Pogo Mini Snapshot : Ready for Fall!Happy Weekend Everyone!

What a great week it’s been! There seemed to be something new to post about every time I blinked! If you missed any, here are this week’s posts:

* Ranks and Badges added to BadgeHungry
* Sneak Peek: Out of this World PBA
* Beaker Creatures Secret Badge
* Block Builder in Development
* Pogo Beta Program Wrap Up
* Halloween Preview

And of course, we had this week’s challenges. There was a lot of talk about whether challenges have become too luck-based and/or too easy as well as some talk about how many tokens people were losing with Monopoly Slots.

Over the course of the week, a lot of people have mailed in and tweeted to me about the beta invitation and rejection letters. I’d like to pose the following questions:

If you were invited: what do you think you did on your application that got you invited? Do you have any wisdom to impart to your fellow fans who weren’t chosen?

If you weren’t invited: do you think you know why you weren’t chosen? What are you going to try differently next time?

See you in the comments!

Great job on the Ranks and Badges page! Its so nice to be able to get ALL my pogo info from one place. I visit your site before I even log on to Pogo every day! Thanks for all you do Lura!

On a side note, I would appreciate any advice for the Beta program. Ive applied a few times over the years and have yet to be accepted.

Great idea for discussion!
I received my rejection beta mail and was happy that at least they took the time to inform us we were not selected. I dont recall that happening before.
I applied under two different accounts and was selected on the one I seldom use. I tried to make each application opposite. Like how many computers do you have? 1 on one and 3 on the other…do you play at work? yes/no etc. The biggest surprise on my winning entry (LOL) was that I selected DSL for my internet hookup and I have read in pogos help section that they dont support DSL..go figure. I also kept my responses short like..what 3 things would you change about pogo?
1 bigger jackpots
2 more personal challenges
3 more club games
I really wonder if the whole thing is random though, who knows!

I didnt get an acceptance or a rejection email about beta but I
applied. Wonder if everyone got one? Kinda glad I didnt get
accepted since I am not sure I will like Battleship or Risk.

Thanks, Lura, for all you do. :-)

Very nice job on the Ranks and Badges page! It sounds like a lot of work went into that project so pat yourself on the back and have a glass of wine, a grande mocha, or whatever it is you prefer to drink after a job well done. Thanks Lura!

i did get accepted to be in the beta program. It is the first time i had applied and never thought i would get picked for something like that as i dont have great computer skills and maybe u dont really need that skill set for being a beta tester. I guess i will find out in time. lol I did write more than just a few words on what i would change about pogo. I wrote between 2 and 5 sentences for each one. I hope that i enjoy this session and that those that apply next time will be able to be accepted as a beta tester. I too wondered what was used to chose testers….If what we put as responses to the questions helps or if geo. location helps too. Since i live in a rural area in central USA if that has any weight in the process, so they get feed back from all areas of the country? Gl to all and have a great weekend

OMG Lura how the heck do you do it you have reached a lvl of AWESOMENESS noone could ever hope to achieve i cant wait for the addition of the hints you have gathered I have to agree with Jewls I visit here before I go to pogo and even leave the page up so i can see the responses lol anyways much to my surprise and delight I was picked for the beta tester I kinda got the impression they were looking for people that didnt have many or any friends that played as if they where trying to keep it as much of a secret as they could but I could be way off base but thats just what I gathered from the application thanks so much for what you do for us pogo addicts

on a side note Lura when I first started visiting the site I was kinda confused your a fan sight of pogo but you advertise a couple sites that rival Pogos shrugs anyways no biggie was just something that crossed my mind take care and good luck everyone

8

fier666 09.18.09 at 10:51 am

oh sorry I forgot, Battleship is awesome awesome cant wait for you guys to get to play it..

I was recently referred to this site by a friend and come here several times a day. Thank you Lura and all who contribute to make this site a great place to come to.

To HomelessDog, thank you so vey much for the hole in one screenshots. With practice I was able to play a game where I got 12 out of the 13 hio’s on the warm-up course. I am hoping that as time goes by HomelessDog and others will be able to share more screenshots and tips on how to play some of the more difficult holes such as sweet tooth, mad lab, big wheel and clown around.

Lura, thanks again for all you do to make this a wonderful fan site and kudo’s for the ranks and badge page.

Chelle 09.18.09 at 11:08 am

I couldn’t apply for this beta session so I can’t help out there. I don’t even remember what I put on the application when I was accepted last time. I remember that I didn’t think I’d get in so at the part where they as why you’d be a good beta tester, I said something like “I have no idea, I’ve never been one.” So I was pretty surprised when they picked me lol.

As for the badges and challenges: I have been happy with them recently. I suppose they have been a bit easy but when there is an easy week, I just pick a tough personal challenge. I think they offer badges for some of the games that depend on chance because they try to cover everything. Monopoly Slots is someone’s favorite game, so the badge is appreciated. I lost a few tokens while earning the badge but it wasn’t a big deal. Someone complained in a letter to the Editor that they started with 25 million tokens and lost 9,000. He or she went on to say “that is one mighty expensive badge” which I thought was kind of silly. 9,000 tokens is nothing, especially when you have millions. I understand that you can use them for mini items and entries in drawings, and I don’t mean to offend anyone that may not share my opinion, but I think it’s ridiculous to treat tokens as if they are money or something just as important.

12

Trish 09.18.09 at 11:16 am

Jst thought of something….YEARS ago pogo had sent me an email asking if I wanted to test some of their games….I didn’t pay much heed to it. Now I realize they were scouting at the time for beta testers!!! If I applied today….with all the formalities in place…I probably wouldn’t stand a chance…..lol

13

Gecko 09.18.09 at 11:53 am

I think I may have been turned down because I was honest about being good with computers and I said that word pogo hates – MAC! I said I use both a Mac and a PC to play Pogo, but that I prefer my laptop mac. Somehow, given that the free games STILL don’t work well with macs I’m guessing they don’t really want to support the mac platform – and with as much problems as they have when they release a game lately for windows, I’m guessing a universal release is out of the question. (Funny as it isn’t really harder to make something work under all browsers. I say kill support for IE and everyone can go to open source FF or GC! ) I’m guessing the beta wanted “everyday” users, but it is too bad as I felt I could give them more specific data in their terminology.

14

Lura 09.18.09 at 11:55 am

First of all thanks to everyone who’s giving me kudos on the game ranks section, but it’s totally not necessary. :) It was a lot of work, but it’s something I wanted to do and had been planning for almost two years. I just wish I’d gotten it up sooner, but at least now it’s there and I can focus on the other big task of adding in hints for all of the games.

fier666: that’s pretty much how advertising works: if you’re interested in Pogo, there’s a good chance you are going to be interested in some of their competitors’ sites as well. :) It’s less about my site being a *Pogo* fan site and probably more about my site being a place where people who play social casual games online congregate.

15

EvilQueen 09.18.09 at 12:39 pm

I applied but didn’t get in this time. Got my letter yesterday morning. I honestly think from seeing how betas with other games are that its just by chance that whoever is picked. I don’t think it matters if you have done a beta for anything before, play all the time or have a certain connection/computer. I think most games will just take a mix of it all.
And great job on the badges and ranks page! Thanks for doing all that and everything else you do here.

16

Mike 09.18.09 at 1:02 pm

Happy Weekend all!

I didn’t receive either a rejection or acceptance letter, so that makes me wonder. I also never receive their email newletter I had signed up for long before. However, when it comes to transactions involving money, (Gems addition and purchases), those sure do come through!

Have a fantastic weekend!

17

Cindy4764 09.18.09 at 1:22 pm

I had emailed Lure last night because I also haven’t received either a rejection or acceptance email and was wondering if others were in the same boat. I still haven’t gotten one.

I don’t think I receive the newsletter emails either and I’ve never received emails at the times they’ve gifted gems, but I do receive F/U emails when I buy gems or games. lol.

18

Kelli 09.18.09 at 1:34 pm

As Mike said….I neither got a rejection or invitation letter.I also don’t receive their email newsletter but maybe 2 times a year.I contacted CS about why I don’t receive what I signed up to get…of course response was like clapping with 1 hand lol Great site Lura! I hope I get picked someday as a beta tester. Have a wonderful weekend everyone !!!

19

Jennifer 09.18.09 at 1:48 pm

The “kudos” ARE necessary so just accept them graciously as I know you do anyway, because I personally know how much time and work you put into working on them….there were ALOT of hours and great effort you gave to get it JUST right and pacify everyone that comes here….And what a beautiful piece of work it is completed….
So remember its the weekend open thread and YOU always tell us that we can talk about and say whatever we want, and if thats thanking you for all your hard work…..then so be it, because the comments are relating to pogo games <:-) Muah (lol)

With that said…..

WHAT A KICK ASS JOB ON THE RANKS PAGES LURA !!!!!!!!!!!

20

Chrissy 09.18.09 at 1:50 pm

I know I’ve already said this but i LOVE the ranks and badges for the games. It was a brilliant idea to link it directly to pogo’s badges for the game. Thanks for that!!! Thanks for the Halloween previews as well, the mini items look great.

21

Baleares46 09.18.09 at 1:52 pm

Thank you lura for a fantastic site.

I was chosen for the beta testing and honestly cant remember what I wrote only one thing I do remember how many hours do you play pogo a week, well I as that seems all I do about 5 hours a day, maybe that helped.

Its a good game I think you will all like it.

22

Jennifer 09.18.09 at 1:55 pm

Oops while inflating Lura’s worthy ego (insert smile) because I know she hates it…….I forgot to say that Ive never applied for the beta testing, congrats to those that got in, and good luck next time for those still trying…….

and

I’m really diggin ( no pun intended) those Halloween Mini’s coming up!!!

23

MomsBassetHound 09.18.09 at 1:59 pm

Lura – Please add me to the group that think you did a wonderful job with the game ranks section. I always like to know what’s required for advancing in ranks, and usually you can’t find the info on Pogo’s site.

Mbpmorris – Thanks again for that great tip on Poppit last week. I was at rank 29 when I finished last week’s badge. After spending many hours in Poppit since then I have finally reached rank 50.

Did anyone notice that there was a letter to the Editor this week about a topic we discussed a few weeks ago? Someone wrote in that they had completed 15 badges in 1 day and wanted to know if it was a record. The Editor has asked that people email him with the most badges won in a single day. This is only for the first time you won a badge, doesn’t include badges you have redone. I sat down this morning and went thru 55 pages of badges and discovered that I had earned 15 badges in a day last September. Guess I need a life outside of Pogo :)

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!!!

24

Lura 09.18.09 at 2:03 pm

Jennifer: ahhhhh, stop it. Those Halloween minis I showed were only a tiny glimpse of the tons that will be available! I love what they do for Halloween every year, so creative!

25

Vics 09.18.09 at 2:20 pm

I got my rejection letter. I was picked a couple years ago and it was fun. I worked on suduko puzzle blast, golf solitaire and pogo addiction solitaire. I realy have no clue why I was not picked this time but my best friend was picked so I am thrilled for her.
Lura awesome love the badge tracker.
Have a great weekend all

26

dchash 09.18.09 at 3:00 pm

I agree with everyone else. Awesome job on the ranks and badges!! Love them!! I too go here before I go to pogo. As a matter of fact, I go here before anywhere else because I have made it my home page. Lol.

As far as the beta testing, I did not apply because I participated last year and I didn’t think about using my old screen name (darn). Anyways i honestly think the answers do matter but not how you think they do. My boyfriend (whom I share my pogo account with) is in school for computer programming and when they test things, they need a wide variety of users. For example, if they wanted 10 testers, they would get 5 mac, 5 windows, and in those 10, 5 would be experienced players vs 5 inexperienced, and in those 10, 5 would be, well you get my point. They want to make sure it works for everyone (except maybe mac users – no offense, love them!) and not just the addicts like all of us.

Anyways, keep up the great work Lura and thanks for making such a great (and addicting) site!!

27

Paint 09.18.09 at 3:38 pm

I too like this discussion idea. Picks may be random, but still interested to hear what people that were chosen had done. Maybe there’s a clue there.
I got the rejection email.
NOT chosen, what I did:
1. First time applied
2. Kept answers short. (Like Ede #3 who was chosen)
3. Mentioned Group Challenges (Read in Pogo they have them, never noticed one tho)
4. Play often (don’t remember what I put, maybe 30 or 40 hours a week)
5. No children in household
6. Know I answered their Pop Quiz correctly.

I loved the Halloween background minis.

28

Dallie 09.18.09 at 4:04 pm

I couldn’t wait for the weekend thread! I’ll bust if I don’t say thanks for the “surprise” Lura, it was so worth it! Now there’s abosolutely NO reason to go anywhere else other than BH, which IS the #1 pogo fan site out there imo ;)

Oh.. and I also can’t wait to be a zombie when the minis are released lol.

29

Penny 09.18.09 at 4:09 pm

I’m among the many who have applied and been rejected.Oh well will try again next time.
Great job on the game rank section.
Have a great weekend everyone.I also grab my coffee and come here first thing in the morning.

30

carol 09.18.09 at 4:09 pm

i used two different accounts and applied for beta one was acepted one was not.Put the same exact answers on both applications so it really is random on who they pick. In fact I only put one answer down for the 3 things i would change about pogo lol

31

sunnydde 09.18.09 at 4:26 pm

Vics, I was picked and worked on the same games you did. I didn’t get picked this time, I wonder if there is a conection.

32

Smarty59 09.18.09 at 4:36 pm

Well, i am not that sure, whether this tip will fit – or if most people think it’s cheating, but then it would be cheating too to use trivial and cross answers too… or to double browse.
And that’s my tip – instead of double browsing use 2 comps – u have to. And then shop in the mini mall for free… if this post is accepted, i’ll be back for more ;-)
Happy Weekend, and tyvm Laura for this great work

33

EdC 09.18.09 at 6:13 pm

The more I read this thread the more I think the whole beta selecting process is random. Maybe there’s some sort of checklist…50 who don’t work, 100 who play at work, 75 with no friends on pogo, LOL.
Guess I’m the only one not feeling the Halloween mini release. The backgrounds aren’t as detailed as in prior releases but maybe they had more on their plate with designing all the costumes. I am looking forward to spooky slots though and hope they add ranks since there was such a big stink about not doing it last year.

34

Michael 09.18.09 at 6:34 pm

Lura – I just want to say that the work you done on here is BRILLIANT. Like every1 else Iam amazed at how much work you put into this site. WELL DONE . I was the person who wrote into the Editor about Badges in my marathon daily RANK badges. I know you discussed about number of badges in 1 day, but these are RANK badges that we earn over time.I actually worked over 3 months doing so many points in different games every day. I know im sad , like you all im a Pogo addict. Anyway once again well done on a BRILLIANT site and take care. Regards Michael.

35

Candi 09.18.09 at 6:45 pm

I must be the only one who doesn’t get why being accepted into beta testing in such a big deal. Do you get paid for this gig? What if you’re stuck testing a game you hate? Guess I’m just content to play the games I like and wait for new ones to come out whenever they come out. I’ve never applied for the “job”.
P.S. Great job on the new section! From looking at other sites and now yours, I guess there’s no knowing how much of what it takes to get from one rank to the next in Poppit except watching your percentage creap up. I’ve never seen it mentioned anywhere.
Oh, and btw, having ranked out in MS and netting 1.3 million overall, it’s a time and endurance thing. If you keep with it, you can win and usuallly win big overall. For the short time it took to get this week’s badge, most players probably wouldn’t have gotten to a winning point. And altho I can see the point of those who ended up actually losing tokens after winning the badge, here’s a hint: KWITYOURBELLYACHIN – it’s just a game. LOL

36

Janet 09.18.09 at 7:14 pm

Does anyone know how to do the Pebble Beach Golf game. I just can not get it. And a big kudos on the badge hungry page it is so awsome.

37

surgeryrn7 09.18.09 at 7:35 pm

Hi Lura, the screen shots in mini golf are great, will you be comming out with more? they sure do help, thank you for doing it, and the great site

38

Lura 09.18.09 at 7:46 pm

surgeryrn7: I’m sure I’ve stated it before, but I’m not really fond of Mini Golf Madness. The screenshots aren’t really my project, they were a contribution from HomelessDog (and bitofaweapon sent in a few last week too). If he does more, or if other contributors send in theirs, I’ll be happy to add them.

Janet: use the search box on the right sidebar of this site to search for pebble beach golf. You’ll find tons and tons of weekend open threads where we’ve discussed that game and the badge associated with it.

39

Chrissy 09.18.09 at 8:17 pm

Congrats to all who got in on the Beta testing. I got my usual rejection letter lol. Oh well, maybe next time.

Janet: I had the same problem with that badge. Someone here told me to mail pogo about it and they would give you the badge. That was my plan till after 2 weeks of trying my Husband finally got it. He said on the little screen on the top left hand corner to keep clicking twords the hole after you swing. That’s how he ended up getting it.

40

kiki 09.18.09 at 8:25 pm

i applied with two names, one my constant Pogo name, the other a throw-away name. the throw-away was chosen. the same happened with another friend.

as far as being chosen, i think they look for a large variance in the demographic, but one thing holds true: express yourself clearly in your application. they’re not going to choose you if your app is full of so many spelling and typing mistakes that they fear you won’t be able to communicate with them. i feel that’s the real reason for the dreaded essay questions.

41

nephthys 09.18.09 at 8:48 pm

Candi: Because its fun to get to play the games before everyone else does! Its fun to work with everyone else and try to find those bugs… and since it doesnt affect your stats (they dont get transferred to your main account) it doesnt matter if you win, lose, how many games youve played.

I got accepted as a Beta tester. I do not remember all of my answers, but I typed a good deal. I -do- remember on the questions about how to change pogo that I answered:
1. Focus -more- on games and -less- on social networking
2. Make a page where someone can go to and view all of their current ranks and stats in each game, instead of having to go into the game to view your stats.
3. Make reading Pogo news mandatory ;)

I think it might have to do with “first come, first serve” for certain demographics. Im sure they only want so many players between different age brackets, backgrounds, etc… So even though you may be qualified, if all the slots were filled before they got to your application that may be why you got rejected.

Or not, Im just blabbing, lol

42

PetalmaneBaku 09.19.09 at 2:14 am

The first time I applied to be a Beta tester, they denied me.. I had answered each question with a lot of detail, and put a lot of thought in it.. I was somewhat brutally honest with what I’d change about Pogo/what I didn’t like.. The second time, I put maybe 3-5 word answers, and just said I wouldn’t change anything, etc. and they chose me!

43

Vics 09.19.09 at 2:48 am

Sunnydde thats cool that we were beta testers at the same time. I have no clue how they pick and choose the testers. I will apply the next time they offer it.

44

Donna M 09.19.09 at 8:16 am

Hi All, Great work on the site Lura! Thanks for putting in all the time and effort for us all to enjoy.
As far as beta goes I have applied a few times and have gotten in every time except for this one. My thoughts are its not really what you say or do on the application its the computer you are using. Every other time I applied I was using a fairly new computer. This time my computer recently crashed and I am using an older xp model that has been in the closet for about six years. My thoughts are that pogo selects by your pc instead of the application itself. They want to know how the games are going to run on the different operating systems and since this one is just about obsolete they are really not interested. Most people are much more current with the systems and those are the ones pogo is most worried about.

45

Indy 09.19.09 at 9:12 am

Vics, Sunnydde and I were obviously in the same “class” of beta testers a few sessions ago. I also remember mahjong safari and sudoko puzzle blast in the group of games tested. We had a lot of fun thanks to the variety and quantity of games we got to test. I really enjoyed it and I waited a while and then applied again this time and was accepted. I am happy to be involved again and am having a lot of fun in this testing site. I believe the selection process is random.

And Lura – great job on this site and the addition of the ranks which mesh so nicely with the badge tracker section. Don’t be so modest – all the kudos are well earned and it’s obvious the undertaking was a huge job for you and anyone who assisted. Thanks for making this a “go-to” site for all things Pogo.

46

DAWN 09.19.09 at 11:33 am

ok i will ask since beta testing is a new thing to me i kinda know what it is about now but how do u apply for it is there a site ? do they ask for applications? do u have to play it every day or a certain number of hours? thanks for ur help
lura: great job with the ranks page !!!!!

47

Lura 09.19.09 at 1:48 pm

Dawn: use the search box on the right sidebar to search for beta or beta program or anything else you’re interested in. :) Lots of info from posts over the past two+ years.

48

ketzra 09.19.09 at 2:25 pm

Just wanted to leave a comment about Thursday’s mini mall releases…Did anyone else feel a bit bummed that there was nothing new? I look forward to every other Thursday for the mini mall releases and while I appreciate re-releases, I didn’t spot anything new in the mall and I found that disappointing. Was there anything new and I’ve somehow missed it?!

49

Monica 09.19.09 at 3:44 pm

I was disappointed in the mini release alos but not becuse it was old items because almost all of the stuff needed gems to get what about those of us who can’t afford to get gems we don’t get any mini stuff

50

tigger 09.19.09 at 4:53 pm

i was also disappointed in the mini mall release as well, i liked some of that stuff, but would have been nice to see more stuff that was released from b4, and ketzra, when they re release stuff like that, they dont throw new stuff in..i wish they would have though..oh, and beta tested once, for sudoku blast, wasnt fun cause all ppl did was go on and on about this and that being wrong and what are you supposed to do with the blocks, etc..no one in charge of the beta thing came around, no interactions, etc…only interactions were from ppl in the room tryin to figure it all out

51

Melissa 09.19.09 at 5:03 pm

I was kinda disappointed that most of the items that were re-released were mainly gems and have become increasingly disappointed that a lot of the newer stuff is basically only attainable through purchasing gems. I realize that Pogo is a business and that they need to make money and that this is a way to make money, but the vast majority of subscribers are on fixed incomes and can’t spend money constantly on gems on top of the $40 for the yearly subscription. I would like it if Pogo would allow us to cash in our tokens, that we can’t really use, unless on slots games, for gems.

I didn’t get accepted this time around and will be applying for the next round betaing. My guess is that I was involved with it this time last year and therefore they didn’t want to have me do this round of beta. Don’t know how I could improve my application.

52

fier666 09.19.09 at 5:27 pm

does anyone have any hints with pogo bowl despertaly need help lol

53

Lura 09.19.09 at 5:45 pm

fier666: there’s a link to a good site here:

http://www.badgehungry.com/game-ranks/pogo-bowl-ranks/

54

pattyjean1957 09.19.09 at 5:57 pm

I read in the thread where Pogo says they don’t let people beta test back to back. Well my daughter has been a beta tester the last 3 times. I on the other hand can’t get accepted to save my life!

I did not receive a rejection letter either. Oh well, better luck next time.

55

fier666 09.19.09 at 6:16 pm

thank you you so much that helped alot I tryed to type pogo bowl on the side bar search but nothing came up thanks so much I even bowled my first Turkey and I got the badge I needed again thanks much

56

EdC 09.19.09 at 8:16 pm

comment 35 about what happens if you get stuck testing a game you hate…Tell you what, I am experiencing this right now :( But then again I absolutely hate playing table games(gin, spades etc) where you have to play against a robot or real person. When I’m on pogo I prefer games where there is no interaction with anyone else. I just don’t have much patience waiting for the other player to take their turn. Games with leader boards (SeaBall, Dice City etc) are just as bad in my book. Maybe I need to change my name to Debbie Downer!
On to another positive comment (LOL), why the heck is pogo tweaking their home page yet again?
Have a safe weekend everyone!

57

nessa 09.19.09 at 9:13 pm

I wanted to say Thank You Lura for the awesome work you did with the Rank and Badges page, hell of a work!! Wow !
I have two questions, in Yahtzee it says how many rank points you need for a new rank just wonder how many games or spins do you need to get one rank point. Second question, does anyone has any tips for Jigsaw Detective ? Seems to me that we need to solve a million puzzles for each case if you play on easy or medium and playing in hard mode …well I dont even want to try that lol. Thanks

Happy Weekend Everyone! I’ve never applied for the beta testing. I’m getting excited for Battleship and hoping it’s not a download/ buy game.
Also there’s the annual wait for Spooky Slots, it would be nice if there were new ranks and badge or at least a weekend challenge. We’ll see.

60

Lura 09.19.09 at 9:57 pm

Cyrabi: Battleship will be a regular Pogo game. I also think it’ll be available to non-Club members as well, but don’t quote me on that — I haven’t researched that at all.

As far as Spooky Slots, it doesn’t appear that they’re adding any new ranks or another badge, but it’s still a little early to know for sure.

Jillian 09.19.09 at 9:59 pm

nessa – In Jigsaw Detective, if you try to play on the ‘hard’ difficulty level, you’ll find that you can’t progress thru the case like we could before. It used to take 17 puzzles on ‘hard’ to finish a case but now we’re forced to play on ‘medium’ and it takes 29 puzzles per case. I never play on easy, but I’m sure someone else can answer how many it takes on that level. (my guess would be between 50 and 60.)

62

mmklima 09.19.09 at 10:20 pm

Since downloading and using the browser Firefox, my Jigsaw Detective is working fine. (While using IE8, It was messing up the clock. making it speed up.)

Every problem I’ve had with POGO games seems to be since I downloaded IE8. Well, POGO says that IE8 is a beta and that they don’t support it. So I just broke down and downloaded Firefox. I only usually use Firefox for POGO. I don’t like how it works for other sites.

Jigsaw Det. on hard will be 17 puzzles. You get only 4% game progression for the clue puzzles (There are 5 of them. No matter what level you are playing). For the in between puzzles, you get about 7 1/2 % for each puzzle played on the hard setting.

63

fier666 09.19.09 at 10:41 pm

does anyone know why you cant do the past months puzzles like you can the crossword cove and trival pursuit and word search kinda wish i could catch up on those as well since I took almost a 2 year gap off

64

Cyrabi 09.19.09 at 11:34 pm

Lura: Thank you for replying. This site is awesome, congrats on all the hard work.

ELL 09.20.09 at 12:00 am

To Smarty59 Not sure how that would work using 2 computers and shop for free at the mini mall although I didnt try it. Do you go in at the same time under the same name….. Anyhow sounds like everyone is having a good time on pogo this weekend. I just love this site and it just keeps getting better and better. Didnt apply for beta testing but maybe next time. Have a great weekend all.

just me 09.20.09 at 12:06 am

yes it is a great job you do on this site lura, don’t know where we would be with out you, ok i have an issue and of course there is no live chat with pogo so i submitted my problem, well i have been playing hangman hijinx, and the token count is not adding up, i left the room and went to another and it worked ok but my spin for next rank was wrong, here we go again with a token issue, has anybody else noticed this, i love this game and really don’t want to have to quit playing it but when it says i got over 300 tokens for the game but i am only awarded 87 seems silly to me that i would keep on playing, oh well will wait to see what they say, or if anybody has a suggestion. ty for listening

piper12345p 09.20.09 at 12:53 am

The last round of beta testing (or the one before — I quite don’t remember), I was rejected and was rather shocked. I mean, I’m a single male with disposable income! You’d think that they’d like my opinion, particularly because I enjoy video games and challenges. I even stated such things in the application, noting that I’m very observant on functionality when it comes to “beta” and was very willing to voice my own opinion.

But, ehh… I guess they were interested in other candidates. No matter. I’ll attempt again in the future perhaps.

Nessa — Yahtzee you earn credit towards your rank by getting Jackpot Spins. I found it best to play under tab Classic mode/Fast Room because you only need 225 points to get a Spin vs. Wild mode you need 250 points. Hope that helps.

70

l3ears Mrs. 09.20.09 at 2:16 am

Oopsie, hit enter way too soon. Nessa #57– Also Lura’s new Game Ranks and Badges Page has how many points (Jackpot spins) between ranks

I play jigsaw detective on medium. I dont want to play on hard as you have to rotate (right click) to get the piece in correct position. On medium. there is a series of 10 boxes, each box represents 3 puzzles. Iit shades about 1/3 each time) , for a total of 30 puzzles. Each case includes 5 “clue” puzzles and 25 from previous cases or case files. After 60 cases, these are repetitve and get old, most of us dont let the computer pick these. we go back into the main page and pick one of our favs to do. I recently added a second account and am so very overwhelmed at the thought of starting these puzzles from scratch, and have put off starting. They are easier badges to get than jigsaw treasure hunter, but jig treasure has a far greater variety of puzzles and you may enjoy these as well. I enjoy playing both, but sure do wish there was more variety in puzzles saved in jig det. GL whichever you choose and just have fun playing.

Hello, I was chosen for beta testing. Here are a few replies I recall giving. WindosXP,cable hook up,No friends,1 computer. I am retired perhaps Pogo thought I had plenty of free time on my hands.

Marithoner 09.20.09 at 8:14 am

Just had to comment to mmklima…thank YOU so very much for bringing up the matter of your clock running fast and how to solve it. I was going crazy trying to figure out why my clock was running fast every day and never noticed that it was just when I played Detective. Guess I wasn’t a very good detective myself. Anyhoo, thanks for solving my dilemma. I’m not sure how to switch to Firefox and I do have IE8, so I think I’ll just have to grin and bear it during Detective days. Lura, this site is so informative and fun and interesting, and it’s awesome how everyone wants to help each other. I’ve learned so very much since joining your site. Keep up the excellent work y’all! Mari

Brenda 09.20.09 at 8:40 am

Well this time I was chosen for the beta tester, I just kept answers short and sweet, Last time I went into details on my answers and didn’t get picked. I guess it is just random when they pick people to test these new games. I have noticed though not a lot of people are playing in there. Guess they don’t like the game. I have played with one person and the rest with bots. This will be a game I will not play all the time as it is very boring to me. Others may like it though, (mainly men).
I have to say Lura, that this is the best place I have ever been, and I thank you. I found your sight on pogo when a women was talking about how you can share comments and get lots of help with games. I asked her where to go and she told me. Thank you again for all that you do for us. Your the best!

75

mmklima 09.20.09 at 8:53 am

Firefox (it is actually Mozilla Firefox) is just another browser (like IE and all their versions). You can have 2 (or even more) browsers on your computer. (just remember the memory they take up.)

Remember the postings (on this site somewhere) that you can “double brows”? This is how you do it. It’s fun playing games against myself. (have to use another pogo account to play in the other browser.)

I downloaded it from the pogo help section. But you can probably find it another way. Only thing that bugged me about getting Firefox was, that my computer made it default browser. So, now, all my desktop shortcuts use Firefox.

It really isn’t that much a difference. Just POGO supports Firefox and I haven’t had any trouble with the games with it.

76

MomsBassetHound 09.20.09 at 9:01 am

For fier666 #63 – If you are talking about Jigsaw Detective you can do all the old cases. Just go to main page and click on “change case”. All the old ones at there.

Ro 09.20.09 at 9:45 am

Lura,
Great job on the game ranks; I used to go to the other site, but since that home page was redone, there are all these annoying pop-ups that just appear block the page. I thought about applying for the beta testing, but decided no because I would be the one to get a game I dont understand LOL…Thanks for a great job I just finished, after 3 days of going blind, the M M Poppit for 5 perfect games – will never do that again…have a great weekend all.

Lura, love the new badge and rank page thank you so much for all the help you have given us |(and also thank you to those that have helped Lura)..has anyone else notice the treasure chest badge that will be coming out in the new October Premium Album..that it is the same badge for Digging Carrots in Word Whomp..I got it last year…Jun 10, 2008..except the one in the new album is facing the other way lol lol..even the same color..thought I seen that before. Love this site..first place I go in the morning with my first cup of coffee.

79

Lura 09.20.09 at 12:43 pm

Jan: sometimes Pogo’s artists will put in placeholder badges and then change them right before release — sometimes the chat icon just looks like another things. I had a hard time finding what you were talking about, but I dug it up. I think the Pogo treasure chests are so stylized, it makes sense they’d look the same, but I’ll keep my eye on it in the future. Here are the graphics (old, then new) side-by-side:

Word Whomp Digging Carrots Chat Icon - Out of this World PBA Chat Icon

And sometimes the name of the badge will cause the graphic artists to change the badge before release — there’s an upcoming Crossword Cove badge that featured a blue crab, but when the badge was named “Crimson Crustacean” the artists had to change it to red.

80

Jan 09.20.09 at 1:00 pm

Lura …..just found out where the badge was located..took me awhile too lol..its in the Game Journeys Album had forgotten how pretty that badge is..so I’m wearing it for awhile…and thanks for the explanation how they go about doing the badges..they really do an excellent job on the badges..just think of all the hard work involved in that..know that sometimes we pick on them but when it comes right down to it, they have some very talented people working for them.

Another Susan 09.20.09 at 1:24 pm

I have applied to be a Pogo Beta Tester the last 3 times the opportunity arose. So far I have NOT been selected. Kind of makes you feel like the last kid waiting to be picked for a team. ;->

I know I have always applied the first week the the invites went out. I think I’ll wait for a couple of weeks before I try again. Maybe they had enough applicants of my age group since I am in the over 50 crowd. I’ll make a note next time I apply and see it makes any difference. It would be interesting to know if they use a true random selection or go by key words and/or demographics.

Lura thank you for all your hard work not only with the Ranks & Badges pages, but with making Badge Hungry a fun and informative daily read. Thank you to everyone who posted here with their tips and hints. You have made playing the games a lot easier.

82

Jennifer 09.20.09 at 1:49 pm

Brenda glad to see you found it :-)

Youll love it here, good to see you posting!!!

Look forward to seeing you around…..

fier666 09.20.09 at 1:55 pm

Thank you Susan I never really played it that much im trying to find games I havnt seen or played much I will defintly check that out, just like before a couple days ago I never played Golf Solitrare I figure its golf it has got to be bad but accually I really really enjoy it ive gotten disappointed inmyself ive been a member of pogo well since before pogo was pogo I switched my orignal name but for along time I was more into my 360 and playstation 2 then I was with pogo and I decided to come back and sheesh i wish I never left ive only got 420 something badges for all them time ve been with them anyways sorry for my drivle although there maybe a couple games that are not for me I love pogo and for what they do for the community and Badgehungry is def the best community within pogo just my two cents

84

EdC 09.20.09 at 1:58 pm

Tigger-thanks for your comment but hasn’t the regular pogo page been messed with enough? It seems like they keep changing it and I would rather their efforts go to something else..just my opinion ;)
I realize this thread is winding down and forgive me if this has been asked(did not notice it anywhere)..but does anyone know roughly how many beta testers are selected? I have always been curious about that, thanks in advance for any replies.

85

Daisy 09.20.09 at 2:06 pm

I love BadgeHungry. It has helped me immensely.
I have a request or food for thought: I love the Mini Golf Hole In One Shots and I refer to them often. What I’d love to see on here also are screenshots of tee offs… of all the holes, which will help get Par or just below Par.
I know there are a lot of Holes that will never be Hole in Ones, but this would help us get ranks!
Thank you.

86

ELL 09.20.09 at 2:31 pm

to justme There is a live chat option with pogo I have been it it several times and even have gone above the first person I chatted with. It is in the Help contact us section and after you put in your question it will give you chat option but sometimes there is a long wait but early morning is shorter. I was under the question of game ranks so I am not sure if it avaiable for all topics. Hope this helps.

87

Lura 09.20.09 at 2:47 pm

Daisy: there’s two schools of thought in that matter. I personally believe that a hole in one is possible for every hole (these are, after all, computers — there *has* to be a sweet spot for every hole) and I’m collecting screenshots to that end. I’ve received screenshots for par or under, but I don’t have plans to implement them because I don’t think they’re necessary…yet. In time, I may add non-hole-in-one shots but I think it’d be a nightmare to maintain, so I’m putting it off as long as possible. :P

ELL: everyone looooves Pogo’s Live Chat, it seems! I think they’re only “live” for certain hours of the day, though, and I think that was the problem justme had.

Jennifer: thank you, as always, for bringing more fans to this site. :) And thank you to everyone who’s spread the word about BadgeHungry — you’re what makes this site so special!

88

southernnana01 09.20.09 at 3:01 pm

I did check my spam folder and mail and like some others, haven’t gotten a letter on the beta program. have a gr8 upcoming wrrk everyone and happy badgeing.

89

Deidra 09.20.09 at 3:23 pm

Cindy4764-

I was unaware that there were ever gems GIFTED to us lolol… has that ever happened??!

90

fier666 09.20.09 at 3:27 pm

Lura there are some holes where you have to hit it on a transport spot and it will whisk it away and place it in a small area that you cant get to via tunnel or the hole that takes it and dumps it out now if you hit it from that spot and it goes in if its a hole in one I cant quite remember

91

Lura 09.20.09 at 3:34 pm

fier666: oh yeah… Well I’ll have to think about a way to show that, maybe. Are you sure there’s not just some way to smack the ball into the transport spot so that it results in a hole in one?

92

Kathy 09.20.09 at 3:59 pm

Deidra
I can answer that one. A few months ago I got 10 gems just for updating my personal information. Unfortunately, I can’t remember if it was an email or just something on the POGO website.

93

Jan 09.20.09 at 4:51 pm

Once upon a time in a faraway world, there was a jackpot spin. To this day Im not sure that it wasnt a figment of my imagination, but that JP spin did say that I won 5 whole gems!
Not much you can do with 5 gems, but its the thought that counts, right?
Have a good week all!

94

MomsBassetHound 09.20.09 at 4:53 pm

And there were gems given out by email…think it was around Christmas last year.

95

shygram 09.20.09 at 5:07 pm

I am new and I just opened the badge tracker and now I know why everyone is thanking you for all your hard work, Lura. What a task and what an accomplishment. Thank you.

96

fier666 09.20.09 at 5:19 pm

Lura no because the transports it then just drops it and you have to continuedont remember what hole I was on but it had three little spots to hit it to picked it up and droped it in a little circle off of the main area and there was a little hill in front of the hole

97

fier666 09.20.09 at 5:32 pm

ok found it its hole 6 called not so fast it has 3 arrows pointing to the spot you need to hit my mistskr its not 3 diffrent spots I aapoligize its hole 6 warm up think its aug 11 or which ever the date is at the bottom

98

Brenda 09.20.09 at 5:45 pm

I won 5 gems in boggle bash when it first came out. Not enough to get anything but it helped. I was happy to get them.

99

pat 09.20.09 at 6:39 pm

Also, when gems were first introduced, they gave all members at that time (I may be wrong, but I think im right) 20 free gems. All I know was that a good friend hung on to hers for the longest and didnt spend at mini mall. Lo and behold, some gem badges went on sale for 10 gems and she was able to get 2 free. So, they are capable of awarding freebie gems…..

Happy Weekend Everyone…winding down quietly, huh?

Now dont I feel like the Red-Headed step-child? I applied to be a beta tester AGAIN, (was involved about three years ago when Hog Heaven Slots and BlackJack Carnival was tested).

Get this—Im so low on the Pogo Radar that Ive NOT received a Rejection Letter NOR an Acceptance Letter!! :( sob sob sob Thats LOW!! Dont ya think?? Id have been happy to have gone looking in my SPAM Folder for it, snicker, snicker….at least it would have been an adventure, ROFL

Wonder what ya have to do to be acknowledged so you can be told NO you arent wanted?? But HEY, I can take a hint. :)

So thats my tale of woe for this weekend. Dont worry, Ill get over it. :) Quickly I might add, afterall, why would I be anxious to test Battleship, Risk or whatever those silly old games were? J/K

Good luck to all that all that were accepted and well done to those that were at least acknowledged, ROFL You did BETTER than I did!! sighs

Keep up the GREAT and AWESOME work here Lura, were all addicted to BadgeHungry as much as Pogo, dont ya know that?? lol

AND well give ya Kudos if we want!! nanananah

((Big Hugs to All)

Jeannie 09.20.09 at 7:33 pm

First, I wanted to say that you did an AWESOME job with the badges and ranks pages. I was totally blown away!!

There is one thing though. I started the Qwerty Silver World rank a while ago (did not look at first) and find that I still need 800 letters to my next rank. According to the ranks page, I should only need 600 to complete the rank. Once I complete this rank and move on to the next one (X), I will make sure I leave a posting about how many I need.

Thank you so very much for having this site. I love it.

102

widow 09.20.09 at 7:43 pm

the only comments when i came here early friday were about the beta tester letters…so i just read them and left. CONGRATS TO ALL CHOSEN! may be too late now to get this answered, or perhaps you may know, Lura: was excited to see old items again (disappointed the thurs. i couldnt get the 3 animated fairies to go w/ fairy background!). but my question is this: was the purple dragon spewing fire a limited item that sold out??? i soooo want to purchase that dragon, and hes not been back yet! thanks in advance…or if you want to wait to post this, i can ask again next weekend.
thanks for the great work Lura.

103

nephthys 09.20.09 at 7:49 pm

I assume Battleship would be free, seeing as all the Hasboro games have been for all pogo members so far… cant imagine they would randomly make one Club pogo only.

I wont 5 gems in a jackpot spin once and got those 10 gems from updating my billing information. Since I now have 30 months free club pogo (thank you subway!) I am more likely to spend some gems on mini items and MnM badges… I really didnt before.

104

sweetlove 09.20.09 at 8:21 pm

hello everyone!
I never have applied for the beta testing.I didnt know if you would have to play a certain many hours or no be on a certain time or something.I might apply next time.have nice rest of wekend everyone.see you all around next time good luck on comming week badges.
thank you lura an everyone that helps make this a wonderful an fun site!

105

fier666 09.20.09 at 9:47 pm

does anyone that plays mini olf know why it seems all the diffrent weeks has the exact same courses as the rest?

106

Lura 09.20.09 at 9:51 pm

fier666: I think the weekly ones are just there for “practice”, if I recall correctly. Maybe someone will drop me an email and I’ll pass it on to you. :)

I’m closing this one out now… I left it up a little late this weekend, sorry if that messed up your timing! (I got sucked into seasonal stuff in World of Warcraft — Brewfest! Yay!)

Have a great week, enjoy Fall’s arrival!
