Sneak Peek: Nine Mystery Badges

by Lura on July 11, 2011 · 38 comments

One of my sources gave me these nine Special Edition badges that Pogo’s graphic artists have recently created, but they didn’t come with any information on what they are or if there are challenges associated with them.

My initial thought on these badges is that they’re for an upcoming Pogo-related anniversary/birthday (see the #9 cake), but Pogo.com is turning 12 in September, Club Pogo is turning 8 this month, and Pogo UK is turning 4 on September 25th. No 9th anything. There goes my idea, so let’s play a guessing game!

Here’s what I know: there were just these nine badges and no others (no 10, no 11, etc) and they appear to be actual final versions of badges Pogo is planning.

Do you have any idea what these badges could be for? Feel free to use the comments below to make your guesses.

could it be how old a game is maybe

2 CaptHitsugaiya July 11, 2011 at 6:46 am

Maybe the 9 is for next year’s Club Pogo. It’s 8, this year.

anyone with kids knows you have to have 1 to grow on! hah :D

The only thing I can connect 9 with on Pogo (after just one cup of coffee ;-)) is that there are 9 weekly badge albums. But if it was to celebrate the 10th, there would be 10 badges. Puzzling.

5 imacrab79 July 11, 2011 at 7:39 am

How many badges were chosen from the create-your-own badge contest???

6 Emmily July 11, 2011 at 7:43 am

My next thought (after my second cup of coffee), was that it may be connected to the Badge Challenge Challenge Winners, but checking out Pogo news, there’s 10 of them.

Unless, there’s a special winners badge for the best one of the 10 that has not been revealed yet.

Im going to say that the 9th badge is good luck for next year lol all i can think of lol.

8 MNKY July 11, 2011 at 9:04 am

Well all is see are the numbers 1 thru 9

9 cass July 11, 2011 at 9:06 am

The only thing I can think of (and it’s probably not right LOL!) Is that it might have something to do w/ the daily specials. I thought I had read somewhere when Pogo first started the daily specials, that there might be a badge after doing X number of specials. Maybe this is the first 9. They’re special edition badges so I don’t think it would be for a particular game.
I also think that Emmily # 6 might be right. These might be for 9 of the winers in the “badge challenge challenge” And they haven’t revealed the one for the top winner yet.
The more I think about it my Money is on Emmily’s idea!!

One of these badges will be awarded for each year one has paid for Club Pogo. Eight badges would go for those paying for the first eight years with the ninth badge being added when one pays for the ninth year. Thus, if one has been a Club Pogo member for three years, he/she would be celebrating three birthday badges at Pogo.

When I saw these badges, the first thing I thought of was the (presumably defunct) Pogo Group Challenges.

This was a new kind of challenge/badge they introduced back in Sept 2004, where the whole Pogo Community works collectively towards a goal, and everyone’s work contributes to the team goal. At the end of the group challenge, everyone got the badge that the group as a whole earned.

When they started this, there was a lot of fanfare and they made it sound like they would be doing it regularly.

The “Pogo Cares Breast Cancer Challenge” was the first and only group challenge (so far) back in Sept 2004. I remember participating and we all won a badge.

Looking at these, I thought maybe another group challenge might be in the offing, with several levels for the group to reach, and badges to correspond.

I doubt I’m right, but that’s what I thought when saw the badges that look like different levels. (The first group challenge badges were bronze, silver and gold, not numbered levels.)

BTW, I did enjoy the group challenge and wondered why they never continued it. I did write to Pogo Editor a few times about Group Challenges, but they never answered or printed my letter.

# 10 Robero

That idea sounds really good as well, I never thought that!

13 Linnie July 11, 2011 at 10:21 am

Well, you got me as far as what the 9 is for, but I did notice that in the background of that number 9 it says gem, maybe it will only cost 9 gems, or gems is celebrating something we don’t know….lol….hope the mystery is solved soon, I hate waiting on pins and needles, they sting…lol…

14 booboo July 11, 2011 at 10:24 am

2,5,6 sweet tooth, 4+8 tumblebees, 3=tripeaks, 7 stackem, 9 crazy cakes, i can see candy and cake and honey as a sweets theme but stackem nd tripeaks and #1 (mahjong garden) idk. Guess we will know soon enough

15 Emmily July 11, 2011 at 10:33 am

I hope Kev (#11) is right, I like the sound of that :-)

16 Stef140 July 11, 2011 at 10:38 am

I love the idea about these being for daily specials, I have always wondered if they were going to make it worth my while to do them regularly by rewarding me for doing so somehow.

I also like the idea of it being the group challenges. I remember that one way back when and I love the idea. Other game sites I play on do similar things and it is so much fun.

17 ed July 11, 2011 at 11:39 am

Here is my wild guess:

Pogo is going to launch a Special Edition Badges event (kind of like the Spike’s World Token Hunt from last year). There will be 9 events to be introduced one per week (or so) as you want or like, with badges costing probably 28 gems a piece.

Possibly each badge will require behaviors based on the number shown, for example the Tumble Bees badge will be awarded for getting 4 buzz words, or the Stack ‘Em Badge will be for using 7 power ups. Interest will increase as the badges get harder and harder each week.

No idea what game the “9″ badge is for… perhaps it’s for a game yet to be launched and will coincide with the launch of that new game? If nothing else it’s fun to try and guess!

18 tennbrw July 11, 2011 at 11:53 am

booboo #14, if you go with that theory, the only game I can think of for #1 would be poppit because the background in it reminds me of the background from poppit. Just a guess though.

19 Mspatmac July 11, 2011 at 1:02 pm

Ed, #17 I hope your right because that sounds like fun. If Pogo is not planning to do this, I suggest they take a hard look at your idea as it would be a great way to finish the summer.

20 gracie July 11, 2011 at 1:43 pm

I think it could possibly be a fun thing for summer or fall (coming soon) lol that we do on top of other things ~ similar to following Spike around the globe kinda thing except this is different in its own rights by getting us to do certain challenges to receive these special badges, which I would ~ they are cool! :) I have no idea on the ending with 9 thing, maybe they don’t have a 10 yet, or lol they just like to have fun and throw us a curve ball as they sometimes do and keep us guessing…..
I hope this comes soon :)
tc all

How long has pogo and FB been associated? Has it been long enough (9 months?) for a child? Or how many new games to be released? Or how many games to have ranks added? Or a book of 10 badges, with the last being a mystery? Or winners of the badge challenge in order of award, counting backwards from 9..or how many years to complete all the new challenges pogo will add…who knows???

22 Patgal52 July 11, 2011 at 4:04 pm

I seem to remember an e-mail from pogo announcing these anniversary/birthday badges. Since I discard my e-mails after I read them there is no way to check. There was a tenative schedule for the release of the first few. I beleive if you had a pogo account when the anniversary/birthday was celebrated you would automatically receive the badges as they were released. We do have the 10th anniversay badge already in case you don’t remember getting it. Sorry if I’m steering you in the wrong direction but the idea just seems to be stuck in my head. Does anyone else get e-mail from pogo & remember getting this one?

23 ouigie July 11, 2011 at 4:42 pm

I’m thinknig that the 9 special addition badges are final badges for games that will be retired by pogo.

24 Jesxplayer July 11, 2011 at 5:17 pm

I don’t see Spike in any of these badges. I know it sounds really noobish, but I don’t know how old Spike is. Is it for his number of years on Pogo?

25 ItsJustMe July 11, 2011 at 7:16 pm

The only thing there are 9 of.. at the minute.. are weekly badge albums “2003-2011″,

but that’s rather dull for them just to be newer badges for completing those albums .. lol

26 Ro July 11, 2011 at 8:56 pm

I think that the Pogo gods want BH people to come up with the challenge….LOL

Hi…I have a guess and it is just that…a guess. There is 9 weeks between July 23 (8th Anniversary) and Sept 25th (Club Pogo is turning 8). The badges seem to be associated with games 1. ? Poppit ? 2. Word Whomp 3. Tri-Peaks Solitaire 4. Tumble Bees 5. ? Dominoes ? 6. Sweat Tooth 7. Stack’ em 8. Mini Golf Madness and 9. Crazy Cakes Maybe a badge week from July 23 to Sept 25….Like I said..just a guess.

28 KatieB July 12, 2011 at 3:30 am

Here’s my 2c at 3:00 in the morning, lol….

I don’t know *what* exactly the badges may be for, but I think the challenge will go along with the number on the badge. For example, to get the badge with the #1 on it you may have to get 1 yhatzee with all 1′s; to get the badge with the #2 on it (which has a rainbow in the back, so I’m thinking Spider Solitare) maybe you have to win 2 games on med using no bonus spaces; #3 looks like it has Tex in it so I’m thinking win 3 hands with flush or better in Lost Temple Poker…. you get the picture.

As for the cake, it could be just for a game (i.e. Crazy Cakes) and have nothing to do with a pogo birthday or anniversary…….

Or maybe its 3:00 in the morning and I don’t have a clue, lol. :)

I’m going to make a further guess on my post #6

Pogo recently ran a survey about changing badge day from Wednesday, to Monday. I think that was just a stunt, Pogo had already decided to change badge day to Monday.

I believe the ‘Badge Challenge Challenge’ starts in August, and I think that is when badge day will change to Monday (there are 5 Mondays & 5 Wednesdays in August, so it would work for either day).

I think those 9 Special Edition badges, plus the one that has not been revealed yet, are to help soften the blow of changing badge day from Wednesday to Monday.

Or maybe I just need to get out more, and stop thinking so much ;-)

30 Zerp July 12, 2011 at 8:08 am

You guys talk alot about number 9, but hey! we havent even got number 1 right?
I think is something new. Were we can go from 1 to 9. And when we get the last badge, nr 9 we get a cake. ;)

31 LindaKaye49 July 13, 2011 at 12:24 am

Just food for thought….could they be awarded to people for their anniversary on pogo. #9 could of been made ahead of time for when a person reaches 9 years on pogo. Just a thought. LOL

32 Scott July 13, 2011 at 1:50 am

If,I had to Guess.I’d say some of these are Unreleased Badges for Games not yet at “POGO” and some that are already at “POGO” such as
3=Tri-Peaks Solitaire or Lost Temple Poker
4=Tumble Bees
6=Sweet Tooth or Sweet Tooth2
7=Stack’Em
9=Crazy Cakes

33 aahbeebutter July 22, 2011 at 8:23 am

my Idea maybe it`s the birth of the games .. like 9years ago all those game`s were created! :)

34 bobbi ((bjvs1118)) July 22, 2011 at 9:19 am
