Happy 4th of July weekend everyone!
I feel like this week’s comments got swallowed alive by talk of cheating and autos. It’s a worthy discussion topic, I totally agree, but it completely overshadowed some of the really great tips that our users gave for Boggle Bash and some of the new Mix-n-Match badges. With that said, I’m kind of burned out on the whole auto/cheating discussion, so let’s try to keep that subject to a minimum in this weekend’s open thread.
So, it looks like the next two games that’ll be released will be Mini Golf Madness and Crossword Cove — anyone want to wager a bet on when and in what order they’ll come out?
Also, this week in Pogo News, they mentioned Pogo itself will be turning 10 (and I just remembered Club Pogo’s birthday is around the 20th of July every year, this one marks six) — if you didn’t participate in our past weekend open thread that discussed how we all found Pogo, feel free to let us know how many of those 10 years have you been playing!
Happy 4th of July to all of our US visitors, happy Canada Day to all of our Canadian friends, and happy WEEKEND to everyone! See you in the comments!

Hi Lura,
Where did u get the mini background u have now? I want to get it! Was it from a few years back? Its my b-day on the 4th. I like that background more than the one I have and had the same for last year 2. Time for a new 4th background. Not crazy about the new stuff released for the 4th.
Thanks!

Happy 4th of July to all U.S. pogo members and Happy Canada to all Canadian players! Im looking forward to Mini Golf Madness and the Crossword Cove. However, if I could take a guess I would say that Mini Golf will be released first. Maybe Im wrong, but it just seems like Mini Golf has more details released than Crossword Cove.
Everyone be safe this weekend!
Neo 07.03.09 at 9:42 am
I hope everyone will have a good Independance Day tomorrow. Also a belated Happy Canada Day for those up north.
Boggle as I said earlier was a done really well. Its sad the Hasbro games usually end up being better than with pogos homebrew stuff.
Between Crossword and Mini Golf, Im not sure which will be next. Im looking more forward to Mini Golf. Anyone remember Highland Golf? That was a good golf game pogo had years back. As for Crossword, Im terrible at those. Im hoping they use the same puzzles like with the daily trivia.
Mini stuff this week was meh. Same thoughts as some prior releases.
booboo 07.03.09 at 10:03 am
Well Boggle is as good as I thought it would be. Was glad I was off this week to play it more than I probably would have liked to but its fun. Ive been on pogo since it was ten.net so a loooooooong time. Been club member since the beginning but not a charter member. I miss Triviatron and the Great Pogini lol. (youd have to be around a while to remember those). Glad some good games coming out on Pogo the 2nd half of the year because I was seriously thinking about letting my membership expire but Boggle, Crosswords and Mini Golf might keep me around a little longer if they are as good as I hear.

Ive been a member of Pogo since 2000. My current screen name, however, was created in 2001. I was 13 in 2000, so Ive pretty much grown up playing Pogo games. There were so many teenagers on Pogo back then, and people stuck to the tab guidelines (like, youd only find 20-somethings in the 20s tab and so on). I played in rooms under the teen tab and made several friends my own age, but over the years, they tapered off and Pogo became a site for people who were a bit older. Not that theres anything wrong with that, but I do have trouble finding people that I can relate with. It seems that the few people who are my age dont pay for Club Pogo, and I can only find them in free Poppit rooms. I dont like Poppit, and even when I play it and find someone my age, they are usually either half-cybering with someone or flirting like crazy with someone 20 years older than they are. The Club members Ive found that are my age already have a million children and thats all they want to talk about. Anyway, my point is that Pogo has changed a lot over the years, but the people I encounter is what seems to have been the most drastic change. Sometimes I miss being able to joke around with friends a bit closer to my age, but really I think Im okay with not talking at all. I just lurk…watch the older people talk about their marriages, children, divorces, work. I gotta say, most of them dont make it all seem very exciting!
About Mini Golf and Crossword Cove: I dont know exactly how Pogo handles games in the time between one group of beta testers and the next, but since they are replacing the current group soon, I would imagine both games will be released before then. If I had to guess, Id say Crossword Cove will be out first because its been in beta longer and last time I checked, it seemed to be a bit more fine-tuned than Mini Golf Madness.

ive been with pogo for 6 years–i can still remember my then-boyfriend-now-husband crowding around the Compaq (omg), yelling out words for Word Whomp. in fact, it was my husband who got me into pogo in the first place. now he rarely plays, probably because ive usurped his screenname. hey, it has all the badges!
word games got me hooked on pogo–whomp and bees, especially–and im loving boggle. im hoping crosswords bring a little more flavor and language enlightenment into my life, lol. golf? meh. but then, i like boardwalk much more than i thought i would, and thats a similar sort of thing. i think.
happy holiday to everyone, and remember, dont run with sparklers!
Wolfe 07.03.09 at 11:09 am
Brand new to Pogo. Been with the site for less than half a year. Looking forward to the yearly badge. ;)

Karo if you are reading this…..the little white lines under players names in Boggle are how many words they have got in that round but it only shows up to a maximum of 20. So if someone has only 5 of those little white lines they have only submitted 5 correct words so far.
Hope that answers your query :0)
Crossword Cove and Mini Golf…….I am looking forward to Crossword more than Golf as I like word games BUT from the screenshots I have seen of Crossword it looks really hard.
I had no idea what the answers were to the clues I saw in the screenshot so I think I’ll struggle with it.
The clues also seemed americanised. One of the clues was something about posts on the highway?
I am hoping that there will be a choice of American version and a UK version like in wordwhomp but I doubt it….lol
Terry 07.03.09 at 12:22 pm
I love boggle too…A great game!!! I have been with pogo since march of 2000 :)
Gecko 07.03.09 at 12:46 pm
lol, I had to go check my account to see when I joined – over 2 years, but only 8 months as a club member. As I said in the other thread, I started because of my boyfriends family all had free accounts to play bridge – literally from sea to shining sea! (Boston to California!) On topic and on theme!
I cant WAIT for mini golf. I think there are a lot of word game choices already and I like a few, but mini golf is a missing niche. Im not playing anything serious like Pebble Beach (especially with as much as people complain about it!) but the only other thing remotely close would be pool – no cool themes there. I think CC will be out sooner as it looks like the leaked stuff is further along, but with them just releasing Boggle, I hope MG comes first – two word games in a row would be bad marketing, IMHO. Have a safe holiday all Canada/USA peeps!
Sandy 07.03.09 at 1:16 pm
LOL I actually do remember the Great Pogini!
I am looking forward to both of the new games. However, I love Boggle. So I can be patient.
Happy 4th. Enjoy!
Bryan 07.03.09 at 1:59 pm
I have been a member since 2003 when I was twelve years old. I had found pogo through a friend in school and was only using “club pogo” through various guest passes. So, I played sporadically through those years until this year. That was when I finally subscribed for club pogo and I then started with badges. Looking back though, I am a little sad to know all of the badges and tokens that I could have had. But it’s fine now.
I am looking most forward to Crossword Cove. I love doing the daily crosswords from my local newspaper and other magazines, so I think I will do well in that. Mini Golf…..maybe not so much.. and I hop crossword is released first.
Angie 07.03.09 at 2:49 pm
how does one contact customer service live with a person??
I am missing a badge
Karo 07.03.09 at 3:07 pm
Shelly, thanks so much. That explained it perfectly. =)
I’m mostly looking forward to mini golf. I’m not very good at crosswords, although I am willing to give it a try.
This week I decided to do the Pebble Beach badge. I wasn’t even aware of it til everyone started talking about it last week. Don’t shoot me, but I’m actually starting to enjoy the game. So far I’ve managed to get 1 spin. Thanks to all who suggested the golf help website, it really does help.
Happy 4th/Canada Day
Have a great weekend all!!
cw11 07.03.09 at 3:33 pm
Since March 2005 for me…had been on earlier avatars of the site but couldn’t get my password/screen name combo to work so I just rejoined. I know nobody here has anything like this, but I’ve developed just a tiny bit of a problem with Pogo addiction (1535 badges so far).
I haven’t done a lot of online gaming at other sites…with the exception of Acrophobia on Bezerk. Now there’s a game I’d like to see Pogo revive. We had some great times and hysterically funny chat…I STILL can’t hear the word “vicuña” without laughing out loud. I suspect it’s one that couldn’t get overrun by game Nazis as have Word Riot and Everyone Wins.
justaharleygirl 07.03.09 at 3:36 pm
Chelle, your post made me chuckle ~ too cute! LOL
Two paid accounts (possibly 3 ~ am debating it right now LOL) and 2 1/2 years later I am a proud POGO Badge Ho! Tokies are nice, but … once I hit a certain amount the novelty seems to have worn off.
I absolutely LOVE the mini release this week!!! OMG I have been waiting for something *cool* to come out. Other than Mardi Gras, I have been soooooo disappointed. I think they could have came out with more goodies but wow, finally! I love my pink piggie tails and don’t think I will *ever* take them off! ;)
LOVE Boggle Bash as well! If they came out with nothing but word games from now until forever I’d be more than fine with it, but am looking very much forward to Mini Golf Madness just the same. I couldn’t even begin to guess which will come out first or when. I see they pushed back the new premium album to August, and the handhelds til August, so at this point, I’m glad I have Boggle to keep me busy.
Hope everyone has a super awesome safe 4th!
Cheryl 07.03.09 at 3:38 pm
I don’t use a cheat program, etc. but can usually wipe out a room. I am a word smith and a composition instructor–words are my life. Just because Laur finds them “jibberish” doens’t mean they are. First, boggle bash takes any words except obvious racial slurs (chink is unaccaptable but chinks can be used). It also uses foreign words, slang words, old english, latin and greek (all of which I am familiar with since Medieval English Literarture is my field of specialty). Another hint for scoring is to type and NOT use the mouse. When you find a word, quickly type it using -s, -ed, -ly, -ing, and -or. You don’t have to look for the words, just type fast and see if they work. Also use the volume. It uses different tones for unacceptable words, words you’ve already used, and when you type a letter that is not included–thus you can type fast without worrying about whether the letters are truely there. This version also excepts british and american spellings of the same word–so try them both.
ca4evergirl 07.03.09 at 4:51 pm
I’m hoping that Crossword Cove will come out first! I love crossword puzzles, so I’m obviously biased. ;)
As for how I found Pogo.. my ex boyfriend introduced me to it back in 2003. We used to play together online in the wee hours of the night (I worked nights, he stayed home lol). When our relationship ended, I became a Club Pogo member and I was waaaay too occupied with all of the exclusive games to spend much time pining over him! :) I think I’ve been a Club member for just over 6 years now. All but one of my Weekly albums are completed (I’ve got a few in 2009 to catch up on) and I have purchased every Mix-N-Match badge that has come up! I’ve also purchased every Premium album, as well. I suppose you could “kinda” call me a Pogo-Addict! :)
brockdl76 07.03.09 at 5:15 pm
happy 4th of july to all. OHHH you did bring back memories with the mentionn of the great pogini i have not thought of that game for a long long time. There was also another game where there was tiny ships that drew lines through a field and make the field smaller and smaller i dont remember the name of that game but i kind of enjoyed that pogo took that off many many years ago too. I am looking forward to both the new games and have enjoyed boogle much more than i though i would. I am not a great one for word games but this is one that i kind of like. I hope that everyone has a safe and happy 4 th
Wendy 07.03.09 at 7:30 pm
Finally, someone else who remembers Triviatron! :)
I found Pogo by searching for free trivia games, about
seven or eight years ago.
I quickly became addicted to Triviatron, it was such a great
game and the players were almost always fun to chat with.
I even studied state flowers, birds, nicknames, etc. because
the game asked so many of those types of questions! lol
Trivial Pursuit is terrific, but I still miss Triviatron.
Happy Fourth, everyone !!
Kevin 07.03.09 at 7:49 pm
I’ve started playing Pogo right around 2004, but I went on a 2 year hiatus from it afterwards. I came back in December 07′ right around Christmas and I have’t miss a beat. I have completed all my yearly badges from 07-08, and soon 09. I got lots to catch up on back years, and I do all the extras.
So about 4 years give or take, and I’ve done alot the past 2. Always looking forward to a good challenge instead of complaining. I mean what is a challenge if you’re not being challenged? Not every badge challenge is going to be EASY, yet people find a way to complain. Ever since Boggle Bash came out, I am beginning to love it as much as Lottso Express.
I look forward to what’s in store in the future, with Crossword Cove and now Mini Golf Madness coming out. I am looking more towards Golf, as Pebble Beach isn’t a game I’m good at. And Lura, when are the server problems ever going to be fixed? I’ve seen that above my badge progress for the longest time, and I was wondering. I’ve been patient for awhile, but I wonder what is it going to be fixed?
And is it just me or does anyone have problems contacting Oberon Media? Those who have bought Pogo games in the past, know who they are. Been contacting them about Way To Go Bowl game, it won’t load and run properly. Been many months I sent a complaint, but no response. :(
cw11 07.03.09 at 9:24 pm
For Oberon Games, I’ve found going directly to the form on their Web site to be the most effective way of getting an answer: http://www.oberongames.com/support.asp#
Their developers are mostly in Ukraine, Romania, and Israel…so who knows where tech support might me.
Fionavar5914 07.03.09 at 11:23 pm
Thank you again Lura for maintaining this site.
I have a suggestion for the personal challenges:
Is it possible to pick a couple of games a week, then post a “badge hungry” room (e.g. Temp room ### in a social room) that people from this site would go to to help each other with badges?
I would gladly help someone in euchre or hearts, if anyone would help me in chess. The rooms could be limited to the games where we need opponents.
I’ve finished my pc for this week, but if anyone is interested, for next week I’d like to nominate “skittles” in social room, chess and “mess hall” in beginner room euchre. If anyone else is interested, we could meet there starting next Wednesday to help each other. I’ll be in one or the other next Wednesday night.
I realize many generous people have offered to help others with badges via this site and it’s appreciated. It is sometimes difficult to arrange a mutually convenient time to meet and play, and I’m hoping that this solution would help us to eliminate some of those lingering badges.
Mari 07.04.09 at 1:06 am
this is totally off subject but i want to know why pogo wont give us US ppl a us flag tee, there is a UK one and a canada one but what about us??? this weekend is to remember our country and i would have loved to put a flag tee… i have nothing against UK or canada, i have some close friends over there in those countries but come on POGO please get us that tee.. we only got 1 mini holding a flag but some of us cant afford gems to get it….
Vics 07.04.09 at 7:36 am
Have a safe and happy 4th everyone!!! I’ve been with pogo since 2004. Have completed all 2003,2004,2005,2006,2007,2008, and up to date on 2009. Have purchased all premium albums completed them. All mix n match completed all but current ones. Guess I am a pogo addict too lol…
I too love word games but am loooking forward to mini golf as well.
Take care all

“my age already have a million children and thats all they want to talk about”
Chelle, I more than understand this comment from you even though I was 19, not 13, in 2000. Word of advice, your friends will come find you in a few years when they realize they lost who they were and, for lack of something more polite to say, realize that being a parent has become mundane. I have no children of my own and they all seem to snap out in a few years. I’m not saying these things to get other parents in this room up in arms, but this is a sad truth that happens too frequently to people who are childless. All I’m trying to really say Chelle is that you aren’t alone.
Chelle 07.04.09 at 10:08 am
Thanks, ketzra! Pogo aside, my real life friends are all like this too. As someone who extremely dislikes children, going out with friends who have kids already is soooo boring. It’s nice to hear they’ll grow out of it. Gives me hope! lol
Susie 07.04.09 at 12:17 pm
Happy 4th Everyone (and a belated Canada Day)!! Found Pogo in 2001. Had my real name…forgot pw LOL but now this one has all the schuff so Im stuck! Have all badge books compete except for current M M. I LOVE Boggle…thanks for the tips on the other thread! I know reach the board from time to time. Be safe all.

Hi I found pogo bk in 1999 after being in a car accident I started thru the site IWON my fave game at that time where I met many of my friends was E-Z Win bingo now they dont even have that game of course it was before club pogo lol now since club pogo I am officially a badge and rank hoe lol
Tim 07.04.09 at 5:04 pm
Happy 4 of July to all. Ya I had my say and I will say no more on boggle just to say again I love it. I do like the new mini stuff and it seemed to me like they had more items for tokens then for gems this time around so thats nice. I am looking forward to minigolf and crossword cove, I recently signed up for the beta team so I hope to be picked up. I think it would be nice to beta test new games and give my opinion on it.
The way I found out about the site is thru a friend, His kid was playing battlezone the original one, vector looking graphics and all. I asked what the site was and he said it was pogo and been hooked every since. I have not been a member long, I have played a lot of online games and I always come back to pogo for there new games and the very nice community, on there site and yours. I am going to keep my fingers crossed I get picked for the beta team and stay safe every.

I have been a player for 7 years. Even before there was a club pogo. We use to just play and chat. There wasn’t all this worry about cheating and bots and other silly stuff. I kinda miss that. I am excited about the new games ( as always!). Have a great 4th everyone!!
sweetlove 07.04.09 at 11:55 pm
happy 4th everyone!I started playing pogo in 2007 I found it off of yahoo when I played some games there.I like the boggle too so fun helps someone get better and faster at typing.i like all the word games not so much word jong kinda hard when you get down to a few letters and you have to win to rank :(
golf and crossword …hm…I’m not good at any of them but I think maybe the golf one will be out first.
Eric 07.05.09 at 2:46 am
Hope everyone had a safe 4th.
Just had to put my two cents in here as well as a few things I noticed:
-Trivial Pursuit was awfully morbid on the 4th.
-I did notice large quantities of people “leaving” the Boggle rooms simultaneously. Some of them would go from 50 people to 4 in a matter of a second. And they were all names which would score like 60 unique words. A few other players, as well as myself, thought maybe there was a mass “booting” of “cheaters.”
-About 10 comments up, Mari notes there is no US flag mini T-shirt. I know quite a few veterans that feel wearing the flag on clothing, other than on a uniform, is considered highly disrespectful. Might have something to do with it.
-Looking forward to MiniGolf
-LOL, I did get cheated out of my Thousand Island Solitaire mini items. I was awarded them, but it was when Pogo was implementing them so I got “Claim your item” links to dead pages. I was so hoping to be a giant Orange!
bradneyspride 07.05.09 at 9:00 am
Hi all, my Aunt told me about pogo back in 1995, i used to go to the local library to play. I dont have that same account :( couldnt remeber my name or password. I remember when they started Club pogo, they were offering special pricing to join, but since i didnt have a computer at home i didnt want to join, good thing to. Not long after Club pogo started did the library change their firewall and i could no longer log on to pogo (they considered it a gambling site and blocked it). So i listen to my Aunt talk about “pogo this and pogo that for years”. I wasnt able to get my own computer until 2006. When we got back our taxes that year I called Dell on ordered my computer, and as soon as I hooked it up, I joined Club Pogo, and I’ve been “hooked” ever since. I have now successfully “hooked” 3 friends and another Aunt into my addiction. I have completed weekly albums 2003,2006,2007,2008, 7 mix and match albums, and 15 premium albums, at first I bought all the albums and all the mix and match badges, but found I was buying some I had a REALLY hard time to complete or they were in games I really didnt like, so now I pick and choose more carefully.
I really hope mini golf comes out first, i love to play mini golf on other gaming systems. Not really looking forward to crossword cove, i’ll probably only play for badges. I dont like crosswords, im not very good at them. Hoping to find help here like with trivial pursuit, when there is a challenge ;).
Robin 07.05.09 at 11:02 am
I am equally excited about Crossword Cove and Mini Golf but my guess would be MG before CC because they just released a really cool and awesome word game and I think Boggle’s greatness would take the excitement off of another word game right after.
Love, love, LOVE Boggle and can’t wait to see if I can get that 10 letter badge!
Have a great weekend everyone and happy boggling!
YankeeRose 07.05.09 at 2:11 pm
I’ve been on Pogo since February 2002, and a Club Pogo member since late 2004 or early 2005. I’m not totally sure…lol. First found out about Pogo from a few classmates in my Senior year of HS. Been on Pogo every day ever since. Crazy!
Summer of 2004 I met my now boyfriend, soon to be husband on Pogo. Still remember that day as if it was yesterday. Ahh, the memories! I’ve met some really CLOSE friends on Pogo as well.
Excited about Mini Golf, but not too sure about Crossword Cove. I don’t care for word games much, but will play them.
zzingcrazy 07.05.09 at 8:53 pm
hi all,
I’ve been a member since Oct 2001. I just found the site by accident, I love all games and was looking for a site with many to choose from. First game i played was word whomp, then poppit!! Then I found word riot and thought i’d died and gone to heaven!!! Was the best game EVER!
So when club pogo became club pogo, I hesitated, but figured I’d give it a try. Right after I joined pogo took word riot off the site!! : ( I was devastated, but figured I had a few more months on my 1 yr membership might as well make the best of it.
LOL, so over 1500 badges later and many yrs I’m still here. For the money and the amount of time I spend at pogo, it is well worth it to me~~!
I tend to keep to myself these days, but pogo is still the best place to be!
Pogogirl 07.05.09 at 9:22 pm
Hi, all! I could really use some tips on an old Mix-n-Match badge that I bought without really reading the challenge first (learned my lesson on that one!) It is the “Web in the Window” badge for Rainy Day Spider Solitaire, and you have to win 18 games on “Hard.” Now, the good news is that I can win games on “Normal” difficulty level. However, I really can’t win them on “Hard.” ANY suggestions would be MOST appreciated.
Happy weekend all!
Lura 07.05.09 at 9:32 pm
Pogogirl: sorry, I’m closing this weekend thread out right now. Feel free to come back next Friday and ask your question again; I usually close these weekend threads out on Sunday evenings around 9-10pm EST.
Either way, my tips for Rainy Day are always the same. Use your free spaces and use your undo button liberally. Good luck!
Thanks to everyone who came and participated — it’s been a nice relaxing holiday weekend around here! See you next weekend!
