Happy Weekend Everyone!

This week was the first week we tried meeting up in game rooms to meet new people and keep each other company while doing our badges. (It’s not too late to get started either — for this week’s challenges in Boggle Bash and Word Search Daily we’re meeting up in rooms under the Topics tab that start with the letter “M”.) I have had pretty good success running into BadgeHungry readers while working on badges — I was glad to meet some new folks and say hi to long-time readers as well! How’s it been working out for you all? Is there any way we can improve on the whole experience?

This week’s discussion topic comes from Mike. He wants to know: Have you won a money jackpot in Pogo, what game was it, and how did you spend the money when you got the check from Pogo? I suspect that actual money jackpots are pretty rare, so if you have won anything at all from Pogo, please feel free to share that too!

As usual, you can feel free to go off-topic in this thread and ask any burning questions you may have about Pogo. If you need help with a badge or have a question please don’t hesitate… we’re here to help!

It’s official! Pogo has let us know that Flower Daze is coming soon! Don’t ask us what soon means, it could be next week or three weeks from now. Pogo isn’t exactly consistent with this type of thing. Most likely, though, it’ll come out on some Tuesday morning in the near future.

Flower Daze is a puzzle strategy game that involves flowers, and lots of them! According to the How to Play which has just fbeen posted on Pogo’s servers, you will be clicking on flowers to open them and change their color. The goal is to transform all of the flowers within a set number of moves, which could be difficult but luckily there’s an unlimited undo button!

Welcome to a very special Valentine’s Day edition of the Weekend Open Thread! I went digging through the archives to get inspiration from the weekend open thread from around Valentine’s Day last year and last year’s thread had a total of 26 comments. These days we get that many comments within the first few hours! I am just so thrilled at how many of you have found your way here and how many come back each week to participate in what has become one of the most popular parts of this web site!

Donham123 wrote in with this week’s topic question and I’ll admit I almost didn’t use it because I didn’t think there’d be enough to talk about. But after reading about the very same topic on Facebook and on a special Pogo News article, I realized we’ll be just fine. So, without further ado:

Did you meet your sweetheart on Pogo or do you know of anyone who did?

This week, Pogo added a new feature to their game windows: bars that appear at the top and bottom of their game screens. These bars contain your token amount, the jackpot amount, and links to mute the game and to turn chat on or off. In games that have them, the bars also link to badges and other game features. For example, in the screenshot of Yahtzee below, the bars also include links to a game feature, such as changing the style. Here’s a screenshot from Pogo themselves:

According to the latest update to the Known Issues page, which was the source of the screenshot above, these bars are supposed to appear “on top and at the bottom of all games” and if you do not see them, you should follow their instructions for what to do if your game window is cropped. With that said, it does not appear the roll-out of these new bars is complete as some games simply do not have the bars (yet?) and that cannot be fixed by allowing your browser to open windows without status bars. For example, take the games from this week’s challenges: the bars have been added to Sweet Tooth 2 but not Hog Heaven Slots. It’s probably safe to expect all games to have the new bars within a few weeks as the developers and designers re-work the game windows to include the new bars.

According to the Pogo News, the bars are a “strange issue” that will be fixed soon:

Well, *that’s* communication at Pogo for you — two entirely different and conflicting messages about the same thing! At this point I’d probably side with customer support’s Known Issues page, as they’ve got a screenshot and everyone knows “screenshot or it didn’t happen”. Nice one, Pogo.

Whether you like them or not, the new bars might be here to stay (and as explained, they’re likely to be soon added to the rest of the games as well). I have received so much email about this and it’s been mentioned in a few comments already across the site, so I figure I’d better open this one up for comments too. What do you think of the bars?
