Weekend Open Thread

Mahjong Safari was easy, which was nice because I am already ranked out in that game. Monopoly was a test of my patience for sure, but I got through it on a customized game.

Monopoly slots I have been enjoying. I know a lot of people say it moves too slow, but I don’t think it moves any slower than other slot game ranks, and it’s more interesting than the others. I am already at rank 5 and have unlocked the camel game piece. I think I will have no problem ranking out in this game, I enjoy it!

Oh, and love the new updates to POGO, especially the shopping cart in the mini mall. I managed to spend over 1.5 million tokens just playing around in there. I guess I will just count myself lucky that now I own everything you can buy with tokens and will probably never spend that amount at once again!

I’ve been waiting for this weekend thread to vent LOL! Seriously though, Yowza thank you for your post; now I don’t have to type as much as I agree 100% with your post LOL. I am infuriated with the release of minis to non-club members! It’s hard enough to be original, and now non-club members get to jump in the pool too? But it also upsets me that they give them more and more. AND the Club POGO items they reserved — wouldn’t take them for free. Did they just pick numbers or do an *eenymeenymo* picking them? Personally I don’t think non-members should be allowed *any* gem items. It’s ALL about the $. Why in the world, other than badges at this point, does it pay to even be a member anymore? And I’m sure eventually they’ll give them badges too. I’m extremely upset over this. Each day my sense of enjoyment diminishes with POGO. The mini awards were okay, nothing to write home about. I do hope they add more items/ranks in order for people who are ranked higher to get different stuff cuz again, EVERYONE has the same items. Love the shopping cart though LOL. (see I CAN be positive, heehee). Actually I feel they are shooting themselves in the foot by giving them more and more cuz why should they pay now? I’m paying $40/year plus all my gems. They are paying $0 plus gems — hmmmmmmmmm. Oh yes, we get PC LOL! I can’t believe they put that in there as a perk. I don’t know anyone who PC’s anymore; ugh.

Then I noticed they changed our account info stuff. It may not bother some, but it doesn’t say when your membership is up or how many days left anymore. I want to know this as I have 3 paid accounts and sometimes do the trials too. They changed the format too which I don’t care for. Why do they always have to fix what’s not broken?

Won’t even go into Monopoly Slots again; made 2 posts already. But no, I won’t be playing it and I am ranked out in almost every game on POGO. It’s one of the worst games yet IMHO. And this 10 people to a room stuff really stinks. Yes, I know why, but maybe they shouldn’t make games like that then. The whole POGO thing is hanging with your friends, and it’s kinda hard to do when you either can’t get into the same room, or there’s only 10 allowed. They are almost pushing people to be more solitary.

The challenges this week were super easy. I do wish that they would come out with some multi-player games in challenges AND Mix N Match. My boyfriend and I like to play a lot of the card games, pool, and other games together and there hasn’t been anything for ages. Seems like it’s always the same games over and over.

Whew! That felt good LOL. I am sorry for being so negative, but it’s just my .02. It’s more satisfying to vent here with people who may agree rather than email POGO who throws your stuff to the side or gives a pat answer. I really enjoy reading what everyone has to say.

It may just be me but does anyone else return to rank one on Monopoly Slots when they leave a room? I don’t like that but no answer from pogo yet LOL

Just want to say that unfortunately I am locked into a year long membership with my names, so I can’t just *not pay for it*. So it’s upsetting to have POGO make changes like this and then I don’t have a choice. In the future I won’t ever renew for an entire year again. Yes, it bothers me that 1,000 more people will look like me, but it’s the principal behind it, not that my life will end because of it. POGO is not loyal to their members anymore; it’s all about the $$$ ~ Minis, badges, etc. were the draw to being a member and unfortunately they are taking it all away. I completely understand and appreciate people not wanting to pay for or unable to pay for memberships, so this is all good for them. My whole feeling on all this is that POGO is taking away things that were promised solely to me as a member when I did join. There is little to differentiate members from non-members anymore. It’s the whole POGO/$$$ thing, not that I have any problem with non-members.

hi everyone…well, looks like just about everything i was thinking has already been covered lol. as for what barbara was saying, yes, it happens to me too. when i left one room i had just reached rank 2. went into another room and was back at rank one. i am also finding when i change rooms my game piece is not where i last left it? i have also emailed pogo hoping for an answer. i asked them about more dice also. been playing since this game came out and have lost a ton of tokies and made no progress. i do have a question someone may know the answer to. if you watch all 5 reels you will see all have dice on them. why are we getting only dice on reels 2 and 4? the object of the game is to roll dice and move around the board each time your turn comes up. that is how it was played when i was a kid. this game there are hardly any dice and not a lot of moving…the only thing moving is the tokies as they fly out the window..lol. anyway does anyone know why we dont get the dice on reels 1,3 and 5? for the rest bahhumbug!!! i agree the only good thing is the shopping cart in the mini mall. love it!!! i may have to give up playing monopoly slots (sniff) NOT…so i can keep tokies for my mini to go shopping. if i spend all her tokies she will not be happy with me lol. would rather spend them on mini me..at least she will have something to show for it..unlike my progress in monopoly slots. hope everyone has a good weekend. if anyone is near all the bad weather please take care and stay safe. here in southern california spring has sprung and it is very nice. love and (((hugs))) to all. see ya next time.

hi there ,i agree with all who say pogo is money,money.i asked for help with the phlinx badge i did get answer but i dont no how to do what they say and sale final yikes,time is 2 hours well tried agin time run out then pogo says i was in ur name and the badge is not activated then i get this song and dance how to do it well are they nuts nothing like we will help you but instead i get this ,plus a bunch of stuff i cant do so im not giving up on them .when my gems are gone i wont be buying anymore so they,ll lose my money i have 451 gems left what a shame i bought these at 30.a go. this is the only place u can air how u feel or as u say 2 cents worth.i wish spring or summer would come soon the way it is here we only get 2 seasons fall and winter at least how it feels snow ,ice coldbrrr lura u great person love ur site hope all is well oh yes i to got errored out monopoly never got my stuff either ,my it also seems to me alot of people not happy with pogo for lots of reasons they should be happy u pay to join plus spend for gems (which is alot for me ) plus albums they will lose me if they dont wise up wellll hagd

As a Club Pogo member, I do not feel threatened in the least by all the privileges they are giving to regular members. I pay the membership fee for the games and badges, not for the minis and gems. I really don’t care about that at all. They have to give regular members something to stick around for because you can only take so many hours of Poppit! Imagine a regular member spending money on gems every week so he/she can play a Club Pogo game. Over time, that would add up to more than I spend for a full year to play all the games. I think that fact would make people decide to go ahead and buy a membership, which is what Pogo wants. I think it’s a decent idea, and besides, I really like the stars behind my name in all the games.

As far as Monopoly Slots goes…I’m still rank one! I’m not usually too concerned with ranking up in any game, but it’s kind of fun to try for it sometimes. I am not one of those people who ranked out on Hog Heaven in a matter of days. It took me a long time because I like the game and I do enjoy playing it, but I can’t stand playing it for too long because it’s so mindless. I did rank out eventually, though, by playing while reading, watching movies, etc., and I plan to do the same thing for Monopoly Slots. Another thing I like to do is load the slot game under my screen name in one browser, and then open Pogo in another browser and sign in under my boyfriend’s screen name. Then I can rank up in the slot game while playing another game I also enjoy.

I for one am sorta happy with the new mini mall. However once I tried on the item and went to buy it my mini had changed. I couldn’t get the reset to work…hope it is just another thing POGO hasn’t worked the bug out yet. I do love that I can now buy more than one item at a time cause being on dial up took me usually an hour to buy a few items.

quick question about trivial pursuit. If i switch to pogo uk and complete their pies, does that count towards completing pies for my us rank?

I love the Mini Awards. I particularly love that it instantly shows you your rank progress. I hope they offer that availability for every game.

Monopoly Slots was nice, but slot machine games are so boring. Monopoly is my favorite game ever, but even having a slot machine based on it was only good enough to keep me entertained for about 3 minutes.

Jay, yes, it counts towards ranks….therefore you rank twice as fast if you play on both the UK and US sides.

ok why does it matter what non clubbers get and such???it does NOT matter, there r way more important things in life than worrying over, omg this person has this and that, come on ppl!just play the games and buy what u wish and dont buy what u wish, its just a frickin game site and the internet!!i love the changes, got my free items already :) does no good to crap on anyone or pogo, they just like makin money, which companies do that lol

I agree 100% with Yowza about non-club members getting more “privileges” that we Club members pay for. It’s getting a little ridiculous. Not only do Club members have to pay for membership for all these EXCLUSIVE things but we pay twice as much if you include all the extras we buy including premium goodies such as mix and match and limited edition badges. But now they’re allowing non-Club members to be privileged enough to be able to have mini items? Seriously, WTH Pogo?! Wasn’t the whole point of us joining the Club to get exclusive content. Even though not all items are available to them, but it’s still an insult to Club members that do actually pay for membership. Next thing you know non-Club members will be allowed to have our badge album privileges and will be able to buy mix & match and have weekly challenges too! Why even bother paying to be a Club member? Why don’t we all just wait until non-Club members get what we already pay for? I’m sorry, but it really is all about the money to them. Stop being greedy Pogo. Don’t Club members pay you enough for your downloadable games, gems, and Club membership? I guess not. (Sorry. Rant is over.)

Monopoly Slots is kind of fun. But I hate having my little mover sit there for hours upon hours. To me that is what keeps the game entertaining. The dice need to come up more often just to keep the game interesting. I’m not too into how much the token payout is because I find tokens completely useless. But yeah it would’ve been nice if we could put the dice aside like the pigs in Hog Heaven. I know someone on here mentioned that in a post a while back. Yes, that would be brilliant! The game moves too slow in that respect. But it’s still a lot more entertaining than Beaker Creatures for sure.

A couple of people have asked what the “premium game tickets” are. They are basically a pass to play the given game for a limited time, which you would normally need a Club Pogo membership to do.

As far as non-members getting mini items and other privileges, I’m not so mad at it. It’s been 2 1/2-ish years since the Club Pogo membership fee was raised (from $30-$40); I have a feeling that is they didn’t make these items available to non-members, they likely would have gone to $50 on the yearly membership. So I’m fine with expanding the non-member privileges, hopefully it means that they can go a couple more years at the current Club Pogo rate.

I agree with Bill. I am glad that EA/Pogo is always looking for new ways to make money off of us. Pogo knows that if they expose the free members to some of what they get with paid membership, some of them will join. This helps keep the cost down for all of us.

Club Pogo charges much less than lots of other sites. In fact, I read about a year ago (don’t remember where), that Club Pogo makes the least money per person, per minute online of pay for game sites (World of Warcraft, etc.). If you play one hour per day, its .11 per hour, and I think most of us play more than that. A little over $3 per month, heck, I pay more for a meal at Wendy’s (and that’s over very fast lol).

I have never purchased any gems or premium games. Not that I am against them, just the opposite. They could have easily doubled the price and gave you gems and discounts as part of the package. This way, you get to choose if gems and premium badges and premium games are worth the extra money. I am more that satisfied with my plain old Club Pogo membership.

I think if you compare Monopoly Slots to the story slot games (Sock Hop, Ali Baba, etc.), it moves at about the same pace. I usually only play those for badges. If you compare it to Hog Heaven, it seems very slow. I think Pogo made it take longer just because Hog Heaven was so fast. I do wish they could have more than 10 per room. It makes it very hard for us league players to have tournaments in that game.

Lura, thank you for the site. It is one of my “must see” sites that I check out every evening when I go online. After reading the latest news (and comments), I am ready to play Pogo.

I agree that clubbers are being shafted….This is ridiculous on pogo’s part….Who do u think paid for these non club updates???Our money goes to giving the ppl who will play for free the little incentives!! I Do LOVE POGO but if they pull the we offer so many games bull and raise the subscription rates i am gone!!! I can see them doing something like this soon!!!

Good Morning, I love the new changes coming to Pogo!! I do have one suggestion, instead of giving tokens in jp spins I wish Pogo would start giving us gems. Using gems to purchase mini mall items and m/m really ad up fast. I look forward to all the new games in production. I like having the m/m coming up the 1st of every month. I also wish they would bring back some of the retired m/ms. But other than these few suggestions, I love Pogo and I love this website!!! Have a great weekend, be safe…

Yes Faith I pay every month at 5.99 a month. Right now I can some to get together anymore then 5.99 at a time. Some day I will get it together and be able to do a 6 month or a year. So pogo is getting lots of money from me every month. Oh well!.

First off, Hi Lura, miss you hun. Anyway, the challenges were simple this week, sure the Monopoly one took more time as it is just by chance you go to jail, no skill needed, but all in all another easy week. Pogo needs to give us something challenging that we have to actually work for instead of completing in less than an hour.
As to Monopoly Slots, at first I wasn’t impressed with it, and yes it is just another Slots game, but I am hooked on it now and have reached Rank 26 as we speak here.
My take on Pogo opening up things that only Club members got before I think is great. Give people more of a taste of what it is to be a Club member and they might just join and then spend more money on Pogo instead of just playing for free.
I have to have every badge, album that is released. I buy all the M&M’s, the Premium Albums and To Go Games, so I spend a hefty amount during the year for Pogo, but it still comes down to just pennies a day for my entertainment. And believe me I use my Pogo to the fullest, I am on there 12 or more hours a day. Tell me where you can get that type of entertainment for under a quarter a day? There isn’t any place. Going to the movies once and buying popcorn and a soda will cost you what your yearly membership cost.
So, Go Pogo Go (EA that is).

Ok I am getting really sick of the negativity. I love pogo and I love this site – Luna you do a great job. But I think I’m going to stop reading the comments. It’s becoming like a lot of rooms in Pogo where you just hear everyone bitch and bitch about everything.

Pogo is a business and they need to make money like everyone else. At first I was very against paying for a membership because I was like why spend money to play games online? Then I started playing members only games on my ex boyfriends account and earning badges. I made some good friends and enjoyed the games and challenges, and really when you break down your membership fees you’re paying less than $4 a month. How many things can you get for that cheap? But also, that’s not a lot of money for Pogo and they have employees to pay so who can blame them for trying to make some money.

I know we’re in a recession but everything doesn’t need to be negative.

I’m going to go paint my kitchen.

Here is an idea for Pogo badges:
Some like easy, some like tough.
What about each badge having three levels:
Bronze – easy
Silver – moderate
Gold – expert level
That way you could put in the amout of effort you like and have your badge and then no one would have anything to complain about.
They could just add the appropriate colored border to the graphic.

I was a little shocked at first to see Pogo open up the mini mall to non-paying Pogo-nians. I always considered it one of the prime benefits for me to pay for my Pogo citizenship. But, for whatever reason, Pogo wanted to give them this free gift…so be it. I paid for my membership because I chose to pay for it. I don’t know in the future that I will always have the money to continue doing so, so at least I know by this example that it’s not all about the money with Pogo. This shows they care for both their paying and non-paying Pogo-nians.

First let me echo the others in saying I love this site and I am so glad you dedicate so much time to it, many thanks for all your hard work.

Recent events at POGO: The changes don’t bother me in the least. Paying members get the wonderful site mail, some perks and most importantly to me no stop-game ads. There are many many many sites out there that offer free games and several of those sites have 400-1000 games where pogo has no where near that many; however the quality of pogo is better then the quantity of other sites. Be that as it may, pogo had/has to do something to attract and hold new members. Remember guys, EA is a company of starving creative programmers … if they are not making a living doing pogo they will go do something else and we lose pogo forever. Allowing non-club members access to member stuff is just enticing non-members to join while paying the bills and keeping pogo active. I would recommend, however, that since pogo is giving more to non-members, they (EA that is) should give us members a bone too … maybe a free download for every 6 months membership ? That way club members would have the added benifit of collecting some of the premium games – and sure exclude the most recent release. In anycase, if you do the math, EA has what 3 million paying accounts ? So that’s what 120 Million per year they make right (less more then likely)? So that is about what 10 Million per month they make right? .. ok so now break it down how much does it cost them to maintain offices in the US and Europe ? How much does it cost for all the equipment and other materials? Then, how much does it cost them to pay their employees and pay stockholders ? Fact is EA does not make near as much as say Blizzard (World of Warcraft) or Sony On-line Entertainment (Everquest and many others) but still have to pay programmers commpetitive wages to keep them on board. What we pay for POGO is cheap IMO and EA doing things to keep costs down not only helps them but us as well. Oh and before I forget, recall a lot of that money they make goes back out as rewards also.

I have been told that gems can be won via a JP spin and that’s been going on for a long time though it’s rare as getting a real prize – possibly only in selced games as the only places I have herd of it is Addiction Solitar, Pool, and Hangman … it would be nice to see more gems pop up on the spin in any case.

I have no issue with challenges though they do seem simple. The monopoly one for example was easier then one in an album which only gave you 3 days to goto jail 10x. IMO if the weekly challenge is simple the I just have that much more time to devote to other POGO stuff like ranking up in lotso or tri-peaks or Canasta. A more difficult challenge just means more time I need to devote to it. On the topic of challenges I do wish they would allow more personal challenges or maybe even let us buy extra (with tokens) challenges from years gone by for us new folks who are years behind.

Ok now to Monopoly Slots – this is one game I love to hate (or is it hate to love). I know some hard core players are up there in the rank 20s or 30s but not may of us care to play 24/7 or use auto players to rank up. I have sat in a room for 2 hours and managed to get almost all the way around just to hit chance next to park place only to go promply to jail and have to start over again; I really fear that cop in the corner now. I said it before that I think they should make it more laps to rank up but drasticly increase the amount dice pop up allowing us the illusion of progressing vice sitting there bored to tears waiting to move just a tiny bit. The other thing I hate about monopoly slots is that it is very frustraiting to watch it eat your tokens. So far I have hit the 50k 4 times but since I don’t have a lot of luck otherwise my lifetime tokens is around 70k when I have won well over 300K (counting the 10Ks 5K and etc) … the game just eats the tokens alive. If not for the big hits, I would be way in the hole .. that prospective alone makes me shy away from it. (I am rank 10 btw)

Anyone that is interested in just ranking up and really don’t want to rist tokens, you can play 1 line for 1 token and it will spin and if the dice land you move as normal .. so for raning 1 token instead of 150 per spin is an option … however don’t be mad when the 50k lands and you miss out on it (that’s happened to me once too lol). If ya don’t care about tokens one way or the other then I guess it don’t matter.

the dice hard to get as many tlk about it i play one nite 23 hours and still only saw 2 dice in a time of hour time if that good pay out but still i lost alot of token to 15,000 and didnt make that much back i fixing to play it again as i am hooked LMAO.

Oh my, between all the complaining in this thread and Monopoly Slots thread…..If you don’t like Monopoly Slots, how Pogo changed things and non-members getting a few added perks well then don’t play on Pogo. Geesh it’s not like they’re giving non-members all our advantages, which to me is all the great games and badges. As for Monopoly Slots, yes it’s taking forever to rank, but who cares. Everyone wants something for nothing now-a-days. Quit complaining and move on. There are so many more important things in life to worry about then these stupid little things!

For those who are having problems with the Pebble Beach Golf challenge, I complained to Pogo about it…..I said…..

Hi. I am trying to do the Pebble Beach golf badge from 2004. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET THIS BADGE. From what others have told me, they only got it because there was a glitch when the challenge came out. It has since been changed. (I wasn’t a member when the challenge first came out.) How do I do it now? I have read the instructions and tried to play. There is no way possible to get par or better on every hole. I want to complete the 2004 album, but can’t if I can’t get this badge. Others have told me the same thing. HELP, please.

Since there is a problem with the scoring of the Pebble Beach Golf game, why don’t you take the Pebble Beach Golf challenge OUT of the 2004 album so those of us (and there are MANY) who wish to complete the 2004 album, can do so. That seems like a very simple solution to this problem, since it is impossible to win that challenge.

Maybe if others complained and asked them to take it out, they might. Give it a try and let’s see what happens.

One thing I’ve figured out about Monopoly Slots is to get more dice–SWITCH ROOMS MORE OFTEN. Don’t just sit there in the same room for hours and hours, lol

It really does seem to help. Also, log off and clean cache, then log back in again. ALOT!

That’s the only way I’ve been able to win alot of tokens and get the double dice to move my piece. It’s been working for me, SO DON’T STAY IN ONE ROOM FOREVER!!

Hope everyone was safe during the awful weather last night :)

What happened to the Easter candy in Sweet Tooth 2? I was working on ranking out in there last year and really enjoyed all that “fancy” candy.

If my memory serves me right didn’t pogo come out with a April Fools Special badge last year? I think they will. We probably will need to do multiple badges for the one special. I just love playing on Pogo. The whole family is involved. Keep up the good work and for the few bucks spent per year well worth the entertainment. I for one love doing the badges and playing the games. Some are quite challenging and others are a breeze. Thanks and God’s Blessing to All.

YES IT’S TRUE: GETTING RANKS IS SLOW, BUT I FEEL IF U GOT THEM FAST THEN PLAYERS WOULD GET BORED OF MONO. SLOTS QUICKLY ONCE RANKED OUT;IT WOULD LOSE IT’S APPEAL. WHAT’S THE POINT IN PLAYING MONOPOLY SLOTS IF THE RANKS GO FAST; IT WOULD TAKE ALL THE FUN OUT OF IT.

AS FAR AS THIS WEEK’S BADGES GO: MAHJONG SAFARI : WAY TO EASY; MONOPOLY H&N: WAS A BIT ROUGH; TOOK ME 4 DAYS TO GET IT DONE, SPENT ALL DAY JUST GETTING THE FINAL “GO-TO-JAIL” TO GET THE BADGE.

AS FAR AS NON-CLUB MEMBERS GETTING MORE OPTIONS, I COULDN’T CARE LESS, I WILL STILL PAY TO BE A MEMBER BECAUSE I’M ADDICTED TO GETTING BADGES,PLAYING THE GAMES,THE MINI MALL, AND MOST OF ALL, ENJOY MEETING PEOPLE. I JUST SEE THE NEW OPTIONS AS A NEW WAY FOR POGO TO POCKET MORE MONEY.
