We have to admit, we were kind of fans of Scrabulous (here’s our original post on the whole fiasco, replete with links to more sources), so it’s with a heavy heart (and perhaps fewer words than usual), we tell you about Pogo’s SCRABBLE on Facebook. You can challenge up to three friends to play a game of Scrabble. You can pause your games, track your score, chat with friends while you play, meet new people via public games, and more.
(The link to Pogo’s Scrabble on Facebook only works if you’re already logged into your Facebook account, by the way.)
The Scrabble Secrets Premium Badge Album was released today; it contains six challenges in Scrabble and costs $3.99 or 58 gems.
An interesting note, the badges spell out SCABLE, and Pogo never added the R or the other B.
We’ve gotten some more detail on what the challenges will be for the Scrabble Secrets Premium Badge Album. It will be on sale soon for $3.99 and will contain six challenges in Scrabble:
S is for Symbol Badge
Earn 20 Double Word Score Bonuses in 1 hour or less!
Win this badge plus 1500 tokens!
C is for Chalkboard Badge
Create 50 5-letter words in 5 days! (Play with Pogo’s House Rules only!)
Win this badge plus 1500 tokens!
A is for Ascension Badge
Create 2 or more words on a single turn 20 times in 10 days!
Win this badge plus 1500 tokens!
B is for Bracelet Badge
Create 60 6-letter words in 16 days! (Play with Traditional Rules only!)
Win this badge plus 2000 tokens!
L is for Ladle Badge
Earn 50 Triple Word Score Bonuses in 2 weeks!
Win this badge plus 2000 tokens!
E is for Expectation Badge
Play 5 Bingos in 3 weeks!
Win this badge plus 2000 tokens!
We’re still wondering why it doesn’t completely spell out SCRABBLE, but it may just be because the album and badges are still in development.
If you’re interested in all of the latest Scrabble news, check out Scrabble Central. Pogo’s created this special page to highlight the latest news, events, and National Scrabble Association information. Also, each week they’ll be giving out Scrabble tips to improve your game. Scrabble addicts are going to want to bookmark this page and visit it often!
This week’s Scrabble tips:
Use the Premium Squares. Where you play is often more important than what you play. The 8 triple word scoresquares are often the most important areas of the board. Use them first, or your opponents will! When you have a high-scoring letter such as J, Q, X, or Z, try to place it on a triple letter or double letter score square!
Look for word beginnings and endings! Look in your rack for certain letters that can become beginnings and endings for lots of different words. Common beginnings: pre, tri, con Common endings: ing, ion, er
Length doesn’t matter! A long word is not always a high-scoring word. The point values of the individual letters and the premium squares usually have a bigger impact on your score than the length of the word. The word ZA, for example, often gives you more points than a longer word like ANTLER, since the Z alone is worth 10 points!
Choose Your Skill Level! If you decide to play against a computer opponent, you can choose the skill level that you prefer by selecting one of the 6 “tabs” on the Room Selector web page. If you’d like the computer opponent’s skill level to be at the beginner level, choose the Social or Beginner tabs. On the Intermediate tab, the computer tends to make longer words. On the Advanced and Expert tab, you’ll notice that the computer’s vocabulary is even larger. Try the Master tab for the ultimate challenge — the computer’s vocabulary is immense, and it tends to make very long words!
In the works at Pogo is a new Premium Badge Album called “Scrabble Secrets”. There are 8 animated badges in total and each one depicts a scene that ‘discovers’ a letter in the word SCRABBLE. So far, all are complete — including the completion ‘book’ badge — except the R and one of the B’s. We’re not sure what games you’ll need to play to complete each badge, but it appears they will not be all Scrabble.
