The wait is over: Pogo released Battleship this morning. You can get to the game by adding it to your favorites or visiting the game’s Play Now page. This game has 50 ranks, 5 rank badges, and 2 in-game achievement badges (also known as “secret badges”, though clearly it’s no secret how to earn them):

HINT: you will see the “X” that are dropped by the plane. That is where the Power ups are. choose those areas each time to get the power ups you need to win. Get two power ups in one turn and you get heat seeking missles…that helps a great deal. The robots are very good at this game.

I like the game so far. Only thing I would change is to make it a little quicker…as in shots fire quicker and graphics are up and gone quicker.
A tip I have is that the bots placement of ships is very predictable. They tend to place them in the middle of their play area and will group 2 or 3 together.

I’ve played a few games, it’s alright, but it’s not a game that will hold my attention for long. The graphics are fine the first few times, but after seeing them over and over, I don’t want to see them any more, it’s just taking up game play time. Haven’t noticed that the 2 ranks I got were gone or not, probably, but that’s what you get for trying out the new game on a Tuesday. I have noticed though that the bots like to group all their ships together, literally one game, they were all one on top of another.

I know this is an aggravating question and I may be dumb but I can’t figure out how to shoot and yes I have read the instructions many many times and still don’t see any instructions for that

Well, I was very disappointed with Mini Golf, but just as surprised with the quality of this game! Pogo’s designers did a pretty good job of updating an old classic. The # of shots per ship is a good concept, but I can also see that once you are on the losing end it can be hard to get back going. The powerups are surprisingly fun and don’t take too much away from the heart of the game. I can’t wait for this to go on real release because I believe my friends and I will spend a lot of time there!

Haven’t tried the game yet. Just wondering though if any of the people saying that they lose their ranks when they leave the game have tried making sure to refresh the pogo home page as soon as they leave the game. I know this worked to help keep the ranks in Crossword Cove when it first came out and had that same glitch.

I have played this game twice and lost my rank both times. I like the game but will wait a few days before I play again. I am looking forward to playing with my son. We like to play BattleShip together.
Loraine- keep placing shots until the fire button shows up. I didn’t change any of the option and was able to put down five shot before the fire button showed up. Hope this helps.

Lorraine, if you’re in salvo mode (and you probably are) you have to click on five different squares to set up your shots then hit the fire button.

Hey there, just wanted to say love the site!
This is a pretty good game.. Reminds me of being a kid again and playing with my pop-pop all the time, how do I miss him dearly.. I’ve been playing EWB trying to rank out in that game and boy is this game a refresher.. I like it but I don;t see myself playing it constantly.. I am more excited to see the Flower Daze game but I am sure I have a long way to wait lol
Yeah the bots are easy to predict… I think out of 20 + games I think I lost one game against the bot.. But I enjoy the powerups in the game.. Although the one where u can steal your opponets power up kinda makes me mad lol..especially when they steal MINE!! lol!! All in all good game :)
Haven;t enjoyed a good game like this in a long time though.. Last time I really enjoyed a game was when EWB came out lol…

Yay I’ve been waiting for this to come out… I got to rank 18 in beta and I really didn’t play as much as I should have >.> I know there was a tip to try and get two power-ups on one turn for the heat seaking missles… but I actually like to only get one a turn. There are some very handy ones (especially the reinforcement ship!) that I like much more then the heat seaking missles…
And since it doesn’t say it in the rules (I made sure to check!) there are more power-ups then you start off with… they are released as you gain certain ranks (rules only state the 10 power-ups available)
Rank 5 – Skipper Powerup – 4 shots at once in a 2×2 area (club pogo only)
Rank 15 – Harpoon Powerup – 5 shots at once in a plus (+) pattern
Rank 25 – Attack Squadron – 2 extra shots (club pogo only)
Rank 35 – Tomahawk Powerup – 9 shots in a 3×3 area (this is an AWESOME power-up) Only Active if you have very few ships remaining! (club pogo only)
The following power-ups are always available:
Heavy Shot – 5 shots at once in a plus (+) pattern
Counter-Attack – steals your opponants power-up
Reinforcements – an extra ship (4 shots to sink)
Sinking Shots – hitting a ship once automatically sinks it
Torpedoes – fires across one line (horizontally) until a ship is hit
It should be noted that even though non-club pogo members cannot unlock certain power-ups… they CAN steal them from an opponant with the Counter Attack power-up.

Annnnndddd… now that I’ve played the game I have to admit… it’s driving me nuts! On the beta site the animations and such were MUCH faster and now everything seems to have slowed down. I don’t know if I will have the patience for that :(

Well I have to admit I love the new game. Rank 18 for someone who posted on here WTG!!!! Most people I have heard or have seen are at rank 5, so again WTG on Rank 18!!! Thank you for all the tips. I have been playing Speedy, does anyone have any suggestions on the other options, like Pogo, Classic and so forth? Thank you again, and most of all LURA YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!

John #32 – When you look at your stats in your profile, you’ll see a stat For Ships Sunk and a stat for Total Misses. I’m going to go out on a limb (yep I know what that can mean) and say since it doesn’t specify any particular kind of ship, it’s giving credit toward the “secret” badge for any type of ship sunk. I’ve sunk 45 ships and I know they weren’t all battleships.
Someone please catch me if I fall off that limb. haha

As a Battleship beta tester, I can say with certainty it’s a man-friendly game because it involves blowing up the other guy’s fleet, and most guys love to blow things up.
I always chuckle when there’s a badge challenge for games like Makeover Madness and how the guys in the room grumble. Now they can get even!

Love this site and love this game. I reached rank 10, I signed off and on along the way and it saved my rank.
Here are some tips I jotted down along the way. I played the Pogo tab and played against the bots. Tried playing against humans but found myself explaining too many things.
I kept placing all my ships together in one block, vert and horizonly, on either side top starting in row/column 2. It was harder for the bots to figure out. When it is your turn to shoot. shoot diagonally, in middle to start and across two power ups (green X’s). When you get a power up torpedo use it on a row with 2+ power ups. When you hit a ship, try to blow the whole thing up in the next turns, as you blow up ships, the oppenent loses one shot per ship hit on the next round.

Rank 18 was me, but that was in beta testing ;) I only played 3 games since its been released on pogo and I dont like how much slower the game is on there then on the beta site. So… im only rank 1, haha.

Fun game so far….. got to rank 5 …. changed rooms to try different modes and did not lose rank. Not sure how long this will hold my interest. If your interest if purely ranking up, the bots on easy are completely brain dead.

That’s how all games you test are, that’s so they can see if ranks are working in beta before they are released I’m sure. Ali Baba was easier in Beta than it is now, definitely lol.

I don’t know what system you people are using that makes you lose your ranks. I am rank 5 and I have been in and out repeatedly all day and have never lost rank at all.
So it would be nice if you learned if it was YOUR system or YOUR connection before you go ahead and put ALL the blame on Pogo.

Its not so much that ranking up was faster (still seems to be the same number of shots fired to me…) its just that the animations seem much slower. Actually, in beta, they said that the difficulty lvl of the computers was set to hard (I didnt think so myself)

I just played a little on the Speedy tab and came here to read the comments…went back to pogo to see if my ranks were still there but went to the Pogo tab and the stats had nothing but zeroes!!!! So I went back to the Speedy tab and guess what….my ranks and stats were there!!! strange huh?

Love it! Definitely 1 of the better games that has been released. I was also a little disappointed w/Mini golf, but this 1 is a whole lot better. Have not played very much yet since I found it before I had to go to work, but what i have played has been fun. Bots aren’t that tough, but are a challenge. Thanx for all the tips i’ve read so far. Now i am off to play for a few hours.

This game is ok. I will probably play till first badge and give up LOL. I am now at rank 6 and have only lost 3 games against the bots. One by only one shot. I found that if you put your boats all along the edges the bots dont find you as easily. I was more happy to get my badge in Mini Golf LOL

I was going to try speedy but then saw that you only get 4 shots per turn. Is that the only difference is that the speed of each turn is faster because of that or is there something else that makes the overall game faster?
For those looking to rank out fast my suggestion would be that since rank is based on number of shots and not wins you should play a game and as long as youre ahead (have more ships left than your opponent) just keep shooting until your opponent gets to close to a win.
I did it for a couple games where I sank 4 of the opponents ship and once I knew where the 5th was I got it to the point of only needing one shot to win and then just continued to shoot the spots where I knew it wasnt. This could get you up to 100 shots per game toward rank and toward that misses badge ;)
But thats just if youre looking to rank up fast and not actually enjoy the game.
Im liking the game so far and think it will become one of my regulars.

As with all new games, the ranks disappear. i have been in a game room all day and hope that I dont lose the 7 ranks I have. if i do Pogo will hear about this. i have screen prints proving I had the ranks. Why bring out a game befoore it is knwon to work like it is suppose too…… Come on pogo this goes back as far as I can remember and its about time yall can get it right for a change.

I place my ships around the perimeter of the board and find that the bots have a hard time finding them as several noted above. Plan to reach rank 10 and then think about playing more (want a badge). I am at rank 6 and find that the game gets boring after a while.

Okay, I get the game now, after playing several rounds. Takes an old lady a while, ya know. Anyways, I played against bots and retained my rank when I checked in a few minutes ago. The game for me is okay, but a bit slow and tedious for me, but since I’m a badge hound….still on my way to win the most misses!

I found when I play the quick game that you get 4 shots throughout the game (they don’t go down one if you lose a ship). Also I use auto deploy to set the ships. The bots can’t seem to find them. Ive won most of the games. This is gonna be a slow ranker. It’s a great game but I wish they would have let us choose when and where we use the power ups. Have a great night!

I agree with you Cathy, I would also have liked it if it was possible to choose which power up i wanted to use, instead of the heat seeking missiles.
I am enjoying this tho, brings back happy memories of playing this with my brother and me stretching just far enough to take a quick peek over the top and look where his ships were :)
BTW Lura, I hope ur ears werent burning too bad a little while ago as another player and myself were talking about you in TP. What would we do without you !

I agree with Dans suggestion above. The Tenacious Shot badge requires 50,000 misses. Ive been intentionally missing targets and have about 4,000 misses already. Each game you have a chance of 87 misses and 13 hits (assuming the bot doesnt get reinforcements). Plus, ranks in this game are achieved by shots made. So, if you string out the game and fill the entire grid, youll rank up quicker.
The good way to do this is to sink as many of the bots ships as early as possible. When the bot has one ship left, locate where it is (but dont destroy it!). For each shot the bot makes, youll have 2 – 6 shots (depending on how many ships you have left. If I have any reinforcements on my board, I can make a lot of intentional misses on the bots board watch the ranks go up.
Overall, I like this game a lot. Im up to rank 9 already. And I love the little sound clip from Perfect Pair Solitaire at the beginning of each game. I get a good chuckle from it.

i have never played battleship til pogo came out with it….i absolutly love it…..its amazing the games i have learned to play since pogo….battleship has the best music clips….the power ups are cool…..i dont think there is much more that can be added to it on any leve to make it more fun than it already is…..i say good job pogo….

im at rank 23 and recieved the 2500 battleships sunk badge. you get that badge for any ship not just battleships. gl have fun.
