Battleship is coming along nicely and should be released by the end of this month! The game is scheduled to be featured in the next game night (after tomorrow’s) on November 6th, so it should be released before then or Pogo’s going to have to change up their promotion! Thanks Chadd for pointing this out! It’s worth mentioning that we are assuming at least a week of “sneak peek” mode where the game is “out” but not generally released — ie linked on the Pogo home page — before the game would be used for a promotion or event.
The graphics in the game are coming along nicely, everything is very shiny and sharp. Behold a loading image:
Here are some details about the powerups you’ll be playing with while you battle to sink your opponent’s ships (thanks John2!):
Some powerups are always available:
* Heavy Shot
* Counter-Attack
* Reinforcements
* Sinking Shots
* Torpedoes
Some powerups are unlocked at certain ranks:
* Rank 5 – Skipper Powerup
* Rank 15 – Harpoon Powerup
* Rank 25 – Attack Squadron
* Rank 35 – Tomahawk Powerup (Only Active if you have very few ships remaining!)
We’re still waiting on the badge graphics and requirements for Battleship, but they should be out soon. As usual, stay tuned to BadgeHungry for the latest information, and look for this game near the end of the month!

Oohhh… after Mini Golf was a disappointment for me, I’m trying to be cautiously optimistic about Battleship – Ah, the childhood hours lost putting little white and red pegs everywhere! I do wonder about not having any badges or other info leaked… Did anyone even Beta it? I tried for the Beta this time around just because of the rumors of getting to play this game. I’ll be holding my breath and hoping!

I’m so glad it’s going to be released soon. I was one of the lucky ones that was selected for beta testing and have to say I LOVE the game!! Can’t wait to get to play it with my pogo friends.

oh Road I am so jealous! Can’t wait for it to come out though either. Although I must admit unlike you Gecko I am still liking mini golf. although i am bored of it now because there is no new courses but i really do enjoy it

Ohh I can’t wait! The memories of breaking my old Battleship game because those stupid pegs got stuck in the screen lol.
@ Therese, it’s not hard, you just take turns shooting 1 portion of your opponent’s board and hope to hit one of their ships. If you hit one, you go again.
The power-ups are nice little additions this time around. I have good hopes for this one, especially since I’ve been satisfied with the other new Pogo games out lately (mainly Boggle and Mini golf).

I too am looking forward to this game. I do hope there’s an option to play bots though as I don’t always want to play against real players.
Therese, as Daniel says it’s not hard to play. The original game I played as a kid would start by you and your opponent placing your ships in a grid. Then you take turns trying to hit those ships. The ships are different sizes (as in the graphic) and take from 2-5 shots to sink them. If you hit one, you go again.
The game ends when one of you has sunk all your opponents ships!
Just had a qick look on miniclip.com and in the puzzle games section they have a basic version of Battleships there if you want to get the general idea of the game.

Shelly,Yes you can play against bots. You will like the game. It has several options from the original game to some Pogo specials. But let me warn you the BOTS are very good at this game. You will notice that an airplane drops packages with a chute. They will show up as groups of little squares. The power ups are hidden in those squares. So click on those squares for some great powerups that will help you win the game.

I too am involved in the beta testing and I think those of you looking forward to this game will not be disappointed. There is really something for everyone. The bots are good but there are lots of options for game play with all the powerups and strategy. I really think this game will be a winner for the guys and the gals.

Yes the game is good. I have played it as well and its good. The game doesnt have a ton of depth but its a good rendition of Battleship. The original never had a lot of depth as well, they did try to spice it up with a variety of powerups. The powerups are good however there still tweaking some of them, a few of them are a little overpowered in my opinion. A good effort by pogo, it will be a good game when it comes out on Nov.

Not a huge fan of this game but the power-ups make it playable. There’s all kinds of choices to suit most, including no power-ups, salvo mode, shots allowed etc. If you like the original you’ll probably like this one, and it never gets old hearing the bot say, ‘you sunk my battleship!’

I too got to be a tester and I have never played before this, I am enjoying it. The bots are smarter then others in different games, and I have learned they go for the middle of the table most of the time to see where the ships are, not always but most. I place my ships at the sides most of the time.
I think everyone will enjoy this game. Its fun to play with other people too, trying to figure out where they put their ships. LOL

I thought those of you who were on beta testing were told to keep it quiet and not tell people that your doing beta testing? That’s what I was told when I tried out for it and filled out the application. It states that your not supposed to tell anyone that your doing beta testing.
Question What the heck happened to October’s Halloween badge is it still coming out/

Im beta testing this game as well… and I have to say I was pleasently surprised at how enjoyable it is! I did not think I was going to like this game (seemed like something better off to play in real life rather then on-line) but with all the little “upgrades” they made its quite fun.
And…. thats all I am saying until the game is released! Once it is I will give tips galore ;)

I have to disagree with how hard the bots are. I’ve played bots majority of the time with only twice playing against other players and I’m currently 33 wins out of 37 games. There’s some tricks in ship placement that I’ve learned to beat the bots, but overall, I can’t say they’re that much harder than in any other game.
I’ve taken some screenshots of battleship and already grabbed the logo as I have a league and will definitely be adding it to the games we play so getting a headstart on the “how to’s” and “game tips” for my league lol.

Oh, I am giddy. Like, a little school girl almost. Battleship is an awesome game, and its wonder Pogo hasnt included it before now. Oh, it till be so fun much.
