It’s Tuesday again and that means it’s Tips Day! Each Tuesday we’ll be showcasing one of Pogo.com’s games and collecting your tips, insights, and hints for playing the games, earning more tokens in them, and earning their badges more easily.
Let’s talk about Jungle Gin! There are 50 Jungle Gin ranks, and you can earn a total of five badges as you rank up. The weekly, premium, and mix-n-match badges available for Jungle Gin are for these types of challenges:
* Win X hands
* Win X hands IN A ROW
* Win X 300-point (500-point or 700-point) matches
* Score X gin points
* Go gin X times
* Underknock your opponent X times
* Win X hands of Oklahoma Gin
We’ve got a few tips already, but please share your tips for ranking up and completing these badges easier and faster in a comment below! Thank you!

My tip to win/rank up is to play either with a friend who will let you win or alone with a bot. Choose the “don’t allow knocking” option, so you have to get gin to win. Most bots will lose with this option clicked.

I always play Oklahoma Gin when I play gin. The first card turned over is what determines the knock limit. So if a 3 is turned over first you have to have 3 or fewer points to knock. Also if the first card turned over is a spade you will receive double points for a gin or for a knock. That is where you can get a lot of points.
If you are playing with a bot and a spade is the first card up try and knock quickly as you can amass a huge amount of points. Sometimes enough to win the game or give you a big advantage for a match game.
I have never tried the no knocking option as described above but will do so the next time I play and see how that goes and how fast I can win the game.

The “don’t allow knocking” option is a great option to have on, especially if a badge requires you to go gin X times or score X gin points (gin is worth a lot more points than normal hands). It’s also a great option to have on if you’re trying to rank out, since it requires 100,000 gin points.
Hope that helps! 🙂

Here’s my tip about gin.
Go to the liquor store, look for the green bottle labeled “Tanqueray” then locate some jumbo olives, a cocktail shaker and some chipped ice.
Go home, mix a martini and play something besides Jungle Gin.

Karen (#4)…I happen to enjoy playing Jungle Gin…but your comment above is beyond hysterical!!

#4 – Karen… OMG – I almost had to clean up my keyboard (again) after reading your comment!!!
I noticed that my pointer was already mentioned – choose the option to not allow knocking and play the bots. I don’t like the play a friend and cheat method. First – usually your friend is going to want the badge too and it’ll take twice as long. Second – I enjoy the game and don’t like cheating.
Okay, I’ve also noticed that in some rooms – it’s almost impossible to win playing a bot. If that’s the case, get out and try another room. it won’t take long to notice that trend.
If you DO choose to allow knocking (some badges are designed that way) ALWAYS keep your 2’s. The bots will grab them and keep them every single time!
I used to play more often than I do now. Seems Pogo has upped their ante a bit and I’m finding the bots winning more and more often. When I play with my niece – we notice that it becomes extremely one sided – with her winning or me winning repeatedly by getting great hands right from the start. Great if you’re going for a badge and the other person isn’t – not so great if you’re both trying for one or just playing.
hope that helps someone a little 😉

If you wish to rank up or out in Jungle Gin, it’s essential to either play with someone who will let you win or double browse. Ranking up playing bots will take a lifetime. Also, to rank up don’t knock and allow aces to be both low or high. When Aces are low or high, have the losing hand grab 2 of them along with as many high cards as you can accumulate without making melds of 3 and you can grab 120 or more ranks points each game.
If you want to play against bots for the thrill of it and have a couple of pairs of face cards (10s through Kings) hang in with them for a bit as the bot always throws off high cards at the beginning. This will allow you to meld high card sets while throwing off the other high cards that dont match up.
Also, melding in runs of a suit to get a meld with 4 cards is twice as likely statistically than making a meld of 4 with all of the same value card as long as you don’t make a run that includes an ace or king. Of course, if things fall into your lap always take them, but I always try to have at least one run in my hand to make it more likely to win.
I do hope they add some rank badges for this game at some time as it is one of my favorites along with Canasta (which probably has too many rank badges!). Getting from the rank 33 badge (where I am now) to the rank 50 badge is quite daunting and I haven’t even attempted to rank past 33 for the time being.

I agree with the no-knocking feature. I play vs tin men, & if using knocking, they will knock almost every chance they get. Makes for loooonggg games. I think Karen-4, has the right idea.If you follow her instructions, even playing Gin won’t seem so bad after awhile. ROFLMAO

I just recently ranked out on Jungle gin and the best thing in the world I can offer for this game is to have two accounts and double browse. Playing Oklahoma gin while double browsing goes insanely fast. Also, play with the option that aces count as HIGH, not low. It takes a little bit of planning, but if give yourself (the account you want to rank up in) low melds and leave the other account nothing but high cards, including those aces, that don’t meld, you can go gin EVERY hand and score huge points. Not unusual at all to score 250 or 300 in one shot on a good double point round.

I always play a set with needing two cards like if I have a 5 and 7 of spades I will also keep another 5 that way to complete that set I will need a 5 or a 6 of spades and my odds are better than depending on just one card
Monica says
if you are trying to underknock your opponent play aces low and try to keep it as the only card that you have and let the computer knock first that way you will end up with less points and you will underknock him

how do you get the spkike tokies

I was wondering if playing in a beginner room vs. an expert room makes any difference on rank points. Please chime in if anyone knows. Thanks!!

Would somebody please help me figure out how to do the Lion Sleeps badge. It says “Underknock your opponent 4 times this week! (Win the game by having fewer ‘deadwood’ points than the player who calls Gin)
I don’t understand, and have tried this every which way I can, double browsing.
If you have to have fewer deadwood points than the player who calls Gin, that suggests that I am not the player who calls Gin, so I have to have the dummy player call Gin, right?
But if somebody gets underknocked, then that means somebody has to knock before calling Gin, right?
How can you have a game in which somebody knocks, and somebody also calls Gin? Don’t you win the game by doing either one or the other?
OK so let’s assume that knocking is also the same as calling Gin, although that makes no sense to me because to call Gin you have to have groups of 3-3-4, and if you knock, you don’t have that, but anyway.
So I make my dummy account knock, and I have fewer deadwood points in my hand, but somehow that still doesn’t count as me underknocking the opponent? I never get credit toward the badge when doing it this way.
Can somebody please give me an example of two hands in which one underknocks the other in a way that would get credit for this badge?
For example I just played yet another hand I thought would do it, but it didn’t. I had 555-666-999-3 and my opponent had KKK-777-AAA-8, I had the opponent knock, and I got no credit toward the badge.
Is it best to have a plan of exactly which two specific hands you are going to build, when double browsing for this? Right down to which suits the runs will be in? I have tried this, but have not yet been able to build exactly what I needed before the cards ran out and the hand was cancelled.
I am really missing something. I tried this badge when it first came out and had the same problem. Now that there was another Jungle Gin weekly, I decided to try again with Lion Sleeps as my personal, and I am screwing it up all over again.

Debbie #14 – First you need to make sure you have activated the badge. We have all forgotten to do that at one time 🙂
When you set up your room you need to allow knocking.
Your dummy hand has to knock, not call gin. If your dummy hand knocks with 10 you need to have 9 or less after your meld is down.
You should get credit for the badge PLUS it will say that you got a bonus for underknocking your opponent…..think it’s a 10 point bonus.
