It appears that even Pogo’s help file doesn’t contain a solution that’s worked for some people: uninstalling flash and reinstalling its latest version. Kiki wrote in yesterday to share this information in advance:

Apparently, Adobe Flash Player can only be uninstalled with their very own uninstaller (which also takes care of those noxious ActiveX issues). So if people are having trouble running Puck’s Peak, they may do well to go to:

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html

and download that uninstalling software, run it, and then re-load the current Flash 10. I’ve often thought ActiveX was a major bug in the ointment, but couldn’t figure out how it was involved. Anyway, it is a suggestion that Pogo hasn’t offered yet, so it’s worth the try.

i played puck peak with no problems loading.. i used the first peak and set up for the most win and go to 1000 meters. you get 10 checkpoints that way. it is up to you which peak to use. its a fun game and addictive .. good luck to all

How in the world do you reach a port on PPS? I have been past at least 15 stars and I am still only 1/7. It says above to reach 5 stars…..

4

Cheryl 02.03.10 at 11:35 am

Nevermind…..I just went back to Pogo and it says I have 3/7. It was not updating my advances in chat so I guess don’t rely on chat for your score.

tigger 02.03.10 at 11:55 am

worked on pucks a bit, borrrrrrrrring lol, not that hard to do though

6

Cheryl 02.03.10 at 12:12 pm

Pucks Peak reminds me of a preschool computer game to teach the kids hand-eye coordination…lol. No offense to anyone that likes it, its just not for me.

Butterfly 02.03.10 at 12:20 pm

I had to LAND on a star space to receive any credit for Perfect Pair Solitaire. Is anyone else noticing this? Because my Mom (who plays also) went PAST many stars and received no credit, but I made a point to LAND on one and it gave me credit.

lorraine 02.03.10 at 12:34 pm

try doing P.Peak on 500 level, its easy, 6 games, and most of the shapes are squares, so no need for turning them, even for me with only the use of one hand it was easy

9

jksam 02.03.10 at 12:35 pm

for perfect pair – go to game board and count how many hearts you need to get to the next port and then use your king cards to help you get the number of hearts that you need

luvmybird 02.03.10 at 1:43 pm

Is anyone else disgusted over the new games besides me? For the money I am wondering if its worth renewing my membership or just go to a free game site and play win and enjoy because its not enjoyment to suffer the headaches that I am getting from doing these challenges this week.

11

nephthys 02.03.10 at 1:51 pm

jksam, you stole my tip for perfect pair! Thats the fastest way to get the badge (though I like playing the game anyways) It only took me winning 9 hands to reach seven ports. You get one heart for every 4 pairs of cards you match, but dont click a king card because that clears out any progress! (look at the lights underneath the line of hearts) and a perfect pair (a match right across from each other) earns you one heart.

I have problems with Pucks Peak. Ive tried everything, but it doesnt want to work with my main browser (I use MSN internet explorer) so I just have to open up regular internet explorer or firefox to play the game. I dont play it often anymore, fun… but I played so much in beta testing I kinda wore it out for me, lol.

watchfan72 02.03.10 at 2:12 pm

Nicole 02.03.10 at 2:33 pm

I don’t know if I’ll go after Pucks Peak or not. I only played it once and really didn’t care for it. Maybe if I play it more I may change my mind.

14

MomsBassetHound 02.03.10 at 2:38 pm

Just finished my weekly badges and did the 2 new M&M badges also.
I guess I was lucky b/c I didn’t have any problems with Puck’s Peak loading. It wasn’t all that bad, but will only play it for a badge. But I’ll play any game for a badge…LOL

Hope it goes as fast for everyone as it did for me. Good Luck!!

It really stinks when Pogo is not clear on what constitutes progress toward a badge. I have been playing PP for an hour and wondering why my progress was not accruing. Someone in the room finally told me you have to land exactly on the stars, not just “reach” them (as it says in the badge description.)

It is a huge pain in the butt to play this game to NOT get pairs, and to break up chains, so that you don’t overshoot the next star. It really irks me when a badge requires that you play a game contrary to the usual game goal in order to get a badge. I’d much rather have been given a challenge to make it around all the ports a given number of times.

And BTW, if you get sent backwards and land on a star, that counts.

Karen 02.03.10 at 5:12 pm

I had fun with Perfect pair Solitaire, but Puck’s Peak is one of those games I just can’t get the hang of. In fact, I think there’s a typo in the word “Puck’s.” ;)
I play Pogo to relax and have fun. When a game I dislike is offering a badge, I just save myself the aggravation and skip it.
If I want to sit around piling things up and hoping the pile doesn’t collapse, I can always do laundry.

17

Shelly 02.03.10 at 5:26 pm

Nicole #13.
If you play the game to 1000 mtrs it only takes 3 games. It’s a very quick badge :0)

18

Rick 02.03.10 at 5:52 pm

With Perfect Pair, I know it’s playing contrary to the way the game is supposed to be played. However,it is pretty easy when you are trying to play from port to port. Most ports are easily doable with one hand. Most actually require you to plan and to use the Kings to keep your hand total low. Actually found myself enjoying the strategy. You can see the map by clicking on the anchor in the blue circle at the top of the hearts. Once you get the hang of it, it’s fun. If you don’t have the right number, simply press the “New Game” to try again.

19

Cyrabi 02.03.10 at 6:14 pm

Hi all. For Puck’s Peak you need Flash not Java for it to work.

20

Rick 02.03.10 at 6:24 pm

With Puck’s Peak, I really enjoy it. This game came out while Lura was on maternity leave and there was a lot of banter back and forth in the Pogo forums about it. But if you’re basing your opinions of this game on just 3 games, you’re missing out on a great game. Once you get past the first and second worlds, it gets a lot tougher. Once you get to the 4th, it’s hard! I think the volcano is the best level. If you don’t like it, fine, but you gotta get past the “baby” levels.

Plus, I like the fact that you can make it as easy or as hard as you want. If you want a challenge, play the pieces as they come off, don’t rotate them. Or don’t use the undo button. Or, make as skinny a tower as you can without it falling over. Or, don’t use any of your puck’s powers. I’m just 9,000 short of opening up the space level. I’m sure I’ll never actually play the space board, but it’s a fun game and it’s long past the stacking squares on top of each other.

Jody 02.03.10 at 9:11 pm

I found the challenges quite easy, Pucks took about 10 mins and i am rank 47 in it, and also Perfect Pair wasnt bad after I realized I had to land on the stars to get credit. Some ppl still cant get their puters to work for Pucks Peak, but Pogo has the solution, haha as is in the pogo news for today…
Editor: Thanks for writing about the Pucks Peak issue. It sounds like you went way beyond the expected effort to get the game to run, and from the letters Ive received this week, I can tell that youre not alone.

But– theres good news. If you cannot get the game to run by the end of the challenge, please contact our Customer Support Department and let them know you did your level best to get the game to run on your computer, and they will grant you the badge after next Tuesday.

I couldnt get Pucks Peak to load using IE but I was able to load the game using Firefox. Good luck everyone.

Pat 02.04.10 at 2:23 am

I dont know what all the fuss is about with perfect pair soli–I didnt count kings, i just played. I didnt land on stars. I still got my badge for 7 destinations….

Bob 02.04.10 at 8:40 am

My problem with Pucks Peak is not a getting the game to load and run, it is that while playing the game, as I just about to reach my GOAL whether it be 500m or 1000m the game FREEZES and I have to manually shut off the computer and then restart. I have communicated with (Pogo Andy) at least three times over the course of two days last weekend trying to correct the situation. First it was to make sure that Adobe Flash Player was installed and enabled and that Shockwave was enabled, THAT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. Then to make sure I had the most current versions, checked that out everything seemed OK. Still NO SOLUTION. The last time was to use the links that he sent me and install the absolute MOST CURRENT VERSIONS, which I did, and this time i finally got a jackpot spin……. but when the screen showed me the breakdown of how i won the tokens that I did, LO AND BEHOLD IT FROZE AGAIN!!! I mentioned to Pogo Andy that if 100% of Pogo Members CAN NOT get the game to properly work it should be pulled off of challenge week until such time that the problem is corrected. I have one solution that I will be trying over this coming weekend, when my daughter brings home from work a mouse that can be connected to a USB port, and will try the game on her operating system (Vista) with the Firefox browser. If Im able to complete the challenge on her lap top then I will know it is not Pogos problem but MY COMPUTER.

Thank you for letting me rant; Bob

Serena 02.04.10 at 11:51 am

I have Windows Vista, and I use the Firefox browser. Puck’s Peak – a game that I happen to like, BTW – worked just fine for me.

28

Mia 02.04.10 at 12:54 pm

I have no problems loading pucks peak.. I use Firefox.. I also enjoy the game.. But I do have a question.. Can someone please explain to me each pucks special ability? I read the how to play section but I am still confused.. I know you click on the star when its lit up but Im not sure when to use it because I dont understand what it does.. Other than that I enjoy playing the game.. Havent started on Perfect pair yet but I will definitely use the tips from here when I play.. also wanted to say I am very happy BH is up and running again!! Congrats Lura and Welcome back :)

29

Bob 02.04.10 at 3:18 pm

To Serena; Thank you for the info about Vista, but my problems all occurred on Windows XP with Both Internet Explorer Version 7 & Firefox 3.6. I am looking forward to trying it on vista so that I don’t miss any weekly challengers

Thanks: Bob

Bob, how annoying. It’s so maddening when games freeze or don’t work. I remember tearing my hair out over Mini Golf!

Mia, I have the same question about Puck’s Peak. I did the badge without ever using the special abilities, and even after reading about them in the help menu, I was not sure how to use them.

The game does get more interesting as the levels get harder. And I still like Perfect Pair, I just wish I did not have to rely on other players to figure out how to advance toward a badge. Or is Pogo cryptic about badge specifics on purpose?

31

Shelly 02.04.10 at 6:12 pm

Mia Debbie.

Pucks powers when charged…..

Scratch will raise the tower you are building but can only use it once between checkpoints.
Sprout ties your pieces together with a creeper type plant.
ElDiablo will destroy by fire any piece you choose.
Chilly D freezes your stack into place but does make blocks slippery.
Cosmo removes and replaces the 2 blocks to the left of the tower.

I have tried them all except Cosmo and my favourite is Scratch. I only play with Scratch in the first world (I find the other worlds too frustrating and I like an easy life….lol)

As you unlock them try them out to see which one you like best!

Jeannie 02.04.10 at 7:04 pm

Regarding Pucks special abilities. I have all of the Pucks and am currently maxing them up (getting 100% of their abilities).

Uplift (Scratch) – limited gravity control. He really is not too useful.

Intertwine (Sprout) – he makes a vine to hold together your pieces so that they do not fall. Vine is kind of cute.

Inferno (El Diablo) – if not used correctly, this one is dangerous. Basically, he will remove any shape of your choosing. Kind of useful but if used incorrectly, the stack will fall.

Deep Freeze (Chilly D) – I adore Chilly. He is the best one to use in all areas. If your stack starts to tumble and you want to keep it (instead of using the undo button), you can immediately freeze the stack by pressing his star. I use him the most.

Black Hole (Cosmo) – is also tricky. If you do not like the shapes that are coming up to be used, hit his star and they will disappear.

In my opinion, without the Pucks, this game would be rather boring. Have been through all of the places on the map and they tend to work extremely well in all of them. The only one I dont really use is Scratch.

A tip: if you want to rank up faster, play the mountain over and over. You still rank up, your Pucks get their abilities, and all of the areas of the map open up so you can play them if you like.

Sorry to go on and on. Good day all.

Peak is easy, but the heart one is annoying. it hard to land on port when you are only one or two away from the port landing

34

angel 02.04.10 at 10:17 pm

i can load pucks peak, i can play pucks peak but when i get to the goal i get an applet error. all of my stuff if current and up todate. i have been able to play this before so i know it isnt me.

HELP FOR PERFECT PAIR SOLITAIRE BADGE IS HERE!!!
This will require some *thinking ahead*. You have to win the game AND LAND on a port with a star.

Click on the anchor icon just about the row of hearts. This will take you to the game board. Find your ship, and count the number of spaces you need to get to the next port with a star. If its only 2-3 spaces, count up to the NEXT one.
Use the *broken heart Kings* to your advantage, to make sure you get the required amount of hearts to reach the next port with a star. Sometimes, you will get TOO MANY hearts, and pass your port. REMEMBER… You have LAND on the port to get credit for the badge.
I was able to get this badge in about an hour. GL !!!

pucks peak is by far the worst game pogo has ever come out with. i hope they never use it as a challenge again. i would rather play the quick quack badge 100 times then ever play pucks peak again. pogo hit an all time low with this stupid game.

37

Kevin B. 02.05.10 at 12:02 pm

Thanks for the tips on Perfect Pair. I never realized the game could require strategy, so that makes it a good weekly challenge, even though it is not my favorite game.

Here is one more tip:

Making a perfect pair also wipes out the progress meter, just like using a King does. Use this to your advantage. The challenge is not as hard as it seems.

Good luck

sean 02.05.10 at 7:34 pm

angel that happened to me too so i did this trick play 500 meters only stack til u get the the 4oo meters then drop all the pieces that come up til u get all the x,s your game will end and u get the credit for it

Pixie 02.06.10 at 8:20 am

I am having the same issue as angel comment 34, pucks peak loads and runs just fine but when I reach goal the game dumps to the applet error. Removed my flash using the adobe uninstaller and installed the latest flash, tried using IE and Firefox – I have reached goal 6 times now only to get the applet error. Unlike angel I have never played PP before so until I read this thread all the way through I thought it was my problem. So frustrating, I agree with Bob – they should get the game right before putting it up for badge challenge!

Pixie 02.06.10 at 8:33 am

Just tried Seans trick comment 38 and it WORKED!!!!! I am so relieved, I really appreciate the support this site gives! Thanks to all of you!

My computer was working just great but I wasn’t quite able to get the hang of Puck’s Peak. Then my 13 year old grandson came over. He not only did his own, he did mine and both his aunts. He actually likes that game. Thanks to snow days in the South and grandsons. ( I already had my PP badge.) SO VERY GOOD that this site is up again, missed it so much. Congrats to family, Lara!

42

Sheljin 02.07.10 at 4:39 pm

I got both weekly badges, and neither was really that hard for me. I think everyones tips here are good ones. I find doing Pucks Peak at just the 500 goal works best because the tower seems to get more unstable (for me) the higher I go. As for PP, I didnt mind the extra thinking involved…..I like playing some of the games in different ways (in leagues, I played crib, dominoes backgammon to lose – it gets your mind jumpstarted lol).

Kiki – that is a most excellent link to keep handy! GJ

Im the first to admit that Pogos CS is less than stellar on many accounts, but they did give notice on the news page AND in room announcements that there was going to be a Pucks Peak badge and a link to their troubleshooting page. I felt they were really stepping it up there and giving people ample opportunity to try the game before the badge came live. I guess I feel cheated if they are going to give away the badge for computer issues as per post #21 – it is early in the year with plenty of time to try again to get it as a personal after more computer repair, right? (I guess I am speaking as someone who had it work seamlessly on 2 OSs and 3 browsers.)

Thanks for the info on the Pucks – I cant seem to find those details anywhere! Do we know the number of stars to max out each Puck? I know the Pink guy is 104 or something odd like that and Im working on the green one now. Oh how I missed BH!
