iOS App Update Now Available, But Don’t Update Yet

October 16, 2014

Update 11/14/2014: this information is now outdated. The problems described below have been resolved with the update to version 1.2.5 of the Pogo Games App.

Pogo Games App IconAn update is now available for the iOS Pogo Games app as of October 15th, but it’s recommended at this point that you do not update the app yet because the app is not allowing signed-in Club Pogo players to play for badges.

If you have updated, do not pay to upgrade your membership. Pogo_Cactuar has given the following instructions: “The process of linking your Club Pogo account to the app has now changed. You will need to scroll to the bottom of this screen where you will see an ‘Update Membership’ button. You then need to click it, login with your iTunes password and then you should be good-to-go. All of the info is included above this button.” Players have been reporting they are unable to replicate success with this.

Additonally, Pogo_Cactuar confirms: “You will not be charged. You will be linking your Pogo account to the itunes account, which will stop the prompt asking for 2.99 to play for badges or no longer see ads.”

If you updated the app and are stuck with the “Upgrade to Earn Badges” message, you can still earn badges. Just play the required game, keep count of your own requirements, and when you have completed enough, log out of the app. When you log back in, your Pogo.com account will have the badge.

If you have purchased the $2.99/£1.99 ad removal/upgrade to earn badges, you can request a refund by reporting the problem via iTunes. You will need to log in to your account and find the invoice ID number. (Thanks Storm!)

Update 10/17: see the comments for some great tips and more updates. The short version of the updates is: don’t update the app, and if you already did, don’t repurchase the upgrade. Pogo is working on it.

Thanks to Caren for spotting the ‘official’ response deep in Pogo’s forums!

If you don’t have iTunes downloaded to a PC or Mac, you can still access your App Store purchases using the following link:

    https://reportaproblem.apple.com

You will need to click on the App tab, then find the Pogo Games App and click the “Report a Problem” button located on the right-hand side. I selected “Problem Not Listed” and then enter the reason for the refund in “Describe this problem”. This will be the ONLY way to acquire a refund, which will be issued by Apple and not EA/Pogo.com.

Once you have submitted the request you will received an automated email with the following message:

“An iTunes Store representative will review your request and should send you a personal response within 24 hours.”

I enter my iTunes log in info, it spins for a second, then I get the message “Unable to Update No previous purchase was found”. Very frustrating.

Getting the same message as everyone else “Unable to Update , No previous purchase was found” . Umm so who do we contact POGO or Apple for this new problem? Happy Thursday everyone!

I am in fine and earned badge. Knowing how itunes works with apps already purchased I did select the upgrade option and entered my itunes details. You then get a message saying transaction canceled.

Everything works fine and I cannot see any glitches…yet

Getting the same message, unable to update no previous purchase was found, no way I’m paying the $2.99!! Am a Club Pogo member to.

I, too, am receiving the same message about not being able to update because I hadn’t purchased it before. It took several tries before it would accept my Apple password, but it did eventually, so I recommend trying that, if you can’t get it accepted the first few tries. Doesn’t help that it did finally accept that, since I got the message it won’t update to the new version.

Oh well, I have a really old iPhone (3G? maybe) that my daughter gave me 3.5 years ago after I had an accident and was in a huge leg cast……..that was hers and she was getting a newer one. You know it’s old when you hit a general “update” and nothing happens, lol.

Doug #11 – You can still do them on the current Pogo games app. I didn’t take the updated app and I just finished my weekly badge.

Suznsun #12 – It’s not just for iPads, look under the iPhone apps. On the iPad you have to hit the X2 to make it fit the screen.

    October 16, 2014 at 7:53 pm

Thank you Suz, but none of the apps will show me Pogo Games. Not even for an iPhone. I’ll call Apple tech support and see what they have to say. Funny but I just checked and even though I have Pogo Games on my iPod it will not pull it up.

  18. Esqué says

    October 16, 2014 at 8:06 pm

I wish they would just stop these badges. Such a pain. I luckily didn’t update my ipod and iphone, so I’ve been able to get the badges. If they’re not going to make these badges available like the other weekly badges, I think it’s a disservice to us all. As a badge fanatic, I feel I’m being held hostage for this basically inoperable system.

  19. Brenda M. says

    October 16, 2014 at 10:40 pm

I got mine this week just like I always do on the current app. Why is this such a problem?

  20. MomsBassetHound says

    October 16, 2014 at 10:46 pm

Brenda #19 – If you didn’t update the Pogo games app it’s not a problem. I haven’t done the update and got my badge also.

But anyone that updated to iOS 8 when it came out hasn’t been able to open the app b/c it wasn’t compatible. Now there is an updated app that is compatible, but it wants to charge $2.99 in order to access the weekly badge.

According to the message posted in the forums by Pogo Cactaur there shouldn’t be a charge, but I haven’t read of anyone that updated that is able to play for the weekly badge without paying.

I did enter my itunes details and made the purchase. You then get a box appear (I think it said transaction voided as already purchased) then everything is fine.

However, I appreciate others may be experiencing something different but it did work fine for me and I have the page and have no issues at all.

Ed #24 – All I can tell you is that is exactly what I’m doing until this all gets fixed. And I don’t see why it won’t.

My iPad works without the OS update, so why wouldn’t the Pogo app that has worked for almost 3 years not work?

I haven’t updated or upgraded for anything, I use the I-phone and mine is working fine. In fact I am not getting those annoying ads any more that were popping up constantly. I still have to sign in with the password first, but as long as it works I’m good to go. Good luck to y’all that are having trouble, hope it gets fixed for you soon.

Wow, I just now opened the games app and a new thing came up from pogo wanting to know my age then you have to hit enter. I do have a thing at the bottom asking if I am a club member, but I payed no attention to it and just signed in and that is now fixed to put in screen name first then password. But it is asking me to upgrade for the ad free play…. so now the annoying ads are BACK until I upgrade. But I can still play the games for now. I will not do the upgrade yet til I know it is completely fixed. Boy one thing after another with pogo lately lol.

I am a Club Pogo member.

I had purchased it before but was NOT charged this time and all games are working fine with no glitches at all.

Mike: ahh that makes sense! Club Pogo members don’t have to purchase the app. Since you purchased the app upgrade in the past, Cactuar’s instructions worked for you.

  29. Caren says

    October 17, 2014 at 12:37 pm

I read this on the forum:

For the people not with IOS 8 who updated their app and have their apps backed up on their computer in iTunes:

“Restoring from an iTunes backup solved my problem. I deleted the app from my phone. Then I connected to iTunes and re-installed from there. (It said the last update was from after I did the update yesterday, but I tried it anyway.) I had to login again. All my settings are gone (no sound, etc…) and the high score charts have been cleared, but I can do badges and I still have the World Class Solitaire from the update. Best of all, no ADS.”

I haven’t tried this myself yet.

  30. Caren says

    October 17, 2014 at 1:15 pm

    From answers.ea.com – EA_Najat:

    “UPDATE – 17 October 2014

An update for Pogo’s iPhone is available, however it is not properly recognizing past purchasers of the ad-free upgrade process.

This also prevents Badges from being won.
Do not repurchase the ad-removal upgrade and please await further instructions.

If you do not have iOS 8, there is no need to update at this time.”

  31. Rick says

    October 17, 2014 at 3:26 pm

Ok, so I did not update to iOS 8, but app center did automatically update the app.

I am a club member and I have completed almost all the weekly badges. I never paid for the app, but I am a premium member.

To protect my account, I have in-app purchases turned off. So it gives me an error. But the. It says, “no previous purchases found” with the option to update membership.

Should I turn the in-app purchases on and update or should I wait? I am confused.

Thanks for the input. This is why I love this site and why I always come here first!

    • Lura says

      October 17, 2014 at 4:28 pm

Rick: you should wait for Pogo to fix their app. Don’t purchase anything. If you’re really desperate to get the badges you could purchase and request a refund from iTunes when the app is fixed, but I guess there’s always the chance they won’t give you a refund for whatever reason.

  32. Caren says

    October 17, 2014 at 4:37 pm

I tried what I said in #20 and it worked. First I turned off auto updates under Settings iTunes & App Store. Then I dragged the icon for Pogo from iTunes to the iPad picture on the left. Now I’m back to what I had earlier in the week and can get the badges.

  33. Storm says

    October 18, 2014 at 4:17 am

Further to comment #3, here’s the reply from Apple:

“Thank you for contacting iTunes Store Customer Support.

It is my understanding that you should not be charged £1.99 (depending on location) to have the Ads removed from the application “Pogo Games” because you already have a membership to it. I can imagine how concerned you are about this issue. Be rest assured that I will do my best to address this concern for you.

I have reviewed the circumstances of your case and refunded the In-App purchase. In this case, issuing a refund is an appropriate exception to the App Store Terms and Conditions, which state that all sales are final.

You will see a store credit on your account for £1.99 within 48 hours. You may need to sign out of the iTunes Store and then sign back in before you see the credit in your iTunes Store account.

By the way, I also suggest that you contact the App Developer, Electronic Arts, to make sure that you will still not receive the Ads. Here is the link to contact the App Developer, Electronic Arts, directly:

    http://help.pogo.com

I hope that I was able to help relieve your worries about this charge. If you need further assistance or if you have issues or questions that you wanted to raise, please do not hesitate to let me know. I will be very happy to assist you further as I want you to have the best possible experience with the iTunes Store.”

I’ve checked my iTunes account and the credit is already there. So just incase anyone did purchase the “upgrade”, follow the steps in comment #3 to obtain a refund. Depending on how you paid (normally for me it’s credit card, but I happen to have iTunes credit from a gift card) that will determine how the refund is issued.

Thanks for your help Suz. I guess my concern is that if Pogo updates the app to work with IOS 8, it may no longer work with IOS 7. I have no intention at this point of upgrading to IOS 8; perhaps I misunderstand that 2 versions of the Pogo app will continue to be available?

  35. MomsBassetHound says

    October 18, 2014 at 12:17 pm

Ed #37 – Both apps won’t be available to download, but as long as you haven’t updated to iOS 8 the old app will work just fine. I won’t update to the new operating system or the new app, but I only use my iPad for the Pogo games app.

    Suz

  36. Storm says

    October 18, 2014 at 12:54 pm

The latest version of the Pogo Games App (1.2.4) is only compatible with iOS 5.1.1 or above and is optimised for iPhone 5. You can select to download an older version of the App if required, but this will be dependant on your device capability.

OK I read all the comments and I don’t know which ones apply but here is my case. I have an iPhone 5 and I upgraded the ios to 8.0.2 and my pogo was no longer working. I did see an update for pogo in the applications so I updated my pogo and yes it charged me 2.99 to be able to use it with no ads. I contacted iTunes and got my order # and filed a complaint. They answered back within 24 hours stating my 2.99 was being refunded to me and this new Pogo works just great. It even fixed the old sign in problem where you had to enter your password and then your username. That is fixed and I did the weekly badge on the phone and all is well. MY new iPhone 6 is on the way. Thanks.. Roger

  42. Caren says

missymiss1000 #44: That was the state I was in. If you have iTunes on your computer, you probably have a backup of the Pogo app on there.

First delete the app from your iPhone/iPad.
Turn off auto update on your iPhone/iPad.
Open iTunes and don’t update the apps on the computer.
Connect to the computer to copy the app back to your iPhone/iPad.

See what I wrote in 30 and 35.

I know its a pain that pogo isn’t recognizing you as a pogo member but it does still let you get the badge without paying to get rid of the ads and get the weekly challenge to show. I was able to earn the badge today. I kept count on my own which was a pain. I noticed it was letting me play world solitaire which supposedly only unlocks as a club pogo member. I figured if its letting me play that then why not for the badge…lol. I kept count and checked on pogo with my computer and at first it wasn’t there. Then I noticed my token count didn’t match with what was on my app to the computer. I logged out of the app and back in and token count matched and my badge was there!!!
