Spades Tips & Hints

Rank progress in Spades is determined by the number of spades caught in tricks that you or your partner win.

If you are interested in ranking up, you should click the box that makes the 2′s count as high spades. This makes each deck have 16 spades instead of 13.

Don’t allow nil or blind nil bids. Always bid 1 and try to take a trick even if your hand is terrible. You never know when a little spade is going to take a trick. Also, you might want to dump a spade under (or over) a trick that partner has cut (trumped with a spade). You can also cut a trick that partner has taken in another suit if you are afraid your small spades will go to waste. Always focus on getting spades into the tricks your side is going to take.

• If it is your lead and you do not have an ace lead a queen to force the ace.
• Try to avoid leading a suit that has already been spaded.
