 tokens wasn’t much–the cost of one mini, maybe.
I tried once; don’t think I’ll be back. WAY too expensive. Perhaps in the future I would take my first turn, betting that the badge I get 1/2 price is one I like. That will depend from week to week on what badges are offers. After that. Nope. I can wait a few weeks for the regular price.

Pr Chris #178 – I got 20 gems once, but overall it cost me a lot of gems. And if I hadn’t done the first card for 8 gems I would not have continued. I will not even do that in the future. I will wait until they are released normally.

BillTrout says
As the post notes, think of it as a half price discount for the first badge. Then, unless you are really a die hard collector and have more money than you know what to do with, just wait for them to be released normally 3 months later.
If I end up using this feature, that’s how I’ll play.
sirron1957 says
WOW, after reading quite a few comments I think it’s safe to say this is a huge failure for Pogo. Look at all the time they spent on setting it up and it appears nobody likes it and won’t be doing it after week 1.
Pogo should be concentrating on making our experience better, not more expensive. I’m not going to do this anymore, I’ll be more than happy to wait till they come out later.

Thanks to Lura for sacrificing her gems for all of us.
Sorry to Moms for having to play the game to keep your collection intact. I understand why you had to do it tho.
I buy badges on sale or retirement. Money issues (and lack of Pogo badge sales), made me start buying less games than I used to. So, I will not even be paying 8 gems for the first badge unless all three games are ones I would normally buy.
It is not a sale or a benefit to spend 8 gems on a badge you might hate.
Yes, Pogo is a business and I have avoided their other business “options.” But this one, seems completely wrong to me, like they think we are just completely stupid. Did no one on their end ever do the math in all those months of “development?” Either it is horrible that they didn’t realize what they were actually offering or it is horrible that they did and decided it was worth trying to rip off their loyal customer base.
Nothing magic about this – it is just a 3-card monte scam.

The same thing happened to me (see post #73). I just checked my Pogo home page and it still says, “unlock”. I clicked on unlock and it says I have “73 Cards Left – 16 gem buy a turn”. NO THANKS. I’ve been ripped off by Pogo for the last time! I don’t buy gems but I did do a survey to get some gems recently — that’s why I had 30 gems to begin with today. Hate that Pogo did that to me! π
And I liked Pogo very much before today.

I played one round for 8 gems to get one of the M&M badges.
I won’t play any further than that as I don’t believe it’s worth it.
π But…..Whaddya know? I WAS right about it being a card game of the “pick a card, any card” variety which gives you the chance to earn some sort of reward.

I only took one turn, 8 gems, to get the guaranteed badge. I was awarded the Jungle Gin badge. At that point, I STOPPED. LOL I plan to do this one transaction each time it is offered since it is 1/2 half the normal price. Happy gaming.

Lura, thank you for your experience breakdown. Big thanks to all who have tried this and posted about their experience already. After reading all the posts have decided it is not worth it. Pogo can keep their 8 gem badge and I will wait until a sale or bundle whichever comes first. I just donβt understand how Pogo thought this was a good idea. I have always and will continue purchasing our MnM badges and PBAβs when there has been a sale with the exception of the Limited Edition Badges.

#184 LadyfmTexas/MaryAnn….so you are saying, I think?, that you pushed the “Unlock” button on HomePage and Pogo charged you 16 gems for it? ’73 cards left’ means you have bought 2? If you paid again, then you paid 24 (8+16) gems for the first badge! ….. DOUBLE YIKES!!! That button should have Black/Yellow warning tape around it! Must warn my local Pogo friend, doesn’t read much here on BH…she’s an avid button pusher. I would be angry also. But it’s FAIR WARNING to all who read this!
Thanks again, Lura, for this wonderful BH page you’ve put so much into! Saves many of us time and money! And gives us info and wisdom!
A side note: I live about 30 miles north of Sarasota, home of Ringling Bros. Barnum Bailey Circus…..P.T. Barnum was famous for his saying that “There’s a Sucker Born Every Minute”…and I was raised with that knowledge. So, thanks to everyone who took the time to post. I, for one, appreciate you.

Just looking for some clarification here – has Pogo ever bundled a brand-new badge? I always thought the bundles were comprised of previously released and subsequently retired MMs.
Lura says
Kiki: just those 5 3-badge bundles were new badges. Look under 2013 here:
https://www.badgehungry.com/mix-n-match-badges/
Kiki says
Other than those seemingly extinct three-badge-for-one-game bundles that aren’t the five badge bundles, I should have said.
tarbotoo says
Well, I tried the Mix-n-Magic site.
1st turn- 8 gems – got the Jungle Gin badge
2nd turn- 16 gems- got a gem pack of 20
QUIT
So my badge only cost me 4 gems.
However my luck is usually nil so don’t see getting next week’s so cheap.
As I’m on a fixed income, I probably won’t do the second card again, just thought
I’d try it. Though it worked to my advantage this time the odds are totally against
me in future.
However I’ll settle for 1 half-price badge a week. Thank you POGO.
rabbitroserabbit says
As long as they don’t bundle them, I’ll be happy to wait. I wish I could use the tokens to get my card chances, and I know they aren’t going to do that.

So, I wonder.
Next week, will the first choice STILL be an automatic Mix badge for 8 gems, or will it become randomized.
If it is reset each week and the first one is automatically a Mix badge for 8 gems, then I will do it. If not, I will never do it again.

I agree %100 with Esque. I spent a ton of gems to get 1 badge and a bunch of tokens that I could have easily won by playing games. I think this is a total rip off. When Joe C posts and DOESN’T say:

Congrats RyzandShyn #185 on guessing it would be a pick a card game.

dizzysue1955 says
I used all of my gems because I didn’t how this game really worked. I thought if you choose a card you would win that prize. Pogo you didn’t give good instructions on how it was to be played. I played it on the 16, and lost all of my gems at once. you should have explained better.
oxfordstnboots says
Well as far as I’m concerned Lura posted the whole idea very clearly. Also pogo makes sure you are aware of what each try will cost so don’t know why so many are complaining about a ripoff. Yes I was hoping for something different but because I am cautious with my gems I am quite happy with what I got – 1 badge for 1/2 price.
dizzysue1955 says
I also won the free gem, free try and tokens but I only got the sweet tooth badge, I used 55 gems and got one badge. Pogo this is not fair at all, gems are hard to come by for some people. I will never play this one again. It truly is a rip off.

Gem Packs x34 –
Token Packs x 21 –
Free Turn – 9
This is what I got. How do you use them ?
Confused here. TY
MomsBassetHound says
Hapi #202 – The token packages and gem packages were added to your account the moment you turned the cards. I wrote down my token amount and gems before I started, and I got exactly what I turned up with the cards I played.
You would also be able to see the gems that you won and were added if you check your gem transaction history. There is no place to see the tokens. You would have had to write them down when you turned the cards.

After reading the terms of the “magic mix and match badge” terms I knew it would cost more gems then just waiting 3 months for them to come out. The only “magic” involved in this is how fast your gems disappear. This is just another ploy to make us spend more money on gems.

I figured two of the three badges were from games that I play on a pretty consistent basis so it would more than likely be a good deal…Luckily, I did end up with one of the two :)…lol. After that, though, I couldn’t justify trying out another turn for the amount of gems required…Maybe after Christmas…lol ;-). Thanks for posting all the info on here about this =).

Wow even reading how it works before trying it out I knew it was a ripoff. Why would I spend tons of gems to get 3 badges and worthless tokens when they are going to be offered again through the regular mix and match badges.
To the people that tested it out sorry about the loss of the gems.
The majority of the time when I purchase mix and match badges and premium album badges is when they have the black Friday sale. That is the only time I buy a whole lot of them. I list them on a spreadsheet and when the weekly challenges come up I can then activate a mix and match badge and premium badge to work on with my weekly challenge of the same type of badge.
Can’t wait for the black Friday sale to come.

After a day’s worth of reflection, I’ve had a strange and perverse thought! Indeed, Pogo has caused more chat & comment & socialization over the Mix&Magic badges than they had ever dreamed of creating over the “Social Sundays”….LOL!!! I cannot imagine what the postings in the Forums look like, but not curious enough to look.
Won’t be playing again, and I SURE won’t push that UNLOCK button. Hopefully, Suz #227, Pogo will “keep” their words and not be bundling these badges? for everyone’s sake. xxxCrossesFingersxxx. But don’t blame you for not playing again. I am just sorry that so many people got so little for their gems, and again thank Lura for her gem sacrifice, warnings and info.
Blessings, π DD

ddsrocks #232 – Actually the forums have not been as active as BH. But there are many reasons for that. On BH “almost” anything can be said, as long as the comments follow a few simple rules….no off topic, no comments in all caps, no offensive language, nothing aimed at a particular person. There could be a few more, but they are the main reasons that Lura would moderate a post.
I read the forums on a regular basis, as well as the Pogo FB wall. I don’t post all that often on the forums, and only on FB if I can answer a question that no one else has.
Wishing everyone a Happy Badge Day tomorrow!!

The idea is not to bad, but the pricing leaves a lot to be desired.
3 mix and match reg price is 48 gems. (if I have my math right)
If instead of 8 for the first pick and 16 for each one after, they should have a low cost of say 2 gems per turn with no guarantee of a badge with first play.
There are 75 picks but they state there are 10 free plays in the mix which brings the total down to 65 we are paying for.
At 2 gems each that would be 130 gems still more, but with the spins Lura had she would have come out 1 gem ahead if they were charging 2 gems per spin.
More might be willing to gamble on 2 gems and it would make the odds more even.
Just a thought

I think I have an explanation for the release of these Mix& Magic badges on February 23rd (not on 1st or 15th); these badges are not the same one than the ordinary Mix&Match badges.
That would make sense because they give a different name to these badges and they want to make more money
So, if Pogo make 3 Mix&Magic badges available each week, that makes 12 new badges per month; they would release 6 of them for regular buying (3 months later) on 8th and the last 6 ones would be released on 23rd
In this manner, there will be 24 new badges released every month
6 Mix&Match on 1st (as usual)
6 Mix&Magic on 8th (starting in March)
6 Mix&Match on 15th (as usual)
and 6 Mix&Magic on 23rd (starting in February)
So, I’am going to continue to buy the first Mix&Magic badge at 8 Gems (50% off regular price) every week
Pogo is not going to loose money in making bundles for these badges; it wouldn’t be rational, because that will make 3 months that people get incomplete bundles…and they want our money….
Final answer in february
AzScorpion3 says
Absolutely in full agreement with you Suz #227. I do NOT plan to get anymore of these at 1/2 price for the first one each week. In reflection I should not have purchased the first one this week. I WILL NOT trust Pogo that they won’t bundle them in the future. I would rather buy one of them at full price later than to jepodize having an uncompleted bundle. I just can’t believe all the negative respones to this program. I think Lura should forward these to Pogo.

I don’t like it they must think we have a lot of money to buy gems to get these badges. If I had a lot of money the ok but I don’t I can only buy gems once a month if I’m lucky too.

AzScorpion #236 – I don’t think Lura needs to forward anything. I’d bet my life that Pogo is reading all of this.
tina #237 – Just wait until February and you can just purchase them at their normal cost.

I did read every one comments but decide to try it anyway I got 1 badge buying for 8 gems that was not so bad .. but when it came to getting other badges like they want 16 gems each turn and you do not get them other things show up but not sure if I won gems or not I did get 2 free turns but with no luck never got any badges just cards turning say 1 gems or tokens I think this a way for Pogo get us to spend money getting more gems .. I have stop playing not wasting my money on something that Pogo came up .. good luck to every one who continue playing it … might have to rob a bank to get it or maybe not might be in jail b4 can get anything lol

#238 judyy IF I were you and I had NOT DONE ANYTHING I would NOT do anything ….I would wait until feburary and see if these 3 badges come out as a 3 bundle set, and then IF I wanted it I would buy it, unless of course you are a millionaire and have money to burn…reason I say that cause the 1st turn only cost 8 gems and you get a mix and match badge for 8 gems π sounds nice BUT if you want all 3 badges it could cost you 200 or 300 gems to get all 3 badges or even more, now IF we knew these badges were not going to be bundled I would say grab it BUT if come feb these 3 badges come out as a bundle and you own 1 it will not let you buy the bundle cause you have 1 already so you would be excluded from buying the bundle….and that’s what I look for them to do so IF you pay the 8 gems and get the 1 badge all you will be saving is 8 gems (less than 50 cents) or taking a chance on spending TONS of gems to get the other 2 badges cause at this point we DONT know if pogo will sell them single badges or in bundles and if they sell in bundles and you have 1 that’s is in the bundle you will not be able to buy the bundle so I would do nothing!! I sure wish I would have waited as I can not pay 100 gems for 3 badges much less take a chance of having to pay 300 or 400 gems just to get the other 2 badges for a just in case thing, I guess im trying to say is if I were in your shoes I would not do anything and wait till feb for the badges π good luck with what ever you decide, I sure wish I would have WAITED, just read all 238 posts most of which are HORROR stories of how many gems they had to spend just to not take a chance on missing out on a bundle or badge in order to keep their collection complete π <3 BIG HUGS boop

I can believe all the negative responses to this program simply because of the outrageous amount of gems (money) it has taken people to attempt to obtain these 3 badges. Those who have chose to give it a try have all reported they felt it was too costly and I understand their feeling that way because I agree with them. And I agree with Suz that someone at Pogo has read the comments on BH or if not they should be. People that post here tend to tell it like it is and I feel it is a good representation of the pulse of the whole Pogo membership so it would be in their best interest to read what is said here. The question that remains to be answered is whether they pay attention and remedy the situation of having so many displeased with this. I also think that it probably would not have been a bad idea for a promotion if they had not been so greedy with it. If they had made the price more reasonable to where you didn’t lose so much, people would probably have not been so upset and felt so cheated. People have reported losses of gems equalling around $40 trying this. Lura’s try at it to show an example to her readers cost over $15. Those costs are outrageous in my opinion for the reward of 3 badges and tokens. If they had made it so that you didn’t lose a crap load of gems (money) to win the badges, this post would not have over 200 comments already with 99% of them negative (will give them a generous 1% for 1 or 2 positive, maybe). Just about everyone that decided to try it once has said they wouldn’t again, so if they hold true, Pogo gains little if only a few participate hereafter because of the high cost. But if they had made it where most only lost a couple dollars, they would have blown it off as bad luck and thought it fun trying to win the badges early with this and tried again next time. Seems to me you would gain more in the long run that way. But just my opinion, maybe I’m wrong in my thinking, but I do know they won’t be getting my gems trying this other than maybe the first 8 for a badge, I’ll wait and buy the others later where I know for sure what I’m getting for my gems. Not willing to chance using my gems to win tokens with my luck.

WilliamPorygon #48:
I am in complete agreement with you.
How these badges will NOT get Pogo classified as a gambling site is beyond me because this new scam is exactly what that is. People are betting money (gems) on a chance at winning something. This is no different than going to a casino, buying chips with real money to play poker and sitting down at a table and getting cleaned out. Pogo has officially put a monetary value on tokens here, IMO since they are one of the “prizes”. They have been paid for with gems so that means they now have value. In my eyes, they can no longer tell members that tokens have no value as they themselves have just given value to them.
I am also very much in agreement with you, WilliamPorygon, on your stance on EA. I have not spent a single penny on any EA property in years. I used to be an avid supporter of the Sims franchise. That stopped with the Sims 2. If I cannot win gems on Peanut Labs (which I rarely even try anymore) I just go without them as I refuse to purchase them. Between Subway and Coke Rewards I have several years of time left on my two Pogo accounts and when that time is up, I will not be paying to renew my subscriptions. However, to be frankly honest, I think the time I have left on my accounts will long outlive Pogo as I don’t see Pogo having years and years ahead of them. I love playing Plants vs. Zombies but once EA got a hold of PopCap, even that is ruined. I have the first edition of the game on my computer and play it every single day but I will not buy the second.
EA/Pogo prove more and more each day just how much they do not appreciate their customers. Every single customer is simply a credit card number to them. They don’t care about providing fun and unique gaming experiences anymore it’s all about raking in as many dollars as possible at the expense (literally and figuratively) of the customer.
I truly feel sorry for the members who got in way over their heads with this Mix & Magic nonsense and lost so many of their hard earned or paid for gems before realizing just how much it was costing them. Pogo should be ashamed of themselves for concocting this scheme.
If Pogo and EA are so desperate for money they need to go back to doing what they used to: put out high quality games that actually work, that won’t cause problems or damage to the end users machines, that won’t cause the end user to have to spend hours, days or weeks going back and forth with horrible customer service just to get a game to work (if they ever do get it to work), listen to their members complaints, suggestions and hopes, stop charging customers for what they have already paid for and stop blaming every problem on the end user. If they improve the quality and show that they actually care and the customers they have lost might just start to come back and new customers might not stop and think twice before jumping on board and realize spending money with EA/Pogo just isn’t worth it.

I am really confused. I spent lots of gems and got all three badges, and finished one, but can not activate the others. Why?
MomsBassetHound says
Jennifer #244 – I agree with some of what you said, but not all of it.
I will continue with Pogo, and purchase every badge available until 1 of 2 things happen….Pogo is no longer here, or I’m no longer here.
I am not a computer whiz, but I’ve never had a problem with any of the games. I make sure that all my updates are done, empty the caches and temp internet files on a daily basis, and don’t ever change any of my computer settings b/c someone says it will save me from having to make 1 extra click.
I make sure I only download my updates from the source….Microsoft for Window 7 updates, Oracle for Java, and Adobe for Flash. I never update them from an outside source. I’ve never had an update do any damage to my computer, nor have I ever had anything I did on Pogo damage my computer.
As far as the gems I spent yesterday getting all 3 badges…..I blame myself as much as I blame Pogo. Had I thought about the possibility of a bundle I would not have spent the 8 gems for the first badge. It was then MY decision not to risk my complete collection and play until I won the other 2. I will NOT play the game next Monday, or any Monday after that. I will just chalk up what I spent to a learning experience.

I tried about 60 gems worth and ended up winning two badges. This is not for me, I will wait as Pogo has enough things to spend gems on. So many of you have said it all so well. This is an EPIC FAIL! Pogo should take down this promo ASAP if for nothing else than the “gems for tokens” aspect. If so many “seasoned” players here have been gullible enough to fall for this though, I wonder how many unsuspecting members out there in Pogoland are still falling prey to this.

I read through the comments, and I’m a little confused by one issue raised, so I’m hoping someone can clarify this for me:
So, from what I read, a fear is that Pogo might decide to bundle the 3 weekly Mix and Magic badges together. This would mean that if someone got only 1 or 2 of them through playing the card game they would be “locked out” of getting the other(s)
since we can’t buy a bundle if we one already own 1 or more of the badges in the bundle.
But, Pogo has indicated that they have no intentions of bundling them at this time.
But, people don’t trust that this intention will hold up over time?
But…..why would they do that? If the intention is to make money from these badges, why wouldn’t they offer the 3 of them at a later date as single Mix and Match badges as they stated they would? Bundling would prevent sales.
And….don’t you think they are already making a profit from the sheer number of players who have purchased 1 badge for 8 gems? If this is a weekly event and people continue to take a chance to get 1 of the 3 at 8 gems, don’t you think Pogo is realizing a huge increase in sales/profit each week?
I would imagine that if people continue to hand over 8 gems each week for 1 badge, they’re seeing an immediate increase in sales.
LisaMarie says
This was my experience:
Turn 1 – Sweet Tooth badge
Turn 2 – 7,500 Tokens
Turn 3 – 2 Gems
Turn 4 – 7,500 Tokens
Figured that I was going to spend more that it was worth, so I stopped. In the future, I will play turn 1, as we are guaranteed a badge for 8 gems, but I will wait for the other badges.
MomsBassetHound says
Nancy #253 – I love my Pogo, but I no longer trust what is said, for a lot of reasons. The employees that are there are told things that aren’t always true. It may be true at the time, but if the PTB change their minds Pogo has no other option than to do it.
If all the people that purchase the M&M badges only do the 1st card for 8 gems they have effectively lost an 8 gems on that badge. If there are 100,000 (random number) that only spend 8 gems Pogo has lost 800,000 gems from the regulars. They will make some of that up from the people that don’t buy all the badges and go after the badge that is guaranteed. And they also made some on the people that took more than 1 card this week. But I think that come next week that you will not be seeing “most” people buy more than the 1st card.
The thing that concerned me most about Pogo possibly selling them as a bundle is b/c they keep referring to them as a set, and also b/c the release date is scheduled for 2/23, not a normal release date for M&M badges. I’m hoping that they do not do this for the first 3 b/c of the people who did purchase the 1 and stopped. Once I thought it thru I was sorry that I had taken the 1st card and the 1st badge. I then made the decision that I wouldn’t risk my complete collection for a couple hundred gems, so I continued until I won all 3 badges. That was my personal decision, and I take full responsibility for the gems I spent. But I will not make that mistake again. It’s not worth it to me to take a chance to save 50 cents, just isn’t.
But this is just my opinion, and I honestly hope I’m wrong.

Suz #255 –
Thanks for your insight on it. I can better understand how people who collect all the badges and even those who would want all 3 from any given weekly set would be hesitant to play for 1 each week for 8 gems.
Looks like they painted themselves into a corner – people who want all 3 will wait to buy them when they are released at the later date rather than spend the ridiculous amount of gems needed to get all 3 in the card game and other people might continue to just lay out just 8 gems to grab 1 of the 3 in the card game.
Maybe they are banking on the fact that more people will get “into” M&M badges this way so that those who didn’t buy them before will begin to buy them.
I’m sure I don’t know WHAT they were thinking..lol..so many people feel ripped-off.
J says
I honestly don’t see these coming out as a bundle in Feb. If I recall, most, if not all of the previous bundles were re-released badges, not brand new badges. Those who bought badges when they first came out weren’t affected. Only those who came into the game later and might have purchased one in a previous re-release.
Let’s just say, I pretty much started on MixnMatch near the beginning, therefore I have never been able to buy the bundles that included re-released badges, since I had already completed them much early on.
Technically speaking, these badges have not been released for purchase. This has been set up as optional offer to access badges earlier than scheduled for release.
And considering Pogo is only out to make money from us, they would lose out a lot of money (gems) if released in a bundle form, since they have to be aware by now, that a good percentage of players did NOT pay out past the first badge. That huge group of people wouldn’t be able to buy the bundle, hence loss of money.
However, what I do see happening, if this joke of an offer doesn’t get pulled soon, is that Pogo will see how many people are only paying out the 8 gems for the first turn and not spending beyond that. Once they realize we turned the tables on them, they will no longer have that first turn a guaranteed badge. I can easily see them changing that to make people keep spending gems just to get even one badge.
If that happens, I can honestly say I won’t spend my gems on that. Keeping my collection intact is not that important to me, not at that cost.
Based on all I’ve seen from comments of what some people have said, I’ve figured that a great deal of people spent $25-$30 to get all 3 badges. Some people have spent $40-$50 for the badges. $40 gets me approx 34 MnM badges, not 3.
I will still continue to pay the 8 gems for the first turn and a guaranteed badge. If that ends, I’m done with that deal.

just finished reading all the comments posted here. IMO, #177 by Jen and #244 by Jennifer should be read by all pogo players and all pogo managers. Not sure if you are the same person, but if so if pogo should hire you yesterday, if possible.
I being when pogo is talking about bundles for these badges, or the possibility of bundles for them, that they are talking about the bigger bundles. Not the 3 badge bundles that occurred at one time, but the 5 badges bundles of badges from one game. Like the I love word whomp or I love tri-peaks bundles. At least that is my hope now that I have one badge in this set and also a complete set of mix and match. The Feb. 23rd date has me worried a bit though. Would be nice if pogo Would address this, especially if they are reading this forum and can see how many people are upset and wondering about this new promotion.

Thank you #214 and #215 for your help in getting the Jungle Gin badge. Badge Hungry people are the best !
J says
Moms, that’s my exact point. Most bundles were previously released badges, more of an incentive to players new to Mix n Match badges. Those of us that got in early with MnM couldn’t buy them, since for the most part, we had already completed them, at least I did.
The newer bundles were just that, never released badges, offered in a bundle form, which I was able to buy.
These badges have not been released in an individual form. If Pogo decides to release these in bundle form in Feb, far too many people will be unable to buy them and Pogo loses bigtime. We all know they aren’t all the bright but when it comes to money and greed, they are highly qualified.
I still stand by my original prediction. I give it less than two weeks before they change the first turn/play, if this doesn’t get pulled before that. By next week, 99% of people playing will only pay the half price of 8 gems for a guaranteed badge. Pogo doesn’t make a profit, Pogo changes the rules, just as they stated in their description of this fiasco.
Per Pogo…..EA reserves the right to cancel, suspend or modify Mix-n-Magic at any time in its discretion.

My question……did they ever allow anyone to comment? Odd if they didn’t since I’ve usually seen comments posted on other posts, even if for only a short time, or even unable to add a comment, swore you could at least read what has been posted.
Me thinks Pogo didn’t want unsuspecting players to understand what was at stake before they played, so never allowed any comments.
One other question……has anyone gone to EA to make complaints??????

#260-v, I am Jen of #177 but am not the same person as Jennifer of #244, ty for the recommendation…though I don’t think I would last long since my ideas don’t seem to fit with their business prospectives these days…lol, like to think I try to do things a little more common sense wise though I probably don’t succeed much with that…lol and my mouth would get me into trouble real quick:)
For those asking why would they release these in a bundle instead of individually as some fear because it would not make a financially sound decision to do so, well, past experience is leading this fear since people have been asking for the badges included in those bundles they are excluded from purchasing since they already own at least one in it to be released individually for some time now. Pogo still has not done so though that would net them sales from all those badges. Badges that have already been developed so there should be less expense involved with releasing them. Seems to me that would be a gain of revenue there. Why? I haven’t heard anyone that has been able to give a good reason to answer that. In my opinion, Pogo does not listen well to their customers and give them what they have stated over and over that they are willing to spend on. Why not do that to gain from the sale of what people have said they are willing to buy while you are also trying to come up with ideas for future sales in the meantime?? I must be missing something there in my train of thinking. And Pogo has in the past said things then later done them opposite so that is why people don’t trust that these may not be released as a bundle too even though it would lose them sales of individual badges. It is already happening now.
Moms: Once the first mention of the ‘magic’ promotion happens in the LTE comments and it goes the way this thread has, how much are you willing to bet me that the comments make it to being open for the full 24 hours??
MomsBassetHound says
Jen #266- It has been mentioned in the comments, and Bret even responded. It wasn’t a correct response, but he tried. He told the person to check their token history instead of their gem transaction record. But I just think his fingers were moving faster than they should have. If I had $1 for every time I used a wrong word I’d be a billionaire….LOL
If they close down the comments early I think that would only add fuel to the fire, but Pogo does some strange things some days.

MomsBassetHound says
ylterri #272 – No, you did get what you won. The INSTANT that you picked the card your gem or token balance was increased by what you won. If you were watching the cards to see what you won you wouldn’t see your tokens or gems changing.
I wrote down my tokens and gems before I started. I wrote down everything I won. And when it was over I had received every token and gem.
You can check your gem transaction history. Go into your account, click on billing, and you will see the link for gem transactions. It will take a few minutes to load.

redstar #275 – The gems are added the second you pick a card. Since you are looking to see what you won you don’t see them added, but they are added immediately.
You can check your gem transaction history to see how many you won. But a gem pack can consist of only 1 gem. To see your gem transaction history you have to sign into your account, click on the billing, and you will see the link for gem transaction history. It usually takes a few minutes to load.

Tyvm for ur reply Suz, but still only have 16 gems. Ive spent so much overall for just one badge, think it’s a rip off. Like I said, Ive played 5 or 6 times & got a badge, tokens and a few “gem packs” that aren’t given to me…I’ve signed out, back in, restarted my computer & used 2 diff browsers. I don’t get it. Spent a total of almost 90 gems..

redstar #277 – I can guarantee you that you got the gems you won.
You need to sign into “my account”, to the right of where you sign out.
I wrote down my gem and token totals before I started. I went thru 38 cards and every single thing that I won was added in immediately. If I hadn’t kept track like I did I would not know this. But I kept a list of what I won each time and when I was done every was correct….the gems I spent and the gems I won, the tokens that I won, and the badges that I won.
The game may not be a winning proposition for anyone, but it doesn’t cheat you out of what you turned up in the cards.

redstar #277 – One more thing.
Each card cost you 16 gems to turn over. If you won a 1 gem pack, you would still be minus 15 gems.
And if you won tokens you would be out 16 gems for that card.
It doesn’t take long to go thru 90 gems on that game, even after your winnings.

After reading all the reviews , think I’ll pass …..A glitche to get more of the hard earned gem dollars…They musta not be selling the regular Mix & Match as they like….Which I quit buyin long ago…Jus to many of them…Purely IMO

I had to try this new mix and match magic and am real disappointed in it….. cost me over 200 gems and I only won 2 of the new badges …… tried once will not do again …..like everyone is saying it is worth the 8 gems for the first m&m badge but that is the only good thing….wasting 16 gems to win 1 gem or 2 is really a rip off…..pogo needs something better
Jon C says
I spent 8 gems which is Boggle Bash Badge
Gavin says
This is not worth all I got is 1 badge & a 8 gems pack then you gotta spend 16 gems for another turn & nothing
Judy says
The only way this is beneficial to anyone is to get the one badge for 8 gems and quit and hope it is the one you want. So far I’ve got one I want and one I hated that I’m now stuck with. The very first time I played I must have lost 300 gems. Won’t ever do that again!

I began to think about it. If I were to get 3 Mix and Magic badges a week for 52 weeks, that would equal 156 badges. However, if I were to get 12 Mix and Match a month for the same one year period of 12 months, I would have 144 badges?
Are they going to offer more Mix and Magic badges then Mix and Match in a one year period? If so, is there any way in which I or any other players would be able to tell which ones won’t come up for Mix and Match?

My personal opinion on this is its a total rip off. I spent a ton of gems and won very very little in return. I could have bought these 3 badges for 48 gems at there regular release date. I think its a rip off that pogo charges us gems to play this and then puts tokens in as one of the things we can win knowing full well that the tokens cannot be used to buy badges with. this is suppose to be for early release of badges which pogo tokens has absolutely nothing to do with the price we pay for a badge. it smacks of deliberate and deceitful fraud by pogo that we would be charged gems for early release of badges and get pogo tokens instead. Pogo has told us dozens of times tokens cannot be used for badges, that being said why are tokens being included in with early release of badges that cost gems?
MomsBassetHound says
rob #286 β And that is why some, myself included, are not playing at all. We will just wait for the 3 of them to be released.
And there are quite a few that only do the 1st card for 8 gems, a 50% discount.
There are very few that play for all 3 badges, that was after we all learned our lesson on week #1.

Rob #286, i agree whole heartedly with every thing you said. I will add that i was personally sick and appalled to see pogo tokens be included in this. Pogo deliberately included pogo tokens in with this as a way to get us to buy another turn and spend more gems in hopes of getting the badge . If pogo truely wanted to make the badges available to us early, they could have simply increased the price of the badge to 20 gems instead of 16 gems to get the badges early. But instead pogo got greedy and used deceitful tactics to get gems from us for worth less tokens knowing full well tokens do not have even remotely any thing to do with the price we pay for a badge. I personally think and feel pogo may have did this on purpose and with malice intended just to get its members to buy gems and waste them on tokens and free turns instead of being for the badges and there early release. This was advertised as : early access to POGO MIX N MATCH CHALLENGES, NOT POGO TOKENS!
MomsBassetHound says
But if anyone read Lura’s post above they knew what was included in the deck, and how many gems it took her to get the 3 badges.
Once you knew that it was up to the individual to play OR not.
Pogo offers options. It’s up to the individual to choose the ones that they was to take part in. Pogo didn’t say that everyone had to play.
Someone took an informal poll on BH last Monday, or the week before. The majority took 1 card for 8 gems. And there were more that didn’t participate at all than went for the 3 badges. I think there was only 1 or 2 that went for all 3 badges every week.
