I have been using Windows 8.1 since October and I have not experienced any issues with Java.

Are you using the desktop version of each browser? As the Live Tiles version doesn’t support Java.

I use Google Chrome, but have Internet Explorer installed as well and neither have had issues.

Have you recently installed new security software? If so, that might be a conflicting problem.

If you open the Java console and check that that it enables Java content in the browser. The option is found under Security.
