When Pogo announced their iPhone app in 2010, the first question from many fans was “where’s the Android version?” Well, it’s now confirmed: Pogo is developing for Android phones.
In a job posting on the official EA Job web site, Pogo is seeking a Software Engineer for Mobile Games whose responsibility would be to “Develop and maintain iPhone/iPad/Android games”.
Most likely, the Android app will be exactly the same as the Pogo Games app on iPhone/iPod Touch, a free for Club members app offering scaled down versions of the games we currently play on Pogo.com, weekly challenges, ranks (but no rank badges), and leaderboards/sharing on Facebook.
Currently Pogo is available on the web at Pogo.com, on the iPhone as the Pogo Games app, and on Facebook. Adding Android is just another step in Pogo’s quest to be accessible everywhere.
Update 11/2/2011: According to today’s Letters to the Editor UK, there “no confirmed plans for moving to Android.” Guess the Software Engineer position was a casualty of the economy? Either way, no Android…yet. Stay tuned to BadgeHungry for more information as it becomes available.
Update 1/5/2012: According to this week’s Letters to the Editor US, “you have reason to be hopeful”.
Update 3/11/2012: It’s coming in April!
