Play Your Pogo Favorites on Facebook

by Lura on March 23, 2010 · 24 comments

The Pogo Games Application Beta went live today on Facebook. Right now you can play ten different Pogo game favorites on Facebook: Poppit, Word Whomp, Boggle Bash, First Class Solitaire, Yahtzee, Turbo 21, Trivial Pursuit, Pogo Bowl, Lost Temple Poker, and Bingo Luau. These are the same games (and same game rooms) you can access through Pogo’s web site, just “wrapped up” in Facebook’s interface, which allows for Leaderboard displays amongst you and your friends. Right now they’re granting a few extra tokens if you go through the motions of playing a game, so it’s worth it to take a look at the Pogo Games Application if you’ve got a Facebook account.

The 10 games on facebook are free Pogo games.

I like the idea I would like to see like if your a clubmember then you get maybe where you can go into games that only members that link their facebooks to pogo get to play or maybe just certainl things for them that makes it for us members feel like there is something for us paying members that isnt there for the ones just for free

@ Laura – I kinda agree. I no longer have a Facebook (I found myself checking it obsessively when I did, plus it seemed all it was was people pushing apps on me lol) and all the Facebook-on-Pogo stuff lately has been driving me rather batty. The FB buttons are EVERYWHERE, it seems. hitting them accidentally can cause some problems and annoyance, sometimes. There should be a way to get rid of them, an option to turn Pogo Facebook off. It’s supposed to be Pogo Games, not Pogobook, haha.

This seems like it could be a nice feature for Facebook-ers, though.

I don’t have a facebook account nor do I intend to get one. Not sure that matters but…

The free games- does anyone know whether facebook players are restricted to the free rooms? Or are they in the Club members rooms not seeing the commercials which is one of the benefits we Club members pay for?

Businesses need to grow, I understand that. Sometimes that happens by changing direction or obsoleting goods and services.

Possibly the EA/ Pogo ‘powers that be’ have a business plan/ agenda. Perhaps it will be a paid ‘ap’ similar to one for a Smart Phone that is purchased through facebook. Or this could simply be a marketing campaign.

I’m curious as to how the ‘powers’ see this in their plan.

I tried to play the games on there just to see what it was all about. Well, the games are too big for the screen they put them in. I can’t see the box to type in so I can chat!!! I think I would rather just go to Pogo and play there.

i can’t agree more I HATE face-bleep . i’ve never joined Never will , yes i know all about it friends and alot of my family have accounts , i hear them complaining , i hear the crap on the news . but if family and friends really mean that much to ME . i keep in real personal touch . phone , visits . these two things pogo and face-bleep SHOULD BE SEPERATE . i too will quit club pogo if this crap keeps up

Maybe I’m compulsively obsessed about this – but is THIS why we have the stupid black bars on some games & not all? To fit in over at Facebook? Ugh. Maybe if you can play the Pogo games on Facebook directly, Pogo will stop trying to make us all go over there and remove some of the stupid FB we have on every page now.

I think you got the idea Roni. Pogo Club members are supposed to tell facebook friends to pay for Pogo Club membership. I assume there will be ads too. The 10 free games are just the tease to attract New Pogo Club Members.

10 laura March 23, 2010 at 7:23 pm

danielle , ty,s for agreeing. pogo should offer a way to remove facebook from our page alltogether ,im always afraid ill hit the wrong button also and i agree there should be a way to get rid of it it,s everywhere is RIGHT ,pogo,s been pushing all sorts of things on us , whether we like it or not we as club memebers should have a choice ty

I think this is a great idea. I had practically given up on playing games at Pogo.com because I spend all my time on Facebook. I’ll definitely follow this to see what comes of it.

Does anyone know if when you are playing on the facebook site and working on a m&m badge it will count towards that? What about ranks.. Does playing on fb count for your ranks? j/w.. I have mixed emotions about the app.. It would be nice for some of my fb friends to play pogo with me… but on pogo! I have pogo.com in my Fav. tab for a reason.. To go to that site and play my games.. Idk… maybe my feelings will change.. Not to go off topic but this has been a very busy Tuesday in pogoland..

Can we please have pogo on cell phones? It’s 2010, America has “health care”, EA/Pogo needs to wake up. Pogo at one time was available on phones a few years back, wasn’t it?

14 Evil Queen March 23, 2010 at 9:09 pm

I seriously can’t stand Facebook. I refuse to do anything with it. If others do that is fine. I can can see why Pogo is going over there because as we all know there are those that get so sucked into Facebook and everything with it so its a way for them to try to pull new/old members to Club Pogo. Especially new if club members are already there and showing games to friends on FB. So obviously for Pogo its another way to bring in business for them. I am disappointed that this was their big news today. Was hoping for something else.
And like Jeremy #13 posted, pogo for the phones would be great! I would love to be able to play it on my blackberry when I’m out somewhere. This is something that should be done.

It seems to me that Pogo did this connect thing with FB to try to get new Club Pogo members from the FB pool. In my opinion though, it seems to have backfired. I see way less people on my Pogo friends lists every day, and they all say its because they’re on FB all day and night. I’ve also heard that leagues that hold tournaments in Pogo are suffering due to their players being on FB rather than Pogo lately. I have a FB account, but really dont care for FB, so I havent and wont link my Pogo and FB accounts. To me, FB is just virus ridden, as many people have viruses that they may not even realize, and then post things in FB for random people to click on. Weird things have happened to me from clicking on peoples pics in FB and stuff. I wonder if Pogo realizes that instead of drawing FB people to Pogo, they’ve really only driven Pogo people to FB.

I honestly can’t understand what the big deal is with Face Book. From reading these posts I get the idea that people are on Face Book ALL DAY! Don’t you have a place to clean, laundry to do, meals to cook, children to take care of? Geesh! Guess it’s just me, but what’s the difference playing on Face Book anyway? Why would you want to play POGO games on your cell phone on a tiny screen? I may be old fashioned but my laptop is fine with me and that Farming Game on Face Book? UGH! What a boring game…my friends are addicted to that junk! Can someone explain this Face Book phenomonen to me?? HAGD all!

17 Jenni March 24, 2010 at 10:07 am

Wow, some people are really angry about Facebook.

Personally, I like Pogo and I like FB. Will I use the Pogo app? No, because I do not use any FB apps (Farmville, Mafia Wars, Horoscopes, etc.,) and Pogo will not be an exception.

The word “Facebook” has permeated the Pogo site; however it does not hamper my enjoyment of Pogo. I simply ignore it. I don’t find the FB buttons on Pogo to be problematic; I have yet to click on one accidentally.

Layla (#21) and others: One of the many reasons I enjoy FB is because it allows me to reconnect with long lost friends. I moved across country twice during my High School years and lost touch with some very dear people. Yes, I still go out, do things, clean my house, do the laundry, cook meals, go on walks with my husband and my dogs. I also run a medical billing service from home and I am working on my Masters in English Lit. Suffice it to say, Facebook has not taken over my life. When going away on vacation, or the weekend, it is not difficult to leave FB (or Pogo) behind. I do not use mobile apps for FB or Pogo.

I have somewhere around 60-70 “friends” and they are all people I know in real life. Most are very close to me; for instance, family. Others I have not seen in some 20 years. FB has allowed me to stay in touch with these people in a manner that was impossible before. For whatever reason, ordinary news (and pictures), such as first teeth, ballet recitals, soccer goals, etc., etc., does not seem incidental when posted on FB. Yesterday I saw pictures of my cousin’s daughter’s 5th birthday party (we live 1500 miles apart.) Although my cousin and I talk on the phone, visit each other, and email back and forth, I did not see any pictures of birthdays 1-4. In these little ways, FB has brought my family closer together.

For anyone who is quick to belittle a FB user, I would say that plenty of people think those who play computer games need to “get a life.” While some sit in judgment of FB users, just as many people sit in judgment of Pogo players. Both FB and Pogo are valid forms of entertainment.

I like Facebook. :] When I finished high school, I immediately packed up and moved across the country. Facebook is nice because I can catch up with all of my friends in one place. I also found a bunch of family I didn’t know existed, including a half sister I never new I had. That said, I don’t play with any of the apps…I use it strictly as an easy way to keep in touch with people I may never get the chance to actually visit. This new Pogo games on Facebook thing was mentioned on the beta site as something they’d like us to check out, but I don’t plan on it. I guess it is a little annoying that so many sites seem to be bending over backwards for Facebook, but I have found that it’s very easy to ignore.

19 HomelessDog March 24, 2010 at 7:35 pm

Elizabeth, I don’t think that Pogo is driving people over to Facebook. People are moving to Facebook on their own with or without Pogo, and Pogo is realizing that. Anyone that knows me knows how addicted I was to Pogo. Facebook replaced my Pogo addiction. I went from buying every single Mix-N-Match challenge badge to not purchasing a single gem this year. Pogo is losing a lot of business due to Facebook and they’re trying whatever they can to gain some of that market share back. Facebook has become The place to go for social gaming, so if a social gaming website like pogo.com wants to stay alive it needs to change it’s market strategy or it will not survive.

20 Elizabeth March 25, 2010 at 9:23 am

Homelessdog, I understand what you’re saying, but you yourself are the proof of my point. You were doing the FB thing before the Pogo integration, but there were oodles of people who werent. I know Pogo isnt forcing anyone to do FB instead, all I’m saying is that exposing Pogo players (that hadnt been doing FB before) to it has NOT accomplished what I believe they intended, which is to get the FB people to join Club Pogo. Instead, the Club Pogo members are spending all their time (and NO MONEY) on FB apps. I have no problem with how anyone chooses to spend their time and/or money, I just feel like if Pogos intent was to get new members from the FB pool, the opposite has happened. This, of course, is just MY opinion. I’m not asking anyone to agree or disagree. LOL

I have read some of the forums on pogo and the one here. I get why pogo is doing this but there are a few things I do not get. I posted these things on pogo forums and I will here. Maybe I can get someone to explain this to me.
I am not a facbook person! Just to be upfront about it. But i do have a question. From what I have read here, pogo has joined up with facebook so you can play pogo games on that site so you can be with your fb friends. Okay I get that but this is what I do not get. When playing on fb you don’t show to be on pogo. HUH did I get this right? Pogo is seperating itself. I enjoy playing with my friends too, but I hate fb. So what I am getting from this is if I want to be with my POGO friends that are on fb ( and they decide it is more fun to play on fb) I have to join fb!!!????? What?? I must of misunderstood something someone please help me out here.
thank you heart

this is what i got as a reply on pogo forums to my above questions.
“If you are in a Pogo game room with on Pogo.com or on Pogo Games on Facebook you will show in Friends list as normal. So unless you have some kind of filtering enabled, you should still show up on the Friends list.
As far as the ads for our Facebook offering, these are simply making our members aware of the offering. Not everyone is going to partake. Not everyone plays for badges, not everyone dresses up their Minis, not everyone will use Expressions, not everyone cares about tokens, and not everyone will play Pogo Games on Facebook. But we adverstise these features and events so people who might be interested know that they exist. ”

my reply back to them.

Thank you for clearing up the pogo friends list thing for me.
Here is the thing, it is told to paying members we pay so we do not get hit with ads. When playing as a non member I am sure not everyone partakes in those ads. Face book is not part of pogo, it is seperate from pogo and I don’t think it is ea owned either. So now pogo is going back on their word of no ads to paying members by placing facebook partaking in it or not does not matter.
However, Mini items, m&m badges, and premium badge albums are part of pogo. They are not ads per se but more of look at what all is here and being offered.
Two seperate issues not one huge lump.

Well I agree with all and can see both sides .. never thought about advertising for fb and THAT is a valid point nooo adv for members. I was just on fb the pogo.com page or whatever its called and this is what I saw: “Use Facebook to make a FREE Pogo account”. My pogo membership is up next month do I look into this playing for FREE?? there is something I am missing. I am a member of fb and ONLY use it for family and friends to stay in touch and MAINLY its awesome to share a photo I took today with a whole bunch of ppl at once. BUT I have never ever opened an application and tell these ppl to kindly Not send me that stuff. SO do I want to Now use an application because its pogo…. gosh I just don’t see it happening. I do so much LOVE BadgeHungry for so much insight that can be gained and only been on here for a couple weeks. Thank you all for opinions, help, info, etc its so wonderful.

24 mrssgrvs March 27, 2010 at 7:21 pm

when playing the FREE pogo games on facebook, it does count towards ranks. i really don’t see the big deal. to me, the more people becoming members means more money for pogo which in turn we get more kool things added. it is really kool to play, especially since it works towards ranks. now badge progress i’m not sure. actually gonna go now & see if i have a badge in one of the games, will update on whether it works towards progress or not!!
