I treat myself about every six months or so to the biggest gem package and usually save them for mini items. I have only heard of one person winning gems on a spin and it was for a whopping “5″ gems! Hmmm can you buy anything at all with only five? Hope everybody has a great weekend.

Happy Friday Everyone! It is a long weekend for us here in Canada, Thanksgiving is on Monday. I do buy gems, mainly to shop at the mini mall — You should see my closet! lol. I also buy the occasional album or m&m with them. On a good day I can burn through them fairly quickly. Love the caption for your mini Lura, it is a hoot. Take care all.

Happy weekend all from snowy Colorado! Have never won gems, but I must admit I do purchase them twice a year. I use them for MM badges and premium albums, NEVER at the mini-mall, as I couldn’t ever spend all the tokens I have buying stuff there. I feel I’m trading off the cost of the gems against the fact that I’ve got 5 free years of POGO coming my way thanks to the Subway game (and I’ve also given away 2 years to two nice ladies I met on here, so count me out of the contest, thanks Lura). I do try to “maximize” the value of the gems I’ve spent by playing the badges repeatedly for games I enjoy, so I can earn extra tokies while ranking up in games I’d play anyway.

Now, fellow POGO players, here’s my weekend question…last month we had great tips on here about setting custom options so Monopoly World would essentially “play itself”…a great way to get through a game one isn’t really fond of (in fact, I’m ranking up in it right now, as I type this! LOL). I was wondering if anyone knows if any other POGO games will play out automatically like Monopoly does? Just curious?

I actually just started tobuy gems a little bit ago after trying to convince myself that nope I will never buy gems…… and here I have bought them three times already…. funny how that happens….. lol….. I only seem to get the mix n match badges with them…….i like to go for badges more then buy from the mini mall….. my mini mall closets are full enough….. i do however seem to go thru them very quickly…..I always get the highest package available and I do try to wait for the 10 gem sale so the gems last a bit longer but sometimes I’m to impatient….. lol…..

Just heard about your site and i love it! I’m going to use the double browse to learn how to play Backgammon. Now getting back to the gems – I do purchase them regularly and try to get badges that are on sale or wait until they almost retire. I never heard of winning gems – they would be more useful then all the wallpaper I’ve won!

I won 5 gems in a jp spin playing Squelches 3/14/07. As a badge hound I buy 350 gems about every six to eight weeks, depending on the M&M’s & albums. I don’t buy any of the download games. What started out years ago as a reasonably priced game site has now progressed into an ATM for Pogo owners, so I am starting to wean myself away from the badge addiction that has grabbed most of us and will try to limit my usage of the gems for Limited addition or holiday badges. “Try” if the key word here…lol.

I buy gems like crazy….i spend alot of money a month on them… i have never won anything in a spin but wallpaper…lol……

Hi Lura, good morning, and happy weekend :) All i can say is that i have bought gems in the past, and still have about 108. I havent used them in so long.

I think think they should either A) Allow Gems in Spins, Or B) Allow us to spend tokens to buy gems (i doubt that they will do either A or B) but one can only hope right?

No entry into the contest for me please, I have enough club pogo as it is lol. To answer the question of the weekend, I do buy gems. More than I should in fact. I spend them on MNM, PBA’s and a few select mini items. I would say on average i buy about 350 a month if not a tad bit more. In winning gems I have only won them once. 5 gems on a spin my first night back from a year break from pogo. I think they should increase them, it would make a lot more sense since they “say” they give them away. Plus it would save a bunch of us some $$!

I won 5 gems on Word Whomp a few months ago….was really surprised since I usually win wallpaer or screensavers….

I forgot to add earlier that it would be a great idea if Pogo would let us buy gems with our earned tokens. I know they wouldn’t profit on this , but it would be a nice reward for all the Pogomaniacs out here!

Happy weekend to all from dreary NYC. This is my first time posting and I have never won Gems, but have won lots of wall paper and screen savers. Will buy Gems to purchase new Premie Books and Mix-in-Match when they are on sale. Would never ever use them at the Mini Mall, its bad enuf I addicted to badges. In reading recent Letters to the Editor, Pogo mentioned that they will NEVER EVER consider using our tokens to buy Gems which is is kind of sad, but they are in business to make money (true capitalism at work).

One on of my other accounts, I have 20 gems. I applied one of those 3 month membership cards to that account. Since that was the first time I didn’t use one of the free passes to it, it counted it as “new paid account”. Can’t do much with 20 gems. I’ll wait until some badges go on sale. I might get 2 game badges with 20 gems.

On a different note, where can I find the Home Depot promo on Pogo’s site because am one of the unlucky ones who can’t get it to work…Happy weekend all. : )

I’ve never clicked the main menu button, so I had no idea it asked you if you really wanted to leave the game. That is so awesome. :]

Gems! I remember when they were introduced. I got 20 free gems and spent them on a Lottso badge. After a while, I started buying them, but not often. I’d say maybe once every 3-6 months, and always the gem package that was $9.99. I stopped buying them about a year ago when I started having some major financial issues. Last week, I think someone argued that Pogo was basically taking advantage of addicted people with no money. While that may be true, I don’t think it’s Pogo’s fault. They saw a way to offer an extra service for people who want more badges than are offered with a Club Pogo subscription and went for it. I doubt they started it up thinking “mwahahaha let’s get those suckers!” and they encourage “addicted” players to take breaks (as evidenced by that Take 5 thing they had going on for a while). If someone is tearing their house up looking for extra quarters so they can pay for gems, that’s their problem. If Pogo took gems away, it wouldn’t be fair for those of us who just like to have fun earning an extra badge. The same can be said for anything one can form an addiction to. Alcohol, video games, even food! Take it away and those that are addicted might get better, but they might just form an addiction to something else while the people who are not addicted will suffer. It’s unfortunate that some people are willing to spend their last pennies on a game site, but it’s not Pogo’s responsibility to teach people how to handle their finances or to give them counseling.

I use my gems for the mix and match games. I didn’t know you could win Gems from Pogo all I win is wallpaper and tokens.

ive never won or heard of anyone winning any gems in a jackpot spin.i buy gems like crazy.i use mine for mix and match badges special badges and the albums.sometimes i will use them for the mini mall but not that often.it depends if i have enough gems to buy my badges and albums first.take care all .have a great weekend.i ordered a bunch of snow for us this winter.i love the cold and winter.

I buy the 350 gem package almost every month. I use them for EVERY premium badge and album that is released, as soon as they are released. I can’t wait for them to go on sale :)

In the beginning I used them for items in the mini mall also, justified it by saying that it only cost $1 (17.5 gems cost $1 in the largest package), but then I started adding up all those dollars and now I rarely use them in the mini mall. There are exceptions, but have only used them a few times in the last year for something I really wanted….the Basset Hound backgrounds. And if they ever come out with an animated Basset Hound I will get that too…LOL

I have never won gems in a JP spin, but have been in a room when someone else did. All I get is wallpaper. Anyone need any??? LOL

I still had that Mix & Match badge from months ago that I couldn’t get done, but did that and the badge in the new album thanks to the wonderful people on this site.

I’m one of the lucky ones that won 5 gems in a jp spin. Happened in EWB on 2/3/09. Surprised the heck outta me. I buy gems only for PBA’s & M&M’s on sale and then only games I enjoy playing. I’m cheap in Pogo just like I am in life.

Side note regarding the Subway codes – I’m sure you can still win them until the 18th, but my account will not accept any more wins added to it (had already applied about 7). Now I’m getting the message about only 1 promotion code per account. If anyone knows different – please advise – Thanks!

I have only used gems for mini items once and those were the free ones you get when you start an account. I do buy gems for the mix-n-match badges and albums, but only when they are getting ready to retire or go on sale. I usually never buy them when they first come out unless I absolutely love the game.

I only buy gem packages two or three times a year when M&M’s or PBA goes on sale.

happy friday e1. never won gems. i buys gems alot for everything gem related. i also buy the albums sometimes without the gems. i figure i do not smoke cigs so for every carton hubby gets i buy gems lol its an even trade off but i will say i do buy gems less then his habit, maybe once a month depending what pogo entices me with. just a side note i did win one thing from pogo it was a teddybear. i never got it i fought with them for months, but its listed on my prize page lol so i guess that counts.

Shelly: Thanks for the tip about Lost Temple Poker. I didn’t know that you could do that. But i would assume when you play automatically you don’t play as well…but it would definitely help for ranking up that game is a bugger to rank up in

I’ve noticed that in games like Monopoly Slots, if you look at your name and token total in the chat window, and press Spin, your token total will instantly update to whatever you will win for that spin. Some people may notice this especially when they’re rounding “Go” and unlocking a rank or badge as the popup window congratulating you occurs as soon as you spin, but before you even get the results.

I wonder if there’s some timing issue to winning things in the Jackpot spin, though. If you end up with a jackpot spin in Monopoly, it can “skew” your chat token total if you press “Stop” before the spin stops on its own. I’ve noticed a slight token discrepancy for a few rounds occurring predominantly only when I press “Stop” on a jackpot spin.

Just some food for thought.

By the way, I love the site and am eternally thankful for the Crossword and Trivial Pursuit “assistance”!

hi lura and e1 happy weekend thursday night my time i was doing a badge when i finnished doing it i closed the game of i rolled to the top of page i seen that i had 20 gems sitting there so i went straight to the mix and match badges and i got my very first m&m badge i was over the moon because i have been waiting so long for the gems to be available to me i lve in australia the gems wernt accessible to me before this week i do plan to get more gems in the future

Hello and Happy Weekend to everyone. A long weekend for some, Columbus Day on Monday also Thanksgiving Day for our friends in Canada.
I never bought many gems until recently, now I have started buying badge albums and some MM badges. I can get most of the badge albums, mm’s, and mini mall items I want for about 25 cents a day and that includes my yearly membership. Where else can you find that kind of entertainment for such a small price.
I do think it would be nice if Pogo would give out more gems in Jackpot spins. Maybe even give Badge Albums, or choice of MM badges.

I’ve never won gems in a JP and I think I’ve mentioned previously that I’ve never received the gem gifts from Pogo even though I receive their emails, always have wondered what’s up with that.

I held off buying gems for a long time but eventually I fell in love with an animated MnM badge I just had to have and bought my first package. I buy the largest package a couple of times a year and use them for MnM badges (only for the games I love) and also for minis.

Granny, I played fair on the subway promo(no extra email addys or whatever some did) and won 5 three months of pogo. Think it was just luck plus considering I had so many to enter thanks to this site.
Never bought gems just used the 20 they gave us. I just can’t afford it.

Hi Lura! I love pogo and play everyday. My daughter plays too and my neice. I have never won any gems in a jackpot spin and I don’t know anyone who has won any. I think it would make pogo more exciting if you did win gems. I really can’t afford to buy any and I would love to purchase items for my mini and buy badges. I do purchase albums when they go on sale. Trading tokens for gems is a good idea. Have a great weekend!

You’re welcome and yes, you can lose a lot of tokens playing the way I posted. Minimum bet per play is 21 and usually I win well under that per play so end up losing but occasionally you do win more than the 21 bet. If you go into the game expecting to leave with a few ranks but less tokens you won’t be disappointed….lol

I purchase gems monthly when iget paid I use them mainly for mix n match badges, the animated things at mini mall i like, and some times badge albums I can go through at least 40.00 plus a month easily I do agree they should find a better system to aquire gems I have alos beoneof thelucky few to win gems ina jpot spin on high stakes poker BUT it was only 5 What can you really do with a measley 5 gems when everythings at least 8 or more? An increase of how many you win would be nice too The main reason i do buy gems is to keep busy as i am disabled and have a very old car so i dont get to go out much Though it can be spendy tobuy em:)

to Valerie (#29) and Cy (#32) the original Monopoly info was provided by Indy during the weekly challenge thread of August 19-25. Basically you set up a game in the CUSTOM tab, be sure to UNCHECK “auction unwanted properties” and be sure to “allow 3 bankruptcies”. Once you pick a playing piece the game will automatically roll for you. You will never buy any property and you will never win the game, but you will earn tokens will rank up by pasing GO repeatedly. I set the game up then go run errands, clean the house, etc. and am at rank 36, having never actually sat down and played the game! Often, I will come in second as the other bots go bankrupt before I do!

Thanks Shelly (# 62) for the poker tip…speaking of tips…all you folks who are new to this site…go back to the weekend open thread of 9/4 and there are hundreds of fabulous tips for almost every game on POGO.

Finally, to granny (#77) if you play the Subway game between 1 am and 6 am I guarantee you will win repeatedly!

I have never won any gems in the jackspot spins but I buy at least $20 of gems a month. I buy all the mix and matches and premium albums as soon as they come out and have for years. I have also been know to buy mini items with gems too. I think with the amount of money everyone spends on gems there should be more handed out in jackpot spins. I won 5 gems once in a game of Quick Quack. I was very new to Pogo (only had been a member for a few weeks) and I recall actually being upset by it, because the badge I was working on was based on tokens. A few days later, I realized just how cool it was though I couldn’t spend them on anything. Eventually I purchased some gems and I spend them on both badges and in the mini mall.

I purchase the large package of gems no more than twice a year. Even though there are a lot of neat things to use the gems on in the mini mall, for the most part, I use my gems for purchasing the badge books and mix and match when they are on sale. I only used a few gems for mini items.

I received those 20 gems in the beginning, I also won 5 gems once on a JP. I also got gems for updating my POGO account. I buy gems to buy M/M & premuim badges. Don’t use them in the mini mall.

Lura: My take on the Subway passes.
How can POGO only allow 5 months. We go to Subway all the time and have won 8 passes. How can POGO tell me I can only use 5 if I legitimately won 8. Subway has to be paying POGO for all the passes won, not to mention all the new subscribers the will get after the promotion is over. Just putting it out there.

Never bought gems for myself, but bought for son for a M&M a few months back. Never won any gems either. I think I have 4 gems leftover from the last time Pogo added to my account. They’re sure not getting rich off me. Thanks to all who give tips for various games, I’m always looking for a shortcut.

I realized last weekend that I didn’t have the 2008 Special Edition badge in Spooky Slots, so got my 5 pogo symbols and 900 tokens. Was looking about last night and it said that I could activate it again. Of course no badge since I already have it but gave me an additional 900 tokens.

Lura, been telling lots of ppl in chat about BH and what a great site you have. I sent a bunch over here yesterday for CC answers and they loved it. I always tell them to pay it forward by telling their friends, etc.

I buy the gems in the largest size package available about every 2 or 3 months. With them I buy mini mall items, mix n match badges and the PBAs. I never won any on a JP spin, but a couple of years ago, Pogo sent me an email with a link. I went to the link and got 20 free gems. I think it was connected to being on their email newsletter distribution list. I’d love to have some membership prizes!

Am I addicted to Pogo? You bet…Who isn’t !?! Do I buy Gems….NO…..Why? Allow me a trip down memory lane if you will….

When Club Pogo first started there was a clear cut distinction between the HAVES (Members) and HAVE NOTS… (General Public). For $20 a year your club pogo membership got you 3 things: A Mini, Exclusive club pogo member only games and Badges. I really do believe that was pogo’s peak….all of the games today that are worth playing were created within those first two years. The lure at that time was in the games….not so much the badges. Sure people complained, but life went on.

Recently however I’ve noticed a disturbing trend: ANYTHING WORTH HAVING ON POGO TODAY IS GEMS GEMS GEMS….be it a mini or a badge!!! The decline in Club Pogo itself has been gradual, but it has reached a point of stagnation and will soon go the way of the dinosaur…or turn into a PREMIUM PAY FOR PLAY GAME SITE !!!

It started I think about a year or so ago. Let’s check it point by point:
1: Minis – With Minis for Masses there went one less incentive for people to join the Club….and of course one exclusive club pogo feature.
2. With the possible exception of Boardwalk Seaball there have been almost NO EXCLUSIVE CLUB POGO games. With every game being General Release….there went another incentive. Which leaves us with…
3. BADGES – what Pogo’s banking on full scale to take it into the next century!!! Our insatiable appetite for badges and the lengths we will go to, to attain them.

Sorry about that long drawn out piece on Ancient Pogo History….but it’s WHY I don’t buy Gems. I KNOW that if I don’t hold my pogo addiction in check and to the tune of nearly $400 – $500 a year……I’d be in the poorhouse sooner rather than later. Seriously thinking of looking into other game sites like Big Sea Games for premium games without a price.

I have one more thought, but given the length of this, I’ll make it a separate comment. Thank ya’ll for listening and have a GR8 WEEKEND!!!

To Jody #20, thanks for the trivial pursuit tip. I can’t wait to try it tomorrow. Don’t know how many times I’ve been interrupted in that game and had to start over. Grrr Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian friends. I have never won gems in a jackpot spin but I did win a prepaid $25 Visa card by winning a Scoop Away match-3 promo in pogo about a year or so ago which was very nice. Love this site for sneak peeking ahead on upcoming weekly challenges, new games, mini items, etc. This is only my second year as a pogo member. I have bought the biggest gem package at least 3 times, maybe 4, and the smallest package once I think. I have bought a M&M album and my favorite badges to go in it. Finished it up when they went on sale. I buy all the “must have” cool items for my mini, and “must have” special edition badges. I love Halloween so had to spend a bunch there in the mini mall. I only have 9 left, so will have to buy or win more if anything else comes out that I just can’t live without, lol. I have never won any gems ever and have also heard it’s a rarity. From what I have heard, 9 gems is usually what you win at a time, some say 5.

At first, I started off with the $10 gem package and then moved quickly to the $20 package because I had no self-control lol. I went nuts with the Halloween release at the mall so that set me back with almost breaking even with purchases vs. subway winnings (when I put it in that perspective I feel much much better ;) I use gems for everything. I’m picky with the m&m’s though, I’ll buy one only if I like the small badge icon. Never won any gems on a spin and only knew of one person who had. Glad to see there are some more winners out there! Thanks to BH I’ve gotten all the gem freebies that pogo has offered to date

well just wanted to say on friday morning my time (australia) i went to do my daily trivial pursuit before i go to work well i was shocke/surprise putting it mildly since i know i cant get any gems, buy them or win any gems i saw 20 of them under my account couldnt believe my eyes im still in nine cloud about it if i should just keep them becasue when i spend them i dont know when i will get any gems at all but thought i say it ty to whoever gave them to me bcos it was/it is a good feeling having gems while ev1 else can buy them and win them in jps been hoping for the past 4 or 5 yrs i have been a member to get gems to buy some items in mini mall or buy some cool mix and match albums then it was good feeling after so many yrs not getting any at all to 20 gems and no been green envy of others :) cheers adrie loyal pogo gamer, badgehungry and badge addict website reader lol thanks lol

I have never won anything but wallpaper and have never downloaded any of them. I used to buy gems using them to buy every PBA, MnM and mini mall stuff. Now that I am on more of a budget, I spend gems more wisely. – I no longer use them in the mini mall and I only buy MnM badges that I really like to play for.

I always said I would never buy Gems. I thought it was a waste of money. Last year though I got really bored and i also wanted to give my mini a cute christmas scene and badge. I couldnt believe I actually bought some. I know I will buy a few in the future also.
I wish I could win them but i guess they are very scarce it seems.

I can sit and wait through intermission, I don’t care. My husband doesn’t have a job and I am on disability and I know there are many others out there with the same problems. as an update, i just tried adding a Subway code to my primary pogo account (one that already has MANY such codes applied to it), and it accepted it without comment. i was told by someone from pogo that it was limitless and it would appear to be true as of this afternoon.

i won 5 gems in the spinner sometime this past year and was thrilled. i buy them here and there, and i purchase the MMs, PBAs and mini items that appeal to me. certainly not all of them; i’ve ridded myself of the need to have EVERYTHING. it’s certainly worthwhile to wait until things go on sale, too.

i don’t see the gems as a way to milk us or simply a means to make money for pogo. they’re trying to change things up and judging by the comments i’ve read here, they’ve come up with a successful idea. no harm in that. i’ve spent more on a single bottle of wine and it was gone in a couple of hours.

like i always say, the fireworks are free, but if you want to see them from the top of the ferris wheel, it’s gonna cost you.

I buy as many gems as I need in order to buy all the MM badges as well as the albums – I have spent a few in the Mini Mall (I’m a big Calico Cat now) but not too many. It is my mission to earn all the badges available but still have quite a ways to go. (it seems everytime that I buy MM badges, they go on sale a few days later – oh well!!) I wish we could use gems to do the old weekly challenges – at one a week, I’ll never catch up.

By the way, can someone please explain the “No Passing and/or Passing” rooms in Bingo – and what gets other players upset in these rooms.

This is my first comment to your site – I only just found your site this week, thanks to a friend! I am testing to see if I can post this or if I have to join somewhere. So far, no luck finding a membership box. lol I am starting to buy gems way too often. I rarely use them on mini items, though occasionally I can’t resist. I mostly use them on M&Ms, though I have bought a few albums lately as well. I would probably buy more badges and albums if I could – at the same time, however, I really do think they are overpriced (the M&Ms and the specials). I do wish Pogo would let you buy gems with your tokens, at least sometimes – I wouldn’t probably even care how high the cost was in tokies. lol I have heard that gems are part of the jackpots, but have never won any nor have I heard of anyone winning any. I hate the thought of missing badges that are “retired” forever – but I do have to force myself to resist paying more. I do think the specialness of Club Pogo has been diluted…. I love playing on Pogo so much though, that I try not to think about that too much or too often… Thanks again – great site!

I buy gems about 3 or 4 times a year. I usually use them for Mini’s and Mix & Match badges. I don’t buy any albums because it seems they always include a game or two that I don’t play.

I have never won any gems, but my husband – who uses a free account – has won 5 gems twice. ;-p

I have won 11 wallpapers and 2 screensavers. I don’t enter into any of the prize drawings to I just hold onto the tokens for the mini mall. I would spend the tokens on gems if Pogo ever offered that. I’m just afraid they’d set the amount so high it would wipe out a lot of the tokens I do have.

Lura – I have used the search option on Badge Hungry many times and find it always works very well.

Never won any, but buy them all the time for PBA’s and Mix and Match purchases. Would be great to get some every now and again on jackpot spins. Wouldn’t mind winning Mix and Match badges on spins either, or even an extra personal challenge badge on a spin.

I buy gems about twice a year and use them for my mini. I have won 5 gems twice while doing other peoples badges (they got the gems) but NEVER on my own name. Seems strange since I a true pogo addict with 60+ mill tokens and can only win gems on accounts that have never bought ANY gems. Could it be that pogo is just trying to get them hooked?

I would like to comment on the gems. I buy them every month I usually just buy the mix and match challenges. Every once in a while I but things like backgrounds for my mini. I hate that we have to use gems for this because it is making the tokens worthless. I have never won not a dime or ant gems, the only thing I seem to be able to win it the worthless wallpaper and who wants that. I played pogo before there was a club pogo and played for free but to join the club one has to pay. So I pay and pay and never win it seems hopeless. Thanks for your ear.

Yes, I have won 5 gems in a jackpot spin, Lura. I was surprised when I won them cause I didn’t know gems were given in spins at that time. This was just after I had won five dollars. Both wins were in hog heaven I think. And yep, I did get my five two months later. Now I didn’t recall winner a Monoply Deal game but got one along with my pogo check, yep, real people do win even if it isn’t much ,,, lol. when gems first came out i was a person who said HECK NO i will never buy those. BUT i did end up getting them and have enjoyed buying the books and m-m. I do try to get things that go on sale and get more bang for the gem so to say……… I have never won anything but wall paper and screen savers but am forever hopeful that i will win 5 gems at some point in time. The jack pot i have long since give up on winning though i am not anywhere near lucky enough to win that .

We are having snow again here in south dakota, but to me i think it is way to early for snow on the ground. It is going to be a long long winter. I hope others have weather that is better than mine.

First time I’m ever posting to your site. I also didn’t know that you could win gems in a JP spin. Been a member since Oct ’07 and I’ve just recently purchased a 2nd set of the $20 gem pkg. I held off from purchasing because I also thought it was just a money making scheme for Pogo when you can get weekly badges with a paid membership and get stuff at the mini mall with tokens. But after almost 2 years, I wanted to work on some badges at my own pace and purchased the first set of gems to get the “Friends Forever” badge book. Since then I’ve purchased 3 other books on “sale”. Also have purchased one premium background and MNM badge that was on sale. With today’s economy, money is tight and I’m very frugal with the gems I purchase. Would like to thank everyone for their tips, please keep them coming! petalmanebaku- the club pogo standard badge, was awarded to all from pogo, its not a badge u win in a game..for the person who asked about the no passin/passing rooms in ev1 WHINES bingo- people get upset if you get a blackout in a passing room, because they feel it takes away from passing wilds(no idea why, passing same amount either way)the non passing rooms, people still try to control and say u have to pass, but in those, you do not..hope that clears it up for yall :)

I buy gems occasionally, usually when there are M&M badges on sale. I almost never use them in the mini mall, because I just can’t bear the idea that I’ve just spent actual money on a fake person, rather than on things I need. I’ve never won any gems in a jackpot spin, but did get the free ones when they first came out, which is what hooked me on them in the first place.

You’re going to find me weird and offbeat coz I’m here to tell you that pogo DOES indeed have a good side. lol Starting with Freecell and Word Whomp and thru Lottso and Qwerty and Dice City, I have enjoyed many pogo games for free and now it looks like I don’t NEED to even join Club Pogo anymore. I was in the bad habit of buying $20. worth of gems each month or 45 days and spending them all on Mix and Match and Premium albums. I decided last month that I am tired of paying over $200/year for gems and the Club Pogo Membership fee. If I buy any Mix and Match badges again it will be sale items only. The M&M gem price (16 gems) is very high compared to the Album price of 8.6 gems each. Those badges just aren’t worth what Pogo wants for them. On top of that the “special” badges are way too expensive (24 gems). I have not used any gems for mini items. Never won any gems in a spin on my account. Compared to other forms of entertainment I suppose the cost of this is not so bad overall but I have made this my personal decision and would caution others to watch the amount of money you are spending for something that is really worthless.

hello, when i first join pogo MnM WERE 12 GEMS,now there 16. special badges are 28 thats alot even though i buy them the exchange rate is good right now i bought 700– 350 at a time cost almost 50.00 the dollar is up now today 95. so at this price it good instead of paying 29.00 to 30.00 i got for 24. and change, i had to buy the new album and a few MnM TO USE SOME UP CAUSE POGO ONLY ALLOWS YOU 800 so right now i will buy all i can so i can add more gems to account for later .i dont buy at the mini mall i use for badges only. 86 gems for album is a deal cause if you buy it , it will cost 7.44 each album so its cheaper to get the album then it is to buy like that .and that was exchange rate 92 well any way i love the gems ,never won anything in my life .great site lura hagd

I won 5 gems in Jigsaw Detective in March, and I’ve received gems for updating my account info. I usually buy the big package of them every month. I usually use them only for badges (mnm and books,) but will occasionally use them in the mini mall. I have a 15 year old son with autism (low-functioning) and my husband is in the military, so I can’t really go anywhere. Pogo is my entertainment, and my son loves playing a lot of the games (with help.)

Well, I can say that since I became a Club Pogo member back in 2003 the majority of jackpot spins, of course, have been tokens. On occasion I have won screensavers or wallpapers, but one time I won 5 gems which was a big surprise, just wish it could have been a jackpot as I am sure most Pogo players do.
As for buying gems, I do buy gems when I can as I use them for not just Mix & Match badges but also for Mini items and sometimes for a Premium album, just wish they didn’t get spent so fast since the badges, albums and items are somewhat “priced” higher then maybe they should be. I have never won any GEMs. And until now never heard of anyone winning any. I bought Gems one time. I used them to buy the Red, white and blue stuff, ie flags, and memorial day stuff. I have only bought one Album and that was scrabble. Love Scrabble. POGO has seen to giving me about 40 gems so far when I have updated my information or on an anniversary date. Not sure exactly when because they never tell me. But they appear after some of those timelines have been completed. But I sure have won a lot of Wallpaper and Screen savers.

I think that would be a good topic for some weekend. Who has actually used a wallpaper or screen saver and which one(s) did you use, and maybe why you used it.

I have never won gems either… and I had weened myself off of buying them too much either. I come here first before I go to the pogo site, to find out what is new and also as I reminder for the nights that you need to play certain games for free tokens. I recently mentioned this site to a friend, and she looked at me as though I didn’t know what I was talking about. She didn’t believe there was a site available to help with game hints, game night reminders, free tokens, and answers to certain games. She was so thrilled with the site that she added badgehungry as one of her first apps in her toolbar (as I did). Once again Lura, thank you for all you do for us.

I love gems but I cannot afford them. I do not understand why Pogo will not offer them through Coke Rewards. I purchase my Club Pogo through Coke Rewards and would love to get gems and albums that way too.

When the free runs out, I have no badges, but I can still do mini-mall, albeit not the club pogo stuff. And then when there is another free pass, I get that and EVERYTHING I had amassed is magically back…badges, moving mini stuff, albums
and its gratifying to see that I didnt lose it. sooo, you really dont ever lose any of it, its just in storage!

Happy Weekend all. I ve never won any gems on a j/p spin..I didnt even know that existed..the first Ive ever heard of it was this weekends open thread. Over the years I have purchased over 3200 gems. In 2007 and 2008 I bought them 3 or 4 times, and 5 times in 2009. With the gems, I mainly purchase MNM badges, and from time to time, depending how many I have, Ill use them for PBA..however, not too often, because I dont like seeing them dwindle down so fast. I never use them in the Mini Mall, I figure with all the tokens I have, I may as well use those, and then go play a few games to replace what Ive spent at the mall. I think it would be nice if there was another game like the scrabble game, but instead of winning 3-month passes to Club Pogo, you win gems…just my opinion.

i just started buying gems about a month ago and have already used over 1000. buying badge books and mix – n – match badges. i have bought books for friends. i have never seen anyone win gems in jp spins. i think pogo should offer more gems for the 19.99 instead of 350. and i also think they should lower the price for items purchesed with the gems. i.e. make more m-n-m badges 10 gems and make books cheaper than 56 gems.

I did not realize until recently that gems could be won at all in jp spins. I have never won any myself nor have I spoken with anybody who has but I see in all these posts it can happen. I have bought the 9.99 gem package twice and find that I talk myself out of buying things in case something shows up I just have to have…lol. Keeps the cost down that way.
I want to give some praise to Lura too. This site rocks and I visit it several times a day. Thanks for all the hard work you do!

iVE won 5 gems in a spin once, When Boogle Bash first came out. add that to the 4 leftover from my free 20, and still…so there you have it! PING! bought my first $20.00 pkg. and went to the badge sale. i do try to use restraint when it comes to buying/spending gems as i, also, am on disability… (but i guesstimate that i buy the large economy size about every 6 weeks)…and so youll find me at my comp, on pogo or lurking here, most of the day!
to jan, #203…point taken. this stuff is all virtual, not tangible. and another commenter said she likes the challenge of the badges, doesnt waste gems at the mall. well, i do both. i decided that a pleasant, or ethereal, or funny mini that gives me a smile (and hopefully others) is worth the gems i spend there. sometimes when im bored w/ playing games, i choose to browse the mall, waiting for new to be added but browsing anyway. and wishing i had more then 3 pages for snapshots!
for the commenters who said 5 gems buys nothing, i saw a letter to the editors response to that as something about 2 hairdos that are 2 gems each! so we should say theres nothing anyone would WANT at the mall for under 5 gmes, LOL.

I have bought Gems and used for , Mini Mall and on sell Badges only. I find it gets a little costy, for a person on a fixed income. As far as winning Gems, really maybe 5 people in Pogo land may win them. All I ever won was wall paper, in which, I will never use. They really should give out more free Gems.

Hey Isnt it better to have an addiction for gems/pogo then on say alcohol, drugs or shopping?

I budget $25 a month for my gems.

I split them equally between mini stuff badges (or try my best to haha).. My sons love to help me change up my mini at least every other day. The animated mini things are just so much fun. The animation gives minis a whole new look.

Now I know its all just virtual stuff, but I love a great challange. That is why i enjoy the animated badges..
The mini mall is just silly fun to let our personalities shine, get a good laugh and enjoy the Fantasy world. Its all harmless fun. And its Cheap entertainment during these rough economical times.

I recently had to update my billing information for pogo. I got 20 gems for doing that. I had been told long ago that Pogo gave tokens for updating your billing info but then someone else said they charge you to update it. I did not get charged but I did get 20 gems. I forgot to hit the update after I did it the first time, so I had to redo it, duh!!!

Happy holiday weekend everyone! This weekends thread has been very informative. I noticed right off that #12, #17, #21 and numerous others, buy tokens every month. Its nice to know I am not alone on that note. hahaha! I also concur with bobby(#20) that I would love to buy extra personal challenges with tokens.

Anyone else ever get cheated out of money prize at Pogo. I won fifty bucks on jacpot spin at Turbo 21 and Pogo said that wouldnt give it to me because i was cheating. I told them that I wasnt and after a lengthy back and forth email, they requested a video of my game play think that that would shut me up. Well, I sent them a video showing how that since I played the game thousands of times, it was rather easy to win. They rejected my claim. Has anyone else been refused money by Pogo?

It goes sometimes realy fast, but I think when you play a lot on pogo, it’s aloud to spend money on it, because you like to play and of course you want a lot of badges. We all are addicted on pogo and theire badges, isnst it?

Snowy I was a bit shocked that the rest of the world couldnt buy gems and that Europes’s laws prevent its citzens from winning the Jackpots and I heard recently not sure if its true or not that Canada makes you pay a hefty tax on such winnings I guess living in the US we take such luxerys as a giveme it shouldnt be that way I guess we have gotten spoiled but some how and I guess its because my mother and grandparents are full blooded germans after reading some of the stories on Letter to the Editor I sympothize with you anyways good luck to you Snowy if you want someone to play with look me up my name is fier6666

Ive never heard of anyone being denied money before but I do know Pogo scans cheatin Programs or if your using glitches to win if im not mistaken they verify by going behind the code, remember these are computers so they can just check the logs to see if it was a legit win or not but im not you nor am I your computer or Pogo so I have no clue its just my two cents

My addiction to Pogo has been a slow descent (or ascent depending on how you look at it!) First it was regular Pogo – oh, I’d never pay to play games. Then it was Club Pogo – oh, I’d never pay for extra badges. Then there was the pba on sale – I’ve still not bought any at full price… and the flying pig for only 8 gems. How about the 10 gem holiday hanger that became a freebie 2 weeks after I bought it?!?

I only buy the large pack of gems (costs less per gem) and use them only for those things I really want/like, whether it is a pba, M&M or mini item. Used to get an occasional special edition badge, but can’t justify 28 gems per for myself. How often do people actually go back and look at all they’ve earned? (and I wish Pogo would come up with a way that we could put badges into folders or otherwise organize them as we’d like.)

It is nice that Pogo puts things “on sale” once in a while and that people have the option to spend or not spend as much or as little as they choose. I tend to buy mostly on sale badges and albums and play them either when I’m in the mood for something different or when trying to rank up in a game anyways.

I won 5 gems one time. It paid for half a sale M&M badge!

Just an aside, I live about 15 miles south of the Canadian border and one of the grocery chains is having special sales this weekend on turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pies, etc. Everyone enjoy the weekend where ever you are!

Believe it or not with on and off freebies I ranked out in that game in 2 yrs…all without membership. So what you’re doing IS doable hon…jst hang in there. LURA: Ever since I started visiting this thread I feel so connected and part of this ever expanding community of helpers and sharers. I had a thought: How about we do something along the lines of ADOPT AN ADDICTED BUDDY? For whatever reason, if someone needs help getting off gems, is not able to make club payments or whatever….we can have a VETERAN pair up with them…..hold their hand, talk them thru it, introduce them to new games, or whatever it takes. I say this because….as innocent as it may sound:

Firstly, thank you for creating and maintaining such a fun and informative site about pogo. It’s been a real treat to see all of the not yet released information and keep track of my badge and album progress.

About the gems. 1. I have never myself won anything on the Jackpot spins other than tokens or the occasional wallpaper (which I don’t even use), nor have I heard of anyone ever winning gems on the spins. 2. I do buy gems every so often and I spend them on both the albums, Mix ‘n Match badges and some Mini Mall items (I may be addicted to changing my mini more than once a day). Although, I’m pretty picky about what albums I buy since they are quite costly. I try to purchase albums that have a majority of games I enjoy. And finally, 3. I do wish pogo would either decrease the cost of gem items in all of those categories a bit, or increase the number of gems that are included in the packages you buy. I seriously doubt they will, since they are making money off of it, but from a purchasers stand point it would be nice.

Once again, keep up the great work! (And good luck to all of us in the drawing!)

I do buy the gems regularly for MnM badges, Premium badge books, and gift books for a few select long time friends. As for the mini mall, I look at items offered for gems and check how many it will take. I come back a few days later and try to decide if they are still what i want and whether i can get something similar for tokens that will please me as much. Then, and only then will i unclench my tight fist and release gems I have been holding tight to.
Of course, when I set up a family account (so my 3 kids and older grandkids could play and chat with me), I had to set some guidelines. They were buying everything they liked in mini mall, with the gems attached to my visa card. I had to explain that these weren’t “free”. Now, they have to send me a pogogram to ask if i will buy them a mini mall item–and what a softy I am…(sigh).
Like any club, it is easy to overbuy; but, as a consumer, I havent gone to a movie in 3 years, I dont rent videos, I seldom eat a meal that I dont cook, and I so enjoy the company of my family online. So, why not enhance my retirement with something I enjoy? I figure I am worth it.
Oh, on the second account, I only buy premium books and MnM badges when they are ON SALE…frugal, not cheap.

As for gems…Hubby and I are ADDICTED !!!! LOL We both use $50 plus a month (equally divided of course). We drink and smoke (no comments please). But we choose to do at home (no drinking and driving). Our computers are side by side and many nights we activate the same challenge and race to see who will win 1st. I have been a pogo member since 11-2000 and have won a total of FIVE gems on 11-20-2008 (maybe an anniversary gift???).

I only have a few items from the mini mall that costs gems, mostly i spend tokens there UNLESS its really cute and I just have to have!

Dawn – sorry the ideas didn’t work. I have to agree with Jennifer. Your Adobe Flash (Shockwave) could have a glitch. It won’t hurt to uninstall what you have now and reinstall.

I did a search and you aren’t the only one having problems. Quite a few of the tech help sites have people posting issues with Adobe Flash recently.

Wow alot of comments for this thread. Yes, I buy Pogo Gems but I mostly use them to get Mix n Match badges when they’re about to retire or on sale. The last time Pogo had a badge sale I bought some for 10 gems each.

I use my gems for the books and my mini. I wish pogo would let us buy games with are gems. But hay i guess i am thank full for what we can use them for.

I personally have not won any gems in my free spins, I have been a member now for about a year and a half. But my husband who has not even been a member for a year has won a total of 10 gems. First time was in Hog Heaven he won 5 and I know he won 5 more in another one of the slots but I can’t remember even which one it was. All I have ever won is wallpapers that I wouldn’t even use. I think there is something terrible wrong as to what you can win in jackpot spins. Wallpapers and Screensavers seems to be about it. I agree, they should give you a great chances at winning gems. Oh they should also increase the number of jackpot spins in Hog Heaven. In three hours of play on spin, that is stupid.

I have NEVER bought gems. The only time I’ve ever used them was when they first came out and we got free ones to use.
Other than that, got our first chances of snow here in NY monday night/tuesday and thursday night/friday!

I spend around $40.00 a month on gems, i use them to buy albums & mix & match badges. ihave never won any gem on jackpot spins. I wish we could use our tokens to by gem, by i guess that will never happen. One last thing in answer to Cheryl if you collect coke rewards you can get a pogo pass for a year with 550 points, they also have pass for 1, 3 6 month passes.

i won 5 gems in a spin in perfect pair last year, ive won a deck of monopoly cards in a spin this year ( was so so excited ~ i thought id won a big prize LOL) but i got them in about 4 weeks and was awarded a neat green present badge which i love love love!! ive also won 61 wallpapers and screensavers !!
i buy gems about 1 x a month ..im a BIG mini junkie i pay all my albums etc with gems.
i do wish pogo would give at LEAST 18 gems in a spin ..i think they can afford that!!
and my biggest win of all is TOTAL for all the years they have held them is 91 wins as a hot shot in the mini shows

To be very honest, when I purchase Gems I use them exclusively on PBAs and M&M Badges only! Sadly, I find wasting gems at the Mini Mall well pointless actually. Not to be mean, but I love earning and collecting badges than wasting my gems dressing my Mini up. But that’s just me. I love challenges! Keep them comin’ than making my Mini uber-cool.

only problem with using Tokens to buy gems is the people that use autobots to get tokens really wouldnt be fair to the people that pay for them or fair to anyone that pays for Pogo stuff its alot like stores mark up the prices of items due to theft, I imagine pogo it would be the same way

Do I buy gems ….. yes. When they first started the m&m badges I thought it was the coolest thing ever … to be able to pick and choose the badges for games that we like. But like a lot of people I bought every one that came out. Then when I hit 800 badges I had an epiphany …. I don’t need every single badge and the gem badges actually end up costing quite a bit more than album badges. And when the first premium album went on sale I decided to stop buying them too …. unless they are on sale. So that is what I do now …. when they have a sale I buy the badges for games that I have not finished or that I especially like and leave the ones behind that would just be a “chore” to do. And I’m far happier doing it that way. And I still have accumulated about 1450 badges ….

I think 16 gems is a lot per badge and would NEVER pay 28 for a special badge …. but I am thriftier than a lot of people!

Have I ever won gems in a spin ….. no. And I play a LOT of pogo …. sometimes 2 computers at the same time lol. I also have heard a handful of people say they won gems in a spin. Would like to see it myself lol although 5 gems …. big whoopee!!!!!!! I HAVE won $10 after 6 years and over 90 million tokens.

I have been buying gems for quite a while now, in fact, TOO many. I’ve spent them on just about everything but mostly for mix and match badges. I’ve bought albums with them but I feel like they charge way too much for them.

I have something to add, though, that has made me very angry. It’s happened about 6 times now. It happens when I play the Trivial Pursuit game in the UK mode. On question 18 on the Oct. 11 puzzle it gave 2 identical correct answers, which was Billy Preston, and, of course, I picked the wrong one. I’ve actually written pogo about it and, as usual, never even got an answer. I mean WHAT THE HECK POGO? Almost every time it’s happened I chose the wrong one. Has this happened to anyone else or am I the only unlucky one?

I really enjoy this site as I use it to get perfect scores and more tokens now by getting the right answers. Thank you and keep up the good work.

For Dally # 359 – I picked the wrong one this morning also, but sometimes I do pick the correct one. It doesn’t happen all that often, and Pogo is not going to go back and change the old ones…..and that’s all that they use on the UK TP now.

I was one of the lucky FEW to win gems~~~but I was doing a badge for my bestest friend in the whole wide world (its a joke with the two of us). This was at least 2 years back and when it happened, no one had ever heard of anyone winning gems! Sure wish Pogo would be a little more giving on their spins and let them gems go. Since becoming one of the unemployed almost 3 years ago, Ive really tightened the purse strings. My only extravagance I allow myself is Pogo, both my yearly Club membership and gem purchases about 3 times a year. When I purchase them, I always buy 350 since its the best deal (.057 each). As for my using them, I usually use them for MM and PBAs when they go on sale or are just on the cusp of expiring. It nearly kills me to spend 28 gems ($1.60) for the special Limited Edition badges, but Ive only ever missed purchasing one that has ever been offered. Very, very rarely do I ever buy mini items with gems anymore. I tend to try and steer clear of the mini mall as much as possible because I know if I see something that Id ireally/i like, Id have a hard time letting it go. When I do allow myself to browse it, though, I tend to buy all of the token items that I dont hate (sports themed, mostly) and leave the gem items to think about until later… then hope they expire before I drag myself back and cant resist.

I always buy gems for MMs badges and sometimes for minis.

Hi Lura, hope your weekend was good. Commenting on the gems, I went for a lot of years saying I would never buy gems as I thought the cost of playing on Pogo was enough to spend. Well……Ive since (as of this week) went against my thoughts about buying gems. The reason I did this was cause Ive noticed that there are so many more backgrounds, clothes and etc. showing up that you have to have gems that are so much nicer than the one using your tokens on. The reason why this is, is obvious, but after all they are out to make a buck or two ;-). But giving more away wouldnt kill them either and then have more people talking about their generosity.

Gems: Pre Retirement I bought gems regularly and used them on everything I could. I used alot in the mini mall but found i often didn’t wear the outfit i bought because i had so many. I bought every premium album and some mix and match badges.
Gems: Post Retirement I have a few gems left when those are gone, If I’m lucky enough to purchase more, i will only use them on premium albums to get more bang for the buck.
I’m like many here, i’m disabled and home bound so Pogo is my only outlet and only form of entertainment for me.

Have not won any gems but I have enough wallpaper and screensavers for all players that have left comments today. I buy gems about every two months. I am a badge addict and find that I do not like to play anymore unless i am doing a challenge. This is a great site and I really enjoy all the comments and tips. Thank you Lura for all your hard work.

I have never won any gems but I have bought them,
I used them most in the mini mall. LOL
My sister Mary has been a member for over five years and she said she has never won any gems. My friend Rick said he has been on here for over seven years and only won five gems in one game one time. So it looks like they are few and far between to me. But would love to win gems to play around more in mini mall and get badges. And I’m sure all your members would. Thank you fore hearing me out. oh and time traveler keep in mind that chocolate is FAT FREE and they are finding out more and more the benefits of dark chocolate with help in fighting certain diseases. So…. chocolate is NOT bad for you and its medicine NOT food LMAO
