From the monthly archives:

May 2008

It looks like Pogo got their crap together and finally created (just two days late, eh) the final badge for completion of the 8th Mix-n-Match album. We realize there’s only a small group of people — compared to their general pool of Club members — who have finished all 8 albums and are currently working on their 9th with the latest release of May’s badges, but we hope Pogo will be more on the ball in the future with these type of things.

So far, we haven’t heard any reports of anyone getting the badge YET (which was promised to automatically be added as soon as it is ready), and the badge hasn’t been pushed to the public site yet (probably with the next maintenance on Tuesday), so just sit tight and have some patience. For those of you who are eligible (and/or curious) and want to look out for it: it’s of Spike in a gym doing endless jump-roping. Jump, jump, jump. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Summery Mini Items, Plus Mini Pets News

by BadgeHungry on May 22, 2008

Today bring a few new items to the mini mall, including pants (yay pants!) for our minis. There are also some older spring and summery items that have been re-released. Check ‘em out.

In addition, earlier this week the Mini Mall was (slightly) updated with a few new graphics and new navigation. These new graphics match the new look that is planned in an upcoming Club Pogo homepage redesign. This sets the mall up for the new pet store section. It’ll be a while before this feature is out, but in the meantime check out this header graphic that they’ve created for it:

Weekly Challenges (May 21-27)

by BadgeHungry on May 21, 2008

Sweet Tooth 2 - 4 Match Badge
Make 100 “4 Match” combos this week!

Chess - Chess Champ Badge
Win 1,000 tokens this week!

This challenge has been decreased from 4,000 tokens to 1,000 tokens; while we are thankful for that, we are still dreading this challenge as folks who are (ahem) less than fanatic about chess in general. We have, however, heard of a great way to reduce the amount of time we’ll be spending playing our least-favorite game. Be warned: we haven’t tested it yet!

By moving the pieces from square to square in the following method while playing against a bot, you’ll win (and earn over 100 tokens):

Play as white (you can resign when you get the “black”/dark brown pieces):
1 Pe2-e4
2 Bf1-b5
3 Pd2-d4
4 g1-f3
5 Bc1-f4
6 Qd1-d2
7 Bf4xh6
8 Qd2xh6
9 f3-g5
10 Qh6-h7
11 Qh7-f7++

(P=Pawn, B=Bishop, Q=Queen — here’s a Chess piece reference)

Information on Poker Pop

by BadgeHungry on May 21, 2008

This morning, you may have noticed the addition of Poker Pop to your Card & Board games list on Pogo.

Poker Pop added to Pogo

Clicking on the link displays a blank page and as the small snapshot above shows, there are no players in the game. For those of you who thought Pogo had sneaked a new game by us: you’re unfortunately wrong. It’s not even a deluxe game, so no minis or badges.

Pogo Pop is one of those downloadable games that has been ported to Pogo to play in your browser (like Dream Day Wedding, Bejeweled 2, Zuma, et cetera). If you need to know what it’s all about, you can download a free trial of Poker Pop at Big Fish Games. At first glance, it appears to be a cross between poker and mahjong. (Two great tastes that taste great together? Perhaps!)

Special Edition 4th Badge Coming Soon

by BadgeHungry on May 21, 2008

There’s a special edition 4th (of July, we assume) badge coming at the end of June or early July. It features characters from Crazy Cakes, so the challenge will probably be for that game. More details as we get them (of course).

Ali Baba Slots has been Updated

by BadgeHungry on May 20, 2008

Ali Baba Slots is now updated with new graphics, sound, ranks, badges and storyline. (You will recognize the jackpot spin noise from Spooky Slots though, which had us cackling and wishing it were October again.) Unfortunately the ‘nudge’ feature that was originally written into the “How to Play” didn’t make it into the final release, and unlike Spooky Slots, you cannot press the B key to spin. However, like the first release of Spooky Slots, the ranks are hard to come by and the jackpot spins — while equally as tedious to receive — pay out well.

The pay table is a little hard to see at higher resolutions, so here are some screenshots of what you’ll need (the good stuff shows up only on the third spinner):

Ali Baba Slots - Genie to rank up
To progress in rank, get the genie on the line of the spinner.

Ali Baba Slots - Pogo Logo to get a Jackpot Spin
For a jackpot spin, get the Pogo logo on the line of the spinner.
