NewTesting at Pogo: What's HOT Box

Pogo has replaced the graphical Flash animations that announced sales, news, and new releases on the Club Pogo home page with a “What’s HOT” box that rotates the same kind of information about Pogo happenings.

Here’s what the feature area looks like now:

This change hopefully is so Pogo can announce news and information without having to rely upon a graphic designer to create a Flash banner image for it. In addition, it takes up less space so the list of your “Stuff” and games are higher up on the page and require less scrolling to get to.

Update: it appears Pogo was just testing this change and they have decided to revert back to the normal, graphical banners.

  1. I like it better because as you mentiones Lura, it takes less space and guess the Home page will load faster.

    And I say “guess” because mine is still showing the old animations.
    I have refreshed several times, went to badge central and back to Home, friends list and back again and so on, and every times it shows the old format. So strange hmmm

  3. Nessa – its only the US site that has this new feature – so I’m guessing you are on the UK one.

  4. i liked the animated banner, it caught your attention,this new one looks a lil on the generic side, but hey, whatever works!! 🙂

  5. I think its better because hopefully, they can let you know if there are issues going on at Pogo that we need to know about quickly. I can’t think of anything specifically but I know there have been times. I will kinda miss the little animations tho…

  6. Mine still hasn’t changed either. That is strange, some have it and others don’t. I wonder if it has to do with the browser that one is using. I did as Nessa – in refreshing and going back and forth, to no avail.

  8. I also still have the old Flash animations just like nessa, and have even tried logging out and back in, its strange cause everyone else that I have talked to from my friends list has the new “Whats Hot” box.

  9. nessa #1 – I don’t see the new box either.

    I like the new idea. Anything that takes up less space is an improvement!

  11. Like the change, hopefully will also see messages when things go wrong. I do NOT enjoy all of EA’s Advertising. Club Pogo members aren’t supposed to get advertising, EXception is anything that EA has for sale or wants to push.

  16. I think the old graphic looked better. However, if it does indeed keep members informed of issues, then it is a good change.

  18. I like it and hope they will use it for info on glitches, etc. “Breaking News”
    would be great… we’d all see it immediately.

  19. I think this is like many of the site tweaks, where they roll it out incrementally. Some players will see the new feature, some still have the old. They’ve done this with other cosmetic changes.

    I’m still seeing the old, and I think I prefer it. It better catches my attention. But I know I will acclimate to the new, I always do.

  20. This is my first comment here at BadgeHungry, yay me?! I figured it was about time to come out of my little corner, and I even got started on the Badge Tracker. I found out about this site around 2 years ago, if I remember correctly, and I check here before I even login to Pogo. Thank you Lura for such a helpful place to come to!! <3

    I also am still seeing the old Flash version of the information box (yep, I live in and use the USA Pogo site), even after a complete file/cache clear and turning my puter off and on again. I normally play at Pogo on FireFox, but did login using Google Chrome to see if it could be browser related, but it apparently is not. I look forward to seeing the new Hot Box.

  23. I will kind of miss the animations, I found it interesting and caught my eye more. This will be easy to overlook and not pay attention to. But on the plus side, it does take up less space and should help with faster loading…which are both good things to me.

  25. i like the new version. i have two names, (not technically because one is a friends name) and mine has the new version, and i switched into his name and his is the old version.. so go figure. same browser.. same computer, live in the same area .. same house for that matter, for 4 months… so its just a pogo thing. im sure it will all be sorted out and we will all end up seeing the same thing. 🙂 have a great week everyone

  26. I hate it – Doesn’t catch my attention at all. I would much prefer the pictures and animation. The entire Club Pogo homepage pretty much stinks though, in my opinion.

  28. i dont know but firefox shows the new format but ie had the old for me, havent tried the other browsers

  29. I liked the old version better. It caught my eye. This one (in my opinion) looks too much like an error message.

  31. I do not like the change at all. The animation is not necessary, but a colorful attention getting background would have been nice. Right now it’s so easy to ignore. I don’t think regular Pogo players will even notice the change.

    hope it stays on it’s old look! Or i may not to be resubing! Sick of the changes that aren’t good!

  36. I hope Pogo stick to the old way of the graphics,
    just a plain old banner looks dull and the graphics are much better on the banners

  37. Looks like I’m in the minority that don’t like it…I mean, I really don’t! Maybe that means I’m more a visual person or something…but it totally doesn’t catch my eye either, like some others have stated. It’s like it’s camouflaged with all the other boxes on the home page. Sure, it’s smaller, might make the page load quicker, which I see the improvement in that…but at least add SOME kind of graphic to it…even if it’s not animated…sheesh! Us visual people who can’t read won’t know what’s going on…hahah! (>_<)

  39. Back to the old way for me today also. Guess Pogo is having issues. I kind of liked the new sleek look.

  40. I still have not seen the new version on mine. Looks like there are mixed reviews though.

  41. Me too…6/04 was the new minimalist box and today 6/05 it’s back to the old graphical ads. They’re working on it I guess. 🙂
