New Free Pogo Homepage

by Lura on October 8, 2009

Earlier this week, Pogo launched the latest redesign of their free home page. (If you’re a Club Pogo member and want to check it out, just sign out for a little bit and browse around. It’s pretty spiffy.) They’ve also posted an overview to explain the basics of the new site and a detailed look at some of the new tabs and features.

This doesn’t affect most of you, as the majority of BadgeHungry readers are Club Pogo members, but there is something you should be aware of. From this week’s UK Letters to the Editor:

our new Free Pogo homepage is the first stage of an enormous project to give the free site – and, eventually, Club Pogo – a serious make-over. Club Pogo is probably the most important to get absolutely perfect, so comes in the latter stages of the project, which runs well into next year. The emphasis is really on making Pogo as user-friendly and visually pleasing as possible, so we’ve spent a lot of time collecting feedback and ideas from Pogo players.

Sometime next year Club Pogo will be getting a makeover too. Most likely it’ll coordinate and fall in line with the free Pogo homepage and accompanying pages. (Think: similar colors and layout, no ads, and more focus on badges.)

What do you think of the redesigned free homepage? Do you think Club Pogo will benefit from a similar organization scheme?
Whether or not you’re a free or Club Pogo member, feel free to chime in on these changes in a comment below.

I like the look of the free Pogo home page. I love the color scheme, I do think that some of the sections on it are much better organized than they were before and the page certainly does look a lot better as a whole.

As for Club Pogo getting a similar makeover, as long as when that makeover comes around Pogo holds onto the integrity of the site and doesn’t push even farther towards making Pogo Facebook with games. They seem to be awfully fond of heading in that direction now and I’m not too crazy about that.

I’m all for change and as long as it is for the better I say ‘bring it on’!

I am new t asking questions here but I wonder is there a place or games you can earn gems in. I think it would be nice instead of points to be able to earn gems.

Hi Laura, welcome! Normally I wouldn’t approve this message (because it’s a little bit off-topic and it’d be better asked in a higher-traffic thread like one of our Weekend Open Threads, which run Fridays through Sundays), but I figure since you’re new I’ll just let it through and answer it for you. You can only earn tokens in games, but sometimes a jackpot spin will award 5 gems. I’ve been playing for 8 years and haven’t seen anything other than tokens and wallpaper from a jackpot spin, so it’s pretty rare.

I guess the home page is easier to navigate then before. If I wasn’t a club member I’d just be content with having the games listed alphabetically and sorted by genre.
As far as the club page getting another makeover, enough already! Lura you must have an idea how many times that page has been tweaked within the past 2 years.
They say no ads but they are everywhere! There’s usually a download game advertised in the banner, not to mention on the side margin all the crap you can buy with gems (badges, mini junk).I go to click on a game and there it is again, another download suggestion and a mix-n-match badge. Pogo may not think those are ads but they are to me. :(
I just wish they’d focus on the games.

I love the new look, haven’t checked it all out yet, but what I have, I do like. Maybe the new look will steer some freebies into joining the club membership. Normally I don’t like changes but I do like this one.

The new pogo.com home page is far more appealing to the eye…but I am leery about such a change for clubbers. There are ALWAYS way too many glitches after anything changes. It makes me scared when they start shifting things around. The color scheme…sure give it a change, but be very careful on doing much else.

I dislike it, the colors are too bright, and I find it less attractive, and harder on my eyes. But I also hate changes, and I’m sure once I am forced to get used to it, it’ll be fine. :) Plus it’s just my color preference, I liked the colors before.
I also agree with Kelli, changes can be good, but one of the things I adore about Pogo is the stability, I play a lot of games on facebook, which isn’t a gaming site, but there are always errors, glitches, crashes. I love how Pogo *almost* always works for me. I hope with the changes, the possible problems are very few.

I don’t mind if they do a makeover. Sure, I’ll be annoyed for the first few days/weeks trying to find things, but I’ll eventually adjust. I just hope they don’t make it more Macromedia Flash intensive. It’s bad enough that the java is eating away at my memory, but the Flash makes it worse.

[I have an older computer which I should replace, but still find it unnecessary to put all the Flash embedded on the pages.]

And I agree with Amy. The script on other sites ends up refusing connections (especially Facebook as of late) and it’ll be very annoying if Pogo ends up getting routine errors.

i like it way better then the clubbers page — what would be really cool is if we could change the theme and colors!

I’m glad to hear someone else thinks its too bright. Hurts my eyes also. As I looked it over made me wonder why anyone would choose to jointhe Club Pogo vs just Pogo. Makes it look pretty inviting.

Hate it. Too much blinding white background.

I logged out and took a look at the new Pogo page when it first came out, I can’t say I’m impressed. It may indeed be easier to navigate but, to me, it’s much too boring with no real visual pop…other than the overwhelming brightness of all that white.

Add me to the group who dislikes change. Club Pogo has been made over a few times already, and it takes me a little time getting used to maneuvering the site. As for the new regular Pogo page, it’s ok but I didn’t have a major problem with it before the change.

Wow, I feel like such a numbskull…I joined Club Pogo over 1.5 years ago without ever perusing Pogo, so didn’t know the difference. And dumb me, I never thought about the words “Club Pogo” as opposed to just plain ole Pogo! Hehehe…must have been one of my very many senior moments. Anyway, I followed your instructions Lura and took a peek at the new page and I agree with a previous post…makes me wonder why pay to join…Mari does love her badges tho, hehehe. I like the new design, altho again, I don’t remember what the original looked like. Good morning all from rainy soggy and getting cold Dallas, Texas. Regards, Mari

I don’t care much for the (default) new home page. I don’t like only having only the first 6 games then having to arrow the next 6 etc. I find it all very cumbersome. Reminds me a lot of another site. (coincidence???) Good news is that if you use the links at the top (“All Free” & Category) the pages look exactly like the old home page (except with a white b/g). At least things are easier to navigate & use way less resources.

In their rush to become the “New & Improved” (using that expression very tongue in cheek) Pogo, I hope they don’t screw up what isn’t already broken. I’m still waiting for them to fix the friends list/block feature.

I like the new layout, much easier to use. Everything is also easier to find. I still can’t find everything under the club pogo page so I am looking forward to a new layout. lol.
