Pogo Mini Snapshot: Snowpocalypse Now!Happy Weekend Everyone!

That groundhog wasn’t kidding this week — he popped out of his hole, saw his shadow, and predicted six more weeks of winter. Those six weeks are starting off with a bang: the East Coast is preparing for a monster storm. Snowmageddon ‘10, bring it on!

There have been a few promos this week that you might be interested in. If you haven’t seen all of the posts this week, be sure to check out the most recent posts in the promotions and events category; I’ve filed away a few coupon codes to save on Mix-n-Match badges, promos, and sweepstakes in there that you may have missed. Also, there’s a link for 25,000 free tokens for Valentine’s Day on the free tokens page!

I’m always asking people for suggestions for the upcoming weekend open thread topic questions and a few weeks back, Kevin B. suggested this great one:

Which game(s) made you become a Pogo member?

Let us know in a comment below, or feel free to ask any burning questions that didn’t fit in the other open posts this week.

See you in the comments!

A Topic , That I wish Pogo To answer,

Why we can’t win some old beautiful ” Speacial Edition Badges ” , from years ago. A speacial challenge or use Gems , to acquire this Badges.

I would have to say Lottso! would be the game that made me become a member. I am still working on it for ranks, too!
Have a great weekend all!

I started with ones I was familiar with, such as payday free cell soli, spider soli, and all the other solitaire games. Then, there were the card games such as spades, gin, cribbage, etc. The third category was word games. The first word game i enjoyed (and one I still enjoy, but no badges for it) was bookworm. This has taken me to word whomp, scrabble, word jong, word craft, qwerty and all the rest. I expanded by starting the weekly challenges and finding new games to broaden my pogo experience.

Cheryl 02.05.10 at 1:49 pm

It wasn’t the games per say that made me join Club Pogo. I was excited about the “icon” badges, but the biggest draw was all the wonderful people I had met at Pogo. They were, and still are, the main reason I play at Pogo every day. Love the company AND the games.

Faith 02.05.10 at 1:52 pm

I started playing Tri-Peaks for a while and loved it. But it wasn’t until Pogo sent me an email for a 5-day free pass to play Lottso! that I finally decided to join the club. Now I am a true addict for badges and tokens. Stay safe East Coasters. Gb

6

Jenn M 02.05.10 at 2:03 pm

Tri-Peaks was the game that convinced me to join, but it was Canasta and Jungle Gin that got me to stay.

watchfan72 02.05.10 at 2:19 pm

i would have to say the game i love the most is pogo bowl allso word whomp

kiki 02.05.10 at 2:19 pm

Tumble Bees and Word Whomp were my free Pogo lures. I couldn’t get enough of either one, and when my sister gave me a Christmas present subscription 5 years ago, my fate was cast.

Anniversary badges (those Special Edition badges) are made to commemorate a particular date/time/holiday and won’t be seen again, but rest in the knowledge that you will certainly get some in the future that new members down the line will covet as you are now.

Legittx 02.05.10 at 2:26 pm

There was no specific game .. I only used to play Spades in Yahoo and then someone mentioned that in Pogo you can set your own options so I decided to check it out … played spades for almost 3 years and then I kept seeing all these different badges in the rooms so decided to check it out. I had also lost my youngest son in 2004 and didn’t know what to do with myself and my grief … so that is when I got involved with Club Pogo and now am a badge addict lol

WORD RIOT! In the old days WORD RIOT was one wild game to play. I played with a whole group of people almost every night, but the fighting go to be too much and Pogo took it down. At that time there was a boot button, where you could boot someone out if they were causing trouble. I believe it took a majority in the room to boot someone but boy was that cool.

I really miss the old days of WORD RIOT and the group of people I played with on several occastions. I am still in contact with one of the regulars to this day.

Kind of a long story really so I am going to try and shorten it. I first joined Pogo about 6 years ago, maybe even 7, and played Pool and Cribbage. Found a regular room and had lots of laughs and made loads of new friends, joined the league and had a blast. They had all joined Club Pogo and I was curious so one of my friends sent me a pass, I loved it but at that point couldn’t see me paying when there where free games. I must have gone through about 100 names and used all these passes on them thanks to my friends, but about 5 years ago a really awful person started stalking my friends, was extrememly rude and hurtful and we all went our seperate ways. It was at this point I decided to join Club Pogo. I had 4 days left on a pass and completed my weekly badges and a personal and then started playing Jungle Gin and became hooked, paid for Pogo and have now become a Pogo Addict and a badge addict.

Still miss the old days and all the old friends I made, haven’t spoken to them now probably for at least 3 years, often wonder what happened to them and how they are, but I have made plenty of new friends whom I have a great laugh with!

sassy 02.05.10 at 2:43 pm

I was playing In Vaults of Atlantis when a kind lady gave me a 5 day free pass and that was all it took. Loved it from the get go..the badges, the minis, playing all the different games. Some I had never played before, but learned in order to achieve that badge…lol.

13

Marianne 02.05.10 at 2:50 pm

Hog Heaven was the hook for me. Had to have those piggies! And Squelchies too . . . . does anyone know what those little fishies are saying??? :)

14

Nicole 02.05.10 at 3:00 pm

A classmate at tech school at the time was playing on Pogo, and it happened to be Poppit. Been hooked ever since.

15

tigger 02.05.10 at 3:26 pm

cant remember what game got me hooked, i dont think i was a free member though, think i joined club when i found site..great to have u bk lura!!!

16

Vics 02.05.10 at 3:27 pm

Poppit was the game that got me hooked….

17

MomsBassetHound 02.05.10 at 3:32 pm

It wasnt a specific game that made me to decide to join. It was the fun of earning the badges. I had a couple of friends that were members and I would do their badges while they were working. After a few weeks it didnt seem fair that I was doing all their badges and they were left with nothing to do, so I joined.
I joined in 2004, the end of October, so there are a few special edition badges that I dont have. I would love to be able to get them, but they wouldnt be special if they offered them again.
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!
Suz

Tanya 02.05.10 at 3:39 pm

When I started playing Pogo, the games I played were, the old Bookworm and the old Turbo 21 . . . the game that made me become a member was, Tri-Peaks; one day my mom was playing it, and I asked her what was that noise . . . I took a look at her computer screen, went to my computer, and joined. Also, like Cheryl #4, the badge icons intrigued me.

19

Kelly 02.05.10 at 3:44 pm

My first game that I ever played was bingo. Not Everyone wins bingo or any other kind just regular bingo. I played for hours with a couple of friends. When I noticed a few more coming out and tried them and got hooked. Going on almost 8 years now and still going! Have a great weekend all!

20

Frank 02.05.10 at 4:07 pm

The first game I ever played on Pogo was Dominoes. Then a friend gave me a free five-day pass and I started earning badges (my first in Dominoes) and then I got addicted to Penguin Blocks for quite a long time. That game actually made me buy my year-long membership.

21

Eric 02.05.10 at 4:21 pm

I played Word Whomp and Poppit in college…and remember also playing the original version of Word Riot…and all the arguments that ensued.

I hadnt played for a a few years after college, and a co-worker said Hey, you shourl try Pogo. I found out I already had a name on there…she encouraged me to play Lottso and I tried Makeover Madness and I was hooked the minute I got my first badge and rank notification.

22

Kevin B. 02.05.10 at 4:22 pm

Since I was the one that posed the question, I will have to confess…

I was playing for free at Pogo, got a two week Club Pogo pass from them, and discovered Hog Heaven slots.

Oh my… I think my tail end grew roots in my computer chair. When the free two weeks were up, my wife gave me a year of Pogo as a gift. Since she has not divorced me yet, Ill take that as a sign she (sort of) does not resent my pursuit of badges, etc.

Have a safe weekend everyone. We are due about two feet of snow in the next 36 hours.

23

Lily 02.05.10 at 4:35 pm

when i started as a free player i was hooked on yahtzee, then one day an ad showed to play mono slots but only for members. and im a huge monopoly fan so i wanted to see how the slots worked. thats when i joined.

24

Zigg 02.05.10 at 4:36 pm

I joined Pogo back way in 2001, before Club Pogo was a glimmer, then joined the Club and have been a member since its beginning. Dont remember which game I played first but I did remember was fed up with the drama at Yahoo since they brought on the stupid provisioned ranking status. Its also nice that you can change some of the rules in the games which can make it more fun. Kudos to Pogo and kudos to Lura too!

25

Monica 02.05.10 at 4:40 pm

I joind club pogo so that I could play gin with my husband

26

Jan in Denver 02.05.10 at 4:42 pm

This is a very interesting topic. Thanks, Kevin B.! I cant say that it was any one game. I played a lot of the puzzle games for months as a free member. As I recall it was a combo of increasing annoyance of having to wait through those commercial interruptions and a join now for $19.99 banner ad that finally had me pulling the trigger on becoming a Club Pogo member. Then, I discovered the weekly challenge badges and, as they say, the hook was in!

Looks like a good weekend for those of you on the US East Coast to stay inside and play Pogo! That is as long as the electricity stays on! Growing up on a farm in Minnesota, I lived through many a blizzard by candle light. Blizzards in Denver are more rare.

27

Dave 02.05.10 at 4:50 pm

The very first game that got my attention was Poppit, and of course the badge icons caught my attention. Have A Great Weekend ev1! And dont get snowed in if your out east!

28

mytoesarecold 02.05.10 at 4:53 pm

I had been playing the free games from time to time and while the ads were annoying, I didnt think it was worth paying to join. Then Pogo had a few days there when you could pay Addiction Solitaire and Heavenly Hogs. I was hooked but the real clincher was they reduced the membership fee by $10. So I signed up and a few months later, I gave my hubby a gift subscription. Now he plays even more than I do. In fact, there are some evenings, usually Wednesday when the new badges come out, that I talk more to him on Pogo chat than I do in person.

29

Deb 02.05.10 at 5:14 pm

It wasnt one of the games specifically that got me to join. A friend had to be away and asked me to get her weekly badges for her as a favor. I dont remember what the games were, but boy was I hooked! Its Mahjong Garden and the word games and the tokens that keep me coming back.

30

watchfan72 02.05.10 at 5:50 pm

i all so love to get tokens i just made it over 30,000,000 pogo tokens and yes i do love the badges try and try but allways get them in the end

31

NLinda 02.05.10 at 5:56 pm

A friend had received a subscription to Pogo for Christmas and mentioned how much she enjoyed it, even though at that time all she played was bingo. I was curious so I checked out the free games and got hooked on Vaults of Atlantis, which I haven’t played for ages once I discovered all the other games. Can’t say it was so much the game I was hooked on, it was more the people and following the chat. I didn’t participate in the chat for quite a while, just observed and learned some of the ‘lingo’. As with some of the rest of you, I got tired of the ad interruptions and wanted some of the other ‘perks’ of being a member, so after a few months of playing free finally bit the bullet & joined.

Pogo soon became an addiction and I even got that friend to expand her horizons and play something other than bingo! We both go after the weekly badges now, though neither of us have started buying the badge albums. I bought my husband a subscription to Pogo when they had them on sale this last Christmas, he has been slow to get going, but is getting more interested (this is the first week that he has finished all his badges himself). Of course I may have created a monster, if we both sit around playing Pogo all the time who is going to do the chores?? Too bad we can’t use those Pogo tokies to pay for maid service!

Enjoy your weekend everyone.

Marithoner 02.05.10 at 6:00 pm

Jungle Jin was my weakness and Hog Heaven Slots…took me a while to realize that there were badges to be had…turns out to be my achilles heel, too.

33

gjb1443 02.05.10 at 6:05 pm

For me it was Hog Heaven and Lottso that got me hooked. I ranked out in lottso within a year.

Badges and the nice people on Pogo keep me coming back. Have met many wonderful people on pogo. Which has led to some real life friendships.

I was a big Mahjong fan on another game site when I found pogo which was
far superior. Started playing Mahjong safari and Mahjong garden as a free user. Got annoyed with all the intermissions and commercials so became a member, something I will never regret. Took a while to understand and get into to badge thing….now Im addicted with 500 + badges in less than a year.

35

Jeannie 02.05.10 at 7:08 pm

A member friend showed me the site. The first game I played was Poppit! All those wonderful balloons pop, pop, popping!! Kept coming back as a free member until there was a special offered and I could not resist. I work all day and playing these games is a great way to relax. Plus, I have met some of the most wonderful people on here. This year a group of us met at the Daytona 500 and we had a blast!!! Everyone in the NE take care – gonna be a snowy one this weekend!!

36

mspatmac 02.05.10 at 7:38 pm

I have been playing at the Pogo site since 2001. TriPeaks was what got me hooked. I was playing at the site PopCaps and prople were talking about Pogo. I checked it out and that was the beginning of my addiction! Loved the games and the people. When they introduced the Club it was a no brainer for me as I certainly get my monies worth.

I am not good at card games, hearts and spades make my head spin but I can get through Canasta (for a badge of course) Like the puzzle type games the best, love those penguines and solitare games.

37

Ammarylis 02.05.10 at 7:45 pm

The first games i really played when i joined Pogo were Monopoly and Lottso! Express.I’ve always loved Monopoly and Lottso Ex has just made its debut.Iwas addicted.Right around that same time was when they had a 2 week Club Pogo pass and i applied.I haven’t looked back since.I love being able to play club exclusive games and earning/buying badges.I’ve even got my husband into it so he plays pogo games with me now.

38

llinda871 02.05.10 at 8:26 pm

It was no particular game that got me interested but CURIOSITY about the games I could only play if I was a member. At that time I could only see the names of games that I couldn’t play and it really ticked me off so when I was playing in a room with a Club Member I kept asking questions about the games and she sent me a 5-day pass with the requirement that when I joined (as she knew I would) I also pass out my free passes to others, and that was that. Since I’ve joined the Club I’ve gone into many nonmember rooms and offered my monthly free passes freely to anyone who wanted to try it. Lots have joined and some never used the pass, but I passed it along like I agreed. Its been well worth it financially to me since playing Pogo and reading are my only recreations I can afford on my $193.00 a month pension and thanks to Subway I now have 7 free Club Pogo years ahead of me. Pass out those monthly free passes you get and maybe the prices of gems/badges/albums will not go up in the future when more people join. I’m in Michigan and don’t think we’ll be getting as much snow as those south of us, strange as that may seem. Be safe all and stay home if you don’t have to go out. Glad you’re back Lura and what is your son’s name and is he your only child? There goes my curiosity again – lol.

39

RV60 02.05.10 at 9:04 pm

Hog Heaven was what got me hooked. I spent an entire weekend when my husband was out of town doing nothing but playing Hog Heaven. I loved it and didnt understand why. Gradually branched out to other games. I love the weekly challenges more for the fact it gets you trying other games even more than collecting the badges.

Have a great weekend all.

40

tcfox 02.05.10 at 9:30 pm

Welcome back congrats Lura!!! You was missed ;)

I was playing on a site called At the Crossroads (now Garfield Games) back in 2001 and someone mentioned in their forum a new word game they found called Word Whomp that was a ton of fun. Being a word game addict I thought I would check it out. They did not steer me wrong the rest is history.

I did eventually join Club Pogo to avoid the intermissions, but most of the Club perks are wasted on me. I do enjoy a few Club only games, but dont care that much about the badges or the mini stuff. I see Im clearly among the minority in this bunch….lol

Have a safe weekend everyone for those in the path of the storm, please be careful.

41

NewPuzzle 02.05.10 at 9:33 pm

Played the free game of Vaults of Atlantis and was pleased with how close it was to a live casino slot game. Didnt like setting through the ads so much..lol..Then along came Hog Heaven!! Oh I wanted to play it so much, but didnt want to pay for a membership. Finally gave in one day when chemo treatment had slowed me down to sitting at my desk, searaching to find something to do to cheer myself up. Best money I spent in my life.. Enjoy so many pogo games and all the new friends Ive made. Going on 4 years now and I still love to hear those piggies squeal…

42

Serena 02.05.10 at 10:22 pm

For me, it was Sweet Tooth 2 and Mahjong Safari. Even though both games can be played on a free account – when my guest pass had expired, I missed having the ability to rank up. The badge hound factor didnt come in until a few months later, but I do now like collecting them. Aside from two mix-and-match badges that I got from the free promotions during December, I mostly just collect weekly and special edition badges.

Im just about caught up with Jigsaw Detective, finally. Ill be so happy to see all the cases closed.

43

Will 02.05.10 at 10:25 pm

I first join pogo to play spades. While playing spades i noticed that club pogo members could use those awesome chat icons. i mean who does not love the dancing cactus, and of course all the other ones too. Since joining club pogo I could never go back. You know once you go club theres no turning back lol.

44

Evil Queen 02.05.10 at 10:33 pm

For me I started playing it because of Mahjong Garden. I had been signed up with EA because of playing Sims games. They sent me a 2 week free Club Pogo Trial and that is how it started. I got hooked on getting the badges. Which was a given considering I have been that way long before that with an MMO. LOL

45

Earlene 02.05.10 at 10:55 pm

I became a member because of the ads jumping around on the screen. One of them always caused the game to freeze. But Im an addicted Badge Hound now!! I know one thing the Squelchies are saying, when I win, they say thats not funny. I laugh and talk back to them.

46

Frances 02.06.10 at 12:10 am

Monopoly is the game that lured me to pogo but I joined club pogo to get rid of the ads.

47

Jamie W 02.06.10 at 12:46 am

I had been playing spider solitaire on another site and had some issues with them, so I wanted to find a new place to play. My best friend suggested Pogo. So I immediately tried the free 2 week pass they offered when you joined. Being on dial up at the time made me really appreciate no ads. SO after learning about the badges and minis, I was hooked. I cant imagine not having my club pogo membership now.

48

psalm233 02.06.10 at 2:28 am

I have to poppit was my draw to pogo, then I played club pogo on a free week (a pogo promo at the time) , I was totally hooked on hog heaven. I have ranked out almost on the second rank out. I absoutlly love the people on pogo I have met some really GREAT friends for life. I have to say once I joined now I am a true badge addict and shopaholic. i just celebrated my 1st year and looking forward to many many more years. HABW E1

Becky 02.06.10 at 6:12 am

I was in a frantic state of working myself to frazzle, preparing for retirement and training the person that would be taking over my job when I retired. Everyone said I was one of those people that could not retire and relax and I was determined I could. I was on AOL and saw a game called Spooky Slots which really grabbed my attention and I played through the AOL site for free. That was the beginning, then I noticed the badge icons that everyone had but me and I searched through computer sites trying to find them not knowing that this was a POGO bonus.

The week before my retirement POGO offered a 30 day free trial and I was hooked after that. I have to say I really enjoy the badges and challenges of ranking out games and work on each game trying to max them out. I guess I will have to get a job again when I rank them all out but that wont be for a long time. I am addicted to POGO and it keeps me from wanting to get back out in the hectic world that I had created for myself.

Also, I would like to thank you for this site Lura and congrats on the new addition to your family. Happy weekend all.

50

shygram 02.06.10 at 6:52 am

My sister got me started on POGO as she gave me a subscription for my birthday. My first game was Canasta since I really like card games. I moved on the slots and found Hog Heaven, but since I had limited tokens to play with continued going back to Canasta to refresh my token count. I am totally addicted to POGO as the first thing I do in the morning with my coffee is Word Search Daily. It is fun to be able to play with people who reside outside the US.

POGO will definitely be my companion today as I am snowed in to the point, at the present time, cannot open any of my doors to the outside. Weatherman was not kidding when he said blizzard.

51

Snowyjoke 02.06.10 at 7:01 am

The brother from my husband lett us know about this site and we play Pogo Bowl with the whole family. It was so nice to play and talk together, that we decided to buy an subsription. This was in 2006, now I like to play so much as I can and have a lot of friends here. Like to play for all the badges and try to get them all. Its realy adicted but I dont care, I love pogo.

Lura, Im glad you are back and congratulations with the new born baby. Enjoy it and give him a lot of love and a big hug from me. They are so cute ;-)

52

boo 02.06.10 at 7:20 am

53

twttr 02.06.10 at 7:28 am

I came in to club pogo on a 14 day trial and started playing Hog Heavens. Met so many wonderful friends that in a week I knew I couldnt give it up so I joined right away. Havent regretted it either.

54

Genevieve 02.06.10 at 7:46 am

Good Morning from snowy Virginia, I agree with Pogo Nut, I do wish Pogo would give us the option of obtaining some of the older badges. Poppit was the game that got me hooked. Take care everyone and be safe.

55

DebbieSLP 02.06.10 at 7:52 am

My husband and I used to play on Slingo. When he hurt his back and had to be off his feet for a couple of months, he discovered Pogo and sent me a free pass.

The first game we played together was Qwerty, but his favorite was Hog Heaven and thats what got me hooked. Ranked out on that pretty fast, then started on Yahtzee Party, Monopoly Slots, Word Whomp (another favorite of DHs), Scrabble and a few others.

I didnt care about badges for a year or so, but once I started doing them, I started finding enjoying lots of other games I never would have tried.

MY DH and I have different styles — he will lock onto a favorite game and play it almost exclusively for months (along with doing weekly badges). The current one is Canasta, and hell keep playing even after ranking out. I have a ton of rotating favorites and cycle through them, so I have not ranked out in any more, even after a couple years playing.

Havent used gems yet — I only do weekly and free badges — but I fear that addiction is coming next!

56

Richard K. Imel 02.06.10 at 8:32 am

It really was not a game that made me join. I was a pogo member when Pogo first started over 10 years ago. When they were getting ready to start Club Pogo, the biggest draw for that for me was the NO ADVERTISEMENTS between games/rounds for the games Pogo had then. If memory serves me right, it was only $9.99 or $19.99 a year for membership. I was one of the very first. Everyone said I was insame to pay to play games. Well, when they started the badges at the same time it FAST became addicting and all my friends saying they would not pay to play joined also, lol. It is hard for most players to understand that I have never had a personal challenge to do. So it was the weekly challenges/badges that hooked me. Love the mix match and premium books. I have everyone ever offered. I have spent a fortune on Pogo!!. I live on Pogo all day. I feel like they are Family. I think I will list Club Pogo as a survivor in my Obituary. LOL

57

Nyurdreems 02.06.10 at 8:48 am

I love multi-line slots so for me it was Vaults of Atlantis that got me hooked.

58

bbmom 02.06.10 at 8:48 am

I joined to get rid of the ads. Didn’t even know about badges at that point. I waited until the $10 off deal and joined immediately. Now this is my relax time in front of the TV.

59

RV60 02.06.10 at 9:57 am

Has anyone besides me opted for the 25,000 free UK Valentines tokens, and though they said you have been awarded them they never show up in your total of tokens? It’s happened to me before with free tokens, never could figure out what I might be doing wrong.???????
Just curious. Thanks

60

Paulette 02.06.10 at 10:02 am

In January, 2004 I became a Pogo Member because I got hooked on Tripeak. I also got my sister hooked on the game. Ha!Ha!

61

mert 02.06.10 at 10:02 am

I joined club pogo so i could get the tractor in havest mania..lol and loved poppit and world class sol. was my draw. Now i’m a badge hound.
Happy to see you back Lura and congrats on the new babe!

62

Richard 02.06.10 at 10:46 am

I started playing after a friend told me about Pogo. I was hooked from that day on. But I am getting slightly upset at Pogo. the Customer Service has certainly gone downhill. Why can we no longer buy T Shirts or Hats from Pogo? they closed the store and I have been on for 4 years and NEVER won a Hat or a T Shirt. I even suggested they sell the graphics on line so we can download and print it on to an Iron On Transfer. They would never have to keep an inventory, but still get the benfit of the free advertising, but this was totally ignored, like everything else on Pogo.

I have been going to I Win.com and even though there is not the nice chat option, the Customer Service if I have a problem is superior to anything I have seen at all.

Pogo is slipping badly and I think they are taking us for granted far too much, that could be a mistake.

mspatmac 02.06.10 at 10:48 am

OK maybe I’m just dense but when I kept seeing the code for the new Monopoly movers was coming soon, I thought it was actually coming soon! Then I read this from Lura “You’ve been waiting a long time for this! We are delighted to announce that the new movers for MONOPOLY Here & Now: The World Edition is Coming Soon! RV60 #59. A few times that happened to me. The only thing I could see that was different was that I was in a game room playing a game at the time. Ever since then I make sure I am not in a room already when I go for the free tokens….and have always gotten them after that. gl

Did anyone besides me have trouble getting into perfect pair this week. I was not able to play it kept saying application could not run. Pogo is still trying to find out why. I was just wondering if it was just me or anyone else? Also, I join pogo after playing Slingo and some other games someone gave me a free pass and I got hooked.

67

Natika 02.06.10 at 11:59 am

I clicked on the NEW *Takeda Promo* added on 1/6, and I got the Pogo page that says: *OOPS! Something is not right…The page you requested could not be found.

Please check the URL for proper spelling and capitalization. If you’re having trouble finding a particular page try visiting the
Pogo.com home page or sitemap

Maybe somebody could fix this?

I played on Pogo for several months before becoming a member. I usually played in the Free Cell Flower Garden Room. When someone gave me a free pass, I tried Jungle Gin, and got HOOKED. I joined Pogo in March of ‘04, so, my six year anniversary will be coming soon. LOL It’s hard to believe how time has flown. I now have ALL of my badge albums filled, and keep up my weekly badges the day they come out. I don’t bother with buying badges, or buying gems, because I think $40./year is enough to pay for what we get. I can say that Pogo has been a lifesaver for me. I had an accident in Feb. ‘07, which left me disabled. Pogo has filled many MANY empty hours. I am DEFinitely a Pogo ADDICT. LOL

Gee… I sure hope someone can fix that broken link <<>> ;)

PS …
I also do the daily Trivial Pursuit and Crossword Cove, which helps build my tokie account. But, without the AWESOME people who compile and list the answers, I wouldn’t be able to do that. So … KUDOS to EVERYone that makes my tokie life FULL. TYVM :D:D:D

Lura 02.06.10 at 12:12 pm

Natika: that “broken link” you described is just what happens when a token offer expires. I don’t always have time to go through the list, so I appreciate you letting me know. I’ve removed the link. Feel free to let me know via email or comment if you find any other broken links.

just wanted to say why we cant get more tha 1 album. i became a club pogo member because of badges and the challenges.

71

SAZLdy 02.06.10 at 12:49 pm

It wasn’t a game that got me hooked on pogo. I was running a very old slow computer on dial up and the ads would run across the top of the page and slow my computer down so much that I couldn’t play the game. Someone gave me a free pass and I tried it and I could play games that I was unable to play with the ads. To me it was worth the yearly fee so I could play without my computer freezing and locking up all the time so I could play whatever I wanted.

Sheljin 02.06.10 at 12:55 pm

Great topic, thanks Lura & Kevin B! Kevin, where are you and how have you done with the snow? I’m in north/central Jersey and we really dodged a bullet, but south Jersey was hit hard and I heard Maryland was in a state of emergency – good luck everyone in the full path of this storm.

I started on Pogo in 2001. I used to play hearts against my computer, but got a hankering to play some backgammon. Did an online search and found Pogo. After about 6 months of sporadic playing, I started playing more often…got hooked on a trivia game-blanking on the name right now; it has since been cancelled. Thru some of my friends there, I started playing hearts and someone mentioned the slots games. I dabbled there for just a little bit, then noticed roulette. My dad always played in Atlantic City, so I thought I would check it out. Got totally hooked. Similar to a few stories already here, found a GREAT group of friends and had lots of fun for years. Lots of drama would come & go, though, and at one point, a group came in and ended up ruining it for everyone (long story for another day). Anyway, around this time, the Club was introduced and though most of us said, “No way – pay for games?? pffft!”, we soon found we could escape some of the drama in club-only rooms.

I used guest passes like everyone, got some cute badges on different names, but thinking back, I don’t think it was any one game I HAD to play. It was realizing some of those cute badges were never going to be seen again……I couldn’t stop thinking about it. lol

So, about a year after the Club was first issued, I joined so I could get the African Voyages special edition badge – I joined July, 2004. I used a different name from my original pogo name – again, because of the ongoing trouble/drama from the roulette room. I missed that I couldn’t use my original name……and like others here have said, I miss that I lost contact with alot of really nice people. But some of us are still in touch, and I gained that love of badges and new friends, too. I especially love that I have tried every game there has been a badge on, and found some new favorites that way too.

Even after buying into the Club, I SWORE I would never pay more for badges. lol lol Of course, now I spend more on gems than I ever thought possible. But I did hold out, at least for a time – there are definitely many retired badges I never even considered buying. I know that’s what makes some of these special…..that they were only available for a limited time. But, now that I’m hooked, I think Pogo is missing out on a source of income not thinking about releasing them again in some way. lol Perhaps it could be a jackpot spin option – free retired badge. That might be kewl. lol

Enjoy your weekends, everyone.

The reason I started playing Pogo was because my nana recommended it to me.Here are a few of the games that I origanlly played,Tri-Peaks,Poppit,Canasta, and TP.Ever since then I have benn a pogo and badge addict.

Natika 02.06.10 at 1:53 pm

Dear Lura,
TYVM for responding, and letting me know what happened to the *broken link*. I’ve gotten that message before, but I never knew exactly what it meant.

Didn’t it say it was added on 1/6? How could it be expired already? I think today is the 6th, isn’t it? Was that from last year?

Also, I do not have your email address. I see that other people email you, but I thought your email address was a private thing. I don’t believe I have ever seen it listed on this site.

And, btw… CONGRATULATIONS on your *new addition*. I’m sure you already realized that your life will never be the same. One bit of advice from a mom of 3 boys … DON’T BLINK!!! If you do, he will be grown. I used to yell at my boys: *GROW UP!!!* Then, I blinked… and they DID. Give him a great big hug and kiss from me, and give yourself one, too!

Keep up the good work… You’re doing a GREAT JOB!!! ;)

I think Poppit must have made me join.
I work hard and the idea of destroying little innocent balloons was preferable to destroying my horrible wench of a boss, whom I called, “The Devil Wears Payless.”
I quit that job, but I still like to take out my frustrations on those little balloons.

Carol B 02.06.10 at 2:30 pm

Congratulations Lura and welcome back! Welcome back everyone! Ive missed reading everyones games tips and comments.

In the Jan 20th Letter to the UK editor, he wrote that Pogo is giving a hiatus to the Bingo Nights and Game of the Month promotions. This is an excerpt from the response to Monika:

Regarding Bingo Nights, weve decided to give the promotion something of a hiatus. We ran the regular Bingo Nights for some two years (and Game of the Month for nearly a year), and decided we wanted to start 2010 afresh and look at some alternative promotions for you. Were currently doing lots of planning for the year and figuring out ways to bring you more token-collecting opportunities, so watch this space!

I was a free Pogo member, but then I used one of the 14 day passes and fell in love with World Class Solitaire. It was more fun and easier to win in that game than First Class Solitaire.

Sheljin (#72):

Im in Maryland, and we did indeed pass the 2-foot mark in snow early this morning. To give you some idea, at about 2 AM, we had 8 inches. At 3 AM, we had 10 inches. It is surreal.

Chelle 02.06.10 at 2:55 pm

I joined regular Pogo because of Poppit and Word Womp. I thought they looked fun and I had been looking for a kid-friendly game site (I was 13 at the time). I joined Club Pogo because I fell in love with Lottso during a trial. I didnt even get a chance to try out the other Club games because I just played Lottso nonstop.

82

Brian 02.06.10 at 3:24 pm

The reason I came to pogo was for pinochle. After playing yahoo pinochle for a year and being very frustrated with it I was looking for a new place to play. Someone was kind enough to give me a guest pass and the rest has been history. As Ned flanders said on the simpsons Pinochle is the gateway game to uno, it was my gateway into pogo and badges and minis and everything else

Thank you for everything pogo

Overflow originally got me hooked years ago. I had been playing a very similar game from diskette called Wallpipe. Then I found Word Whomp and Poppit! Not sure why I didnt try any of the other free games. My daughter sent me a 5 day pass about a year and a half ago, and I found out I was at rank 23 in Word Whomp!

It took me until September of 09 to get my own paid subscription, and found out I was at rank 31!

I now have about 16 games in my Favorites, and have made a few good gaming friends.

84

Jillian 02.06.10 at 4:45 pm

I fell in love with Word Whomp! I love word games and puzzles. Then they had a 14 day promotion to Club Pogo and I got hooked on Jigsaw Detective. I could not see paying the Club Pogo fee, so I was bummed I could not play Jigsaw on regular Pogo. Then, through this amazing site, I was alerted to the coke rewards program and getting Club Pogo with those. Since I am a recycle freak ( you will not believe all the bottles people throw away), I have gotten 6 years of Club Pogo through Coke rewards.

I became a badge addict! Thank God for coke rewards, because like millions of people, I lost my job. I cannot afford gems anymore (only bought them twice) and I miss buying badge albums and other badges with the gems, but at least I have Club Pogo and the wonderful people you meet to lift my spirits.

Go Colts!!! Have a great weekend everyone!

85

Mamabear 02.06.10 at 5:19 pm

A friend gave me a gift of one year of Pogo 3 years ago and Ive been hooked ever since. I gave a friend a pass and then since Id just earned a year of pogo in a league I belonged to I gave her all the free passes from the Subway promo. Just paying things forward. I give away my free passes in the non member rooms, most use them and I hope they enjoy Club Pogo.

Stay safe and warm everyone that got bombarded by the snow~about 14 on the ground here in NW PA and more on the way they say.

86

Rick 02.06.10 at 6:18 pm

My mom and dad live in Illinois and we live in PA. They were Club members and we were looking for a way to talk and have fun with each other. We were visiting with them and they showed me Shuffle Bump and Canasta. Ever since then, I’ve done every weekly badge and even stayed up really late a couple of Tuesday nights. It’s my way of unwinding after a long day. After last weekend’s discussion, I’m working on Hog Heaven Slots trying to rank out in at least one!

87

Caren 02.06.10 at 6:59 pm

I played pogo for over a year before I joined in 12/08. I was playing Word Whomp and Rainy Day Spider, and managed to rank out in Rainy Day Spider. I got tired of the flashing ads on top of the games, and the commercials. There was a $10 off special, so I joined. I didn’t even know anything about the badges. The first week I noticed them Tuesday night and quickly finished them. I remember worrying about picking the badge with the most tokens. Now I don’t even look at that, I just want to finish the 2008 album. I have 27 left, then I’ll start on 2007. I originally played the club games Word Whomp Whackdown and Battle Phlinx.

88

david 02.06.10 at 7:08 pm

The game that made me join Pogo was Poppa-Zoppa & still is my favorite!!! :)

89

Tim 02.06.10 at 7:52 pm

Like others it wasnt any one game that did it for me. I just got tired of seeing the ads and they had a $10 discount so I figured why not? Now the whole family plays it most every day. I think a interesting topic should be what games in the future would you like Pogo to make? Great site keep up the good work.

90

WilliamPorygon 02.06.10 at 8:27 pm

I first found out about Pogo from an ad for Word Whomp I saw on MSN back in October 2001. I played that a lot at first, but spent even more time playing the original Word Riot, which had just come out a couple weeks prior to that point.

91

Sandy 02.06.10 at 8:45 pm

I joined club pogo to avoid the ads. I am glad that I did.

We got 16 in. of snow in about a 12 hour period here in Ohio. So I have played a lot of pogo today!

92

Cyrabi 02.06.10 at 9:55 pm

Before I became a Club Pogo member I played Hangman Hijinks, Pogo Bowl, Bingo Luau, etc. Tried the 2 week trial and guest pass. Im hooked now! Get to play lots of cool games, do the weekly challenges, shop in the Mini Mall etc. ;)

93

Holly 02.06.10 at 10:44 pm

I actually just joined last year because of the Subway promo. I had never heard of the site, but my sister emailed me saying she won a free pass, and asked if I wanted it. I joined, then a week later went crazy collecting Coke codes so that I would be able to stay a member for longer.

94

Holly 02.06.10 at 10:45 pm

But I have also spent $40 on gems already, so Pogos still getting money from me, even though I got the next two years free!

95

DebbieSLP 02.07.10 at 9:05 am

My husband is doing the Coke Rewards thing too. When I told him he could get a free year of Pogo by collecting the codes from his Diet Coke, he went a little crazy buying it! He’ll get his free year, but now I feel bad that I enabled his Coke addiction! :-D

96

Lisa 02.07.10 at 9:17 am

I became a member when I started playing Lottso. Than I found all the badges, I was hooked ever since. :0)

97

justducky 02.07.10 at 10:46 am

I found Pogo while I was recovering from back surgery because I could play bridge, gin, cribbage, spades and hearts.

I rarely played anything but cards until Club Pogo came along. Got totally hooked on Mahjong and I became a badge ho, (sorry if I cant say that) ;o)

98

Kim 02.07.10 at 10:57 am

Thanks all for the rememberies. I started playing the games installed on our old computer. Eventually went online with AOL and dial-up, then hubby found out about Pogo so we could play the same games and chat. (I had previously been a CB radio-holic and enjoyed talking to folks from all over.) From Payday Freecell, I moved to Vaults where I found a really great room with a fun group of regulars.

Never thought Id pay for a membership, but a 30-day free trial with no advertisements and AOL members getting a $10 savings was too good to pass up. Didnt like using my AOL screen name, which was my real name, so I said farewell to over 1 million tokens and changed my screen name.

There was no one particular game that got me hooked on Club Pogo, I liked the weekly challenges and other badges, the emoticons, private chat options and the variety of games.

I was never going to pay for any badges or mini items (famous last words). I still draw the line at paying 28 tokens for the special edition badges and only get the ones I like, preferably when they are on sale.

Now, I dont chat as much – playing in rooms with bots as I try to rank up and out of several games. But, since Ive found this site, I feel like Ive found a new family with so many nice people, caring and sharing tips, free token offers, etc.

BTW, here in northern Vermont, we havent had any appreciable snow since the January thaw and there are still patches of dry grass alongside the snow in every yard.

I wanted to add that on New Years, I made a challenge to myself to try all the various games offered in the game award book and to earn at least One badge in each badge category. This will expose me to some that i may have overlooked or avoided. I combed through the book and found a total of 10 games, 2 of these were downloads. I have started on these and have 6 left. My biggest surprise has been getting a badge in that 6th street poker one in a bout 12 hands. In some I am close, but I will get one in each category. Well, off to work on this week’s challenge where I am at rank 8, going for 10, and saying Puck-It all the way.

101

Tailte 02.07.10 at 12:20 pm

I found Pogo for free and got hooked on Word Whomp and Bingo Luau. Then within a week of finding Pogo they had a 2 week free Club Pogo offer which didn’t require a credit card. So I figured that I might as well play without the ads and try some club Pogo games. Wonderland Memories and Jungle Gin were the Club Pogo games I wanted to stay for at the end of two weeks. So I figured I’d sign up for a month and see how it went. Got hooked on the badges, loved all the word games, discovered Penguin Blocks and Jigsaw Detective and 2 years later, I am happy badge addict who regularly plays more than 60 different games on Pogo. Have to say I find my membership well worth the entertainment value I get from it.

Pat 02.07.10 at 12:48 pm

Since I finally finished BLOOOP last night, I wanted to send a very Special Shout-Out to Purplelady10us and Faith who came up with the most fabulous Grid to play this game. It is featured here on BH, in the right column under ranking out blooop faster. If you havent tried it, you should. It is truly amazing and a lot of thought and ingenuity went into it. The biggest OMG moment occurs the first time you see the puzzle clear and the wins mount up. Spectacular !

I also wanted to thank my truly wonderful partners who have all helped with games in blooop to further our ranks along. All of these are wonderful people who I paired up with thru BH. I want to esp mention Trish, Janice, Ellen, and Sarah who were so giving and patient. They have also already ranked out, or are very close. (Send a pogomail and we will finish what you started). We have selected card games which we intend to play long after blooop…

Once again, Lura, a Big Shoutout to you for all you do to make a more enjoyable site for us to come to that is both informative and a place to meet others with similar interests. Hugs to little man !!! Pat

Why I joined club pogo is because I liked the 1st time I seen a badge that I won & I got excited over just the thought of winning a badge.

104

Faith 02.07.10 at 2:03 pm

Pat #102. You are very welcome. But purplelady and I didn’t come up with how to do it….we just put “how to do it” into words and Lura put our words into pictures. It was a team effort. I do not know who came up with how to do it, but it was very creative.

105

monicam7755 02.07.10 at 2:45 pm

two questions please. why does pogo have solitare, word whomp and etc in the albums? I got my first album this month. you should be able to replace a premium with another to do the album. I have almost 7 of the mixand match .

where do I find the code to buy something for another player.

thank you, monica

106

purplelady10us 02.07.10 at 3:05 pm

Pat # 102 – Faith #104 is correct we did help eachother get it into words. I agree it was a team effort. I am glad that we have been able to help all of those who have tried this plan to rank out in blooop. It is amazing to see it the first and the LAST time! Thank you for your E-mail Pat! You Rock!

Welcome Back LURA! Congrats on the sweet baby!

107

Sheljin 02.07.10 at 3:20 pm

Kevin B. #80 I cant even imagine the snow piling up that fast, its been so long (knock wood). I met a couple of women yesterday from Maryland while playing Mini Golf Madness (avoiding the weekly badges lol), who were talking about how much snow they had gotten so far. One was at 30 inches, the other 2 ft! One said they couldnt even see their cars in the driveway. I hope you and everyone else in the storms path are doing okay, Kevin.

David #88 – I really like Poppa Zoppa too and was just thinking the other day that we havent had a badge there in awhile!

Rick #86 – That is a great way to stay in touch with family – how fun. Your comment made me think of another possible topic for Lura: who HAS to finish the badges first thing on Wednesday (or as close as possible) and who procrastinates and rushes to finish them Tuesday night. lol (Lura, I havent forgotten about writing you about possible game rooms for BH — Im just swamped at work right now.)

Faith #104 – You are so honest. I was going to jump on the bandwagon to thank you for devising that great Blooop way-to-play; I had used it long ago. But I will still thank you all for getting it posted here to help everyone else.

Lastly, I have a tip for non-club members playing the card/table games who get those annoying ads running across the top of the table screen. If you right-click on the ad space, a list pops up with the word Back at the top. Click on Back and it should just take you to a plain pogo banner, without interrupting your current game. Much better!

Have a great week, everyone.

I sure do not know what everyone is complaining about. I have done
all the badge albums and the astrology badge album was very very hard to
do. I was worried about getting quite a few of the albums finished.
I am glad that the badge albums have gotten easier to do. And I am
glad that the mix-n-match badges are easier to do. I feel like they are
still a good enough challenge. just my personal opinion.

109

feathers467 02.07.10 at 4:47 pm

When I first came to pogo , all I played was Word Whomp.
When I joined club pogo, boy did I play so many more games. I wish
they would give Spades more ranks. Because of the badges I have learned to play so many more games. It is my escape from reality and
I get out of self and pain and get into games. I really enjoy meeting all
the people on pogo and the most important thing is to have FUN!!!

l3ear’s Mrs. 02.07.10 at 5:33 pm

Hi Lura
Welcome back so nice to see so many familiar names again. I missed you all.
I’m thinking I started playing Bejewled, and The Poppit Show but received my very first badge the “Duck Badge” in Poppit. I didn’t know why because I knew nothing of ranks then. But I believe it was Tri-Peaks 2 Quest of the Ruby Ring that convinced me to become a Club Pogo member. I liked hanging . . . *OOPS! okay, “Saving” the other members). Oh yeah and I wanted one of those cute little icons too. Came in contact with an old friend from Yahoo days and we would chat while I did my first total rank for a game. Keno Pop was the first game that I totally sat through to rank out, 6 days it took me. Then I only played the weekly challenges because I thought that was the only way to earn badges. Next, found Word Search Daily and kept on getting badge after badge until I was up to date with the calendar. And all that happened within my first month as a Pogo member. Discovered MM’s, Albums and Gems and The rest is history.
What surprised me when I went back to see which badge I received first I noticed that I’m 10 years with Pogo and only 2 years as a Club Pogo member. Still here still enjoying the company and playing so many different games. It beats what they are putting on TV any day.
Oh yes most importantly can’t forget the added bonus of that old friend, is now my hubby.
Lura, it can never be said enough you, and many others that help you, do such a great job supplying us with information and a place to converse. Enjoy the snow you so wanted.

I saw some one with a Sweet Tooth Promotional badge; they got it 2/6/2010 does any one know how they got it? i have been playing sweet tooth for 2 days and I dont have it yet

sean 02.07.10 at 6:52 pm

deborah it might be the valentines special edition badge u buy it for 28 gems

113

Pat 02.07.10 at 6:53 pm

Well, wtg Lura, Purplelady and Faith—I don’t mind where the big ideas come from. As long as I can continue to find em on BH, U know I will be here. I so enjoy this site. Also like the mention of card nites. I am still stuck in the old abyss of Canasta, where it used to rank out..ranks 46-50…endlessly long without chat. So, keep those great ideas coming and tysvm.

114

purplelady10us 02.07.10 at 7:31 pm

Deborah #111 that is a badge you have to buy, It is a limited edition costs 28 gems I think…

115

Lura 02.07.10 at 8:14 pm

l3ear’s Mrs.: definitely a case of “be careful what you wish for”. I spent most of my weekend dealing with the 33″ of snow outside my front door. The magic is gone, I’d be happy to not see snow again until next year. Or the year after. :)

Thanks everyone for another fun weekend open thread and thanks to Kevin B. for the discussion topic! As usual we’ll be back next Friday afternoon for another open thread. See you then!
