Happy Weekend and Happy Spring! Can you believe it, we’re finally out of the fog of winter and Spring will… well… spring up this weekend.
It seems like it’s been a dry spell for Pogo lately — no new games in a few weeks (and even then, most of us didn’t care much for Beaker Creatures, according to the comments it got on this site) and each week that goes by without Monopoly Slots or Lottso! Express feels longer and longer.
Sometimes I think it might be better *not* to know so much about the games coming out.
Let me take a moment to talk about comments. I love it when you leave comments — don’t get me wrong — but I am impeccably organized in real life and this translates to my online life as well. I try to keep blog posts to one topic per post, and I’d really like it if comments on a specific blog post were at least somewhat related to the original post… with one exception: the weekend open threads. I know a lot of you are used to the “post any time about anything” nature of online forums and boards, but a blog is a little different. It’s a little less two-way and more about cultivating specific discussions on specific topics.
If you could, please try to keep the comments you make on-topic with the blog post you’re commenting on, and save everything else you’d like to say for the 3 days of the week the weekend open thread is up. I’m pretty liberal with approving most comments, but commenting “This game is teh sucksorz!@#!@$!!!!” on an original post containing the Weekly Challenges is not helpful to anyone. Just something to keep in mind. Thanks.
Anyway. The weekend open thread is awesome because you can talk about whatever you want. If you’re at a loss for words, answer me this:
If you could remove one game (and any of its ranks and badges and challenges) from Pogo, what would it be, and why?

Three are a few to choose from and that makes it hard but one of my top ones to remove would be Greenback Bayou. The game is pointless and very boring. The token payout is poor and the game is nothing more than luck. Being able to only jump once in a round most times is crazy.

Right now my vote is Pogo Bowl lol lol . Not because of this weeks badge but for the Badge “Perfect Ball Badge” in the 10-Pack. I have to have 2 games of 200+(not happening ) I have have been trying for weeks & weeks and still nothing lol. So i hate that game right now lol lol But on a more seriouse note Greenback Bayou has my vote. It makes no sense to me to play the game. I understand its fun to some people, But not me. I have no use for it at all unless its a weekly badge.

My vote is for pogo bowl. I have never been able to figure out how to consistantly bowl over 150 for ranks and have NEVER bowled over 200. I’ve had to have people play for me to get even weekly “easy” badges in that game. It could go bye bye.

A preface to my vote here. If Pogo is getting rid of any games please give us enough warning to complete challenge badges before they remove a game. Another vote for Greenback Bayou. Slots are mindless fun and more interesting as far as I am comcerned.
Squelchies always freezes up making it difficult to play. I agree with Pat about Euchre. Although I have heard of it, I find it more work then fun.
This weeks bowling badge was difficult because the gold pins are so rare. I also think the 200 or better games are unrealistic goals. I think Pogo has been doing some goofy things with badges, weekly, premium and the one they were supposed to have this week and moved without explanation or warning. I also think the secret badge from Beaker Creatures is a joke that has gone on too long. These secret badges, or the 25,000 badge in Everyone Wins Bingo, Flawless Victory, make me tend to dislike a game and not play it. These badges crowd up rooms and may be unattainable in some cases which in turn is frustrating.
I think Pogo needs to reset the dial. It was interesting that after reading here how so many of us chose to plan for the TP challenge that Pogo extended it a week. Maybe while they are in the planning stages of a game they should carefully plan badge requirements to make sure that they are realistic and fun for the masses.

I used to be SO frustrated with boling too. Thought it was impossible to get a 200 game until I found pogotips.com. It is a great site for tips. It has pics that show you how to get more strikes.

For me, the super dominoes badge earning 60 in a turn (10 times) ain’t gonna happen. Sure wish I could trade it for something else. Only badge in that album I can’t get done.
Regressing to last week’s topic – I sure wish that I could change the background color on Jigsaw games – VERY hard for me to see sometimes.

If i can vote for one game to get rid of it would be Bayou. I perfer bingo games or slots . I love pogo .Keep up the good work. And I love when you let us know when new games are gonna be on pogo. Im a 49 year old who gets excited at a candy store.

GrMaLois, if you are talking about the Jigsaw Treasure Hunter backgrounds, you CAN change the background. They changed that quite a while ago. On the left side, I believe it is the last square, click on it and you can change to a lighter, white or cream, color.
There are games I do not like and only play for badges, and many of them have already been named here. BUT, when you say remove the game, ranks and badges, do you mean the ones I have already earned? In that case, I would vote NO, don’t remove any game if it means I lose my badges for them….I worked hard for them and wouldn’t want to lose them.
If a Mix-N-Match challenge or an album has even one game in it where I would find it hard to impossible to get, I do not buy that challenge or album. If I am not sure about the challenge, I try to do it before I buy it to see how hard it is to win. If I can’t do it, I don’t buy the challenge.

I think that all the games that do not have spinners for winning either tokens or the Jackpot ( ha ha ) should be removed. Some of us spend hours upon hours in Hearts, Euchre, Crib and other card games because of a challenge and yet we only get the badge for our hard work and nothing else.
I also tend to agree with the majority of the people and I also think that Greenback should also be removed. Children won’t even play it for their parents not even if the parents pay the children. I know of a few kids who won’t even touch that game.
Jan makes a good point about Pogo getting out of hand with these Secret Hidden badges for the newer games. The last badge I got that was hidden was the 25,000 wilds passed in Everyone Wins Bingo and now I really dislike that game and refuse to play it.
If Pogo decides to put out another challenge like Trivial Pursuit, then they should have an announcement on the homepage stating something about “Do NOT play this game everyday as there will be an upcoming challenge!” Or something along that line, it seems to make sense to me.

I would have to agreee with most of you, lets get rid of Bayou. Now I am just waiting impatiently for Monopoly Slots and the new Lottso game to show up. I am hoping it will be here on Tuesday.

I absolutly love Euchre.. I have been playing it for years and I would be devasted if they got rid of it.. My game to get rid of would be Dice Derby. It has no ranks and it becomes quite boring.

Now, about which game I want to get rid off. I hate Pebble Beach Golf!!! I need to do a badge for 2004 book and just can’t get it to work. Not being a fan of golf is not helping either. Anyone have any tutorial on that game that would help?
As of Greenback Bayou, I would agree too. It’s too simple and it’s too random. I never play it unless for the badge.

Nothing special going on for this weekend. I just wanted to let everyone know that in Beaker Creatures I have got over 25,000 perfect sets, and I still havent received any special game badge.
my screen name in pogo is mspriss3373, come and check my stats out and then look at my badges, you will see there are no special badges for this as of yet. Kinda of disappointed since it took me and some of my other family time to get where I am in the game!

I agree that Bayou is boring and pointless, but since it doesn’t have ranks and only a few weekly badges devoted to it, I’m ok.
I can handle the approximately 1,400 hours of nonstop play to rank out in Lottso, or the month of constant play to finish Canasta because these games are enjoyable and fun, especially with other people. The games I don’t get are the monotonous ones like Poppit or Squelchies, where you clear 200 waves and still aren’t to rank 12 yet. LOL
So I’m sorry Spike, but Poppit or Squelchies gets my vote. ;)

i’d rather not remove anything at all. there are plenty i dislike (greenback comes to mind), but i realize that my poison may be someone else’s pleasure. i figure if it comes up, i can play a few hours of anything for a badge, or if i really can’t stomach it, i can do without. for example, i love spades, but i HATE rated spades. dealing with the issues that come with rated spades are not worth the little digital image i will never look at again.

I would not get rid of any of the games on pogo, while I don’t like all of them, many people like the ones I don’t and vice versa. My most hated game on pogo is Poppit! and what would happen if they got rid of that? They would be bombarded with complaints! I don’t have a problem with bayou or euchre, but I too only play them for badges as there are many more fun games to play in my opinion. I think the diversity of pogo is what makes it so much fun for everyone…so I say…keep ’em all!

I say, keep all of the games on pogo. If you look, there’s players in every one of them 24/7, so there’s someone that likes all of them. My theory: if you don’t like them, simply don’t play them. I’m not fond of alot of games on pogo, but IF they choose that game for a badge, I’m there to get it. I’m ranked out in many of the games, even that Quick Quack thing, which annoys most everybody that had to do that “impossible challenge”… but it wasn’t impossible if you set your mind to getting the badge, the same as the other challenges that are really a challenge. I’d rather have a challenge to win a badge, than a “gimme”. I see no point why Greenback Bayou was ever made, so that one is my least favorite, along with chess. If you can’t get a badge in a challenge, have someone (a friend) get it for you. I help alot of my friends get a badge in a game they just hate to play. That’s what pogo friends are for :)

Yes, allowing your Pogo friends to play badges does help sometimes when there are just games that you can’t stand to play, or you simply aren’t good at, and while I have had several of my friends on my account, there are two things I’ve always done.
The first is to change my password to something different before I give it to them. This way, they no longer have access to my account once the badge is finished, because I change it back to my regular password. The second is to go to the EA site (all you have to do is click the Help link at the top of the homepage, and login TWICE. The second time will take you to the EA page login.) and remove my billing information. Please remember that although they are your Pogo Friends, you don’t really know them. You have probably never met them, and in all likelyhood never will. Remove your credit card info before you allow them on your account, this way you will not be “gifting” anyone albums or a year of free Pogo without your knowledge. Just a few words of caution before any of you let someone else that you don’t really know onto your Pogo account.

Off the subject just a little, was wondering if anyone else has noticed the mini mall? I mean- dont get me wrong Im not jealous, ( well maybe a little lol) But there are a whole LOT of mens clothing verses the womens. Has anyone else noticed this? Even with new releases the men have more to choose from clothing wise. I even wrote in to the editor but he ignored my email, even though it said my letter would be read. Am I crazy, or do you see it too?

To laura witht the help for pogo bowl that would be great! I have tried all kinds of tip and tricks and still just cant do it. The most i have been able to get was 189. Once i let my 6 yr old play and he got a 201! lol thats the only one i have ever gotten in my life.

Maybe I should have worded the question a little better. The point in asking was not to get Pogo to remove a game or make sure that nobody ever plays it again… I just wanted people to discuss what game they would like to see ‘off their list’, never to have to do a badge in the game or play it to finish ranks (if ranking out is your goal). Sure, I agree with “if you don’t like the game, don’t play it”, but that wasn’t really the question. Maybe I should have asked: if you could get a free pass for any Pogo game and automatically receive all of its current and future badges/ranks, which would it be?
Personally, I have a hard time with High Stakes Pool. I’d love a free pass so that I wouldn’t have to fret over pushing the little balls with the little sticks into little holes. *giggle*

I would have to say the least played games are what need to be gotten rid of. Right now, I see less than 150 people in Swashbuckets, Bloop, Word Craft, and Greenback Bayou. The ones I never play are Keno, Greenback Bayou, Swashbuckets, PopFu, Chess, Checkers, Backgammon, all of the poker games, and most of the slots games with exception to the only “fun” one, Hog Heaven Slots. The rest of the slots are absolutely mindless and pointless. Especially after you’ve already completed the “story” once. Other than that – the rest are pretty good and entertaining. Except hearts. I can’t stand that game. I know how to play it, and win it, but boy do I hate having to play it. I have SO MANY challenges in that game that I’ve totally avoided doing just because of how much I dislike that game. LOL I wish it would totally poof along with the badges/challenges for it.

First there is no secret badge for beakers. if there were a secret badge there would be a spot in your badge album for it and there isn’t one. Also it is posted on beta site that monopoly slots will be out real soon which means most likely on tuesday unless any new bugs are found. Also on the coke rewards program it is 3 points for a 20 ounce or 2 liter bottle not 4 as you posted and you can enter 120 points a week into your account. I would not get rid of any games because even though i may not like one some others do

A free pass that means never having another chess badge? YES!! With nearly every other game, it’s at least POSSIBLE to win once in a while even if you’re not a skilled player. With chess? Not a prayer.

I think Pogo is missing an opportunity to make money – if we could buy and sell our badges (and Pogo gets a cut of the action like ebay does, maybe 1 gem per transaction). Someone good at one game could buy and do that badge (more than once) and sell them for tokens… well you see where I’m going with this idea…

If I had a free pas I’d definitely use it for chess. I can deal with Greenback Bayou…it’s just plain boring to play. And I think they had so many problems with the Pebble Beach Golf badge when it came out that they (hopefully!) won’t do another one.
Faith: If they do get rid of any games, you’ll get to keep your badges for them. They just go into your special edition badge book. That’s what happened when they got rid of Buckaroo Blackjack. Now that is definitely a game I’m glad to see gone!
It took me almost 8 hours to finish the bowling badge. A few people said room hopping helped but I didn’t try it.

Canasta would be one that needs to go why –the game is mainly one sided and other players whine if you get the red 3’s more than once and then they want to say that you must be using a cheat program even though you know that you are not.
Or playing with your friend/spouse telling them what cards to play cause they are using there im or phone to play the game or don’t extend if your game gets frozen or you get booted and.
And always causing problems for other players to set them off so that they can get banned
Canasta is Not a fun game to play any more i wish they would take this game off for good

Kat, in Lottso, all you have to do is click on the number on a card, and the number ball will go to the card. That makes is easier than trying to drag the ball to the card. I love Lottso…that is the game that convinced me to become a member lol.

Dominoes. Most of the players will take one look at your rating and deem you unworthy of playing them. The rare time you actually play someone, they think you’re just another stepping stone to the highly illustrious Master ranking. If you beat them, it’s like you’ve crushed their dreams. In fact, every game with ratings that needs more than one player to play is like that, with the exception of No Limit Hold’em.
All the other games are fine. Of course, that’s because I rule at everything.

I bowled a few games at a time,,,,,played 4 games got 2 golds, played 3 more got no more golds,,,so i quit,,,,came back the next day and got 2 more right off the bat,,,,then quit again,,,,got last one last nite,,,,,was a very easy badge if you didnt try to get them all at once, like some do!!! A lot were complaining they were playing all day and got none!!! I told them, come back later, luck always changes. I don’t understand why they have to have the badge on wednesday, when you got a week to do it!!! I personally do a few of each every day, so I dont get bored, or come to hate the game!!!
Hmmmmm Lura, an automatic pass?? I think chess or checkers,,,,,,I have friends that help me and vice versa, but I would take a pass for either of those.

I never let anyone on my name that I cannot trust,,,, I used to change the pass, but now many years later, I have found I don’t have to worry about my one friend that helps me and vice versa, but I would never let anyone new on it now. Well i have been thinking this question over and if i had a free pass it would go to Bridge.As i can figure out how to play almost any game,but this game not a clue.Weather here was beautiful today for the 1st day of spring….but know the rain will follow as to bring May flowers.

If you look around the web you will find 100s of sites with 1000s of games to play. What makes Pogo such a success is their badge program and of course the avatars. If we were to get rid of any games I would say any that don’t offer a badge… are their any ?
I personally don’t like card games and IMO there are too many of them; I don’t like poppit either nor do I like the slots other then Hog Heven. I see however that many do like those games so leave them there I guess.
Part of the point of challenges is to get people to play games they most likely would not play otherwise, I think that is a great idea. I can not imagine I would ever have wanted to rank up in Poppit or Stellar Sweeper had there not been challenges for those games and for sure I would not play the slots.
If EA were to remove any games, I would hope that they would default rewared everyone with all badges said games ever offered so that no one would be penilized in any manner.
If I were to choose any game to remove it most likely would be that robot slot as it has no ranks, no badges, and no point .. just my opinion.

I agree with nearly all of you that Greenback Bayou is the most boring and I would never miss it, but I agree CW11, its chess. I have tried playing chess for many years before pogo was ever thought of and I just don’t get it.
If you want some help getting better at bowling go to: http://www.pipstips.info Very simple web site. It shows you where to bowl from and where to aim at. It will take practice and time to get better and get 200’s most of the time, but you will see less splits right away.

I am an oldie when it comes to pogo. I must say whom ever it is that takes the time to get the trivia answers out is the pogo GOD that i have always prayed to! *bows down*
if I had a pick on a free ticket for a game it would be tri Peaks soitaire. I have been working on the badges for in there for years but I must say when they added additional ranks and badges i cried!

I have a cute story about a game that everyone is okay to be without. Greenback bayou, I too would like to see the game go but I remember when my youngest son was little he would love to play that game and every time the froggy would dance he would wiggle his butt. He decided to play it not too long ago and funny thing is he stil wiggles his butt (he is now 9) hehe.

I wouldnt get rid of the secret badges.You dont have to play constantly.The badge isnt timed.I play each game a bit and bounce around so I dont get bored with one game.Weekly badges on the other hand I think pogo has really been making them to long.But if there to easy people complain about that to.So Pogo find an in between long and easy.Yes Bayou is rediculous.I love Hearts,Canasta,Pinocle.Hard to get ranks but there not going anywhere.

I have a friend from Indiana and she loves Euchre and I can’t stand it, don’t get it, and hate to play, but…when there’s a badge, we play together and take turns losing or whatever the challenge. And then in turn, I help her with badges she doesn’t like and vice versa.
Don’t play chess either, but some time back, another friend figured out how to get checkmate EVERY time in just 11 moves…that is great to know, you always have to be white.
Ayli–need the same golf badge to finish that book…apparently when it first came out, there was a glitch about not scoring every hole, but when pogo realized it, they fixed it, so now the rest of us have to play…ugh!!
I’ll be old and brittle before I get that badge…..

Jenny: the “Pogo GOD” is actually a Pogo Goddess named Norma. She has been providing the daily trivia answers reliably for a couple months now. However, she had to go to the hospital a few weeks ago and ended up having unscheduled brain surgery. Needless to say, while she’s recuperating I’ve got myself and a few friends helping out.

6160, I can see your point on playing rated games especially for badges. There was a game where I would play rated games all the time. Then the *behavior* of people and their ratings got to me and now I only play rated games if I have to for a badge. Most peeps I wind up playing with won’t take turns losing either.
On the subject of ratings, I have seen more and more people with zero as their rating. What happens when they play for a badge requiring wins in a rated game and they lose a game?

I would like a pass for any game that requires live players – so I can play whatever time I wanted against the bots if no one else is around. As for removing a game, Beaker Creatures would get my vote. All the hype before launch and it is the dumbest game I’ve seen yet.
I got the Pebble Beach golf badge by playing so badly… after the score hit 99, it rolled back to one instead of 100.

They can take either Jungle Gin, Payday Freecell, Bayou, Sockhop Slots or Beaker Creatures and I wouldn’t shed a tear. The reason for the first two is that I can’t play those games and have other people do the badges for me and the reason for the next two is that they both have poor token payout and the reason for the third one is that the game is boring. I wouldn’t mind if Battle Philnx or No Limit Texas Hold’em were gone either. There is a reason why we haven’t gotten a weekly for either of these games.
I can understand why people don’t like Pogo Bowl, but its a game that requires that you have some skill and also a lot of it is luck of the draw.

Kim, did you get the Golf Solitaire badge recently by doing that? Or did you get it when it came out and had a glitch? I tried getting the badge sometime last year because I was going to work on completing the 2004 album. I couldn’t come close to winning the game. So now I am working on completing the 2005 album, lol. I guess, due to that weekly badge, I would have to vote on a pass for Golf Solitaire. (The newer golf game isn’t too bad though.) I have a friend who has completed every weekly badge but the Golf one.

Even though I dislike Greenback Bayou, pointless game, I would like to see Checkers and Chess gone. Checkers you can’t move where you want to, only where the comp wants you to move. With Chess not everyone show to play. I also dislike playing games where you have to play against a real person, who won’t share.

Get rid of the Frog, the ducks, harvest. My grand kids wouldn’t play the frog, but the 16 year old whopped the bots in Battle Phlinx, which I don’t even attempt.

i would get rid of any game that has timers i come to relax and chat and meet new people while enjoying a game rush rush rush to play dont excite me in any way shape or form, the togo bowling is awesome you play at your own rate and can get up to go to the bathroom and stuff but get rid of all the timed games and i would be a happy camper
